My experience with Nazanin at Macushlaw was excellent, she was so approachable, professional, kind and helpful. I was dealing with probate issues for my fathers estate and had visits with other lawyers who were arrogant and intimidating and I just felt so lost. I never felt like this with her. You can tell she is there to help, she even went out of her way to give me more information. So happy with their service and would highly recommend!

I paid $1000 for their basic will package through a retainer held in trust, but then after I paid, the lawyer told me that certain aspects of my situation were out of scope of the package and that if I wanted those things included I would have to be billed at an hourly rate (the hourly rate deducted from the retainer). I wish someone had explained what was included in the package before I paid the money.

I had concerns with the language included in the draft of the rep agreement which contained what looked like a 'do not resuscitate' clause. Since I knew nothing about this kind of document or what the wording meant I asked the lawyer a few questions about the wording to seek legal guidance.

The lawyer told me in an email that the language was standard language but I still didn’t understand what it meant and it seemed vague. He provided me a link to a website about rep agreements called nidus. When I read through nidus it said these kinds of clauses are better left out of a rep agreement altogether. I felt very confused by the different info I was getting. The lawyer also said I needed to finalize everything by the end of the month and I felt pressure. I later found out he was leaving the firm but no one bothered to tell me that. I didn’t feel ready yet to sign. The lawyer also asked me if I would like to pay my representative but then the nidus resource he provided me with said that reps can’t be paid unless the Supreme Court authorizes it. I felt more and more confused.
The lawyer said that I’d be billed at an hourly rate for my questions because they were outside of the scope of the wills package and cause significantly more work for the lawyer.
I wanted to hire a lawyer to get solid legal guidance before signing anything and i didn't realise I would be charged by the hour for asking certain questions or that those were outside of the scope of the package. He also said I’d be billed hourly for small changes to the clauses in the template such as changing one clause from "hourly" to "lump sum".

I asked to change lawyers since I’d worked with a lawyer here in the past and had a good experience. At first I was allowed to change lawyers but then was told only if I paid the hourly rate moving forward. I believe the hourly rate was $275 but I wasn't informed on what the new lawyer was going to charge. Seeing fees might end up being beyond my reach and not happy that the terms of the agreement had changed, I eventually asked for a full refund so that I could just move on.

The law firm agreed to refund me the full $1000 but only if I sign a statutory declaration and delete the emails and the incomplete drafts. I’d never heard of a 'Stat Dec' before, didn’t know what it was or where to get one. Weeks later after many requests they emailed me a draft to sign but I didn’t feel comfortable with that as a solution.

Up to today I will only be refunded $500 until I sign the statutory declaration saying that I have deleted the drafts and the emails containing them. They said they thought I was somehow planning to obtain and use their incomplete drafts free of charge which sounded absurd to me and left me even more dumbfounded. I am a repeat client and thought I would have been treated better.

I was also sent a "cease and desist" letter by the owner of this firm stating that I had been spreading false information about my experience in my review of the firm, which I don't agree with. The owner downloaded 10 pages of comments and post history he believed to be my personal reddit account and sent it to me as a pdf file along with his cease and desist letter.

I thought I’d get back the refund in early august but up to now (Oct 9th) haven’t received it. They said they mailed me a cheque in late September but it was returned to sender due to an incomplete address so I’m still waiting for the $500 to arrive.

I have decided to look for another lawyer do my estate planning.

If I could leave more than 5 stars I would! Naz is very knowledgeable. The help I was needing was in regards to a will and the executor of that will. She was able to answer every question I had and in a way I could understand. When I would email her she would get back to me very quickly. She took all the time I needed, did not rush me and spoke respectful to me. She was incredibly kind and generous. I have had many other interactions with lawyers and I can say that speaking with and interacting with Naz was the easiest and most pleasurable experience I have had with any lawyer. Her prices were far better than any other quote I received from other lawyers. I would highly recommend Naz and her firm for any legal help you may need.
