New York Style Pizza & Pasta (Downtown)

Always shocked at the low reviews on here because we absolutely love it here! The food is always great and the staff lovely. The manhattan salad is a favorite and despite the other complaints on here, we all love the pizza crust!

Jodi was great. Food was very good but not very hot and had to wait for some food. The disappointment was the manager who approached Jodi during the dinner rush to reprimand her. In front of all customers. Very distasteful. She could of waited or at least take her to another room.

Lasagna was on the bland and watery side but the meat was tender and cheese was tasty the garlic bread was awesome

We've patronized NYP for years and have never been disappointed. Lately we have especially enjoyed the House Salad. At times, either my wife or I have made a dinner of it. It is unusual and absolutely delicious. We would recommend it unreservedly, as we would most of the offerings. However, we've not had the pizzas, so can say nothing there.

The food is so good here i would walk all the way to the other side of the continent of north america and back just to have a bite of there pasta

Awesome food and service! Went for dinner with my brother and parents and the atmosphere was great! Place seemed clean, our waitress was super friendly. We got seated by the window and I will say the table was a bit rickety. I was scared the food might slide down, but it all turned out fine. Otherwise the place was clean and had an overall great vibe (I looked for hair on the heaters after seeing that one review and couldn’t find any).
I’m vegetarian, and they had really well-marked options. Ended up ordering one of the pizzas but it took me a while to decide, which is rare to come by in restaurants that don’t prioritize vegetarian/vegan options, so that was a nice surprise.
When my pizza came, it was a lot bigger than I expected (not complaining). Lots of toppings, stacked pretty high too. Tasted really good, though. My parents shared the pasta and both really liked it.
Overall love the entire atmosphere and vibe of the place, we’re planning to go again sometime soon.

I think their pizza is great! I liked the Empire and Soho pizzas the most. Quick delivery times too!

Ordered the Wall Street pizza and Nachos for a picnic by the water. Both were excellent. The pizza had a crispy pan-style crust and was loaded. The nachos were layered and baked.

Great drink and dinner. Had the chipotle pasta and it was great but very spicy. Definitely recommended.

I ordered the beef and tomato pizza, my kid had the lasagne, neither of us enjoyed our meal. I'm guessing they par bake their crust and then do a fast bake for the finished product. My toppings were refrigerator cold under hot cheese. My kid said her lasagne was bland and boring. It was a lot of money to fork out for something so sub par. With Pizza and Pasta in the title of the restaurant, I would expect you to be good at serving this kind of product. Most likely won't be back. The service was good and friendly so the evening wasn't a total loss. I'd rethink the par baked crusts, proper pizza can be made from raw dough, I can do better at home in under 40 minutes.

Excellent service and absolutely amazing pizza. The Big Apple was utterly too die and will be back again. Would very well recommend

Really Great Gluten-Free Pizza! They did not skip on the toppings, lovely thin crust and they got the order right. I paid extra for delivery and the extra cheese on the pizza was almost $8 more. They called ahead to let us know the machines were down before delivering and brought us a GF tiramisu free of charge for the inconvenience.

This place is incredible and what elevated this dining experience was the impeccable service from Jody! She’s a queen! Five stars!

Waitress is abusive to the delivery drivers that helps this business get food to customers in their home. Third time is not a charm.

Went to NY style 2 days ago. As soon as we walked in Jolene greated us. We ordered a medium special pizza to split which was outstanding. We also ordered a ceasar for our drinks and I have to say it was the best Ceasar we both have tasted. Being a bartender for over 35 years, we learned to compliment. Jolene as the best Caesar we have tasted in a long time. We'll definitely go back. So I not only give the pizza a 5 star.but when you go.have a Ceasar cause Jolene knows how to rock it.

I really like the Manhattan Salad with shrimp. I order a large with all the ingredients packaged separately and sometimes a side of bacon. It's fresh, satisfying and delivery is quick.

Paid extra for chicken breast only gold 3 small slices. For the amount of my meal I could almost feed my family for a week. Very expensive for a family of 6 to eat out but do have a certain expectation when paying for a meal and being disappointed. It was cold but that was because of skip driver but the face you charge extra for chicken and got less then 100 grams is pathetic. First time and last time customer. Sorry

Great service, great pizza, what's not to like. Took grandsons for pizza and 2 boys 5 and 6 yrs of age polished off a medium to themselves! Always enjoy our meal when we go.

My favourite pizza place! I have since moved away from Nanaimo but I still come here every time I’m in town.

The pizza feels like an actual healthy meal rather than greasy junk food. The toppings are generous, fresh, and delicious. There’s so much toppings, you have to either eat with a fork or like a burger (with your fingers on top to hold the toppings in).

There’s definitely more toppings than cheese. If you want something that’s basically cheese on bread with a bit of other stuff thrown in for flavour, this is probably not the place for you.

My favorite restaurant in town for decades, and I keep coming back. Get the Big Apple (with no onions), you won't be disappointed!

Ordered the Queens pizza. The pizza was bland. The ground beef had zero seasoning, the sauce was nearly non-exsistant. It was covered in massive chunks of tomatos which further watered down the flavor. A little salt and garlic would go a LONG way.

It was however made quickly and came hot. The crust was nice and crispy, and had a generous amount of cheese and toppings. The chef/cook just needs to not be shy with the seasonings. It honestly wouldn't take much change to be the best pizza in Nanaimo.

I ordered a 14inch pizza and asked for extra sauce and when I got it it barely had any sauce on it but other then that not too bad really dry though.

We tried New York Pizza for the first time. It was love at first bite! Our family of 3 shared the Big Apple & Tropicana. Both were delicious. The Big Apple was probably 2 inches thick loaded with our favourite toppings on a deliciously crispy base. We ordered 2 14 inch pizzas & had enough leftovers for another dinner for 3 & lunch for 1.

Not what I expected. Crust was very disappointing. Toppings were not very tasty. Very over priced.

Not good. Over cooked. Not tasty at all. Had several soggy spots in the crust like it was sitting in water spots. Tried once not again.

Hello, I hope the owners of this place are reading this! I Loved the food but I have a concern (please don't hate me). I am just concerned about the packaging as it is not environmentally friendly. I don't think I need to go into details about why styrofoam and plastic packaging is harmful to the planet but I just wanted to say as soon as you guys get environmentally friendly packaging I will 100 percent be ordering from you again! Until then I will have to pass sadly.

By far the best pizza I've ever had. And honestly. It's the same price as pizza chains and much better tasting

Quiet, cozy, attentive staff, cute booth dividers.the fettuccine Alfredo was perfect; the chicken was tender and moist, the pasta and sauce was creamy and delicious. I will go back!

Uh, do you mind me asking the question: what is so New York Style about this place? The tablecloths? It certainly isn't the pizza. It would be more appropriately called Chicago Style Pizza, because the pie is doughy and thick.the complete opposite of a NYC pie! Maybe the new owners bought it from someone who named it after New York because that sounds cool on Vancouver Island. Who knows!

Perfect meal after being off the Island for over a year. Great pizza and Manhattan Salad. If you can remember to get your own bottle of salad dressing it’s worth asking for.

Flawless tasty pizza, surprisingly good pricing. Bubble tea is a fabulous demostration of Asian flavor. It's a must-try eatery around steps away from Nanaimo downtown core.

So bad. A frozen pizza from the grocery store would have been a better option. Really people, stay away

I should of just order McDonald’s instead, worse place in downtown Nanaimo to go to. Nothing they make is fresh, I don’t recommend this place to anyone please look somewhere else.

NOT NEW YORK PIZZA! Not from this decade or any decade. This was horrible! I would choose literally any place at random from the phone book as long as it is not this place. They put the sandwich slice pepperoni under the cheese. The crust is a cheap, sweat, sponge like crust. If this sounds good to you, then this is your place.

Not recommended. Ordered two pizzas from here tonight and they cost us $76.50 plus delivery tip. I don't think they make their own crusts as the toppings were practically falling off, and there was little to no flavor. Felt like a premade purchased flat bread with toppings, Definitely not a New York style pizza. I can not recommend this place at all l. I expected it to exceed any rapid fire pizza joint but was severely let down. Our whole Family was not impressed and more ended up in Compost than eaten. Very disappointed.

Reasonably priced, tasty Italian food. I was away for 4 years. I was afraid the new owners would have lost the high quality and freshly made character if the food but it has been excellent both times I have been there.

We didn’t like anything we ate there. But the atmosphere was really good. There was a pianist and the kids got a toy to choose at the end

Well I don't know in my opinion and I see in every movie or TV show that I watch New York style pizza is really big soda flat where you can fold together and eat it I don't know mine was not even warm wasn't even hot it was like cold looks like Superstore stuff and the fries tasted like they were deep fried in like a halibut which is weird because it is a pizza place but I never looked in the menu in depths to see if they did do fish there I don't know I thought New York style pizza would have been way better than that but who knows in my opinion it was not the greatest place should have went to somewhere else

Good bit fairly expensive for a pizza place. Good and fair prices if your looking for a place with entertainment.

Friendly staff, a dated atmosphere, that I like and a place that still offers live music (though not everyday) bring back the jazz guys from viu.

I don't know where they learned to make pizza, but I can assure you that it wasn't New York. This is about the farthest from New York style anything as you can get, despite the over the top NYC motif covering every square inch of the place. It's basically a knockoff East Side Marios, and every bit as awful in my opinion. Frankly, I feel that it is a complete insult to New Yorkers, their food, and the poor saps who happen to walk in the door thinking that this cheese on a cracker horsecrap is anything like the Italian food available in the Northeastern US.

Make some Prego and stay home. You'll be better off.
