This awesome neighbourhood bike shop is the real deal. Ross and his team call it like they see it and cut no corners. Been coming here for years. Can't recommend them enough.
I don't know why anyone has anything but a stellar review for this spot. The owner is a firm man, but a fair man; he drives a hard bargain, but he runs a tight ship. Ten out of ten.
Went in looking for some hardware to mount my rack and fender… Staff are super friendly and helpful and didn’t hesitate to find what I needed to make it work even though I wasn’t dropping any coin. I’ll definitely be coming back when I need anything for my bike.
Ross and his team are true experts and genuinely passionate about bikes. I came to the shop with an urgent repair issue, and Ross not only jumped right on it, but took the time to teach me all about shock mounting hardware while he worked. This guy has years of experience and clearly knows his craft. Knowledge, customer service, and value all 10/10.
I bought a Kona gravel bike from Mactalla last summer and it's been rock solid. I've been coming back to Mactalla for parts and service on that bike and my other one, and they always do great work. The staff provide knowledgeable advice and thoughtful answers to all of my questions. My favourite bike shop.
I've had both my road bike (Marin Gestalt) and my mountain bike (Rockey Mountain Altitude) serviced here. Just this morning they changed over my mountain bike to tubeless and trued my wheels. They easily could have asked me to book an appointment but they took it in the same day so I was able to use my mountain bike on the same weekend. Solid crew who all obviously love bikes. Great shop, fair prices.
They’ve always given me fair prices and quick turn around for repairs. Plus their staff will go above and beyond when taking the time to explain things to you if you ask
I'm super grateful for the time and patience of the owner / staff to explain how to service my own bike. A few months ago, they talked me though how to convert my tires to tubeless. After a detailed explanation I went home and converted my tires in about 30 mins. Recently, I got another crash course on servicing/bleeding my brakes. Thank you for sharing your wisdom! Love supporting this local shop!
Came in for a quick chain ring swap after bumping around city cause no one had the right tool. They had all the tools and were able to fix it real quickly. Seems like a cool couple of guys
Went to get flat fixed. Cashier was chatting with customer. I waited patiently. He paid very slowly with his card. Chatted some more. I was getting impatient. Finally he went to get his bike to wheel it out. I waited patiently for him to leave. On the way out he stopped to chat some more with the cashier about his prostate. Fed up, I left. Not great customer service. Never going back.
I’ve been a customer many years so this recent discovery was disappointing. Had my bike maintenance/repairs done around two years ago…the price was around $250. I trust these guys and assume they know how to fix bikes properly. Fast forward to July 2022…the bike has been sitting in storage and the tires were both flat. I called Velofix mobile to fix and they pumped up tires, put chain back on and left. I didn’t ride the bike day it was repaired and there were no issues the next day. The third day, the back tire was flat. I took it to Caps Cycle in Richmond and according to the tech, it was incorrect tube that was installed and for sure, a trained tech would know it was incorrect. We figured that the tube was likely twisted which explains why it leaked out slowly and why I had a day of riding before it was flat. What if I had been out in the middle of nowhere? I will never go to Mactalla or hire Velofix again. Just plain, gross incompetence.
I bought a new wheel from them a couple of months ago and I came back into the shop, explaining how the threads on my hub felt stripped as I wasn't able to put a lot of force while pedalling, after buying a new wheel just a couple of months ago. The owner took the time to talk to me about the philosophies of cog and lockring interactions, it was invigorating to learn a bit more about my bike and to better understand why my rear wheel wasn't cooperating. He looked at it immediately and fixed everything right up. 20 minutes later, I was back on my bike and skidding down hastings! None bike or costumer service related comment, but one of the employees had a fantastic mullet. I really appreciate bike mechanics for venturing in fun hair styles! Thank you Mactalla for making my Soma safe to ride on the streets again!
I love this shop. They are my go to place for any bike repairs and they always do a fantastic job, give me great advice and have taught me a few things to help me maintain my bike. Today the wheel on my shopping trolley broke and they fixed it for me right there and then, so I was able to get home with all my heavy groceries. What a wonderful local business! Thank you so much for being a great part of this community, I feel lucky that I live so near this shop. <3
Great shop with great staff! Knowledgeable, solution-oriented employees with experience with mountain, road and commuter bikes, components and gear. In my numerous interactions with staff I have experienced great customer service, and quality help with challenging bike-related problems (wheel building, etc.). I regularly recommend this shop to friends and family in the area. This has become my go-to shop in Vancouver.
Awesome shop and service. Anyone can sell anything but to have an outstanding customer service, professionalism and truly care that people are buying the right gear is a different story. Ross has it all. Thank you for the amazing service, advice and honesty.
When I brought my brand new, Rad expand 5 e-bike, to Mactalla for an adjustment of the steering column, I got the best service! I have complete confidence in this business, excellent, courteous, above and beyond the call of duty! Thank you everyone, for starting me off right
