This review is catered towards dog owners hoping to take their pup on a hike Quarry Rock. Read more…

Popularity: 5/5
Quarry rock is a very popular hike and well known for its view of the Indian Arm. There are a number of different trails that can be used to reach Quarry rock, some shorter and easier and others longer and more difficult. The easier more direct trails can get very crowded during the summer months which can make it difficult to manage when hiking with a dog especially if you have a young energetic pup. Quarry rock itself (the viewpoint) is also usually quite crowded during summer and it can be difficult to find a spot to relax and enjoy the view.

Activities: 3/5
Other than hiking through the forest and enjoying the view on Quarry rock, there aren’t really any other activities for you and your pup to enjoy on this hike. Dogs are allowed off leash.

Quarry rock offers a nice view of the Indian Arm and of Belcarra on the other side. It’s not super impressive but not bad considering the short length and relative ease of the hike.

Comfort: 2/5
Not many good resting spots during the hike and due to the popularity of the hike, it’s usually difficult to find a comfortable place to relax at the and enjoy the view while at the viewpoint.

Safety: 4/5
The popularity of the hike makes it very safe and also makes it very unlikely for you to get lost. However, the viewpoint is unfenced and surrounded by cliffs so you may want to leash your dog if he or she is not careful around heights.

Accessibility: 3/5
There are multiple trailheads that can be used to reach Quarry rock and all are easy to get to by car. I started at the trailhead on Indian River Dr and there was a number of spots on the side of the road for parking. Quarry rock itself is only accessible to those who are able to hike. Some sections of the hike can get quite steep and there are stairs and boardwalks in some areas. There are no scrambles on the hike.

Overall this is not a hike I would recommend for people who are looking for a fun off leash adventure with their pup. The crowded trails and viewpoint can make it difficult for those with a young energetic dog and the view while nice, is not impressive. There is also a lack of other activities to do with your dog on this hike. It’s a place worth visiting once to check out the view, but there are other more interesting hikes with much better views to explore in North Vancouver.

I want to share my experience yesterday in Deep cove as an immigrant in Canada. There was a guy who was drunk and swearing and threatening us. He was asking us to leave the place as immigrants were not allowed in the place. We didn’t feel safe at all. He really ruined our day. We heard he is doing that for years now. I wonder why no one takes any actions over him. Please be mindful if you go there next time. I hope no one will experience this kind of thing ever again there. Overall hike, Kayaking and the scenery was all nice.

Terrible place, definitely don't go terrible for you if you hate amazing views and beautiful trails. Lets keep this place a hidden gem!

We started the hike from Mt Seymour Rd where Baden Powell trail starts. There are few free parking spots. It's an easy and not too long hike. Less than 5km. You'll get the outstanding view of deep cove by the end of the trail.

Went today and the trail is still closed. The sign said the trail was damaged in the winter. I don't understand why by the end of the summer it was still not fixed? Very disappointing.

I went for a hike with a friend yesterday and I saw this incredibly cute girl wearing a Vans x Nat Geo shirt and a gray Herschel bag, I wanted to talk to her but didn’t want to bother at the same time. I felt a connection and would love to meet her. I know this probably won’t get me nowhere but it doesn’t cost to try.
Cute sweet hiker, if you see this, hit me up:) #missedconnection

Though the trail is marked as closed, it was still easily hike-able and we saw hikers of all ages hiking up as well.we came on a weekday around noon and there wasn’t too many people; however, expect to wait for parking spot at panaroma park! The view at the top was beautiful, and the hike is very accessible for beginner hikers. I’d recommend shoes with ankle support if you’re prone to rolling your ankle.

Pretty easy hike that anyone can do. Not overly long either. Enjoyable I would say. The view is good. Good exercise for anyone. I do it every year.

Easy hike with my pet hedgehogs (domestic, not wild). They had a fun time meeting other people as well.

Photos taken in 2018 and 2019.

Busy and difficulty to find parking during peak times. The hike is not too difficult with a great view at the end.

Temporarily closed due to COVID. The viewpoint itself is closed, not just the trail. Using an alternative route is still trespassing and it is being enforced so hike at your own risk.

This is an off leash trail for dogs! Only the first very small section of stairs is on leash, and afterward there is a sign that indicates leashes are optional.

If you do not like dogs, or your dog doesn't like off leash dogs, this is not the trail for you.

Dreamy!

Unfortunately it's access from Deep Cove is temporarily closed but you can get there by other nearby Rds.

I love this trail. Its a great outside work out and the best part is reaching the top. Sense of accomplishment meets breathtaking views!

Can't wait for the trail to open back up but for now I enjoy the walks around and enjoy the vibe

Unfortunately, Local residents want this hike closed forever to make this public place as their own backyard just like crescent Beach residents keep stairs closed which access to the south side of crescent Beach. I am afraid that there will be more close down in the name of covid. Open up city council

I just called the local restaurant and yes it’s closed. Too bad, it’s a nice easy trail and it’s “outside “.

Awesome hike in an awesome community! Amazing views and experiences! Friendly hikers and public washrooms near the cove. Make sure to bring water and there are steep inclines and declines. You will break a sweat! Can't wait for it to be open again! Love the spot and most other locals do to!

I will never do this “hike” again. Is was so packed full of tourists and people “hiking” it takes maybe under an hour to get to the top, but because there are so many people on the trail it’s the equivalent to being in a mall. I saw a woman doing the trail carrying a Prada bag and someone else wearing Keds just to give you an idea of the types of people doing this particular trail. If you absolutely must do this hike I suggest doing it on a week day and as early in the morning as possible to beat the masses. The view at the top is nice, but not spectacular.

Nice hike and a decent view. Personally, I think the view is a bit overrated and there are nicer areas. Though this os am excellent hike for rookies to hiking. Though for the more experienced, try Diez Vistas. Hard but worth it.

Hike is relatively easy (doable for a beginner), but the peak can get extremely crowded. Be prepared for uneven terrain and take care not to lose your footing whilst taking pictures of the scenery from above. Floor place may not be adequate for seating during peak hours.
