Another awesome bowl of Seafood Congee with Extra Ginger. Just the thing for a chilly day like today and works with my Gluten Free needs!

Great rice rolls. It’s hard to find it in the area so I think it’s great for being a neighborhood restaurant. This came to about $28? Or so so it’s not bad given the price of everything these days.

Pictured is the shrimp and scallop rice roll, Chinese donut and a fish congee (sorry took the photo after eating)

Some people compare it to Richmond which is a fair comparison but this has more parking, always have a seat available and rarely any traffic on weekends lol so it is always a stress free trip to get there.

Ate dinner with Husband on a Friday night. They opens until quite late for congee place. Ordered century egg and pork congee, it was great. Sat at table near by the door, a bit cold but the congee will definitely warmed you.

Clarification: not my store even with same name

Mom and pop restaurant, congee and rice rolls are just average, not worth going back for me

Food was solid. Nothing specially but just decent congee and rice rolls. However, the drinks were over priced and lack favors so, pass on the drinks if you go.

We had another AWESOME dinner with family at May Rice Roll & Congee. Authentic cuisine. Superb rice rolls and seafood fried rice! My favorite is the seafood congee! Super service and all around great experience. On Hastings near Willingdon in North Burnaby.

Food was amazing, definitely recommend the slice fish Congee and the Chinese donuts.and the owner was SO nice, treating me and my mother as long time customers. Very convenient to go if you live in burnaby heights or around the neighborhood. Very underrated and deserves WAY more attention than it gets. Im definitely coming here again

I was excited to try this place as there aren't many of these types of restaurants in Burnaby! Unfortunately, I can't say I was super impressed. I went during their breakfast special which I do wish ended later than 11: 30. The breakfast combo is $14.95 which seems worth it but I'll explain to you why it really wasn't worth it.

We ordered two congees, a rice roll with Chinese donut and rice roll with shrimp and scallop. The congee were okay, not the best congee but not the worst congee I've had. I do like that it came out piping hot and didn't get watery as I ate it. The rice rolls were definitely not worth it. The actual rice rolls itself were alright tasting but the filling was disappointing. The Chinese donut was one was definitely more worth than the shrimp and scallop, my only complaint about the Chinese donut is that it doesnt seem to be made fresh in house. The shrimp and scallop rice roll was almost laughable. It only had three shrimps and four small canned scallops and the server even took away the dish before we finished the last scallop so we only had three scallops. When I looked around at the other rice rolls people ordered, they too also lacked in fillings and barely had any. I think their rice rolls would be much better if they actually had a decent amount of fillings. I can order a rice roll at a dimsum place for $8-9 and its definitely more filled with protein.

Overall, I think I would prefer to make a trip to Richmond to eat this kind of food but I do hope to try this place again in the future and hopefully have a better experience

It seems like there are a lot of rice roll places popping up around town and I'm not opposed to it.

Tried the shrimp and beef rice rolls which were petty good. We were intrigued by the shu mai rice rolls and they turned out exactly like you would expect. Mini shu mai dumplings on top of plain mini rice rolls with a hoisin/peanut sauce. While the dumplings themselves weren't anything to write home about, the dish actually worked.

They did forget our spicy wontons order so we had to ask them about it. When it arrived, it didn't seem too spicy. Fortunately, they have spicy chili oil at the table that you can add to your dishes.

Ordered takeout from here and it is by far the worst Chinese food I have ever had in my life. Everything was extremely bland, nothing was fresh. I can't understand how or why this place is so busy, but please do yourself a favour and just don't. I didn't even bother taking pictures because it ended up in the trash bin so fast. What a waste of money. Influencers promoting this restaurant should be ashamed of themselves. Absolute garbage.

Was busy when we went. Service was a bit slow and they forgot to bring one of the dishes.

The rice rolls were amazing. Never had it this way where the toppings are on the side and the rice paper is separate.

The congee, curry and noodle we ordered were just ok.

Would def go back and prob stick to the rice rolls

Quality of food is good compared to months ago when they were just opening up.rice noodle and congee is good. The menu is limited and hopefully more itmes are added in future.

May Rice Roll is a very busy place that often will have a big line up to enter. Reservations are accepted but does not really guarantee a table when you arrive. Writing your name and number of guests on the piece of paper at the entrance door is your best bet of getting a table (even with a reservation).

They specialize in handmade rice rolls and freshly boiled congee. Be prepared to wait 15-20 minutes for your order. The wait will be worth it.

We had their Hong Kong style congee, Fresh Fish congee, Beef & Shrimp rice rolls, and the Chinese Donut rice rolls. The congees were very hot when served. Very fresh and nicely textured (those who know congee know what the "right" texture means). The ingredients in the congee were fresh but not abundant. I would have wanted a bit more stuff (maybe 4 sliced of fish instead of just 3).

The rice rolls were of the handmade and bunched together type - not the rolled ones often found at dim sum. The rice rolls had a nice texture with good chewiness and flavour. Our Beef and Shrimp came with only 4 small slices of tasty beef and 3 shrimps. A bit more filling would have been nice. Perhaps the chef really wanted the customers to enjoy the nice rice rolls? Our Chinese Donut rice roll was also very fresh, with the Chinese donuts showing a bit o crunchyness meaning they were re-fried. We didn't mind the crunchyness as it worked well with the chewy rice rolls. This Chinese Donut rice roll was served with a side dish of tasty peanut sauce and hoisin sauce - very well flavoured to work with the rice rolls. Both rice rolls were served with their housemade soya sauce from a teapot. Don't confuse this teapot to serve tea. The soya sauce is lighter and a bit sweeter than our regular cooking soya sauces.

If you don't mind the wait and don't have a high expectation of service or comfort, May Rice Roll & Congee is a good place to try out what authentic rice rolls from the heart of Hong Kong or Guangzhou tastes like and the eating experience of those street side shops.

Came here for brunch and it was an okay experience. The rice rolls and congee were good, but portion wasn’t abundant for the price. Service was what you would expect from a Chinese restaurant: curt. But here there was a dose of dishonesty after I ordered a hot milk tea and requested a couple of sugar packs. The server rudely insisted that there was sugar in there already. The manager overheard and came by with the sugars and corrected the server. Baffling thing to try to save money over. All in all, I wouldn’t be in a rush to return.

Hole in the wall congee and rice roll restaurant. Rice rolls are piping hot! Congee is pretty good too. Also serving fried rice and snack dishes but come here for rice rolls and congee.

There's MSG in the congee. The rice rolls were ok but not as smooth as some other restaurants. We went later in the day, and the deep-fried donut wasn't as crispy as I had hoped. Compared to dimsum, the rice rolls were pricier but the congee was a good deal. Both were around $9-11 each.

The congee is very fresh and the rice rolls are good. Servers are attentive and friendly. They surprisingly had high chairs which is a plus!

Loved it and will return after the grand opening tomorrow. Rice rolls are made fresh when order. The owner was super friendly and gave us suggestions to what we should try and explained to us how the rice rolls are made. The beef fried rice noodles are cooked perfectly and not oily. Can't wait to go back.

I ordered the breakfast combo: scallop and shrimp rice roll along with the preserved egg and pork congee. Congee was good and flavourful (I’m guessing they read the reviews from others about the blandness and changed their recipe). The pork was super soft in the congee. The rice roll is definitely something I would recommend and would go back for.

Got takeout here, portions were just okay in size. Both congee and the rice rolls were bland tasting. They skimped on the good stuff, we got century egg congee but it had no century egg in it, we did not bother going back to complain, there were only a 2 pieces of shrimp (although decent sized and fresh) put on the side for the 2 rice rolls.
The quality of the food was pretty good, fresh ingredients, crispy well fried Chinese donut (but you can't mess that up).
We were really eager to try this place since there aren't much congee rice places around this area where we live, we might give it another shot down the road, but we were a little disappointed.
Friendly staff and pretty clean interior, restaurant is on the smaller side, and being on hastings means there are plenty of street parking and dedicated free parking lots around the corner.

Sliced fish congee is my favorite and it was satisfying but I missed the peanuts! Still gotta try more of their menu. Didn't disappoint for a traditional Chinese breakfast

I never write reviews but I have to on this place. The rice rolls were nice soft and flavor was ok. The portion sizes to what you pay for doesn't match IMO. So for that I won't be coming back unless they make some changes in price. For 4 people in we spent $71

You could tell it's a new restaurant as a number of things are still being worked out: service is slow (over 30 min wait to just get our milk tea), most staff seem new (got one of our orders wrong, brought another table's dish to our table, and sometimes seemed disoriented), and the photocopied menus are hard to read. That said, the owner lady is very nice and the Chinese doughnut rice rolls are the bomb. With some tweaks it has potential to be a go-to.
