Peaceful walk, easily accessible and not too busy. You can see a variety of birds, specially near the ponds. The views are good at the beach. I’d say this is a hidden gem if you like to walk and want to do some bird watching.
Easy and accessible paths to mudflats and the beach. This area is managed by the Wild Bird Trust and is a conservation space. Dogs are welcome on leash and on trails for the east side of the creek.
Parking is available at the Pacific Environmental Science Centre on weekends. For weekdays, there’s a small dirt lot off Dollarton to the west of the trails.
Small in area but a good spot for light walk and picnic.
What a wonderful walk! The trails are well maintained and easy for the likes of me, a senior with mobility issues. Didn't see many birds today but those I saw definitely impressed. And the birdsong whistling through the trees was enchanting. A quick trip to bug out of the heat definitely did not disappoint. So glad to have a conservation area in the heart of the big city.
Gorgeous. Great trails. I seriously love visiting Maplewood Flats. I recently discovered the Coast Salish Native Nursery on one of my visits! Highly recommended.
Nice little spot. Trails are one way to adhere with COVID protocols. Bring your rubber boots to explore the beaches surrounding the area. Trails are well maintained. Lots of birds plenty of birdwatchers.
I visited here in January during Covid. We spotted several chickadees and bushtits, spotted towhees, and a Cooper’s Hawk. Parking is limited. Even if you don’t spot many birds, it’s a nice easy trail.
Great place to come and enjoy the shoreline and the birds. Don't bring the dog, because they're not welcome in large parts of the flats, on account of the birds.
Nice trail. It is conservation trail so please be careful. It was some great views of Iet if there is not cloudy or rainy. Its not far from the 212 bus station. You have to walk only 30-40 meters and you reach the gate from the bus stop.
Lovely little conservation area with a nice, flat path to follow around the grounds. Lots of different plant and animal life to see. Also, the former site of an squat community, there are some models of the former buildings.
The parking situation was confusing, because the employee parking area have 10x as many spots as the visitor parking.
But the birds were adorable, and it's cool to have a natural spot in the city. The views across the water were entirely industrial, which is a bit of a trip.
