This hotel is a rundown dump. The rooms smell and there is little to no service. I assume the new owners are running it into the ground on purpose for a tax write off or plans to redevelop it. It’s quite sad how bad it’s gotten. Please be aware that most of the reviews here are now fake. Nobody would ever give this place 5 stars.

Nice place direkt on the water. Wecsaw Orcas passing by and Sea lion. Restaurant was short on staff but manged well to cover the shifts. Breakfast was not continental.

Beautiful setting on the water. Staff shortages made our visit short because services were temporarily closed for that day.

We just spent a night here. Upon arrival we were so surprised to find that our room was more like a quaint 2-story cottage. It was so spacious! Once we were settled in we had an amazing lunch at the pub. We were seated out on the patio and were able to watch orcas playing in the distance. Such a treat! The food was delicious but the best part was our server, Shauna. She was so fun and personable and really made the experience memorable. This is a fantastic property with terrific staff and we would stay here again.

The view is spectacular, food is limited, waiting time is long, but the staff is friendly.

Food/drink timing could be adapted to be more engaging, and effective, to enhance the experience.

The rooms are already very worn. The price is not justified. The hotel is in a nice location, but that's about it. We were accommodated with 4 adults in a small room, the 2 large beds only fit 1 chair and 1 armchair. Otherwise, the room and the terrace are only designed for 2 people. Not to mention glasses, cups or towels. I think you can expect a little more for this price. The pool is also dry.

We enjoyed lunch at Painters Lodge recently. Service was excellent and the view of the water was beautiful. Eagles swooped down to catch and enjoy their lunch.
Our refreshments and lunch were tasty. We highly recommend!

We had a lovely time. From the moment of arrival we were treated wonderfully. Anything we needed was not an issue. Loved our room. Not fancy but who needs fancy when there are wonderful ocean view. High timbered ceilings. Comfy space and beds. Plus a pretty good breakfast was included. We had a great price as off season but even at full price it’s a gem. The lodge is lovely too with a nice lounge with fantastic views and a big warm fireplace.
The staff were all kind and helpful. Jennifer snd Alycia (hope I spelt that ok!) on front desk were so helpful. The lovely lady at breakfast was friendly and also very helpful. We met the manager Peter, and then understood why all the staff we met were kind, courteous and helpful. These qualities come from the top. Peter was very customer centric and professional.
We will be back and will bring our friends.

We spent the evening at Painters and had meals in both the lounge and restaurant, and stayed in a beautiful ocean front room! Excellent experience, service was great for everything and the food was great too!

We had a weekend we will never forget at the Painters Lodge.
This is an absolutely stunning area with amazing sunrises and breathtaking sunsets.
Our room was very large with a small fridge and even had a stone fireplace (no wood). Bathroom was good sized with everything we needed. Huge sundeck with ample seating. Continental breakfast with lots to choose from was included. We took a whale watching tour we booked from the hotel and it was an experience I will not forget.
The dining room was closed but the pub was open with a limited menu.
If I had a complaint it was the adjoining room doors, you could hear every word from the rooms.next to you at these doors and I took off one star for that.
The Decore is fishing lodge style and the ocean side views are everywhere.
A truly wonderful experience that I won't forget and I will be back.

Just went for lunch, excellent fish and chips. The service was great, the mimosas were tasty, $5 each and it was very good value.
13 November 2022 21:10
Great service at front desk, and in the pub. Restaurant was not open at all (must only be open in summer?). Breakfast was very nice with a good selection.
Room was very clean, but tired. Bed was hard, upstairs loft floor squeaked, bathtub grout was in need of a good scrubbing, deck boards were spongy.
When we asked for a bed topper, one was put on for us and the front desk agent said "we get that a lot".
The baseboard heaters in the fireside lounge were rusting, and one of the baseboard heater facias was coming completely off.
Overall the resort is in a beautiful setting, but it is clearly tired. Hopefully management will inject some much needed money and TLC into this property. It's rich history and heritage don't deserve the condition the resort is in now.

We should have read reviews before booking, our stay was awful, food left in the fridge, ice machines out of order, no coffee, pool closed and the staff were not helpful at all.very disappointing and will not return, the resort is very run down which is a shame because it used to be so beautiful.

The hotel looks good, great entrance and gardens, but the buildings and rooms need a great deal of maintenance and essential repair. Staff very helpful, but no service to rooms. No safe in the room. Menu limited but food ok

Great location with an amazing history. Staff should step up their game though. Level of service is average. You can do beter Painter’s lodge.

After staying at Painter's for 3 days I can tell you without a doubt this site does a magnificent job of landscape maintenance and management, that's all.

A year ago two friends and I planned a reunion at the Lodge. Everything in the literature indicated that we should have a fantastic time. Not so. I'm physically handicapped and walk with two canes. The staff were made aware of the difficulty I would have with stairs, yet offered no alternative to a room that required to sets of stairs to navigate.

They would not let us check in because it was not 4PM, so we retired to the outside deck which required navigating a major staircase with a primary step in a poor state of repair which I almost fell down.

We then went to our very expensive room to navigate a staircase with a loose handrail.

When we arrived in our room it was like a sauna. We looked for air conditioning or cooling controls. NONE EXISTED. This is a newly rebuilt lodge. Their is no excuse for a lack of cooling.

We went looking for ice and was told the ice machine was out of order and that we would have to do without. When one of us went to the front desk looking for ice it was like pulling teeth.

We then went to the pool area to find a missing ladder in the deep end which looked like it has been missing for quite some time. There were loose and lifting tiles to trip on and the general condition of the whole pool area was dismal.

The following we convened for breakfast in the dining room and stood waiting to get seated, but almost had to shoot flares in the dining room to get a table even though many staff walked right past us.

I had to use the washroom and noticed staff coming from it. When I finished in the washroom and went to wash my hands I couldn't help but notice that there was NO SOAP OR DISPENSER IN THE WASHROOM FOR ME TO USE, which of course means it wasn't there for the staff either.

Today when we went to check out I tried to buy a commemorative shirt in their gift shop. This is the only place in Canada where everyone wears size medium, because the young lady looking after told me that was all that was available.

On leaving the property I stopped at the front desk and asked for the GM. I was told that they would be in, in two hours. I left my name and number and asked to be called. More than 12 hours have passed. No call. Based on everything else I've experienced, I don't think they care.

This facility is located is fishing country and many people who stay here are fishermen. We had catch that needed refrigeration overnight until our flight and we had to fight to get them to put our packaged catch in the cooler to hold until our flight. Have they forgotten where they are?

It seems that there are plenty of staff but their management seems out of touch and out of sight when it comes to the needs of customers.

Beautiful scenery and nice grounds. The rooms need to be updated but they are still nice and the restaurant needs to be better stocked, before 2 years ago I had no problems but the last 2 years in a row I've been there the food I would like to order has not been available, this year it took 3 choices to get something ordered and I settled for the burger. The staff is polite and helpful but for a destination lodge I expect better and it's not cheap so you like to get what you feel like your paying for. One of the nicer places in Campbell River as far as scenery and grounds.

Dinner at Painters Pub on Monday.
Couldn't make reservations for 8 people - and none at all outside. Was told there would be lots of space. Not.
Served ourselves - for most of 3 hrs - putting tables together, getting our own menus, drinks etc.etc.
It took forever and cost a fortune.
We took guests from out of town - for the view and history.
It was embarrassing.
I have left numerous messages with management with no response.
On Mondays Dockside and Acropolis are closed - but Campbellriverites - choose the Quay, Chances new patio - anywhere but Painters.
More than disappointing!

I can only talk about the restaurant and it was amazing and very friendly services. If you are on Quadra Island you can take a water taxi. Last but not least: Debby ist the heart of the restaurant service:)

Staying in this Place brings you back to 1980, Nothing has changed since then. The staff is extremely inexperienced and inattentive, the manager too busy to talk to customers as she is supposedly in a meeting.the executive chef rules two restaurants and determines the number of people welcome in his restaurants. Unfortunately the wait is still far too long and the quality poor. The rooms are warm and smelly. The pool just dirty and foam on the surface of hot tub. Tennis court comes with rackets and balls from the stone ages. Fitness facilities a laugh. All “expeditions” and marine centre trips are fully booked and no alternatives in place. Breakfast is a disgrace with again unfriendly staff. The owner should take his responsibility; close the 2 places and start a complete renovation and training programme for his staff. Do I need to add that asked about the spa facility, which is shown on the website, is closed the whole season for renovation. Don't go here (!) we will not ever again!

Painters Lodge used to be an Amazing place an iconic lodge in Campbell river. Ever since the business slipped into the hands of foreign buyer the quality has plumeted both in terms of customer service and ambience. Often come across locals being unhappy with the Lodge sold to an outsider, have to agree with this. City is losing its History. Money knows Money, really tragic.
02 September 2019 12:47
This resort is garbage.claim they are a fishing resort, we came from out of town to go in a fishing derby paid 400 for our room for the weekend and they wouldn't even let us get picked up on the dock.
01 September 2019 21:24
Ate in the pub and the view was great. Food looked good when it arrived but unfortunately we ended up being disappointed. Burger & fries were burnt and the nachos were soggy. The only highlight were the deep fried jalapenos on the nachos. Server was nice but inexperienced. We will not return.

No star rating.so very poor. We all got sick from the food. Not accommodating for gluten allergy’s. When I called the manager he was rude and unapologetic for the shity time we had. Very unprofessional. So sad this is what it has become. Will never go back! And I will tell everyone about my experience.

Dinner was over priced and pretty bad. Had risotto that I think was from frozen as it was incredibly watery and had not been seasoned at all. Tasted very bad to say the least. Then ordered an “espresso brulet”. Wasn’t anything like a brulet and had no coffee at all. Was a mug of vanilla “cream” stuff with whipped cream on top. Breakfast was very average and even though it was free, we still got charged and were told to claim a refund. Our server was also extremely sassy and acted like doing her job was a pain. What’s more is that the waitress spilt drinks all over two of the people I was with when having a drink at the pub and went to sort herself out before helping out my friends. Only come here if you like bad service and food

We arrived late but found the main building charming and the bar was great as well as the food for a late meal. Our room was is an older building in the back. It immediately smelled like mold and mildew, even when turning on the heat. It was raining outside so couldn't open the doors for a decent breeze. There was no fan in the bathroom so no way to draw the air out that way. As the evening wore on the smell became unbearable. The wood smelled, the walls smelled, the carpet. My husband and I both use a CPAP so were thankful to wear those to hide the smell. We didn't even take a shower in the morning we wanted to leave so quickly. Tonight in a new hotel we turned on our machines and they now have the mildew smell inside them! I can't imagine what we are breathing!

One of the few oceanfront patios left in town to have a beer on a sunny afternoon. Too bad the service was so slow.still.
06 August 2019 10:21
A full range of activities available so ask before arriving and having booked somewhere else. Staff unfailingly courteous and helpful even by Canada's hugh standards. Deer grazing outside our room, humpback whale leaping in the background on our first night. Ice machine and pool not working but this didn't detract at all.

Setting is beautiful. The rooms were damp and cold and required me to put the heat on to take the dampness/cold away. The rooms are dates and in need of an update. The pub had a huge burger which was really good. Watching the cruise ships go past was fun.

If you love fishing, and if you love class, and if you want a relaxing time book here. Boat ride to April point, where there is lots to do to enjoy Quadra island as well.
