Out of the countless mid-high tier/priced Japanese restaurants in Richmond, this one is my preferred choice. It’s still pricey if you get drinks, but sometimes you gotta treat yourself. Engawa is a must get. Their skewers are cooked nicely. Servers were friendly and checks up on you regularly. The food comes quickly. Overall a good place to get drunk with a friend while eating bites.

Buy a drink to eat and tell me you can't take out drinks, are you okay? ? In 2023, the business management is so wide. After entering, a man saw us standing there and ignored us twice. At least he said hello and asked us to wait a while without saying anything. It was quite speechless.

Small and intimate little Japanese sushi restaurant located in Richmond.

Was in the YVR for a quick girl's weekend getaway and stumbled upon Kyabia after googling Japanese restaurants. Kyabia had great ratings so we decided to give it a try and we were so glad that we did.

We were seated rather quickly considering we didn't have a reso. The restaurant isn't very big so I would recommend a reso but you can always try your luck like we did.

At Kyabia, there is a tablet on each table and you submit your order electronically. We ordered a roll, some sashimi, Nigeria and press sushi. Our good came fairly quickly and EVERYTHING was delicious! The sashimi and nigiri were like butter. So smooth. No fishy taste or lingering old fishy taste. There wasn't a single thing we ordered that any of us were like "this is kind of meh".

I loved this place and would definitely go back my next time in the YVR area. I should say it was a bit pricey but in my opinion, it was worth it. One of the best places I have been for sushi in Richmond.
10/10 would recommend

Attempted to dine in with one other person, host/server seemed very flustered and was unable to give a wait time as “a bunch of people all sat at the same time. ” Told her we were happy to walk around and come back but she was more interested in getting rid of us as opposed to giving even an approximate time for us to return.

Working in the industry myself, knowing the likely hood of someone being billed within a twenty minute time frame was quite high, as there was no one in the front area waiting for a table and people were either finishing up on their entrees or their plates were empty. Having your employees equipped with the tools and/or knowledge to gauge wait times will certainly be to your benefit.

However, had a fantastic dinner at one of the many other restaurants in the area!

If you're a fan of sushi and looking for a great place to satisfy your cravings, then you definitely need to check out this amazing sushi shop! As soon as you step inside, you'll be greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere that will make you feel right at home.

One of the standout features of this sushi shop is the quality of the fish. The sushi is incredibly fresh and has a melt-in-your-mouth texture that is absolutely delicious. If you're a fan of aburi, then you'll definitely want to try the version here - it's one of the best I've ever had!

But it's not just the sushi that's amazing here - the service is also top-notch. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, so if you're not sure what to order, they'll be more than happy to offer their recommendations.

My daughter is a picky eater, but she absolutely loved the aburi sushi here. It's definitely a must-visit spot for sushi lovers, whether you're a seasoned pro or just getting into this amazing cuisine. I highly recommend this sushi shop and can't wait to go back again soon!

Very delicious food with nice presentation. Been here several times and it's always been pretty consistent. Enjoyed the Deluxe sashimi and assorted aburi.

Overpriced for what it’s worth. It was really nothing special. The items on the menus was different than some other restaurants, but I didn’t enjoy the food much. Spent about $200+ for 4 people. Still wasn’t satisfied. There’s def better Japanese restaurants in Vancouver… so better to spend your money in Vancouver.

Server wouldn’t let me put my name down to wait. Said they were full and sent us out. It was only 7: 45 pm. Very unprofessional and wouldn’t recommend going if you’re black or brown and she’s working because it seemed as if she didn’t like me because if that. Will not return

Canadian style Japanese restaurant. Plenty of options to choose from. Friendly service. Relative private sittings. Affordable price.

First of all, food was great in terms of display, taste and quality. Chef did a really great job there maintaining the standard there.

However, the service was a bit ridiculous the time me and my friends went. I will try to be neutral about what has happened.

1. Not sure if it's normal, but took them 30 mins up to 60 mins before everyone got their food (other than pre-prepared dishes).

2. We told the waitress that some of us were going to order through our phone via the QR code menu. She did not stop us then later told us we can't do that, and have to use their tablet device. We also confirmed with the waitress that she will manage the split bill later, but it never happened.

3. My friend got a wrong order (Beef vs Pork), assume miscommunication was happened. After talking to a waiter/manager about it, the waitress came back with an annoyed tone saying "You ordered that, I heard you right. That's what you have ordered. " then left.

4. Another friend got a wrong order too (Chicken Yaki Udon vs Chicken Udon). Since there was record of what he has actually ordered, it was replaced. However, the chicken was quite dry for a soup based Udon for some reason.

5. Another friend and I ordered two 330ml beers that's $6 each. Instead, we got two open bottled 620ml ones which was $11 each. We confirmed that we ordered 330ml instead, they were going to replace them but later told us they ran out of 330ml ones. Asking if one 620ml one would work for us, since they are the 'same' price and quantity. We were fine with it and assumed that they would charge us $11 instead but we got charged 2 x $6 one still.

They managed to mess up 3 out of 13 items we have ordered. There was no apology but attitude. If you only care about the food quality, you can still give it a try but hold your expectation on the services. It could be just one off, but we wouldn't go back there.

Vancouver def. Has grest sea food. This place was fast to find, had great fresh fish. I was very full and still the last bite of sea urchin tasted extremely creamy and fresh. Quality food

Pros: Almost everything tastes good. Staff are very nice and kind.
Cons: Tempuras are a little bit too oily. Food takes a while to be served.

Take 30 min to prepare the hotpot which basically have nothing. Frozen seafood, cheap vegetable and taste pretty bad.overpriced and bad service. Usually I don't leave bad review, but this place is just awful

Food was okay. Had better sushi. Service not that good too. Kinda disappointed because it was my mom's birthday.

Fresh quality seafood and distinct menu offering up a variety of different sushi different from your average North American style sushi and "Japanese cuisine" their sushi was not doused in sauce like some sushi rolls that you could find in other restaurant and the presentation was beautiful to look at. They are more Japanese in the sense that their sushi and sashimi showcases the seafood and not the combinations of sauce on fish and rice.

To be absolutely clear quality sushi comes with a price and this place is on the higher end scale but if you want quality sushi this is the place to be.

Kyabia is a Japanese restaurant in Richmond that serves delicious Japanese dishes at a premium price. The quality is definitely worth the price. I highly recommend this establishment for those that are looking to treat guests.

Food is definitely on the pricier side, but its worth it. Not a lot of good places for sushi in Richmond, so this is definitely one of my go tos. There are a lot of different things on the menu to choose from, but I go here primary for their salmon aburi, or salmon battera as they like to call it. Next would be the tako wasabi, cheese chikuwa, kawahagi, baby tako.instead of creating a long list, lets just say I love it all.

Amazing food, fast service, friendly staff, great decor. Went in on a whim, and will definitely be going back again. The grilled squid is amazing, and they have the best tako wasabi I’ve had yet

The staff was very friendly. The food was okay but very overpriced. I’m sure you can get the same quality for less money in Richmond.

Sashimi and sushi are good. Scallops sushi is very good and fresh. Staff are polite. Toilet is clean.

Love the salmon aburi battera from here! And the noodle dishes! Service is alright when you eat in. I usually get take out. The presentation is nice

The food was fine. Good, even. It's a pricier option with subpar service. Only saw servers when food was delivered or it was time to pay, and waiting 30 minutes for two rolls wasn't a fun experience. No need to go again.

Good sushi and sashimi. Not crowded on a Sat evening. Hot dishes not bad too. Deep fried items bit overdone. Not cheap, but reasonable given the quality of food and services

Nice Place. Good ambience. Feel like you in japan
Food are good and resonable price
The server are all alert and helpful
I really like to come back here again

Superb quality in food and service. This underrated sushyi establishment deserves more recognition despite the fact that its management is Chinese rather than genuine Japanese. Especially recommended is their UNAGI DON. This is the only Sushi restaurant in Vancouver where Yours Truly will eat the delicious eel's skin with the meat. The only other Sushi restaurant where I would eat the UNAGI skin is in Upper Manhattan, located opposite the Time Warner building, which is a must must every time I return to New York. Yeah, thou may think me is a squeamish fish eater, which I readily concede, but UNAGI is a fish that takes consummate culinary skills to prepare. Done well, you have a king's meal. Done badly, you'll have an unpleasant aftertaste, and an ensuing nightmare into the bargain.

Some of the skewers are deep fried not grilled! That's cheating!
The gyutan was like chewing gum.
The quality of the food doesn't worth the price.
