I am thoroughly impressed with the educational experience at Pear Tear School, and I feel compelled to share my experience as a parent. I was a student at pear tree elementary and I have found that after returning to a public school in grade 9 my math and french skills have not been up to curriculum standards due to the slow learning at pear tree. The methods we were expected to complete in grade 7 and 8 were not met at pear tree and as a result my academic skills have greatly suffered and I am currently failing in math and french. I was very focused in every subject at pear tree and still am doing badly in most subjects in grade 9. The principles were also not very helpful to both me and my parents. Paul was always trying to convince my parents to pay for next years tuition and being very persistant and annoying about payment. Ms. B was not good at dealing with social issues. I’ve gotten into disputes with peers at school and Ms. B always tried to solve them in the most childish ways. She would use her methods that she would teach every Thursday that were clearly directed to kindergarteners and grade 1s to solve our grade 7 and 8 problems. Near the end of school my mom printed out very nice baby pictures of us for our “graduation” and the day after school ended my mom went to go pick them up and found that Ms. B shredded them. Which is VERY inappropriate obviously. In terms of break/recess we would be given 45 minutes of break every day which seems fair however the walk towards the park 10 minutes away would count to our recess time. In grade 8 we were aloud to go out for lunch and do what ever we want but they would force us to eat our food that wasn’t very good which would usually lead to having nearly 0 break during lunch. Im sorry for any incorrect spelling or grammar but that is peartrees fault. Thank you for your time.

My time at Pear Tree School was great! As part of a Working-Holiday stay, I gained countless experiences during my three months of work at this school. I immediately felt warmly welcomed and, thanks to the small class sizes, I was able to quickly get to know the children better.

Every single child is appreciated. During the school year all of them visibly developed personally as well as their skills. I really felt the whole-child approach in every lesson. True-to-life and theme-based learning is the top priority – both in the classroom (e.g. Raising salmon and butterflies) and on the numerous field trips. From a nearby beach or community garden, to museums and parks including an indigenous guide, to a school trip lasting several days – there are always great offers related to the respective theme. It is very impressive what the children remember thanks to this way of learning. They independently continue what they have learned and enthusiastically share it with others.

In particular, I would like to highlight the school's Hot Lunch Program! The talented chef serves a freshly prepared and varied meal every day, as well as several snacks. Furthermore, the children spend a lot of time outdoors and can move regularly as they have physical education every day. They are all very independent, respect each other and learn naturally how to speak in front of groups, develop their own ideas and gain self-confidence. In my eyes the relationship between teachers and students is extremely positive, friendly and respectful.

I am more than grateful for the experiences I was able to gain at Pear Tree! I had a great time, met incredible people and gathered a lot for my professional career. Thank you so much, dear Pear Tree community!

I am writing this review to share my deeply frustrating and disheartening experience with Pear Tree Academy. Regrettably, my son's enrollment at their establishment turned out to be a complete disaster, marked by unfulfilled promises and a lack of integrity. It is my duty to caution other parents against falling victim to this dishonest and untrustworthy institution.

From the very beginning, Pear Tree Academy failed to live up to their claims of providing a quality education. Their staff exhibited a lack of professionalism, often providing conflicting information and demonstrating disorganization. It was clear that they did not have a coherent plan or the necessary expertise to deliver on their educational commitments.

However, the most distressing aspect of our encounter with Pear Tree Academy was their handling of financial matters. Not only did they take our money without delivering the promised services, but they also refused to issue a full refund as initially agreed upon. This blatant disregard for their own refund policy is a testament to their deceitful and unethical business practices. It is unacceptable for an institution to profit at the expense of unsuspecting parents and their children's education.

Furthermore, Pear Tree Academy's communication was severely lacking, adding to the frustration and disappointment. Phone calls and emails were frequently ignored or met with evasive responses, leaving us feeling neglected and ignored. The lack of transparency and accountability from the academy only reinforced our belief that they were engaging in dishonest practices.

In terms of academic quality, Pear Tree Academy fell far below expectations. The curriculum was poorly executed, and the teachers demonstrated a lack of enthusiasm and expertise. My son's educational development suffered greatly under their inadequate guidance, leaving him ill-prepared for future academic endeavors.

Moreover, the physical condition of the academy was subpar. The facilities were ill-maintained and lacking essential resources, creating an uncomfortable and unproductive learning environment. It was evident that Pear Tree Academy did not prioritize the well-being and educational needs of their students.

In conclusion, I strongly urge parents to exercise caution and steer clear of Pear Tree Academy. Their dishonesty, refusal to provide a full refund, poor communication, and substandard academic standards make them unworthy of your trust. Look elsewhere for a reputable institution that genuinely cares about your child's education and prioritizes ethical practices.

I feel incredibly fortunate to be a part of this school, surrounded by dedicated and compassionate colleagues who continually inspire me with their innovative approach to education & child development. Pear Tree encompasses numerous elements that contribute to an unparalleled environment: theme-based learning, a close-knit community, specialized physical education courses like parkour and Tae Kwon Do, engaging field trips, a fantastic hot-lunch program, and so many other unique qualities.

The small size of the school and its unique structure provide children of all grades with the opportunity to interact and connect with one another. Witnessing older students become mentors and forge meaningful friendships with the younger ones is incredibly heartwarming & beneficial for their maturation.

Speaking of the hot lunch program, it surpasses all expectations. The chef has not only taught the students (and staff) about nutrition but has also exposed us to an array of brilliant global cuisines. Here, food is more than just fuel—it is contextualized to help students grow into respectful, adventurous eaters.

What brings me the most fulfillment in working here is witnessing the genuine happiness of the students. Every single day, they greet every staff member, from the kitchen assistant to the principal, with a smile. It's truly remarkable to see an entire school disappointed that summer break has arrived because of how much they genuinely enjoy being here. It also astonishes me how this model discourages unhealthy competition among students while still successfully motivating them to reach their highest potential—just one achievement that sets Pear Tree apart from many other independent schools.

Lastly, the school is run with a perfect balance of professionalism and kindness, constantly adapting to meet the evolving needs of students. The leaders embody the growth mindset they promote, providing unwavering support to both students and staff, ensuring that everyone feels secure and well-cared for.

If you're seeking a school that goes beyond simply imparting knowledge and truly nurtures a love for learning & curiosity in your child, I wholeheartedly endorse Pear Tree. This school not only provides an enriching academic experience but also fosters a supportive community who are genuinely invested in your child's development.

Our son started at Pear Tree School this academic year, and it has been one of the best decisions we have made. He is positively thriving academically and socially. Every day he is excited to go to school and is so enthusiastic about every aspect of his day.

We love that Pear Tree is a progressive school. Rather than learning by subjects, the students are taught by theme and project based learning and the subjects are connected in a meaningful way for the students to fully understand what is being taught and can therefore apply the knowledge. Other valuable skills such as problem solving, critical thinking and creativity are also integrated in the teaching, and all learning is connected to real life.

Moreover PE is taught daily, as well as the traditional sports, our son has also learned parkour, yoga, dance, ice-skating to name a few this year.
French and music is also taught several times a week, which our son really enjoys.

Lunch time and snack time is also an exciting part of the day because the in-house chef prepares delicious, nutritious and wholesome hot lunches and snacks daily. The meals are so good that our son has been willing to try new foods. We are so happy to see him become more of an adventurous eater!

Pear Tree is an inclusive and warm community. Our son joined in grade 4 but it feels like he has always been at Pear Tree. We cannot recommend Pear Tree School highly enough!

Spending a couple of months in Vancouver in the course of a sabbatical we are very glad that our three children were able to attend and experience Pear Tree School. Even though it has been for such a short period, we as a family felt very welcomed and part of the Pear Tree community from day one on and leaving feels somehow bittersweet given all the positive effects the school has had on our children and the great experiences they have made during that time.

The kids loved the theme-based lessons and especially the hands-on approach, which helped them to really understand and remember the learning content. The staff shows great creativity in teaching the children and there is a great amount of practical content which highly motivates the them in their learning.

It amazed us how the teachers approached every child regarding its personality, character and strengths and how they really built a relationship with them. Their mentorship, encouragement and permanent support led to a huge progress of our children, not only language-wise but also regarding their personalities and self-confidence. Every single child really matters at Pear Tree.
The school has developed a culture of positivity, respectful and caring interaction with others and warmheartedness that every staff member has embraced and that also transfers to the children.

Accompanying the school operations there is a very well-thought, healthy and varied food program which ranges from several snacks a day to lunch. Pear Tree has their own chef employed who is always creating fresh food in an included kitchen and directly serves it to the children. They can even partly participate in the selection of the meals which are served.

We are extremely grateful for the time our children have spent at Pear Tree School - it will be a lifelong memory, not only for our children but also for us as parents. We wish Pear Tree School all the best for the time to come and will be happy to follow its further development.

It is too heartbreaking to say goodbye, June 1st will be my daughters last day at Peartree.
No words can express how much Peartree means to them, I still remember the first day that my eldest daughter joined Peartree, it has been five years since then!
We can tell the huge progress they have made, our family will never forget the great support and kindness from Pear Tree. This experience will definitely be cherished forever!

I’ve been an EA at Pear Tree since April 2022 and will be returning for the upcoming 2023/2024 academic year. I’m continually wowed by the work and learning the students are doing. It’s theme based vs subject based and the teachers weave math, language, geography, science, art etc into their term by term projects. The children often work in partners and groups and are encouraged and supported to problem solve and navigate sticky situations that can arise when collaboration is required. The amount of presentations and public speaking the children do here is beyond amazing. It’s so valuable for self esteem both now and later in life. I also LOVE the smaller class sizes. Children are seen and heard, there’s no risk of slipping through the cracks. Love the French and music components. Love the hot lunch program (delicious, nutritious and varied). Big fan of the fabulous field trips that students get to do. Big (HUGE!) fan of the incredibly talented caring and energetic teachers that Pear Tree hires!
