If you’re reading this, chances are you’re looking for a new salon and/or stylist. Well look no further! If you’re anything like me, finding a new stylist is like finding a new mechanic! Both paramount in my world. The salon is happy and chill. The staff are happy and chill. It’s just a happy and chill place to go. And then there’s the staff and stylists. My first introduction was with senior stylist Cryzta, who carefully walked me through how I was feeling about my current hair and we took baby steps from there. And almost 8 months later I am so happy we did. Another thing I love, love, love about this salon is that you feel totally comfortable if your stylist is unavailable, you can go to one of the other stylists - no pressure at all! That is how I ended up with what I am referring to as “ The Quinn” haircut! Stylist, Quinn, bravely took some much needed length off that was just the “pick-me-up” I needed. So many people have asked me where I got my hair cut and I’m telling them “Oh thanks! It’s called “The Quinn Bob” (I coined it that!) Her name is Quinn at Maffeo Salon and Day Spa - Old Quarter”. They’re ALL amazing!

I’m real fussy about my haircuts, Maffeo Salon has always given me the one thing I’ve never really had with other barbers or stylists. Consistency.
Customer service is great too, coat check, good coffee while you wait, and my stylist Quinn always delivers.
If you have curly hair, and are real fussy, I’d recommend Quinn.

Just had my first appointment with Quinn I love my hair, she did a wonderful job. Salon is super cute and clean very professional. Fresh coffee on site love this place. 10/10

Beware of their pricing as it seems fluid. I was charged $20 more than their advertised price on their website for the unwind package. When I questioned it they said their website is “under maintenance” and prices have gone up. I don’t think the price change should go into effect until the advertised price is accurate and the customers are aware of the price change before the appointment. I felt ripped off. Also, I was disappointed as this is the only spa I’ve been to that doesn’t have massage chairs at the pedicure stations. The staff were lovely, but I wouldn’t return.

I am very picky about my hair, I NEED a real artist to understand how I like to have it. This is the only place I go. The service is exemplary, the atmosphere is very welcoming and relaxing and comfortable, and all the staff member are super friendly.

Super impressed with the salon and the overall atmosphere of it! I had a great experience with Quinn and felt listened to and respected, and I left the salon feeling beautiful and educated about my hair. The stylists here seem passionate about what they do and it reflects in their work:)

Christa was awesome, she helped me with an amazing cut and style, she gave me advice and followed up with it, I have had nothing but compliments on my hair this past week, found my new stylist!

Everyone of team members at Maffeo's took time to connect and authentically ask about my comfort, communicating that I was valued and my experience mattered to them. This level of service, combined with the skills of Master Stylist, Brian, made this the best experience I have had in any salon.

I’ve had 2 facials and 1 massage at Maffeo and they have all been amazing. The latest was a facial given by Sharlie and as always I left feeling ultra relaxed. The atmosphere as well as facial itself leaves nothing to be desired.

We only did a consultation hoping everything goes smoothly for our daughter she's doing a rainbow style mind of hair. It's alot, but she saved up half and this was 1 of the top 5 places.

Great salon with great vibes, awesome crew! Jenna has the patience of a saint, Kaira is a total Color guru! Brian the owner is an all around great human being, they ALL are!
I know exactly what I want as I also managed a hair salon in NYC and worked with top notch stylists and not many stylist listen. They listened and redone until My hair was exactly as I wanted it!

One of the only two times in my curly hair life that I have left a salon feeling truly happy with the end result, and had a stylist that actually understands and is skilled at working with curly hair. Kyra took the time to listen sincerely and had a measured approach, and did a fabulous job on my cut and style. Naturally curly girls in the area, go see her!:)

Got hair coloured dirty blonde from a bleach blonde mix with natural dirty blonde coming in. Kyra is amazing and so delightful, you can tell she actually cares and is very knowledgable with what she does. I appreciate everyone there but Kyra definitely knows her stuff and is amazing at it! Me and my mom go to her for all our hair services. Decent cost for amazing performance. 100% recommend Kyra for colouring!

Absolutely amazing I had kyra as a stylist and can I say I was absolutely in shock! She took my hair from red brassy and just terrible colour to this beautiful blond and brown highlights IN ONE SESSION I was STUNNED when I saw the transformation! I was almost in tears of how amazing it looked I definitely 100% recommend her to anyone she does incredible work I’m seriously just so happy with my results! Will definitely be coming back again and asking for her!:)

Best hair cut experience I've had hands down! Brian did my hair cut and I am SO impressed with the results. He was VERY professional! He listened to what I wanted done and he delivered! If you have just moved to Nanaimo or are looking for a new hairdresser I 100% recommend Brian and his team at Maffeo salon!

I have complicated hair, it's really thick and long so it's a lot of work to cut. I've been looking for a hairdresser now for the past five years, I've even been referred to a few hairdressers by friends and it always turned out to be a negative experience. I wasn't happy with the results or the converse left me feeling unsettled. Brian did the opposite! Really good conversation and the other staff were friendly and helped to make the experience even more enjoyable and comfortable.

Side note the home this salon is in is beautiful! Which makes for a delightful atmosphere:)

Christa E.was lovely. I've seen her twice now for an annual hair cut. She takes the time to understand your hair and comes up with a plan to get you the look you are seeking, explaining her process and checking in with you throughout. She also gives a mean scalp massage!

Booked on line on their website for hair cut.chose a senior stylist pricing $48-$60.when time came to pay was charged $80.was told by stylist that prices had changed during covid.called back later to inquire as to the the current accuracy of prices on website and was told they were up to date.was not happy being charged an extra $20 without being notified beforehand.hair cut in general was ok.

My haircut rocks the free world! And guess what — it’s 80$ and Brian is WORTH every PENNY! Is this New York around here? !

The worst hair cut EVER. Plus, I had to listen to the owner/stylist blab and brag about his life for an hour. Way too over-priced.not worth it at all. Very disappointed.

I don't know what I would do without this salon! I love the way Brian and the team cuts and styles my hair! He has this amazing technique for curly thick hair! Prior to meeting Brian, washing my hair was a task and not a fun one. My recent appointment felt very safe and the salon was clean and sanitized. Can't wait to go back and get my hair dyed soon! If you are looking for a great salon, I highly recommend this business. I have also had other treatments including manicures, pedicures and waxing done here previously at this salon! This is a great downtown business in an amazing heritage building!

I just had an amazing massage and facial. Christine did a great job and I feel wonderful. I would recommend this salin in a heartbeat!

My boyfriend bought me WaySpa gift certificate last Christmas. There’s a reason why took me so long to use. Today Christine did a full body massage on me and I could not recommend her more! Perfect pressure and relaxing! I will definitely be seeing her again.
On arrival fellow was kind and welcoming. I did not wait long and Christine, friendly and welcoming also, brought me to a clean peaceful relaxing room. Thank you for a wonderful visit!

Always have had super good experiences with everyone working here. All the staff is super friendly, and I've been happy with my cut everytime I've been.

Brian has been doing my hair for over a decade and I would not go anywhere else - why would you when you get compliments on your hair from random strangers every time you get it done? ! A wonderful atmosphere, great staff and always great conversation! You would not be disappointed with any of the stylists!

Returned for 2nd apt today but forgot mask. They told me I could BUY a paper mask that cost 50 cents but were going to charge me $4.00! I couldn't believe they would charge anything as a courtesy considering they are ridiculously expensive to begin with. I left! I do not support greedy people!

A great atmosphere with very friendly staff. Brian makes sure to do an excellent job every time I go, he takes the time to get to know every client that comes through the door. Plus the coffee is amazing!

Wonderful salon! I have been to a few day spas here in Nanaimo and based off of my experiences, Maffeo is by far my favorite. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable and they do their job well. Great prices and excellent value.

I had the most amazing experience at Maffeo last week. I couldn't speak more highly of their service and attention. For years I came to Maffeo to have my hair done and always found it was The best in Nanaimo. When I moved to Vancouver I decided to change salons and found one I loved in the West end. My hair had always turned out nicely until a few weeks ago when somehow I ended up with orange roots and the ends were still a nice natural blonde. I needed to get it fixed but was so nervous about damage since it had already been lightened. I went to see the Owner Brian for a toner and instead he changed around his entire day, did highlights and low lights throughout and spent the entire day fixing my hair. Not to mention the insanely amazing head massage after a deep conditioning treatment by his assistant. Overall it was a total vip experience and I will be flying over from Vancouver to have my hair done from now one. Thank you Maffeo!

Gina and Cole deserve the world, and here’s why: I hesitated for 3 weeks before booking an appointment at a salon as i had 3 separate matted spots in my hair the size of Russia. When i went into Maffeo I was expecting the worse as i had already prepared to be leaving looking like Britney Spears circa 2007. This fear continued as i sat with Gina because her initial response was exactly as expected when she said with heaps of sympathy that i either need to shave my head or cut all of this out, which would leave me going from hair below my breasts, to about 1-2 inches from my scalp. I was horrified but couldn’t speak as i’ve had weeks to mentally prepare for this (as much as you can as a woman who loves her hair). Gina said she would ask for a second opinion before she starts cutting to see if there was anything they could suggest. Gina came back with Cole minutes later as I was sitting in this chair in my personal hell knowing that nothing could fix this, as i had already tried masks, leave in treatments, essential oil treatments, hot oil treatments, detangler spray, detangler soaks, and a variety of brushes and combs. Without taking time to react, Cole immediately started detangling my hair. He was so gentle, calm, and collected while working through my hair knot after knot. Gina worked on the other side of my hair and kept the conversation light and positive, as well as kept reassuring me that it was okay and she would do everything she can, the amount of hair she was able to salvage is beyond me and i am so grateful. The support i received from Gina and Cole was one of the only things that got me through this as I was sitting in that chair imagining my bald head and wishing I could disappear. I’ve always had trouble with my hair as it is incredibly thick and mattes easily, however the state of my hair was probably the worst Gina and Cole had ever seen, especially so close to the scalp. I am so glad i went to see Gina and Cole, not only because my hair is SO NICE right now, but also because they did their very best to make me feel comfortable, which was amazing because my main reason for waiting so long was that i was embarrassed and didn’t think i could deal with the humiliation head on. They encouraged me to come back anytime, and no matter how bad my hair is to come in immediately as they will help with no judgement. I obviously don’t want to admit this was me or that i had let my hair get to the state it was, but recognition needs to be given when it is due. Thank you, thank you, thank you to Gina and Cole from the bottom of my heart.

Such a great salon and wonderful experience. I'm new to the area and, as as girls know, it is a difficult task finding someone new to do your hair! Gina was more than accommodating and really made me feel at ease the entire time, plus getting my hair styled in the front room while the sun was shining on me and palm trees were my view was amazing!:)

I had booked a pedicure with Emily. It was a relaxing experience. Emily did a marvelous job on my feet. My toes are soft and the nails are perfect. My feet look revitalized and sandal ready. Thank you Emily.

Kevin has been my hairdresser for near 20 years and I've followed him to each place. He always does a great job and the experience is always great. Maffeo salon is also a great place. The service is always great. Every time I go in I am greeted with a smile.

I go to Crysta for everything hair related and Tia everything esthetic related. Every time they do an amazing job!

Somehow forgot my appointment twice, debit went down for half an hour and they just made us wait, I understand tech doesn't cooperate, but maybe offer a discount on the next visit or even a water. Then when I decided to just use cash I got a fist full of change. You think with how many people work there they would be on top of the float.

Booked in with the owner Brian and finally walked out of a salon extremely happy with my hair cut. Worth every penny. Great ambiance and Brian's skills are amazing.
