Amazing bicycle shop and mechanics! Thank you for always being above and beyond! Really cool waiting area and super love the boneyard. Best wishes.

So many good things to say about this place. I signed up for the “learn how to fix your bike” course. I signed up with no knowledge. I literally was looking for someone to teach me how to change a tire. Not only, did I learn that, I learnt how to fix a few other things on my bike. Things I paid someone else to do for waaaaayyyy more money.

The bike mechanic leading the course was extremely helpful and very clear and concise when teaching. It was the perfect environment to learn and at a great value.

I went in nervous and in fear of judgement and I left feeling empowered. 10/10 would recommend

Recyclistas is a great place to learn to fix your bike. The teachers take you where you are and give you the hands on learning to make fixing your own bike a pleasure

My friend and I attended a bike repair course that Shane hosted. It was by far the best money spent. We learned on our own bikes, gained confidence and had a few laughs while doing it. Having every tool imaginable at your fingertips and quality instruction was absolutely worth it. We will be back for future bike fixes we'd like to learn thanks so much for your help!

I did their course where they teach you how to repair whatever your bike needs and it was amazing! I learned how to take a deraileur apart, resurface my brakes, install a new drive train and more! My instructor Shayne was an absolute gem. Super patient, enthusiastic and informative. Great shop doing a big service to the cycling community here in Vic.

They have classes that teach you how to fix your own bike. I was really anxious and wasn't super confident but they made it easy and relaxed. You just show up, say your problem, and they help you diagnose the root issue and fix it yourself. They provide all the tools teach you to use them. They're great teachers and really chill. If you need a tune up or fixes, take it here. You'll learn to do it yourself and feel more confident and capable for it.

Also hats off to Shane. A good teacher makes all the difference.

Bought a bike from here today. Such a great experience. Super knowledgeable staff who assisted me through ever step of my purchase. I hadn’t ridden a bike in 10+ years but they got me up to speed. Needing parts, repairs or a new (used) bike, I totally recommend coming here.

Great, found a vintage road bike their boneyard (it’s a yard full of as-is bikes for 50-100$) told them I wanted it and they inspected for me for free right away. Bought it and used the advise they gave me to fix a few small things myself although they repair for a good price. All in I have a gorgeous bike for under 150$ and I know I’ll be back when I upgrade parts. They also sell great stickers.

I took one of their workshops where you bring in your own bike and get taught how to fix it yourself. It was so satisfying getting stuck in and working on my bike myself. A very rewarding experience.

It was just one other person and I in the workshop, with a super friendly guy from Recyclistas helping us both. He was very warm and welcoming, and respected the other participant's choice of pronouns.

I saved a bunch of money on labour, and had a fun time learning and fixing. Highly recommended!

I attended a "learn to fix your own bike" class. It is a small class that gives you the luxury of learning the things your own bike needs done. The instructor was very helpful, skilled and knowledgeable. It was fun to work on my own bike to get it in shape. The shop is full of all kinds of helpful gizmos and every kind of part you might need, including some you didn't even know you needed (like a pump in your seat post!). Super fun and helpful class, I would highly recommend it.

I took a class without knowing anything about my bike and the staff were very helpful in teaching me to fix it and maintain it, I'd highly recommend checking them out if you're interested in learning how to fix things yourself!

Took the "Learn to Fix Your Bike" class with Shane (hope I'm spelling that right) and it was excellent! Shane was very welcoming and friendly, as well as being knowledgeable and patient. I learned a lot and felt great about being able to care for my bike better and get it back to a happy working condition. Also, I'm someone who can't stand for long periods of time, and he provided me with a chair and was easy-going and accommodating whenever I needed to be sitting for a task or while listening to him explain something. Overall I highly recommend it, no matter your experience level!

This place is so awesome, I almost feel like I should keep it a secret so I can have it for myself! I brought my 1986 Miele mountain bike with me to a workshop so I could learn to fix it myself. I made a list of what I wanted to learn (and do if we had time), and I thoroughly cleaned my bike beforehand. The prep and focus was worthwhile (I got through my entire list). Shane worked with me and another participant, and he is a really great teacher. He told me how to do a task, demonstrated if needed, and then had me do it. I learned well from this teaching technique. I especially appreciated that he understood that I value my bike, and he demonstrated care and respect for it too, finding me decent parts to put on it, and checking that my work was up to standard before moving on to the next task. I also learned the names and types of components on my bike, and he showed me a variety of different types of components to contrast mine to. THIS is the place to take a bike for repair. How did I not find this place earlier? I left with a bike that feels new again, and a couple of tools I needed to maintain my bike until the next time it needs service I don’t know how to perform. I highly recommend Recyclistas. Thanks, Shane and Recyclistas Staff!

I dropped my bike off to replace a frayed shifting cable. The mechanic I left it with also mentioned my chain was stretched to. 5%, and that it should be replaced soon to preserve the cassette, but they didn't have a chain on hand. That was all fine with me, so away I went.

A couple of days later someone phoned saying instead the chain was completely stretched (to. 75) and the whole cassette toast, too. It seemed weird that this was so different from the first assessment, so I said no to the work. They also told me the rear gears "weren't working" and needed to be fixed. I was super surprised by this (they were fine when I dropped my bike off) so he rechecked them while I was on the phone and then decided they were ok after all.

If they had just called me about replacing the chain, I would have happily done it. But this felt like repairs were being pushed on me that were premature (cassette) or not needed at all (rear gears/cable). I rechecked my chain at home, it's not yet stretched to. 75% and I'll be getting a second opinion on my cassette.

The work I requested in the first place was well done, and I liked the first mechanic I dealt with, but I don't feel confident in this shop overall after this experience.

Solid small bike shop in Victoria and the dude (Shane i think) helped me with some shifting issues on my bike. Friendly service and good prices. Recommended for bike folks visiting the area.

My bike was well serviced. A touch higher priced than my original quote, but the work was quality.

Jordan is so awesome. My brakes feel so good right now and my bike feels like it's brand new. YAYAYAYA!

Provided excellent mentorship for my youth in care. The workshop was a great opportunity for youth to build skills and build their resume.

Awesome place! I was cruising by and remembered I needed to fix a few things on my bike. With no notice at all, I was able to grab a work space for my bike, and was guided through replacing my chain, cassette, and a sprocket by the great guys of Recyclistas. My bike is riding so well now, and I really appreciated you guys teaching me, so next time around, I will be able to do it on my own.

Community minded businesses like Recyclistas are what makes Victoria such a great place to be. I will most certainly be back, and will send all my friends, too!

Thanks guys!

Needed a decent 26" wheel to replace a worn one (rim and hub). Picked up a decent used wheel for $20. Needs a bit of TLC on the bearings but seems straight and has a box rim. Stainless spokes. One less wheel in the landfill (hmm.not sure what I'm going to do with my old wheel).

Took the 3-hour course here and had a blast! Learned so much, but also felt so good to be supporting such a good shop. Highly recommended!

I have purchased two bikes from them & it was an awesome experience. They really know their stuff!

This place is terrible. I went in to get a part for my bike to attach v brakes. They sold me the wrong part. I went back and told them it's wrong and showed them my bike again! He grabbed me another part and after I pointed out I thought it was wrong, he again insisted it's was the one I needed.it was again wrong! They dont know anything about bikes.

I am a 60 yr old woman who hasn't ridden a bike since I was twelve. I bought a bike some yrs.ago, but never learned to ride it. Lee an Jordan were so nice to me, explaining things and getting my bike road worthy, and I just want to thank them so much for they're kindness and patience.

I highly recommend Recyclistas Bike Shop. Two times I rented a bike for me and my mother. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They also gave us great suggestions for our bike trip. Awesome experience!

I love this place. I got my first bike here 8 years ago when I moved to Victoria for school.

I got another bike 3 months ago and am super happy with it. The staff member helped me pick out the right one, and It's been a fun and reliable ride. The free tune-up within 3 months was an added bonus!

Super stoked with my experience overall!

What a great resource Victoria is so lucky to have! Where else can you learn to fix your own bike under the supervision of a friendly, helpful, multitasking mastered staff? So empowering to know how to take care of your ride!

Had some mechanical troubles 20 minutes on the Lochside trail. Lee was incredibly fast at coming to our aid and took a piece from his own bike to fix ours and he had to walk his bike back to the shop so we could continue on our ride.

Absolutely fantastic service. Jordan and Steve in particular have been integral to my cycling journey more times than I can count. I've worked on several different bikes under their guidance in the store, had them do some excellent work for me that was more complex, and have nothing but brilliant things to say. I can't recommend them highly enough for their straight-up kindness, competitive pricing, and the fantastic things they do for the community and the environment recycling so many parts and components.

Was great experience, super helpful, great learning, class size is perfect with 5 people to 1 instructor good ratio for them to get around and help everyone, price point is amazing $30 for 3 hours best money ive spend in awhile =).
Would high recommend

My son and I got so much out of the Saturday classes that helped us put our bike back together. There was a great balance of demonstrating, and getting us to do the steps ourselves. Very helpful and patient approach and we were thrilled with the results. Will definitely go back.
19 June 2019 20:46
Very knowledgeable and supportive staff. Also some of the most affordable parts in town plus a large selection of good used parts. I've taken three 3 hour classes; the first to build a wheel (which I did and it's the best wheel I own), the second to change rear cassette, bearings, chain, adjustments etc, the third to change cables and housing, straighten rear hanger. The classes involve everyone from first timers to experienced bike re-builders. They have all the tools and 1 dedicated staff person there to teach and help each person with their projects. How can you go wrong for $30.00 for 3 hours. Absolutely recommend it!

This is a great bike shop for self-supported cyclists to stop at.

It's ID #38 on the Bike Across Canada Route Network 'Approved Bicycle Shop' list
