Goats on the roof! Wonderful stop to enjoy all the unique treasures of the shop. Gifts, groceries, baking, deli. On site there are other shops for ice cream, surf gear, donuts etc. Truly a must for visitors and locals alike.
I love coming here when I have enough time. Some friendly feedback: Difficult to find disability parking now, though. Sometimes I have to skip the visit.
Good selection in the deli, some of not overpriced. Loud classic rock radio makes it miserable for the hearing impaired who can't see lips moving under masks.
We come here often when we need to go for a drive and also need to pick some interesting groceries and intetesting gifts. They alao have an amazing bakery. Lots to check out and wander about and sometimes the goats are on the roof.
Utterly charming place with everything you need. Great places to eat too. I have some really nice bowls from here, got some nice wooden toys for my kids, and recently stocked up on really cute Christmas decorations. Has almost everything.
I gave it 2 stars as the ambiance is great but the prices are to high. I live in Qualicum and use to shop at the produce store all the time. They claim they don't have a point system as their prices are always low. This use to be true but not anymore. Prices are similar to Save on foods and with no savings or points towards more food, I no longer go. Goats on the roof has always been expensive and has just become more expensive with a covid surcharge of 2 percent of your total bill. So sad that they charge so high for all their product as the tourist will pay. Locals are starting to talk and no longer go there for weekly or daily shops. They are definitely not encouraging local people to come in and I believe they will feel the presure eventually when people stop going in the off season.
Looove this place! We got donuts behind the market the strawberry one was insanely delisious! Then went to the market and grabbed smoked salmon bites that were unreal, some of the food is very unique!
Huge island tourist spot. Lots of excellent stores for tourists and locals alike. Been here a few times and hit it up each time going up or down the island as a must stop visit.
This was a fun little place to visit with lots of cute shops, amazing donuts and friendly people. Not to mention the rooftop goats, so cute. Would highly recommend.
I usually love this place it’s my go to when I’m in the island but I was disappointed last time I was there since I thought I was getting a deal when in reality they were selling me an expired product without letting me know it was expired (which I wouldn’t buy if that was the case) this is expired since May. I had higher expectations from this place and it has let me down. Beware to check the dates on your products people!
So cute and kind! I've lived on the island my entire life and only just visited and regret not coming up every chance I got. Bakery items were delicious even cold, the selection of local and various other countries food/ingredients was so awesome! Of course the goats were great friends as well:)
Great food stuff but simply too expensive for the majority of locals $8.79 for six pickled eggs come on guys the same jar same and make is 4.98 at the grocery store sliced baloney 500g =9.00! It's 3.49 in town use to shop there but since covid the prices have become unrealistic and just unaffordable for so many the locals kept the place going in winter I'm not shure how that's possible come this winter everyone I talk to says no way they are not paying 6$ for a liter of milk and $8 for eggs and $7 for bread a simple bacon eggs and toast breakfast is over 40.00 if you bought everything here maybe if you are rich or don't care about money but myself and the people I talked too we work for a living I stoped going about 6 months ago all together I see no reason to go back I can get everything they offer in town for half price or less so that's what I'll do along with a lot of locals thanks for the memories but it's time to be moving on I hate to say it but some businesses think they are so good and people are lucky to have them around in reality they are a grain of sand in the Cog of commercialism one day they will close and another will take its place so cheaper the better its all the same anyway
Went there for the goats, happy to find the market with a good bakery department and deli, sandwiches were good from the restaurant inside, too bad they can't heat up the sandwiches. The market also sells quite a lot of unexpected items, worth a trip if you want to stock up some food before heading to Tofino.
Loved my experience here! It was fantastic to see these goats just roaming all over the roof! They were pretty curious and definitely come to see the people just as much as the people come to see them. The market had tons of moderately priced gifts for travellers. The deli was a bit expensive but I really enjoyed the candied salmon and peppered salmon. The market also has a wide variety of food items and other stuff like rugs and handmade soaps. Very eclectic and very much worth the visit, not only for the goats and market, but also for the beautiful natural scenery of the place itself and surrounding forest. I highly recommend a visit!
Place use to be great but the prices are super high and they've added a 2% operational fee to all purchases? I mean that's crazy. A blanket 2% on everything? , even the overpriced stuff. I guess if they showed the 2% on the price tag Noone would buy things.
Nice place to browse, with a variety of stuff to buy, but things are a little steeply priced. Still a nice place to stop on your way from Nanaimo to Tofino. There are actual goats on the roof.
An interesting mix of everything! Goats on the roof to European foods to knick-knacks of all sorts: clothes, toys, jewelry, arts and food. Very artsy and many student kinds of food, coffee and pastries.
Old country market has a little of everything. I usually get my Mexican vanilla from here. The staff was friendly and helpful. I was taken right to the item I was looking for not just given directions. That I truly appreciated! The wait to check out wasn't too long, they had great cashiers.
We didn't see any goats on the roof but the market had lots of selection for food items, toys and knick knacks! Fresh bread was pretty limited but it might have been the time of day we were there (~3pm)
Amazing shop, when on YouTube channels peoe say it has everything, it has a huge variety of things. We tried the bakery, wasn't Amazing but more like ok.
Market has something for everyone, goats on the roof are something to see and be sure to find the delicious donuts. Parking can be a chore to find when busy but worth the stop!
This place is so amazing they have so many things to see the food here is so tasty and the shelves are so packed so neatly in the store is so clean the staff is amazing service is great
Used to shop here all the time when I lived closer.now only on visits but I get stocked up on things everytime. Crossants with ham and cheese are the best since I was a kid.
There is so much to do here and the original store is still great. If you plan to eat at the original store be aware that it is VERY busy, so expect a very long wait. A faster option is to buy some premade food from the grocery portion of the store.
Love this place! Many great smells, many unique items, lots of neat things to look at. Staff are friendly and helpful. A bit busy, but as this place is popular, makes sense. Happy Shopping!
I don't know if I've ever actually seen goats on roofs here. But the market is a fun place to stop. They sell Indian Chindi rugs for very cheap. The 5×9 ft rug is $30! They have reasonably priced food, and of course lots of knick knacks and toys. It's a super fun touristy spot, but also a nice general store for locals.
Love this place! Great selection of organic.import.holiday.foods. The bakery and deli items are outstanding! If you are looking for an import item.you will likely find it here. Every cuisine you can imagine has its own section to shop from. Lots of cool unique gift items to choose from as well! We have made this a destination for many years.very busy in the summer but fall is a Great time to go! Prices are moderate.but selection is great.
From the goats on the roof to the fantabulous selection of food items I can't get anywhere else or the eclectic assortment of toys, gift items or home decor, I love Goats on the roof. Prices are fair and reasonable. The other stores in the "mall" are the usual tourist traps which I admit I avoid. There is a donut shop that my son loves (I don't, the donuts are tough) and an ice cream shop that unfortunately took over the amazing booth that was in the main store. The bakery produces a huge assortment of breads and treats that are so yummy. All in all you can spend hours wandering and still not see everything.
Nice that we didn't have to pay for parking, but not too impressed with the staff. First the meal took about half an hour to be brought to our table, then the staff we talked to there didn't seem very engaged in their jobs. Didn't even see very many goats, and only 2 partially hidden on the roof.
This is one my top favourite place to visit when I’m on the island. We always pick up art supplies and food and whatever else entices us. There are goats in the back too. They were pot bellied goats. So cute.
It's a very cool place to visit and the souvenirs are reasonably priced as are the goats on the roof shirts as for the food very expensive and we felt that it was good but just way to expensive we know for next time bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the cool statues and figures next to old country market. It's a great place to see the goats on the roof and we do like to support local business but let's get those prices more reasonable.
A variety of things to look at and buy, from smoked fish to tiys to freah baking. There is also an excellent restaurant in side. Last but not least, there are actual goats on the roof.
This market is a must see if you're passing through town or even if you're a local. The goats are often on the roof and the market has a huge variety of fresh vegetables, snacks, pastries, bread, nicknacks, toys, etc.and a restaurant inside.
This place in my estimation is one of the best must see places on Vancouver island. Selection, variety, unique products, and many artsy things you seldom find under one roof. We visited during a downpour and the place was packed. Restaurant at the back is great too. Nice selection and very tasty. Its always a place you want to return to buy more jam or special sauce from who knows where. The goats on the roof were smiling in the rain. Eating grass and drinking water at the same time!
Always quality. The restraunt has gotten a bit pricey but the shops are actually on the reasonable to inexpensive end. So, go see goats, get a nice new cheap and a cheerful hippie shirt and pay a little too much for a burger and fries!
Very busy tourist attraction. Congested parking but lots of it up the hill if you look for it. Huge selection of food, bakery, deli and dry goods as well as a cafetria. Good prices. Courteous & friendly staff. Lots of other shops and stores on the adjoining site and many other funky stores up and down the road. Easy to spend a half day there if you want to.
Fun place to go! Saw goats on the roof, great lunch at the Italian restaurant, found unexpected finds at Fengi's and in the market. Resisted the ice cream and donut shops!
The market is fine as it usually is, the small shops that used to be there are now gone this is what made the area vibrant it is now catering to tourists with an oversized icecream parlor and a high priced "artsy" gallery gone is the small comfortable area that I used to love to visit some small shops moved further down the road
Must see stop. Excellent market and shop with many other small boutique stores located around. Enjoy a stroll through and pick up some goodies en route to the west coast.
You have to visit this venerable mid-island store. Always with he time to get something at the bakery, the smoked salmon in the deli or some amazing ice cream. . Just don't sit under the edge of the roof.there a goats up there.
