Amazing. You saved Kasper's life when things looked hopeless. There's not enough "thank yous" in the universe to express our gratitude. Taking the time to come in after hours to help was unexpected and made all the difference in a life and death situation where the other animal hospital was unable to do.

We have told several people about the level of care we received. We appreciated the time that was spent with our pets.

They are compassionate and considerate. The urgent care vet was available within an hour of when I called in. I'm very grateful they were there. Responsiveness is key.

They were super helpful in helping me with my kitty and making sure he was all good to go and very well taken care of I'm very impressed with the level of care that this center has. I highly recommend them and I feel like my kitty would say the same!

Staff are helpful and efficient, always willing to answer questions and I can see the care they show our pets.

The people here are incredible. I woke up to my bunny not eating which any bunny owner knows is terrifying. Everywhere we called was full but Mahalo managed to squeeze us in considering the situation.

My bunny luckily made a sudden and unexpected recovery after hours of worrying (as they do) so I didn’t need to visit today, but we’ll be switching to Mahalo and booking a regular check up ASAP.

I find this hospital to be incredibly expensive. I had another rabbit at VCA in Nanaimo in October for a very similar situation and treatments, x-rays, IV fluids, meds etc and all and the bill was substantially less.

I appreciate how quickly you were able to get my rabbit in care. Thank you to Dr. Josh for how kind and sympathetic he was.

They are compassionate for the welfare of animals. I needed to renew my pets pain medication on a Tuesday and was told by 4 vets I would have to wait until Friday or Monday (dog was in pain then). Another vet recommended Mahalo and they were kind and understanding all while keeping the welfare of my dog in mind. 1000% recommend them and will use them as long as I live in Nanaimo!

We moved to the area a while ago and dragged our heels finding a new vet. I was able to get an appt with Dr Josh @ Mahalo and they did an excellent job.

The nurse made my nervous dog feel so happy and calm. The care she and Dr Josh gave my dog wasn’t rushed or dismissive. They listened to my concerns and shared their opinions and observations patiently and professionally.

My dog loved them and I was so proud of how well he behaved as they checked out his mouth, gums, ears, glands. A couple vaccine updates and he was good to go at a very good cost.

I’m so thrilled to have a vet we can trust again.

Had a great experience at Mahalo with our Shepherd as always. We are treated as family every time we go in and feel the love that every individual has for our Shepherd. Myriam takes the time to talk us through our options and ensure that we understand each avenue.

I was very impressed with all the staff especially the Vet who helped us. Beau was afraid to go inside and so they allowed us to do some of the appointment outside! It meant a lot to us because it showed how much they do care for our sweet puppy dog! Going the extra mile!

Not the best experience.
We had searched for a vet near our new home in the Cowichan Valley without luck and one clinic finally told us to try Mahalo. It was at least an hour's drive from our home and we waited several months to get an appointment.
My main concern was the vet herself. Her presentation did not match the reviews here. She swept into the room about 10 minutes after our appointment started and barely looked at our dog even though this was a first visit. When I mentioned that fireworks make our dog jittery, the vet immediately recommended a prescription antidepressant. Our dog is not depressed or normally nervous, but is affected by fireworks during Halloween and New Year's Eve explosions. It was difficult to understand how pumping a dog full or drugs 365 days a year was a good approach to a time-limited problem. Nevertheless we kept our minds open.
Next the vet told us our dog needed to have her teeth cleaned. We were very aware of this, as our vet in Vancouver had recommended we get this done once we'd moved into our new home in the Duncan, BC, area.
The vet told us she would send an estimate, but I had to call back after several weeks as I hadn't received one. When they finally emailed the estimate the included extraction of between 4 and 8 teeth. I found this upsetting and curious as our dog is only 6 years old, healthy, and had a long snout, very different from the mashed face breeds who have dental problems. I called to see if there was an error, and the office assured me that after a 30-second look at my dog's mouth, the vet was sure she would have to do many extractions.
Our next step was to find another vet, which we did. Our dog saw the new vet for her x-rays and cleaning today. Result: NO extractions were required.
I realize that no professional can hit it off with every potential client, but I will say that both my husband and I were uncomfortable with the Mahalo vet's presentation and attitude. The other staff in the clinic seemed nice enough.

Dr. Josh Tollman is the first Veterinarian to show care about my dog's situation. And that will stick with me for a lifetime. After many, failed vet appointments over the years. The team behind the scenes have also showed care for Bowie and his sensitive nature. The best thing though, is the clear communication Josh has been able to give about my dogs issues that have made me feel confident to move forward and that there is going to be a solution to his suffering. When Josh followed up 4 weeks after the initial apt.it made me feel not forgotten and showed tremendous care even getting Bowie in the same day for a quick check up, I was not expecting that at all.

Great clinic. No one cares more than Dr. Miriam. They always work to take the best care of my pets at the most reasonable prices possible

Everyone there has a love for animals shining from their souls like a beacon. What a wonderful, happy place for all our fur and feather babies. I wasn't rushed out the door but given all the time I needed.

Glad to finally find a vet in Nanaimo that I'm so happy with! I trust Myriam and the team and have had nothing but excellent experiences. I never feel rushed and the team has been so accommodating in many ways. I appreciate the staff's compassion for their work and clients.

Love that they have the option of urgent care, especially as I have "exotic" pets (guinea pigs) that most other vets won't see, and they deteriorate fast if not seen. Staff are all very friendly, kind and helpful, and can’t say enough good things about Dr Myriam!

I was thoroughly impressed with Dr. Myriam and her team. We never felt rushed and they answered all our questions. Great with our bearded dragon. Highly recommend them to all reptile owners.

We've always been happy with everyone at the clinic and how they have treated both our cats, but especially their approach in helping to care for our beloved Kirby (who had diabetes) until he passed.

Everyone friendly and helpful. Good communication with helpful suggestions. Genuine care for my bird. Knowledgeable.

Very rude vets, made it seen like we lied about everything. No proof of findings, tests or x-rays we paid for. Fought for over a week to get our bearded dragon into them as no other vet deals with them. Finally once we got him in the clinic there "reptile expert" proceeded to lie to our face about these "conditions" that he had even tho nothing but an upper respatory was the only actual thing wrong. They did nothing for his actual problem and due to there neglect he died not even 48hours later cause he couldn't breathe

Now we are out hundreds of dollars for emergency care he never received. Vets like this need there license revoked. Pulling all my animals from the clinic and recommending to everyone I know to do the same. Will NEVER go back

Btw reptile expert is Brittany Hall. She is an alcoholic, coke head and a pathological liar.

Lovely staff, amazing Doctors, always a positive experience. We went through quite a few vets who weren't the right fit, and I'm so glad we found Dr. Nancy and the rest of the team at Mahalo. You truly feel like family when you walk through the doors. The care shown is unparalleled. Whenever Lucy is there she is treated with patience and love and gets the absolute best care

Everyone I've met at Mahalo has been very friendly and supportive. They treat my pet with care and tenderness. I also like that vets have been reasonably onetime for appointments. Mahalo has a portable ultra sound for routine diagnostics that has been very helpful for my pet. Mahalo is really great about providing all the information and options that I need in considering my pets health.

Good, better than Central Island Emengrency Hospital. I didnt understand why thry didnt answer. I went down. Thdy couldnt talk to me about 6 to 8 nurses. But Mahola Vdt Hospital did better. Than uncommunicated at Ememgrency. Too many nurses one dr

I love Dr. Miriam she is amazing. There is not enough vets for the kind of volume that this office deals. I dropped my dog off at 11am at 3: 30 she still hadn't been seen because of the emergencies they had. I fully understand that am animal hurt needs to be seen ASAP but charging $62.00 and my dog not been seen is ridiculous.

Feel so thankful to have Dr. Myriam and her awesome team on Nick's side. They made him feel safe and that made it a very positive first time visit to a vet clinic. Dr. Myriam was kind and patient, building a trust with Nick willing to take the time it needed for him to settle. The care shown and clear concise information to help me do the best for my dog is exactly what I was looking for.

Such amazing care and compassion. I took my baby girl Gracie there 2 nights ago.sadly she had to be put to sleep. Miriam the vet came to my place was here about an hour and helped transition Gracie to Rainbow bridge.

I have been extremely impressed with the staff, facility, high level of service, and reasonable cost at Mahalo Veterinary Hospital. In particular, doctors like Dr. Myriam have gone above and beyond to provide excellent care for my dog Nova. I wouldn't trust my pet with many, but I have no second thoughts bringing her here. I would recommend them in a heartbeat to all pet owners!

I've had pets for my whole life (over 40 years). And pets I was solely responsible for financially, personally and emotionally for about 28 years. I've had Cats, Dogs, Rats (yes, Rats. And they make excellent, intelligent, trainable and affectionate little friends), exotic reptiles, sugar gliders, ferrets, a crow and a raccoon.
So yeah. I've dealt with my fair share of veterinarians and vet clinics over my pet owning life. From surgeries to "she seems weird today" situations. And I felt a loyalty to my vet that I now see, was undeserved.
One visit to Mahalo changed everything. My usual vet couldn't take my ferret in an emergency, because it was getting late, so I called Mahalo and they took her in immediately. From the very first second I walked in I was impressed with the caring way they treated us both. The vets assistant's were so caring, gentle and loving towards her. And when I had to make the hard decision to have her euthanized, they were nothing but understanding and caring. I walked out of there bawling my eyes out, but so unbelievably happy I chose Mahalo.
I'll never go anywhere else again¡)

We are very grateful to have found Mahalo Veterinary Hospital. My dog was in critical condition and dying. The staff and veterinarian went above and beyond as soon as we carried him through the doors. They sprang in to action right away to stabilize him. They informed me of the costs with each action they took to get my permission beforehand. The staff were compassionate with us as well as our pet.

This place is unlike anywhere I have ever been to – they truly care about animals. The veterinarian took the time to consult with specialists and even contact manufacturing reps (in another country) to provide the best care possible. She explained the results in detail so that we would understand what was happening. She is knowledgeable (30+ yrs experience in critical care), genuine, compassionate, and truly wants what is best for the owner and pet.

The veterinarian literally stayed with my dog herself all night to provide care. They came in at 6am and stayed until 11pm (after hours during a snow storm). They said that we could call or visit any hour. They phoned us every night to check in. When we picked our dog up, the vet’s partner was laying with him on the floor providing comfort and then hugged me as he knew how worried we had been. I cannot express how much it meant to us to have such wonderful care at such a very difficult time. They let us know that it was not about money and it showed. We were charged an extremely reasonable amount and yet we had the best service I have ever seen from a veterinary hospital. Thank you Dr. Miriam and staff!

If you are not THRILLED with your current vet, you need to check these guys out! As someone who does rescue and fostering, we have a lot of animals. Every time we have been in, I have learned something new. I now have diagnoses for my animals various ailments, not just drugs to treat their symptoms. I now feel I am a valuable, knowledgeable partner in my animals health and well being, not just their guardian. I now know my furkids ARE getting the best care available, anywhere.

First, the staff here are top notch, and definitely know their stuff.

Secondly, this is not your typical 5 minutes with the vet and out the door, with a fistfull of meds; chances are you will be with the vet for at least 15 minutes, if not longer, due to their extensive thoroughness obtaining yoyur pets health history and doing their physical exam.

Thirdly, they ACTUALLY care! The staff at this hospital all has the same philosophy (from the front counter, to the techs, to the vets) they look at the entire health and well being of the patient (not just what their human thinks the issue is), and are committed to ensuring our pets have quality in their lives.

Are they the cheapest vet around, possibly not, but neither will you get "symptom only" treatment. Will you save money in the long run actually treating the PROBLEM and not just the symptom, YES.

Will they ask you to run tons of "just in case" tests, nope.

Will they rush you into surgery without blinking, nope.

Do they get that we are not all made of money, YES.

Do they offer a variety of treatment options and explain the pro's and con's of each, YES.

Are they the most punctual, nope. Due to their insistence that emergencies come first and their thoroughness with your pets health history and physical exam, appointments do tend to run long.but I would rather wait, and get an in depth investigation into my pets illness then a 5 minute chat and "we need to run tests" or "that will be $200 in meds" that happens at most vets; and I love that, in an emergency, I won't be waiting two weeks to see MY vet!

Lastly, they are open to 9pm most nights, and do their own after hours calls. The next time you call YOUR vet with an emergency and they tell you "sorry, no appointments until next week" call Mahalo, and discover what true Veterinary Care is all about.

We came to Mahalo for our pet duck Lucy. She was almost not going to make it. Our vet was spectacular with helping us with our avain issues! We went back a few more times for follow ups and it has been such a relief to have our duck make it through it all! Very friendly staff! Will always return! Thanks guys!:)

I have nothing but good things to say about Mahalo Vet. Dr. Myriam is absolutely amazing and so is her staff! You can tell each and everyone of them really cares about you and your animal. This is by far the best vet I've ever gone to! Thank you, thank you!

Words can't express the gratitude I have for the WHOLE team at Mahalo Vet. They were the last vet hospital open, we had never been there before, and we called an hour before they closed because our young cat was sick and started declining. Chris who answered the phone was so gentle and kind. The team ended up allowing us to come by last minute when they should have been gone home- the vet technician Fran was so kind and showed my cat so much love. While we waited in the room with our cat the team checked up on us numerous times to make sure we were okay as the vet was tied up caring for another sick pet. Miriam the veterinarian was the most thorough vet I have ever experienced, she explained everything she was checking and she answered all of my questions and had very good best side manner. This small team of three made us feel so cared for. At no point did we feel like an inconvenience- they were all smiles till the very last minute when we left. Even if our outcome had been bad, the genuine care we received made all the difference to us. We will be a loyal client to them as long as we have pets in Nanaimo.

Amazing service, came to our rescue when we were in urgent need. After a bad experience at a different clinic, Mahalo vet has changed our view on veterinarians in a very positive way. The only vet we will go to from now on!

This is the best veterinary hospital I have ever been to! I was traveling with my dog in Canada and needed to send her back home (Belgium). I had the hardest time finding a veterinary clinic that could give me an appointment and the once I found were unable to help me. Mahalo hospital made time for me the very next day. They helped me with all the research and took great care in filling out the necessary documents. To top it all off, they had close contact with the federal vet who had to sign off on my paperwork. When we realized something was wrong, they gave me another appointment and re-did everything! Nothing was rushed and I felt really cared for! They made time for me twice very last minute and I was able to send my dog home with on time and without to much stress.

They have a big heart for animals and treat the owners absolutely fantastic!

I took my budgie, Molly, to see Dr. Miriam today due to rapid respiration’s. I had called my usual Vet clinic but was told I couldn’t get in to see an Avian vet until Tuesday. It was suggested that I take her to Courtney or over to Vancouver via plane or try Mahalo vet. I could not imagine taking a small bird to Vancouver in a plane or driving an hour and a half to seek help for Molly! From the time I spoke to Rosie on the phone, to meeting Dr. Miriam, I felt Molly was in a special clinic. I went in as an Emergency visit, it was very busy and we were there for about 2 and 1/2 hours, but everything Miriam did was explained thoroughly and respectfully with care and attention to the fragility of a sick bird. She dispensed medication in single doses for accuracy of administration. I have had sick birds before but this care was special. I am very happy that I took Molly here today. Also knowing that Miriam is on call 24 hours is very reassuring. Thank you to the team at Mahalo!

On November 30th my husband and I had finally come to terms to end the life of our almost 19 year old baby Samson. We were very sad and apprehensive however the staff at Mahalo Veterinary were compassionate and extremely gentle and caring, not only with Samson but also his grieving mom and dad. I cannot express how much it meant to us to have such wonderful care at such a very difficult time. Although we do not have a pet anymore we are telling everyone how your veterinary hospital is outstanding in patient care.

Dr Myriam is absolutely wonderful! Mahalo Vet Clinic is by far the greatest addition to Nanaimo.
She's kind, informed, available, highly-skilled and willing to work with Piper and I although I am extremely Alternatively and Holistically-Biased. Still, should Piper need Allopathic care - emergency or related issues, I can guarantee that we'll see Dr Myriam.

This place is absolutely amazing. I was heart broken when our puppy came down with a very serious virus but the vet at Mahalo took such good care of him and gave us everything we needed to address the problem. We were charged an extremely reasonable amount for our visit and yet we had the best service I have ever seen from a veterinary hospital. I am beyond thankful to have had both emotional and medical support from these folks. I would recommend this place for anyone and everyone that loves their pets and wants the best care out there. What a terrific veterinary hospital. The true dedication to their patients and families is unparalleled. Truly one of a kind care the surpasses any other vet in the region.

My vet told me I would need to wait two + weeks before they would be able to see my dog. My dog was very sick and I wasn't about to put her health in jeopardy. I called Mahalo Vet and they were able to get me in the same day. All the staff were absolutely amazing! My dog was diagnosed immediately. After a week of antibiotic she is now happy and healthy. Mahalo followed up with a genuine check in call. I will be switching vets to Mahalo:)

Honestly they were fantastic we brought our cat in at 8: 30 with a very infected paw they stayed with us till 11 o’clock that night just to make sure he was OK they were caring and wonderful people we will be going there from now on for sure!

So Happy to have finally found a vet who has been able to address my dogs skin issues and never ending ear infections. For the first time in my dogs 6 years, her skin is finally clear and she does not smell funky anymore. It makes me really happy because Molly is finally happy. I highly recommend Mahalo Veterinary Hospital for all your pets health issues.

After dealing with almost all the vets in town Mahalo Vet clinic is hands down the best care Bohdi has ever been given. His first visit was awesome the Dr understood the breed and behavior of the breed. Bohdi has had every test alive for allergies and has been given every possible medication and not one time did it relieve his itch nor odor. But cost huge dollars every visit and revisit for med's that did little. After the consultation with the Dr she was able to solve most of his itch issues as well the odor from his skin issues. OMG my Sheba for the first time in yrs slept all night.

As for major issues. Bohds had a mass on his rear left leg.noticed and options given in a rational way that made sense. They operated on Bohdi and removed his mass (turns out he is lucky as it was a fatty tissue mass), However they dealt with him so well.he never behaved scared walking into the office never wanted to bolt out the door all nervous. He was comfortable in the office area.
From the front office staff which are pleasant, polite and understand communication to the medical teams who have a calm rational method of dealing with your animals needs to the admin folks who are understanding and again polite.to walking out the door you feel like you have been respected, understood and your friends needs are of concern.

If you are considering a new vet or just looking for a vet I would only recommend Mahalo Veterinary clinic in Nanaimo, They are hands down the best vets I've dealt with in 20yrs.

The staff at this pet clinic are amazing. The veterinarian not only is brilliant but she has the experience you expect with the compassion that make you and your pet feel at home. Great technology and equipment. I really reccomend them take the time to bring your pet to a vet who shows you the diff mahalo makes. Cheers.
