Little Karp Seafood Restaurant & Bar

We had dinner here with a group of 5 for our trip from Toronto. The service was excellent and almost felt like you were experiencing fine-dining for a fraction of the cost. The food came out at a reasonable time and was quite tasty. I hope to try the brunch menu the next time I am in Vancouver.

Great vibe and food, the owner was friendly and have a great passion in providing fresh and healthy food. Support small business, highly recommend. Everything was made fresh and with care.

Visited Little Karp for brunch and what a hidden gem! The decor was so cute. We loved everything we ordered. The chicken waffles were delicious and crunchy. The crab and waffle was also a highlight. They are also toddler friendly and provided utensils to our little one (bonus points!). All in all we can’t wait to be back to try their dinner:).

My friends and I came for dinner. The staff were very welcoming and hospitable. We ordered a few dishes to share but were an odd-numbered party so the owner made sure that the dishes came out in a way that was easy for us to sample everything. The staff also took the time to explain each dish and they also asked us about our trip as we were visiting from Toronto. Definitely recommend this spot for anyone looking for a comfortable and warm environment to share a delicious meal!

Our group of 5 was visiting from Toronto and we had a splendid time here. The owners were very genuine and kind. The service was spectacular and they attended to us regularly throughout the night. The food quality was great and the atmosphere was quite cozy! Would definitely recommend my friends and family back home to come here if they visit Vancouver!

While the concept of LK aims to stand out on Alexandra Road, the gym being upstairs, and lack of proper service makes this a poor execution.

-1 The wine was poorly handled, quite a few drops ended up on the floor - also was not addressed.

-1 Staff are either robotic or poorly trained. Service could be more warm. The forced smiles and overly cheery attitude is not genuine.

-1 During the meal, the gym upstairs caused large thuds. Nobody bothered to address or pardon the disturbance. Very awkward.

Restaurant wasn’t very busy on a weekday evening - unsure about the freshness of the food.

The Big Breakfast is very good. Smoothies are fresh. Everything is delicious and the plating is impeccable. Very impressed!

Their fusion foods are quite good. The portion is reasonable. The service is good. However, the price is a little bit higher for both the quality and the quantity.

Super cute place! Went for brunch at 11: 30am and surprisingly it wasn’t even busy. Service was very friendly and accommodating. He explained the menu and mentioned that the owner owns his own fishing company so all his product is fresh. Food was quick and nice portions. Flavour was really good! Got the chicken and waffles (surprisingly the chicken was moist and flavourful), seafood melt (Omgggg must get! Packed with flavour and seafood), and mini pancakes for dessert. Atmosphere was chic and modern

My mommy dearest brought me here for brunch, and it is certainly a surprise to see such a sophisticated west coast restaurant on Alexandra Road in Richmond. As we stepped in, I love the high ceiling, contemporary vibe and neutral wood colour karp lantern type lights. We were greeted promptly by the owner and led us to our table. We were likely their first table for the day, so kitchen ventilation wasn't switched on at that point. The first 15-20 minutes or so, the restaurant smelled like fish market. Thankfully the unpleasant smell was gone shortly after.

My mom had been there before, so she recommended a few dishes and definitely over ordered. We got the seafood melt, Thai curry soup, mussels & frites, and crab meat & egg with waffle strips!

Food came quite promptly, the curry soup arrived first. The coconut milk and thai curry tasted bang on, with fresh ginormous tiger prawns. Unfortunately it wasn't piping hot, the spiciness was hotter than the temperature of the soup. If they could boil the soup a tad longer and tone down the spiciness a notch, it would be perfect.

Then came the mussels and frites. Fries are hot and crunchy, mussels are fresh, big and plump. White wine broth with garlic, fennel & scallions are very flavourful!

The seafood melt and crab meat & egg waffle strip salad came. The seafood melt is packed with an entire ocean - lots of crab meat and tiger prawns. The spread was very creamy, cheesy and rich. With such a heavy dish, I would suggest taking away the quail egg, perhaps adding some micro greens and balsamic vinegar to deepen the flavour profile.

We are way too full to enjoy the crab meat & egg salad, so we packed that to go and that's gonna be my lunch for tomorrow.

As I truly want local business to thrive, I provided some feedback to the owners. They were extremely receptive and appreciative of constructive feedback. With the attentive service by friendly owners, comfortable and sophisticated ambience, sufficient and free parking, absolutely delightful fresh seafood and delicious dishes, I'm looking forward to try their dinner.

We went as a party of 4 and chose to get the seasonal tasting menu. The service was inconsistent. Some of the time they were almost over attentive filling our water the almost immediately after we drank a bit and other times it seemed like we were forgotten. The food itself was tasty and well prepared, although the progression of flavours and the pace of the food was a bit off. They had strong and mild dishes come out sequentially which I believe could have been done better so the flavours could all shine through better. In saying that, each dish itself was quite tasty. The geoduck Thai curry dish was probably our favourite. The decor is quite nice and atmosphere is laid back. They allowed us to bring our own bottle of champagne but we also had some cocktails and wine which were quite well done.

Went there for the first time for a celebration. The cocktail & appetizers were good but the atmosphere & service was left to be desired. The main manager was great, but was too busy to wait on all tables, and the other servers seem very inexperienced, esp to provide fine dining service. Given the prices of the entrees ($49-68), which is more than some of the high end restaurants, it was not quite worth the flavors or experience overall.

Another place that's rated strangely high on Google but probably only by "influencers".

- Extremely slow service (over an hour between when appetizers were cleared and when mains showed up) with zero communication. There were only 3-4 other tables.
- Appetizers were really good. Mains arrived cold/lukewarm.
- Very apparent shortage of staff. Old dishes on tables around us were never cleared. We've had our water refilled just once during the hour wait.
- Not entirely to the fault of the restaurant, but the party in the "private room" was extremely loud and the door was left open the entire time, so any ambiance was out the door.

The disappointment is largely emphasized by the price they charge. You can easily get a better experience for your money elsewhere.

From the design and taste of the cocktails, to each dish, they were all fantastic.

The 7 day aged steak was amazing, as well as black cod, lobster risotto. Even the salad was delicious and I don't normally enjoy salads.

The service was attentive and they were able to describe the dishes in English and Chinese for my mother and father in law that don't speak english. Really classy west coast restaurant in Richmond and we need more of this in this city!

I believe they are owned by the same company (or have close relations with) a seafood distributing company so their seafood is EXTREMELY fresh you can taste the difference!

Dishes were all well presented in my taste menu dinner. Almost all were tasty and pretty unique in cooking. Only the scallop dish was a bit overcooked and was spicy hot. Modern settings and comfortable environment.

What a wonderful dining experience at Little Karp with my girlfriends! I loved the west coast vibe as soon as I entered. I appreciate they have a basket to put our purses under our seats.

Each dish were tasty and beautiful plating. They use seasonal ingredients highlighting seafood, fruit and vegetables. Some highlights:
fermented soybean curd clam chowder - My friend wasn't sure what to expect but she was surprised it was super delicious! I will try this next time
east & west butter with sourdough - two butters to try: black bean and tarragon garlic
smoked black cod en papillote - I thoroughly enjoyed this entree. Perfectly cooked with savoury house made seafood sauce.

So many dishes to try for next time!
