Kirin Seafood Restaurant (Richmond)

The kirin dining experience is a mixed bag. One the plus, it’s some of the best food - best dim sum - I’ve had. Their salty egg bun is a must try, and the staples (shrimp dumplings, rice crepes) are very solid. My favorite dish is the seafood and snow pea leaves noodle. The taste is absolutely fantastic especially if you enjoy seafood.

Now for the bad. The service, the atmosphere are horrid. The hosts couldn’t care any less about guests and just make up nonsense when asked about reservations. Our table was late by half an hour, and it was because they were “washing the table. ” I don’t care that they are running behind - it happens to busy restaurants - but the lackadaisical communication and lying is frustrating. The waiters aren’t much better. We were rushed to place our orders, and they kept shouting at us because we asked about their specials.

Go to Kirin for the food, but go with an open mind and plenty of patience as you’ll likely be frustrated by the service.

Quite pricy considering the food was mid quality. Particularly the lamb pot, which was around 70cdn, but the meat was very chewy. The kitchen failed to hold green onions despite our request. The complimentary red bean soup was the best item out of the bunch. The food was somewhat slow. Our waiter was very good though; very frequent plate changes and tea refills.

This is an upscale Cantonese restaurant. It was very clean and spacious. More pricey than usual. Overall, the dim sum items were good, but my favorite items were definitely the dan tat and tau foo fah. The textures and tastes for both were amazing. Not too sweet.

NOTE: you must make a reservation to get seated. The lady in the front was harsh about that…they should advertise that more if it’s required. I didn’t appreciate her attitude so early in the morning! You can only make it in person or through the phone too. Don’t make my mistake!

Price ok, & food taste good. No charge for tea. You can save money when you have many relatives get together there.

Always keep the good standards on food, service, quality and quantity.
They also have frozen dim sum and food for take home. Price is lower than eating eat in. Quality and taste are good too. Told us no MSG too.

I walked in at 10: 30 this morning, and the receptionist at the door told me that they only accept reserved guests and do not accept any walk-ins. Their attitude was very bad. I suggested that they put a sign on maps saying that they do not accept walk-ins. How could this be possible? If a restaurant like this can continue to operate, I will wish them closure every day.

Taste: dim sum, fried noodles, beef ribs, environment (there was at the bottom of the former cityhall branch), parking, service (There were 4 in the cityhall branch in the past), the atmosphere (in the past cityhall branch, you could hardly hear winter melon cooking, it seems to be Hong Kong before 1997, there are)

This is a can't miss place for Dim Sum and Cantonese food in Richmond BC.
Everything is quite simply the best.

You need a reservation in order to be seated! If you plan to just get there and be seated, you’re wrong, any day of the week, you’ll need a reservation in order to be seated! There were 6 of us and we ordered a set menu for a party of 4 and it was plenty of of food to feed 8 people! The service was outstanding and very, very clean for a Chinese restaurant! It’s on the second floor next to the Hudson Bay shopping mall!

THE place for dim sum! Dishes run from classic (har gao, siu mai, dofu fa) to unique (bitter melon and beef under a pan fried cap of vermicelli). Everything is delicious and well cooked. Setting is lovely and clean…. And loud.

Once the crown jewel of the city, this restaurant's standards have declined, much like the fading empire in Asimov's Foundation. For an unmatched culinary experience, consider exploring newer Chinese establishments. Your palate deserves the best.

It is difficult to book d, but the food and service are ok. Some people say that regular customers are better, but it is my first time to go. The density of Taiwan is ok, and it will not be too noisy.

Unbelievably rude staff, which is usually an indicator that the food is good. That is not the case here. Mid at best. We were also chastised for not ordering immediately after sitting down and our waiter coughed multiple times while taking our order. The treatment we received made us want to never come back.

You need to make a booking one week in advance, however the food were under my expectation.

I have eaten at so many Hong Kong-style restaurants, but Kirin is the best and the most affordable.

The food was decent but quite overpriced for the portion size. A typical dish of vegetables ranged around $30+. Regarding the service, the staff was ok, and the food came out fairly fast. The restaurant is not wheelchair-friendly as their elevator is not accessible anymore after 6: 00pm. The host didn’t disclose this information despite asking them for clarifications and confirmations when booking the reservation. Thankfully, a worker from the building we met upon our arrival made an exception and let us through the locked fire door next to the CIBC. It’s the only access point which leads to a dungeony corridor and an old elevator. There are signs to the restaurant once you get to the second floor. Unfortunately, we had to unfortunately take another route without an elevator on our way out. I would not consider this restaurant again for the accessibility needs of my grandparents.

At the restaurant I went to at noon yesterday, I ordered five snacks and one fried beef river, and the total cost was a little over 100 knives including tip. Let’s not talk about the price, let’s just say that the fried beef river has enough portions, but the taste is really hard to describe. It is the worst fried beef river that I have eaten in all restaurants from China to Vancouver! It doesn't taste like this, I don't know if I forgot to put the seasoning when frying! The green vegetables inside are spinach! It's really unpalatable! More than 30 knives a serving of Niuhe, it is better to eat a bag of instant noodles! Will never go there again!

I was shocked that the server didn’t allow us to use the paying machine on our own and asked for 18% up verbally of the tip while we were paying for our lunch.

Good food, but a bit pricey. It can get a bit too loud inside, but that's mainly due to their customers. If you go to this place than you should order seafood, it is a seafood restaurant after all. From what I know, most, if not all of their seafood is kept live until serving which means that its about as fresh as seafood can reasonably. If you order an entire king crab they will also show you the live crab before they cook it so that you can decide whether or not you want that specific crab.

I have been dining in this great restaurant for over 25 years

The restaurant is able to maintain a very high food quality as well as a wide variety
Towards the end of the meal, you must try one of the warm sweets called “ thousand layers cake “……

On July 24,2023, at around 10: 30 am, I had a really bad experience at this restaurant.

The customer service was terrible, especially from one server who was a white grey-haired skinny man with glasses.

He was super rude to us for no reasons. He rushed us to order, didn't have patience to listen to our requests, and even yelled at us when we tried to show him the menu. When we politely asked for cold water, he was dismissive and told us to finish earlier. I went to complain to the receptionists, but they couldn't do anything about it. I wouldn't suggest anyone go to this place for dimsum.

Pretty good Chinese food. Dim sum and dinner. Service is always good. They sang happy birthday for us.

A staple for high quality Cantonese cuisine, this place just delivers great food well. Consistency and quality are some of this place’s best traits. After coming to this place for many many years, I can always expect a high level of service and care each time.

Shockingly bad meal. Had the special set with the abalone and lobster. Quick service but the food was extremely subpar. Lobster was fishy and tasted like it’s been in the tank for a long time.

The hostess was rude and unprofessional. We came here for lunch right after their open time. When the hostess heard that we don’t have a reservation, she didn’t even raise her head and had an eye contact with us: “I don’t have anything for you”. Maybe from the way we dress she can tell that we are not locals and she doesn’t care to have our business ever. But she should at least have the basic manner, specially she is working in hospitality industry.
