Food was mediocre, very expensive tapas. Sorry 120.00 for 3 people with only 2 alcoholic bevvies is poor value and I left hungry. However, our server was terrific.

Added as a must visit for Mexican food. The tacos, Maya Notre cocktail and key lime pie were fantastic

The staff are wonderful, the atmosphere great. The food is just okay, & the portions tiny for the price.
The chorizo corn cheese fritter was laughable. The chiorizo was literally just a couple specks. The calamari was greasy, the empanadas forgettable. They all came with the exact same dipping aoli.
Basically, you pay full dinner price for each small tapa, & the quality just isn't worth it.

Cosy indoor space and expansive cute backyard patio. Their Habanero Wings are so so yummy. I drive 40 minutes from Shawnigan to enjoy a lovely date night at Maya Norte!

Cute restaurant with international atmosphere. Sort of an American way of fusing Mexican and Spanish food. Generally typical Spanish tapas (small portions) with a Mexican flavor with some American touch. Great Jalapeno Margaritas and the normal ones as well. It’s a surprisingly unique place in a small town like Ladysmith.
The ribs were the highlight of the meal. Soft meat, falling from the bones, crispy on the outside with a sweet sour sauce.

Wow.just wow. Incredible meal here tonight. An absolute gem in sleepy Ladysmith! The Mexican/Spanish fusion menu is like a greatest hits collection. We struggled to choose as everything sounded amazing. Every dish was fantastic.
The Tequila selection is impressive.this is where you bring your friends that don't like Tequila.show them the good stuff and they will finally get it!
Our server, Marisol, was so helpful and delivered a wonderful experience.
This one will be a regular stop! Don't miss it!

We wish that we had a Maya Norte where we live, we’d definitely be regulars. We arrived on a Saturday night without a reservation and were asked to wait 30min for a table. No problem, we were happy to check out the night market down the street. We returned to a beautiful patio table amidst twinkly lights, wonderful service and incredible tapas. Everything we had was amazing, the calamari, salad and baja snapper tacos (and a very tasty margarita!). A perfect dinner for our last night on the island. What a gem!

Great patio to enjoy a sunny day, restaurant staff were good. Food we had was boring and overpriced!
We shared snapper tacos, enchiladas and Mexican rice.
The snapper was not seasoned and the batter was under cooked.
The enchiladas looked great but lacked flavor.
The rice was good but come on 1 heaping tablespoon for 4 dollars is ridiculous!
PS If you offer a glass with a cold beer bring a cold glass!

Food we ordered was okay, but lacked the complexity of either Mexican or Spanish cuisine. We had habanero chicken wings, mole pork enchiladas, and shrimp tacos. Along with a beer and a virgin Margarita and chips and salsa bill was $77. Their guac may have been more impressive than their salsas, but I will probably never know. Plates were small, but we were more or less full when we left.
The patio is lovely in summer, and the main area is kind of cute and homey. Bathrooms are clean and spacious.
Staff is welcoming and attentive to just the right degree.
It's not a place we're in a rush to return to, but it's okay for a night out if you're not looking for elevated cooking.

Amazing good but tapas portions we especially small. $4 for a bowl of rice the equivalent of a heaping table spoon. Quality was outstanding but 4 of us paid over $200 for dinner and left hungry.

This place is iconic! The food, the atmosphere the service. I will be adding this special spot into my Airbnb guest books. Thanks so much for all your hard work and passion that goes into delivering such quality. It’s so appreciated and beautiful.

Great atmosphere, staff and food. Live music was a special treat, especially since it lent to the venue and didn't dominate (you could still talk to each other). They need to bottle that hot sauce so it can be shared!

First, great atmosphere. They have a backyard patio that is mostly insulated from the road noise, inside dining is simple and well put together. Staff was friendly if green.
Granted I only had Bravas, but that is my go-to when trying out a tapas place. It is ubiquitous in Spain and comes in a million varieties from fries to fingerling Hasselback potatoes.
Maya Norte's are the standard home fry cut, seasoned, fried, then seasoned again served with a bravas sauce in a bowl and a garlic aioli which is perfectly fine.
However, like any just about every tapas place outside of Spain, the point of tapas is missed here: unless the tapas are quite high end, they are just snacks to enjoy while drinking. At $12 for homefries and $8 for beer, enjoying tapas in Canada feels more like dining that hanging out. With tax and tip, this combo comes to $25. In much of Spain, simple tapas like warmed olives are free with a drink. A bravas tapa would be $4, as would the beer. They don't tip in Spain.
So, in short, this is a perfectly fine place, and certainly nicer than many restaurants that I have experienced in my short time on the island, but ultimately I don't think it is possible to have a tapas experience in Canada given the food and operating costs, and outrageous tax on alcohol.

Food was good, nothing special. Prices are high for very small portions. It is a tapas place but I’d expect more memorable food or better portions for the price point. Back patio is excellent and great service.

Such a great place to try all sorts of great food! Decor in and out of the restaurant is amazing. Best patio in Ladysmith in my opinion.

I am so glad that I went here. This is a fantastic restraunt with an authentic feel. I had a mezcal flight and enjoyed every sip. Every course they took out was delicious and the timing was impeccable. Just when I was finished with one thing it seemed the next tapas came out of the kitchen. The food always arrived hot. This place is worth it to go and explore.
