Lovely little place with delicious food and good customer service.
Their Pho soup is spot on.

The noodle soup is light, with not much of meat. Vaniichilli was great taste. But unfortunately end with sad note when service kind of throws the change trays when realizing that we are paying cash.

I’ve wanted to try egg coffee for years, so when I saw that they serve it here, I jumped at the chance. My parents are obsessed with coffee and eggs, we used to be egg farmers, so I took them with me to try it. It was better than I was expecting! It’s decadent and sweet, a perfect mix of the strongest coffee in the world and lovely whipped egg deliciousness. A bit like coffee liqueur in egg nog, but better.

Found a piece of tripe in my vegetarian Bun. It was a massive portion but I was immediately put off and the rest went to waste. Very disappointing you can’t trust what you’re getting is actually vegetarian. Some vegetarians may have become quite I’ll if they’d not seen that and accidentally eaten it.

I really like this restaurant but it is frustrating and a little weird that they don't keep condiments on the table.that is the reason for 3 stars for service.the people working do provide very good service.

Lemongrass chicken banh mi is amazing. Server recommended beef stew which was perfect even on a hot summer day. Everything was excellent.

I had read many reviews of this restaurant before actually getting the chance to experience this cozy little restaurant myself.

The food is good and the portion sizes are generous, depending on what you're ordering.

I ordered the Large House Special Pho and the spring rolls. I usually have a big appetite, and this place put me in a satisfied state.

I'll be back if I'm ever in the area, as I'm curious as to what specialty menu items I can order that others places don't carry. For instance I noticed they have a egg foam Vietnamese coffee, I've never even seen this at other Vietnamese restaurants; so I'm eager to go back and try this.

Anyways, the experience was pleasant and the service was good. I'll definitely be back.

Finally found a cafe that makes an authentic egg coffee! Banh mi was also great - bread was super crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Friendly staff, and down to earth atmosphere, but frankly their signature pho is pretty much at par with just other peers around in the area. The broth is so so only.

Delicious food! Ordered beef curry, chicken wings (a crispy surface and tender inside), bread (so soft), and pork vermicelli bowl-noodles (good presentation w/pork pieces and fried roll and vegi!)

The space is a little small (a bar at the window side and two big tables for 6 and three regular tables for 4), BUT it’s definitely worth it to wait if it’s full/line-up.

I ordered the Phở Chay but I unexpectedly was given the Bun Chay. Albeit not what I was expecting at all, this tasted flawless. Fresh, zesty, aromatic and light with some dope sidekick peanut sauce made this a knockout meal! I wolfed down every last bite and didn't hesitate, this was an all round great dining experience and I really dig this joint its super quaint, great aesthetics and has a real comfy and homey vibe with solid veggie options. I'm glad I took the servers recommendation of one Gỏi cuốn (Vietnamese Fresh Shrimp Salad Roll), although this was also super yummy, heavenly stuffed and to die for with a peanut satay that I dream of, it was the perfect amount for a very plentiful portion fit for a king.
Next time I'll order the Phở Chay and hope that arrives so I can taste it haha. Regardless, staff are great and very friendly.

Great food at this little Vietnamese restaurant. We dove right into our food and forgot to take pics We had spring rolls which were the best we've ever had so far. The pho broth has a very clean taste to it. The beef stew was super tasty. Chicken wings were very crispy and finger licking good. After our meal, the owner/ chef (who was the chef at Au Petit Cafe) came out to chat with us. It made the experience that much more special for our first time here. We'll be back for sure.

Loved the decor and theme of the restaurant. The food was really good and the presentation of the food was also outstanding. Friendly staff. Great place overall!

Most authentic mom and pop shop on commercial drive. Got the bun cha ca and beef noodle soups. The spring rolls are a MUST TRY! Chicken wings remind me of Phnom Penh but bigger in order size and cheaper. Interior gives me a homey and rustic vibe which is unique in its own way in Little Italy commercial drive. Will definitely come back with my friends to rave about this soupy goodness of a place

Small Vietnamese restaurant on commercial drive. Fresh and delicious food. Convenient location. Reasonable price. Well divided seating for covid prevention. Will be back to try their famous Viet-French sandwiches.

They have sandwiches for 7.00 that are sooooo good.
I love this cute, romantic little place. The staff is friendly and the food is excellent.

Happy to see that Au Petit Cafe lives on through this avenue as Merci Beaucoup Cafe.

Been twice for lunch and have shared:
- Banh mi ($1.50) - fresh and crispy
- Pho ga nuong sa ($16.00) - broth reminded me of a wonton soup but a sweeter and with some star anise notes.
- Pho ca ri bo ($15.00) - beef was the star. Good depth and body to the broth.
- Pho bo kho ($15.00) - broth was flavourful but a touch sweet. Noodles clumped up slightly. Beef and chunks of carrot were delicious.
- Bun cha ca ($15.00) - broth was light and clean. Wish it was more dilly and substantial.

MBC is a nice addition to the ‘hood.

Saw another review comparing Merci Beaucoup to Au Petite. I'm a fan of the latter but I think the prices are reasonable given the inflation and rising costs.

Food tastes fresh and clean. Beef curry and beef stew comes with plenty of meat though the sauce is a bit too sweet.

Delicious Vietnamese food in a cozy cafe setting. Vietnamese coffees were not too sweet, strong in flavour and left a lasting taste on the tongue. Banh Mis had soft, fresh bread with good meat and veggies. Chicken wings were crispy and came with a delicious sauce.

Absolutely fantastic Banh Mi! We went for the meatball, and veggie options. We loved the customer service as they took time to go over the menu with us and explain the ingredients in detail! Super fresh bread and ingredients! Will be back!

This is my favorite place for banh mi, Vietnamese sandwiches. Try out the shredded chicken sandwich, highly recommended; crusty bun, flavorful sauce, and juicy chicken meat, which tastes perfect. Their salad rolls and vermicelli bowl noodles are good too; the vegetables and herb used are so fresh. Friendly staff and I really enjoyed the good services.

Disappointed. Called ahead at lunch time and made an order for Pho and spring rolls. Walked in at the time they stated and still had to wait over 20 mins. Portion size was small, beef was really fatty and chewy. Over priced food, very mediocre.

One of my regular spots on The Drive. Their banh mi sandwiches are always very fresh tasting, and their pho is delicious. Staff are incredibly friendly, really nice family-owned restaurant vibe. Great to see a good Vietnamese restaurant in the neighbourhood.

We had the beef pho and a banh mi. I found the place to be very family oriented, clean and small. It is a simple place to get delicious Vietnamese cuisine and I would recommend this place to anyone visiting the commercial drive area. Very friendly staff and good vibes, this place deserves more traction.

This is the best Pho I've had North of Kingsway, East of Main. Fantastic broth. Finally, a legit Pho option on the Drive. (Apologies to that other one aligned with a departed famous Chef). But Merci Beaucoup has you beat. You will pay a Commercial Drive surcharge, but that's to be expected thanks to lease prices on the Drive.

Dined at Au Petit Cafe for 20+years. I am glad to find my favour house special banh mi again. A bit disappointed on the meatballs, they tasted dry and not very juicy. Before the meatballs were more fatty. Will come back again to try other dishes.

Food is a solid 100/10! There's so much love and heart put into these dishes and I am excited to come back again to try new things! Everything my friends and I had were delicious. This is definitely one of my new favorite places, and the employees were SO kind and loving. It's an all-around amazing restaurant that reminds me of my Vietnamese culture and I would recommend this place to anyone who's looking for delicious and reasonably priced food!

The Bo Kho is one of the best I've had, the meat is so tender and flavourful. The bread/banh mi absolutely delicious, Just the right amount of outer crispness with soft fluffy insides. (sorry not good at describing food LOL)
The staff are also very welcoming and attentive.

This review is long overdue, as Merci Beaucoup has quickly become my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Vancouver.

The Pho is excellent. Broth is slightly sweet as it should be, and hot sauce/hoisin are provided along with the usual add-ons. All the options are present including lemon grass chicken.

The spring rolls come four to an order with excellent crunch. A large portion relative to other spots and worth the extra price.

I have however saved the best for last. MB makes a phenomenal yet simple Bahn Mi with authentic french rolls and traditional fillings. And the value simply cannot be beat. I would go as far as to say that the Bahn Mi at MB is the best value (quality + quantity ÷ price) I am aware of in the entire city.

Also, it's not considered impolite to pick up your bowl and drink the broth. I asked ;)

The House Special banh mi and the beef stew are a must. Amazing food and impeccable customer service from the staff.

Consistently great food, paired with reasonable prices and genuinely kind staff who make the experience that much better!

This is our new go to spot when we decide to eat out or get take out and not sure where to go. We always know we will leave Merci Beaucoup satisfied.

Also, it’s polite to drink the end of the broth from the bowl. Trust me, you’ll want to do it!

Great Banh Mi and other Vietnamese dishes brought to you by some of the people from the much loved and now defunkt Au Petite Saigon restaurant formerly on Main St at East 33rd Ave. The absolute best Viet subs in Vancouver.

Hands down the best bahn mi I have ever had. The beef noodle stew was also absolutely mind blowing. Such unbelievable flavour and the meat was so tender. The staff and service were amazing, so efficient and attentive.

For anyone wanting a great vietnamese spot, I would highly recommend merci beaucoup!

I was so excited to try this restaurant, especially after hearing/reading all of the hype that it's so similar to Au Petit Cafe. Sadly, I was disappointed. I wanted so much to be able to find a restaurant to fill the Au Petit void, but Merci Beaucoup just didn't quite deliver. I ordered 3 banh mi - House Special, Meatball, and Veggie. While their meatballs (xiu mai) were very similar to Au Petit, and very tasty, that's the only thing that would have me coming back. The House Special banh mi was OK, and the Veggie banh mi was not good. It was flavourless, soggy, and they forgot my Jalapeños.

Overall, my experience was just average.

Merci Beaucoup? More like Merci Bo Kho! One of the best I’ve had, I couldn’t stop eating it. Get #9 and you won’t be disappointed.

The shredded chicken banh mi is incredible. Even when we get takeout, everything is great. Staff are friendly and the food is fantastic!

We went while they are still soft launching and are only accepting walk-in takeout orders. We had a large beef pho, lemongrass chicken soup, and house special banh mi. They were good! I specifically want to bring up how beefy their beef broth is. Lemongrass chicken has no "off" flavour, if thats a good way to put it, soft and flavourful. Banh mi was juicy and the bread was soft, but i wish there were a bit more pickled veggies inside.

A few have commented how long the wait for food is, and because they only accept walk ins right now, you cant call ahead to reserve. Our wait from ordering was 45 minutes. Given at time of writing this review, we are still in a pandemic, means that you will have to wait outside, or in the car until they call you to pickup your food. I think its well worth it, and that it will probably get better once they figure out their operations in the months to come. Maybe have a scoop of gelato next door while you wait?

Saw this restaurant on Daily Hive and was excited to try it out. Staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious. I had the chicken banh mi and would definitely recommend if you’re in the area.

Saw the daily hive article about this place and decided to give it a try. Did not anticipate the wait given that they just opened but i guess there was strong loyalty at the old location. Noticed lots of older folks ordering high volumes of the sandwiches to-go so beware if you are just planning to be in and out, this place seems like they go through crazy rushes. Could be an issue with the karens in the reviews but I would recommend walking around the drive bc the store can get quite small.

Overall really great place with good food. I got the beef stew and a house special banh mi. Local and nice atmosphere. Seems like it will be the drive's new quintessential viet place. Happy to support local and look forward to stopping by after work.

Updated: Went back to try a few more dishes so updating my review and adding photos. The meatball dip was my favourite! We also had the beef noodle stew and chicken wings - both very good.

Original post: I had never been to Au Petit Cafe but heard great things. I was excited to try Merci Beaucoup Cafe knowing it’s the same chef from Au Petit. The house special banh mi and meat banh mi were both delicious. My favourite is the house special - the meatballs are amazing. There is a wait but staff were friendly. The food tastes homemade in the best way. Will be coming back!

This family owned and operated restaurant offers amazing food and exceptional service - the beef stew and banh mi is a must try! My fiancee and I were heartbroken when the famous Au Petite Cafe closed down but our prayers have been answered to know that the chefs opened up Merci Beaucoup to continue serving nostalgic flavours that we grew up loving.

I used to frequent Au Petit for their delicious banh mis and beef stew. When I found out that the previous chefs opened up Merci Beaucoup on The Drive, I was both curious and excited to see whether the integrity of their signature dishes remained the same. If you're ever feeling nostalgic for Au Petit, you won't be disappointed.

I called in to order food for pickup because I wasn’t sure how busy they would be. Super cute little place. People at the counter were very nice and polite. Both wearing masks. Looks like a family owned business. Really good vibes and speedy service! I will come back to try out another dish.

The cafe has a really nice cozy vibe and the staff is great! Totally recommend the house special banh mi and signature pho.

After trying banh mi for the first time in Vietnam, I’m finally glad I found a place where the food tastes authentic! Delicious food with great color and texture; had a great experience. Definitely one of my go to’s!

Au petit cuisine is back! Thank you Linda for opening the restaurant, I was so sad that the original one closed down. You make the best beef stew in the world and I am so happy that I can taste this goodness of food again. No other restaurant comes even close. I will be back again many many times.

Stellar food! Heard that today was their second day of opening and the line went to the end of the street. Waited two hours and if that isn't a testament to how worth it the food is I don't know what is. Was like eating a childhood meal again:)

Heard great things about the banh mi, so grabbed the house special to go. Brief interaction with the team was very friendly and the sandwich is definitely quality. Cilantro was super fresh, very happy about that. Will definitely be back soon.

We came at 1pm on Sunday and there was a short line up with one couple in front of us. Seating was very limited inside, maybe two tables and the service was extremely slow. We waited an hour and a half and still haven't been seated. We finally decided to get the food to go and the server said it'll be 10 minutes but it took an additional 20 minutes. Order take out or don't even bother, just a waste of time. There are many better Vietnamese restaurants with better services out there. There were four people working but they just couldn't keep up, even though there were no UberEats or DoorDash.

Food was amazing, staff was super nice and prompt and had a covid friendly environment. Highly recommend.

I'm a big fan of the saucy pulled chicken banh mi from Au Petit Cafe. This copycat slightly misses the mark. The bread is spot on but the chicken is dry and barely saucy. The original was juicy and had sauce literally dripping from the sandwich. Maybe it was just a busy day though so I'll likely try again and update this review if necessary.

I was really excited to get the banh mi at this newly opened spot! We knew there would be a wait but staff were friendly and you can see they are working very hard. Decor inside was cute with a rustic French atmosphere.

We tried the shredded chicken and tofu banh mi, both were amazing! Ratio of filling to bread was would love to return to get their egg coffee!

A quaint, modern and delicious take on Vietnamese food. I came on a Friday right before 3PM and they were fairly busy, but our order came up quickly. We ordered the house special banh mi and lemongrass chicken banh mi. Worth trying both. Going to come back again to try their soup.
