Great little hole in the wall place. The food was great. Maggie (?) Was super friendly and really wants you to get the most out of the taste experience.

Hands down the best fish and chips I've ever had in Nanaimo. The fish was amazing, and the batter was perfect. Neither myself or my husband are a big fan of fries, but they were home cut and so good that we ate every last one. Price point is super reasonable for the portion size as well. We had a 2 piece cod with an extra piece of fish and it was enough for us to share. 10 out of 10 for service and quality. A hidden gem in Southgate. (According to my husband, if you're on OG from Nanaimo, this place is on par with the Cottage)

If you come in as a family of four to dine in, you can't order just 2 meals or appetizers to share otherwise they want to charge you extra money just for sitting down and using their forks, table and napkins. What a joke. Every single person is forced to order one meal otherwise you can't sit and eat. We just wanted to share and taste since we were passing by. Extremeley rude customer service. Do not go here. There are other better fish and chips options on the island.

EDIT TO OWNERS RACIST RESPONSE: Why are you mentioning other Indians and how they loved your food? We're not even Indian. Nice guess though. Why are you assuming our race? What does that have to do with anything? Oh I guess you're Chinese then! Well then I've been to other restaurants owned by Chinese people and they don't act like you.

We already had dinner somewhere else and were on the way back home so wanted to eat a light meal. At your so called dinner time, your whole restaurant was empty. Wow, we really took up space didn't we. There was only one family dining in. I've been to plenty of restaurants where you can go in for a drink, appetizer, share a meal amongst a friend and there is no issue. So your policy is made up. This place is just extremely stingy and will charge you for using a paper plate or fork. You don't even offer waiter service so stop acting like a high end restaurant. I've been here before and this rule wasn't in place and have shared a fish and chips meals with a friend. Don't talk about saving money. We could've ordered 4 more meals if we wanted too. Gladly had a better meal elsewhere and just wanted to sample a fish and chips meal. If you're this rude and stingy with customers, your business will shutdown soon. So glad we didn't spend a single dime here. Will be telling all our friends on the island about this place!

EDIT TO OWNER'S 2ND RESPONSE: Newsflash: There is no rule to how many restaurants you can dine in at. I can go to multiple restaurants and have multiple different cuisines in 1 day. I can eat 1 meal at a restaurant and want to eat something else while I'm on the road and dine in at the same time. No I'm not going to do take out when I'm far from my house and won't be able to finish 2 pieces of oily fish. So I'd rather share amongst my family so I don't waste your food and throw it in the garbage. This policy you have only applies to you and your restaurant. So stop trying to justify yourself on behalf of the WHOLE RESTAURANT/FOOD INDUSTRY.

This place is great! I’ve been traveling around the island for 4 months and have eaten a lot of fish and chips along the way. Hands down the best I’ve had. The crab cakes were very flavorful as well. Lots of crab meat not filler. It’s a pretty unassuming spot but the food and service is great. The staff working here are super friendly and you can tell that take pride in their food. We’ll be back for sure.

It's a Nanaimo institution. Food is quite fairly priced for the high quality you get and the staff are very friendly. They always seem to be looking for ways to improve their business and I can respect that. They make their food fresh, none of that heatlamp stuff so everything is really crispy.

Found this place randomly when we were looking for a post hike meal. Simon was awesome! Value for food is awesome - totally worth it. It's a seafood market but also sells such good food! Highly recommend the prawn tacos and cod fish and chips.

Delicious! From the quality and freshness to the light batter and the crispy fries and they can literally drink the tarter anyone in nanaimo wanting a good fresh “Fish” Anything! Maggie’s is AWESOME

Overpriced. $13 for one 4 ounce piece of fish. C-Lovers here charge $18 for all you can eat. I'm sorry you don't like what I said, but that's the way I and my family feel. Have a Blessed Day

We had fish and chips here and it was delicious. Fresh fish with chips, a little bowl salad and sauce. The restaurant is a bit shabby, but the food is very good.

The breaded prawns were amazing and the Ling cod was amazing and the fries were amazing. Prawns were my favourite thou.

Best fish and chips in Nanaimo hands down! Fresh and crispy with just the right amount of batter. Large size portions for what you’re paying for. A must go to for your fish and chips cravings.

Great food and service. The decor is a bit odd (is it a restaurant, is it a grocery store?) ; however, this matters little when you are there for thin crispy batter on delicious fish (our group had the cod and haddock) and thick cut crispy fries. Delicious!

Really fun, awesome lady running this place. I loved how enthusiastic she was about sharing some of her favorite foods she ate as a child. I was just expecting your average fish n chips joint, but the touch of Oriental culture really brightens the place up and overall made it quite memorable. I may have visited at an unfortunate time (near closing), but I withheld one star because I could smell a mildly fishy smell coming from the back. As much as I enjoyed my experience I'm not sure I would eat seafood in that atmosphere, might be hard to get past my senses telling me it may not be as fresh as it should be.

I just ordered for the first time. I got the 2 pc cod dinner. It was delicious! Nice thick pieces of fish. Highly recommend.

Really amazing fish and chips! We got one of the fish and chips meals and a clam chowder and it was hands down the best I’ve had in years! Strongly recommend coming here if you’re hungry for tasty fish and chips! (And chowder!)

My first time at Maggie's and I wish that I had found it way earlier than tonight. Outstanding seafood, coming back for sure, best deep fried oysters, my favorite. Loved my experience with family having dinner at Maggie's

Fish is delicious and nicely done. French fries are okay but could be cooked more. It would be nice if they offered onion rings or salad, etc as a side instead of fries. Very nice people.

Sub par food. The fish that was served to my group of peers and I caused us stomach pains and vommiting shorty afterwards. Not to even mention that the portions were served unequally. The food took NEARLY (not exactly but nearly) an hour to arrive. The claims that their food is high quality is absolutely not true and they will argue with your review for some reason as if it would change much. As for the 5 star reviews that were left here, I wouldn't trust them. Look further down the review list and be aware of what people have pointed out and criticized. You can claim the positive reviews out weight the negatives but that does not mean the 1 star reviews should be overlooked. You can claim whatever you wish on your reply but I am only noting my experience.

Terrible. I had the 2 piece halibut ($30), my friend had the 2 piece cod ($20). Halibut fillets weren’t whole, looked like multiple small pieces of fish pieced together to make a full fillet/s. Was very fishy tasting which is uncommon for halibut. My friends cod was gross. Held the fillet up and oil was constantly dripping out. He also had a fly in his tartar sauce. Inside the restaurant was a shambles, multiple people waiting a long time for their food. We waited an hour to be disappointed. Expected a lot better, wouldn’t go back.

Went again for the gluten free 1 pce Halibut Fish and Chips with someone who is Celiac! Call them ahead of time and they will preheat the gluten free fryer! Very delicious gluten free batter!
I was able to buy chowder, prawns and Gyoza to cook at home!

Delicious huge lightly breaded fish, generous chips. Amazing and friendly. My go to spot for fish and chips. They have regular specials and deals. If there is a wait, as there often is, it is worth the wait.

A hidden gem! Very unassuming place to eat, but delicious meals! The batter is very crispy, and thin, so you really maximise the awesome fish! Not greasy! Very large portions, and the homemade tarter sauce and coleslaw were lovely.

Great service and very friendly. The food was tasty as well BUT I had 1 piece of salmon and 5 oysters, no fries but extra coleslaw which was 5 tablespoons worth of coleslaw, and it cost $30!

We had Alaskan halibut meals and it was amazing. So tasty with homemade coleslaws and tartar sauce. Highly recommend.

Best gluten free fish & fries in Nanaimo. My husband and non celiac girl also raved about the regular cod and fries they had, large portions and wonderful friendly service. We have enjoyed the food multiple times and will continue to come back for more

Service was fast and polite. We had the special Ling Cod. It was well battered, hot and crispy but a little flat for flavor. Definitely requires the tartar sauce etc.

Awesome sea food. This is cod bites. Today I had prawns and they were so good and big served with coleslaw and home made fries. You have to try them

Had the Snapper, Haddock, Cod, and Halibut. Was greeted very nicely and even recommended what meal combo to get. Hospitality was amazing and the portions were bang for buck. Breading is not overpowering and the fish is fresh. The French fries are also delicious and compliment the fish well. I recommend the haddock and halibut! Great experience and will definitely recommend to others:)

Disappointed fooled by good reviews. Fries soggy reheated and half were cold. Black ends on the potatoes and you could taste that the oil hadn't been changed in awhile. Ended up throwing most of it in the garbage.

They were so so so so nice! The vibe is so welcoming - feels just like home.

Upon recommendation, we tried the snapper, Alaskan cod, haddock, and halibut fish and chips and the portions were SUPER YUMMY and BIG. The fish was huge and battered lightly (the batter was also delicious) and came with plenty of tartar sauce (not that you need it since the fish was so good) and some coleslaw

The fries also were fresh cut and delicious! There’s so much of it too!

Definitely bang for buck, would 100% recommend

Okay not the best looking restaurant but wow these guys are outstanding when it comes to fish and chips. The batter is so different from all the other fish and chip places and this is what makes it stand out from the crowd. Very clean and hygienic as well. Seriously, if you are looking for high end fish and chips don't give this place a miss.

The deep fried cod was exceptionally delicious! And the fries that came with we're surprisingly very good. Maggie came out to ask us how things were and was very hospitable. Highly recommend stopping here when passing through Nanaimo!

Hands down best fish and chips I’ve had along the coast bewtween here and So Cal. Portions are perfect. Light and crispy on the outside, moist and flaky on the inside. Tarter sauce is next level, made in house. Must try!

Great place. Went with the whole family! My two boys ate up the fish and chips quite happily. The staff there were friendly and came over personally to check on us. Will go back for sure

Just happened by this place when driving to Tofino. With a group of 8 so we had a rather large order of various items. It was amazing. Huge portion. Top 3 Fish and Chips I ever had. I loved the Cole slaw. Plenty of non-fried and gluten free iptiond. 100% recommend this place.
