This company is truly, a life saver. Navigating aging parents is complex, overwhelming and I had no idea where to start. Grateful that this exists.

Terrible company to deal with. They care more for a profit than to look after our vulnerable ones.

Vivian the person who answers the phone doesn’t follow through with what she says. Also expect to have long moments of dead silence before she responds to anything you say. Was really odd and annoying actually.

In July of 2022 I contacted Nurse Next Door Home Care Services about arranging a ride and aftercare for a friend who was having a surgery on July 28th
I wanted a nurse to pick my friend up at Surgical Center in a cab and stay with her til the following day at noon i was sent a care giver I also sent aftercare instructions
When caregiver picked up my friend she was instructed not to leave her alone and stay overnight
During the 40 minute trip my nauseous friend needing rest, the caregiver complained about her marital problems
When arrived at the Hotel they went upstairs to the room the caregiver excused herself to make a private phone call leaving my friend alone contrary to the Aftercare instructions and the Valley Surgery Center and was gone for approximately 1 hour
At 6: 05 my unsupervised heavily medicated friend was in bathroom panicking and trying to call on duty Doctor
When the caregiver arrived back at room at approximately 6: 15 pm my friend was in the bathroom crying and in a panic talking to the on call surgeon about the drains in her body
The caregiver was yelling calm down thru the door and was trying to read aftercare instructions I had earlier left in the room my friend told her she was incompetent and to leave her alone as she was trying to hear what the after hours Doctor was telling her, the caregiver left
I received several text messages, as I was at work the next night from my friend, the caregiver and the care designer there were no calls to my friends or room
My friend was left alone to deal with giving herself pain medication and emptying her surgical drains during the night she used an ice bucket to empty drains in and vomited even urinating in the bucket because she could not get to bathroom
Adding insult to injury the company blamed my friend for abusing and yelling at Caregiver
It does not matter, nurse or caregiver or friend she was left alone, which according to her Doctor is illegal
I would never recommend this company to anyone

The Owner was on the news, complaining about staffing shortages but they don’t hire Black People lol!
I applied three times, and they rejected my application even though I’m overqualified.

I have only had the Nurse next door for two weeks. I have met Maria, Courtney and Kristen. They are three fantastic nurses. They are prompt, courteous and very friendly. I can't say enough good things about these three ladies. They have been a very big help in setting up my machine every morning. Thank you ever so much for all you do.

We have been receiving service for my mom from Nurse Next Door and couldn’t be any happier. We have never felt any safer than now since we know she is in good hands. This team feels like family.

Jennifer is amazing! She is kind, patient and competent looking after my husband and he very much enjoys her friendly companionship. I appreciate her initiative and all the help that she provides. She is a huge positive in our life, at this very difficult time.

Nurse next door has very good caring care aids that have helped my mom’s transition to my place. You have to explain what is important for your loved one’s care first. John, Tina, and Gladys have been very kind and patient allowing mom to trust them. Thank you.

Funny enough, in a recorded conversation between the care designer, my insurance provider and myself, care designer from Nurse Next Door stated that their rigorous screening and training solely rely on the fact that they hire any warm human body with a heart beat with a graduate certificate. Laurel says and I quote, "we don't offer extended training since they have been trained in school and their certificate proves that been educated in order to contain the registered care aid certificate. ”

The organization’s website further claims that nurse next door provides “comprehensive training and an educational environment to provide long term retraining”. However, I have had countless experiences where I, being physically impaired as well as visually challenged, need to train the numerous new care givers who come in not knowing my routine, history, or medical needs. I personally do not mind giving them directions however, when the staff who nurse next door hires do not know how to use a lift safely, has a language barrier that makes it unsafe for them to follow instructions and routines, as well as the utter lack of common sense in the simplest tasks that needs no medical background of some sort, makes me wonder what kind of “rigorous hiring” is going on in the background.

Lastly, when you respectfully mention all of this concerns, safety issues and discrepancies of their staff qualifications on paper versus the reality of what is going on in real life to your loving care designer Laurel, who claims that “love is in the details”, it makes me wonder why the defensive reaction is instantaneous and why the client gets blamed that there is a “do not send list” of unsafe care givers on my file.

Nurse next door, I am writing this letter not only as a farewell but also as an advocacy for myself and for your numerous of clients, especially the more vulnerable and older ones, who cannot speak for themselves. The quality, pride and strength of an organization is built not only on the management but more importantly on the countless workers who represent your organization and do the actual personal care and provide bedside assistance to your clients.

If your company is really “passionate in making a difference” as your website claims, look into the numerous flaws and unsafe caregivers that are rampant in your company who are providing care to your vulnerable clients.

We all would rather not be the client. If tables were turned and you or your loved one were in my situation, how would you like it if the care givers whom nurse next door keeps sending lacks experience, lacks safety and insight, and has no training? Learn to work with your clients and hear what their concerns are. I am in no means a perfect client. I learn from the caregivers and have learned what the boundaries are with regards to what nurse next door can provide for me and what my shortcomings are. However, the only difference is that I am able to recognize and acknowledge when I am wrong, and move forward and learn from it. Laurel, being defensive and dismissing the concerns and safety issues of your client never looked good nor professional on anyone.

Goodbye nurse next door. I hope that your management and care designers do not lose sight of the concept of empathy and what the essence of caregiving is all about.

Caregivers are very helpful and caring, very easy to schedule visits and they send the same caregiver which is great
