Parking is brutal at the Burnaby location. Very busy and tight spots. It’s $5 an hour if you use the app, but $4 if you go to the pay station and use your card. Monarch Dental will reimburse you (I was there for 2 years before I found out) but only up to $4. I would avoid this dental centre if you plan on driving here; the parking is that awful.

Originally came in 2 years ago because my dentist said I was ready for braces. The orthodontist claimed that he wouldn’t put them on even if we “threw money at him”. Saying that we needed to come back in a year (my teeth didn’t change at all within the year) to make sure he didn’t lose a potential client. Since I’ve gotten the braces on, after every single appointment there are wires poking out up to at least half a centimetre and when I brought this up with the main orthodontist he said that I should be more grateful because “not all kids can afford braces” and that I’m “really lucky to even have them”. He also told me to use sugar free gum if I didn’t have wax? ! I’ve had my braces for a year now and after every single appointment there’s wires poking my cheeks that are now permanently scared. I shouldn’t have to come in every single time to get them re cut and my appointments are usually up to 2 months apart with barely any changes to my teeth in between appointments (especially the recent ones). They’ve been claiming to be “closing the gaps” for 4 sessions now. The hygienists are very nice but the orthodontist gets up in your face and talks over you if you try to say anything. I am very frustrated with my experiences and am constantly in pain. I’m unable to always put the wax on as is comes off when you eat.

Don't trust this place! They try to get as much money as possible from your kids. They seem to try and delete negative feedbacks, too so don't trust the rating you see, it's probably much lower.
My daughter had some light cavities and the doctor (John) asked to take Xray, although the previous dentist said Xray is not needed and that those cavities of my daughter are nothing serious, just need to check with a pediatric dentist to be sure. We asked Dr. John which layers are those cavities in (because cavities in the first layer of teeth are self-healable by taking better hygiene care of the teeth), and he said - HASN'T EVEN DONE THE XRAY BY THEN - that all of them are in the second layers (?). Then once the xray is done, he showed it to us so quick we don't even understand anything, and just try to force us on accepting a very long course of treatment - 5 appointments with anesthesia injection and one silver cap (doesn't even explain why a silver cap is needed).
No, thank you. We will never bring our daughter here again.

I can't say enough about Dr Peter Chan and the dental hygiene staff at Monarch Pediatric Dental. My child is prone to cavities and has needed fillings over the years. He is, like myself, difficult to freeze and gets anxious with the process. Dr Peter has been so patient and understanding through each treatment, giving the extra time, encouragement and emotional space to help my child have a positive experience. He is meticulous in his work, and takes the time to explain and educate throughout so that we can feel calm and secure. If you have a child who needs a positive dental experience with a Dr who has exceptional skill, look no further.

I originally wrote this review in 2013 - and only recently noticed it was no longer present! It was here for years - and now its gone. I contacted Google, and this would be done on the request of the business. For shame, Monarch Pediatric Dental - bad enough you were responsible for my negative experience (with no followup), but you actually take the time to request deletion of my valid, honest, polite and factual review of my personal experience (and - how many others?). And PS, the other pediatric dental centre said the additional 2 cavities identified at Monarch did not need any treatment as they were insignificant. They never caused my daughter any issue.

Here was my review which is now gone:
I was referred to Monarch Dental in Burnaby by my family dentist, as my daughter is needle phobic and she needed cavities filled. I went for our initial consultation and I refuse to go back. I received the first appointment of the day, and even then I only was able to see the dentist 25 minutes after my scheduled appointment (even though I had arrived 15 minutes early as requested - which turned out to be before the staff even arrived at work! So we waited for 40 minutes for the first appointment of the day). The dentist consultation was fine (they did another xray and found 2 more cavities), but when I discussed booking treatment with the front desk I was informed that the options were nitrous oxide, which they only offered in Port Moody or Surrey, in two seperate visits (very far to travel and would cause me to miss a lot of work) and that getting me a quote for general anesthetic which they did offer in the Burnaby office "wasn't my department", and besides it would take six weeks to get quote info back from Blue Cross! Full stop. She didn't actually provide me further means to get the quote, or tell me who to get it from. I had enough at this point left rather both annoyed and deflated with a child who was no closer to getting her cavities fixed, and a good few hours of my day more or less wasted.

I will be going to a different pediatric dental centre, as I really have no desire to go back to that office and try to deal with their chaotic and unhelpful staff. One visit was more than enough!

Terrible dental group that focuses purely on profit rather than servicing their patients in a safe and effective way. They do not treat patients like humans, but rather as a number. Please stay far, far away from this dental group.

Daughter usually comes here every year for cleaning and up until today she says her mouth has cuts in it, a little disappointed but will come again regardless.

Dr. Mark did an excellent job with my granddaughter's surgery and made her feel very comfortable going into the procedure. Thank you, Monarch Burnaby!

Thank you, Dr. Mark of Monarch for taking great care of our little one. He made us feel very comfortable during my daughters procedure, which we were quite nervous about going into that day. I would highly recommend Dr. Mark! Also, Christine of the General Anaesthetic Department was super accommodating, friendly and helpful leading up to my daughter dental surgery. Thank you Dr. Mark & Christine!

We brought my newborn son here because he was tongue-tied. Dr. Mark and his team were extremely caring and knowledgeable about the procedure and made us feel at ease through the process. Dr. Mark is a patient centered practitioner and would highly recommend him to anyone. Our 3 week old son was made to feel relaxed, cared for, and Dr. Mark always had his best interests at heart.

Good with kids but horrible with price. Had a full mouth checkup done on my son which unfortunately revealed extensive work that needed to be done. I didn't have the budget to have everything done regardless of the payment plan they offered. This dental centre is horrible when it comes to negotiating work that has to be done and refuses to do partial work now, and partial work later. Either everything has to be done at once or nothing. So my husband and I got a quote for the work that was required and decided to go through with it based on the agreed upon price. After the dental work, we got hit with an additional $500 stating it was more work than anticipated. What's the point of getting a quote if they won't stick to it? This place bullies people into getting work done and makes you feel like a bad parent if you can't afford it.

It was great experience with Dr. Mark Casafrancisco. It was a like a migic hands according to my son Miggy. He didn’t feel any pain at all during the treatment. Absolutely amazing experience today! And also, the dental assistant is super nice. Well done
