Made the mistake of coming here. Pay to enter. No sampling, cheap ice cream, artificial coloring and no joy at all in the visit for some ice cream.

There are currently 238 flavors. I want to eat them all when I see them, but unfortunately I can’t eat them all XD
This time I chose the blackberry and lychee flavor. The black plum flavor is very fragrant and rich. I like this flavor very much and I can give it to you to try!
It's a pity that the lychee flavor doesn't have a strong aroma, and it tastes okay.

Heard about this place as a must see. It looked so exciting when we walked in and the flavours look amazing however we’re not able to purchase anything as they only take Canadian cards. As tourists, this is very disappointing.

Yea, there are tons of flavors of gelato, but they all taste artificial…not heavy and smooth enough, will not come again

Great selection of gelato flavors. Big portion and great for sharing. There are many flavors to chose from and not enough stomach space to try it all

Haven’t been in years but it’s still great! Excellent service and flavours as always.upon requesting a flavour (lychee sorbetto). The woman who helped me said it was quite light so i asked for a different one (papaya raspberry) and she let me have a very small scoop of the first flavour in my cup.both are great! Lychee is definitely lighter (she said the gelato was better but i wanted to stick with sorbetto) but very refreshing on such a hot day, and the papaya raspberry is sweet and tangy. 10/10!

More than 200 flavors and in the Guinness Book of World records for ice cream flavors. Unfortunately due to supply chain costs increasing, you can no longer sample all of the flavors, but is well run using poker chips to let the people over the counter know whether it is a single, double, etc scoop of ice cream.

The place looks great inside, lots of selection! It could take hours just to decide on a flavour. Unfortunately I have to give 1 star due to having to “pre pay” and decide what size you want before actually entering the store. We were also denied samples of anything, which means if you purchase a flavour- you’re stuck with it! And the prices are fairly steep as it is. I was also denied a half and half flavour combo in my 1/2 litre order. Overall; the novelty is there, but the limitations ruin the experience in a way. The denial of samples were extremely disappointing! My partner ended up with a flavour he wouldn’t have chosen if he was able to sample it. It’s been about 20 years since I visited La casa gelato, and unfortunately the trip was a bit of a disappointment. Hopefully I will like my flavour.

Great! Good service, loads of options. Sad they don’t have tasting anymore, though understandable.

Paid for 3 flavours and got one that tasted nice… they kept the “no sampling” after Covid to cut costs, and now they lose customers because why would one pay $12 to try wacky flavours that you might not like

One of the best ice cream places in Vancouver. Family own. A must visit during a hot evening.

Used to be awesome, but…

Discovered tonight that one of the best parts of the Casa Gelato experience is no more… NO MORE FREE SAMPLES!

This is terribly disappointing as it was one of the best parts of a visit… trying the different flavours before you decide.

Tonight I had to make a choice without getting a sample beforehand and was very disappointed in the coconut chocolate chip cone I received.: (

But I have a solution…

Management: if you want to reduce the cost of samples I get it. But the sample experience was a key component of what you deliver. We were all disappointed and decided tonight that we won’t be back, and I doubt this is the outcome you want, so my suggestion is ALLOW 5 SAMPLES per purchase.

Hear me out…

Just give 5 mini tokens (along with the regular purchased single or double tokens), and give one sample per mini token.

This will add up to maybe 1oz of extra ice cream per customer, and you just incorporate that into your cost.

Seriously. You need to do this if you understand your customers and what’s unique about what you deliver. We want you to survive so please fix this ASAP.

A great way to end the evening. Very efficient flow where you decide cup vs cone and size up front, pay and receive tokens which you redeem when you have decided the flavour you want. A HUGE selection of ice creams and gelatos. The Mandarin chocolate sorbet and tequila sunrise sorbet was tasty and very refreshing. Easy parking across the side street and outdoor seating there as well.

When a gelato institution has been around for so long that "reviewers" need to find reasons to knock it off its #1 ranking in the city, it's time to tell the truth to people once again. I live in the area and have tried most of the gelato houses in East Van and some in the DT area, and they're all pretty good as IMO it's pretty tough to screw up ice cream. La Casa is and always has been the best tasting of the lot as it has a very unique home made flavor to it and there is a certain texture to it that I really like (more Ice than cream maybe, I dunno). Anyways, never a dissapointment and always fun, and always a fantastic treat on a nice summer's day. Highly recommended when you're looking for the best.

Super sad they don’t do samples anymore! With 238 flavours how does this decision make any sense, you are not allowed to try anything so I ended up with a flavour I didn’t even like. So disappointed to bring a friend here and we both left with flavours that didn’t taste good. I used to love this place but really so disappointed: (would love if they let you sample like 3 at least, I get not unlimited but wow super bummed out. Recommend skipping this place and going somewhere you can try so you don’t waste your money like we did.

Great Place! Have a convenient square near and parking. Strawberry in chocolate is very good

I’ve been coming to La Casa Gelato for years, and I’m always super excited to try new flavours. They have a HUGE variety of flavours, there’s always something for everyone. Although this place gets very busy, we’ve never had trouble finding a parking spot. The staff are always welcoming, and the gelato flavours are unique and tasty! I do wish they would allow samples again though.

They have so many flavours…238 to be precise! Some unique ones and being chocolate gelato fan, seeing so many variations in chocolate gelatos was pure bliss! I loved Chocolate fudge brownie. They have cakes & candies in the shop too! Dedicated parking spot was a plus. Must visit!

Nice, but kinda weird. No samples are given, which is fine except that they have 8 trillion flavours and sample would really come in handy.

Countless flavours, staff was incredibly nice. The look of the place is stunning and the gelato is worth the trip no matter where you are in Vancouver

I was disappointed with the scoop size for the Gelato. It was about $8.50 for 2 small scoops.

Unfortunately, did you not allow taste testing anymore! Having so many flavors, it would be great if they still allowed people to test as long as they had purchased a token. This place wasn't only about the ice cream, it was also about the fact that there was many flavors and that we can try and discover new ones. But at this point, since you cannot test, I'm not brave enough to try different flavors and risk paying almost 7 bucks for a flavor that I might not like. So I ended up sticking to a very safe flavor. All my friends also did the same. It's really disappointing because the taste testing was part of the experience. Overall, the ice cream is not special in any way except that there's many flavors. So I wouldn't specifically come here just for the ice cream if there are other gelato places nearby

238 Flavors are the most attractive reason to visit!
And the decorations insides are creative.
They have parking lots and outdoor eating space for guests!

Always an amazing selection! Loved my s’mores flavour. They have recently stopped samples. With 238 flavours in play this is a bit of a blow and the reason for 3 stars. All in all still a good east van institution!
