The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia building, along with the buildings of the Hotel Fairmont Empress and the Hotel Grand Pacific, creates the architectural dominant of Victoria.
This is a huge house, which is more than a hundred years old, built in the neo-Baroque style.
There are guides tours in the Legislative Assembly building, after visiting which I learned a lot about the layout of the rooms, about the first female parliamentarian, about the flag and how the lion on the BC coat of arms differs from the one on the Great Britain coat of arms.
The interior of the building simply amazes with its luxury, sophistication and splendor. Parquet, columns with volutes and wooden bases, balustrades (stair railings), stained glass window, a painted dome - all this testifies to the high skill of the architect Francis M. Rattenbury.
I was also very impressed by the boat inside one of the halls in the form of a huge sea monster.
Half an hour after our visit to the building, the Legislative Assembly meeting was to begin. At the end of the tour we had the opportunity to visit a dinning room and gift shop.
On the back side of the Legislative Assembly building there is a park in which 14 statues of historical figures significant for British Columbia are installed.
Personally, for me, visiting the Legislative Assembly building was a penetration into the bowels of BC democracy, an opportunity to admire the more than a century-old building interior and free English lesson.

After covid the people were able to assemble and enjoy a spectacular fireworks display, even with heart shaped ones (I like to think were dedicated to the Health Care Workers) and it was good to see a peaceful gathering.

Great garden. Must go location in Victoria. It's right at the harbour near everything. Lit up at night and free tours during the day. Perfect place to spend a couple hours.

Drove from Los Angles all the way to here. Kids love this place. Just don’t have enough time to explore all the fantastic places! Will definitely come back again!

Absolutely beautiful building, perfect background for your selfies. And you can come inside for a FREE TOUR! Yes you heard me right, FREE! Just look for the tour guide - Nicholas in our case - in the mornings around 10. He would be outside in the steps and he would be giving out tickets for the day's tours. They go fast so come early.

Lors de ma visite, il était possible de se promener librement et d'admirer les beautés et l'histoire de l'endroit. Avec la COVID ce pourrait être différent. Un lieu plein d'histoire.

The tour was a highlight of the trip. Our guide did a fantastic job at explaining the history of Canada as a nation, our relationship with the queen, the native population and the founding of British Columbia as a province. Highly recommend. Best part, it’s free. You just have to get there at 9 am to get tickets.:)
