Everything is better in a box. Finally had a chance to visit Raisu as its been on my bucket list for a long while

Had the Sho ka do bento box, mixed cutlet teishoku, and yuzu tuna tataki.

Good cutlets. Liked the wagyu beef best as it was super tender and juicy (as was the scallop).
The tuna tataki was cut thick and turned out flavourful.

The Sho Ka Do bento appetizer box was impressive. Not sure if the items change or if they are set. Think it contained hamachi salad, hamburg steak (really good), mixed seafood,
Brussels sprouts, prawn, yuzu tuna tataki,
uni shooter, chicken karaage, a puff pastry with some kind of cheesy seafood (weakest of the set). Would definitely order this again.

Food is very good. My friend couldn't stop eating after he was full from how delicious it was. The waitress was very kind to take our picture. Customer service very kind towards customer birthdays

Was expecting the food portions to be tiny like it's competitors, but portions properly sized. It's a good nicer restaurant for special occasions, that isn't too expensive

It seems like the head chef had a day off. While the dish composition was good, the rice lacked flavor, and even the special Aburi sushi today wasn't tasty. I particularly enjoyed the "Kotatus"traditional Japanese table, especially during winter.and then waitresses was wonderful.

Raisu is overall a great restaurant to visit. I love the ambience of this place and the customer service is excellent. The food is quite good but wasn’t anything mind blowing (and it is a bit on the pricier side, so do keep that in mind. This is also the reason I gave it 4 stars). I usually don’t give out reviews for places but I came here for my birthday with my family and the staff was awesome. They come out with a few staff members to sing happy birthday to you with a complimentary dessert (which is standard in most restaurants), but what stood out to me was that they take a photo of your group and print out a decorated Polaroid! This was the highlight of my night and thought it was such a simple and thoughtful gesture from the restaurant. I would definitely recommend coming here for a birthday or even any occasion. I will definitely be coming back:)

Uni omakase was great and sooo worth the money. Amazing value for money.

The appetizer was the best. Acidic, good uni flavour, truffle jelly. Amazing combination.

Sashimi and maki was great. Lots of fresh fat uni.

Uni egg custard was soft and thick flavoured.

Uni stone rice was better with the soup but salty.

Raisu is an excellent Japanese restaurant with delicious food. Their drinks are very reasonably priced with my favorite being the Naminooto Kabosukkiri Fruit Sake. The Chicken Karaage and Garlic Edamame were some of my favorites.

It was a bit hot in the section where you take your shoes off when we went but they're great for special events (very entertaining birthday singing with a tamberine and free polaroid of everyone).

Came here a few times before for their uni special. This time I came for their new kobe wagu zankai menu!
For the price it’s definitely worth it!
Friendly service and great food.

Sho Ka Do bento was delicious and service was super friendly and welcoming! I booked a table through online and pre-ordered bento few days ago. It was my partner's bday. They sang a bday song and took a Polaroid photo of us. It was unique experience for us and I will definitely visit again to try other menu

Each time I come here somebody celebrates here his/her birthday. The place is really special with its authentic atmosphere and amassing food.

Um what? I can't go back to regular sushi joints now. Had the bento, don't understand how this was $32 because it was beyond awesome. Shared the aburi sushi, also awesome.

Very spacious inside with good distancing btw tables. Food very good. On the pricer side but the quality is what you are paying for.

It was such a bad experience. After our meal came out, server did came up to our table to check upon us with the food and drinks which was great. HOWEVER, he came to our corner table more than 7 times and checking our plates as if he was pressuring us to leave ASAP. I understand the server was trying to do his job, but no need to come in front of our table and see if our food was done while we were still working on it. I felt very uncomfortable. All the other tables were empty by the way. It's been only 30 minutes since we sat in the table please let us enjoy our meal.

Really fresh sashimi. Overall had a great time here. We went right at when they opened and they didn’t have the 2 items (blue fin tuna and the whelk) that we really want to try that’s why only 4 stars and not 5. We ordered the deluxe seafood bowl instead.

Amazing food! Super welcoming staff, great service and very appropriate covid protocol! We shared the Deluxe Bowl?

Waitress was nice and good service. Husband said like it better in Japan.but we are here.and i think it is one of the best we could get in Vancouver.:)

From the beautiful decor to the absolutely incredibly prepared and unique dishes, Raisu is just absolutely incredible. If you like authentic Japanese food, you already like Raisu.

Every dish we ordered was great. Wagyu Udon, chicken wings, sashimi rice bowl, all very good. The ambience in the solarium area was unique and comfy however the heat lamps got too hot for our table.

Amazing food, it leans on the expensive side. But you can tell that what you pay for the quality is also there

Delicious place and friendly staff!
We came here for the Shokado Bento boxes and they did not dissapointed.

Recommended to come here with some good friends and have some food drinks!

Friendly staffs, good food, good portion and good atmosphere. But just don’t think it’s enought to justify the price.

Fantastic Japanese cuisine with very energetic and welcoming staff. The amount of effort put on to each dish really shows.
10 January 2019 2:26
This is definitely my go to place for Japanese food - sushi sashimi or izakaya style food. They also offer a good selection of vegan choices. The vegan bento box is not to be missed!
29 December 2018 11:15
They serve Japanese style meal set. It comes with main, rice, miso soup and Japanese pickles. I'm happy I found this place because of the serving style.
27 December 2018 15:38
A high end Japanese restaurant with some nice plating and unique platters. Slightly expensive but worth the try. Service was pretty good too.
23 December 2018 23:56
Great service and decadent food. A modern twist on traditional Japanese cuisine with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Patio seating is very cosy with heating. Make sure to book the SHO KA DO or the ZEN bento ahead of time! Dinner menu is different than lunch menu offerings, but it's worth it to come back at different times to try different things. Some items are limited to a certain quantity per dining session so get there early to place your order! Don't go to Raisu and expect seating with no reservations. You will be turned away because it's quite often completely packed.

Came here for dinner, wasn't too long for a wait but it can get busy. Started off with a yuzu lemonade, sweet and bubbly. Ordered the omakase 3 kinds which had a selection of tuna, salmon and tuna belly. The sushi tastes very fresh and melts in your mouth. Also ordered the wagyu shabu shabu udon, the soup was poured in front of us into the bowl of udon, some vegetables and rare sliced wagyu beef. The soup was nicely flavoured, salty, but not overly since theres a yuzu zest in it. Would definitely return and try other dishes from Raisu, would recommend checking out.

Always delicious, but I hate that they turn off the lights every 5 mins to sing happy birthday while we are trying to eat because we couldn't see anything, or we were in the middle of trying to take pictures or was just about to put food in our mouths. Seriously they turned off the lights at least 8 times to sing happy birthday every time I go there

Ok, I acknowledge that this is a higher end establishment but it is not anything special over restaurants downtown. I had no expectations and walked in on a whim. I was asked if I had reservations which told me that this could be quite a busy place. It was a Thursday evening and it was about half full. I was seated at the horseshoe shaped counter in the middle of the dining area. I browsed the menu but had forgotten my glasses. Luckily, (or unluckily, you decide) I was able to make out the items and ordered the mixed cutlet teishoku (which means meal). My order came out promptly and it looked great and tasted as it should. The meal came with tonkatsu (pork cutlet), menchikatsu (hamburger cutlet), one ebi, rice, miso soup, shredded cabbage, white & black sesame in a mortar & pestle, tonkatsu sauce and homemade tartar sauce. I asked for okawari (more rice and/or miso soup) which they happily gave me. Satisfied with a filling meal, I asked for my bill. To my utter shock and amazement, that meal cost $26! Plus, with the taxes and tip (the service was ok), it ended up being close to $35. There is no bloody way that the meal I ate was worth that much! I was thinking, at most, it won't cost more than $20 and even at that price, I would think the meal was over priced. The establishment cost, skills of the preparer, and the quality of food does not justify anything close to what I was charged. Perhaps cut down on your labour cost by having the appropriate number of servers at the proper time as there were a few servers standing around (sometimes more than one at the same time) waiting. At any rate, I'm not coming back unless someone offers to pay for me.

SHO KA DO BENTO ($29) – FOUR STARS
Raisu’s signature bento box presented a variety of fresh and delicious mini courses selected by the chef. Some of the items featured in my box included aburi sushi, seared tuna, crab and poached salmon. The signature box is limited to 15 servings per lunch and dinner time. It came with a side of white rice and miso soup. The presentation was beautiful.

SEAFOOD “DONABE TAKIKOMI” RICE ($24) – THREE STARS
Sea urchin and snow crab in a Japanese clay pot rice. Lots of sea urchin flavour but overall this dish fell a bit short for me.

CHICKEN KARAAGE ($10) – THREE AND A HALF STARS
Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It came with a side of lemon wedge and salt for dipping. I wish it came with a side of sauce instead.

SEAFOOD TARTAR ($9) – THREE AND A HALF STARS
Fresh marinated mixed seafood with a side of bread. I wish it came with crispy chips or baked bread instead. The cold bread was a bit stale and boring for the fresh seafood.

SEA SNAIL AND MAYO – ZERO STARS
The sea snails were very chewy and there was too much mayo in this dish. We let our server know and she kindly took this dish off our bill.
