Red Light Ramen

Omg the ramen and Dan Dan noodles were amazing. On top of this, I would bottle the restaurant's garlic chili sauce. I'd put that on anything!

It was a wonderful dinner! The Ramers are the best! Ask for Jade to serve U, she's the ONE!

I came to Red Light Ramen with high hopes and left frustrated and disappointed.

I ordered the mushroom steamed buns which arrived cold.

I also ordered the soba noodle salad, which was bland, and the vegetarian ramen, which also arrived on the tepid side. The texture of the ramen broth was more like gravy than broth.

But the worst part of the experience was the service. My server, a young woman with red hair who clearly would rather be elsewhere, ignored me the whole time I was there, not once checking in to see how anything was or even if I wanted another drink (and I was spending quite a lot for a single diner since I wanted leftovers).

All it takes is one employee to make an experience feel so disappointing, although the food also was not what I’d expected after having read so many good reviews. I would never come back or recommend this place; it seems like Nelson has a lot more to offer, and hopefully with a modicum of friendliness.

We had a great time checking out Red Light Ramen Bar. The food is decent and the staff were friendly. The drinks were really good. Definitely would recommend checking this spot out.

The lunch special is a decently priced and filling meal. The service is always stellar and such a cozy indoor space and enjoyable patio in the summers.

The Ramen is next level. Amazing ingredients. Yummy cocktails. This is my #1 Nelson craving. Only downside is the restaurant is small and often packed. They need an expansion!

Amazing ramen, filling portions, friendly staff, and great vibes! Sara was so welcoming we felt like we were nelson locals! I will definitely be visiting again next time I'm in town.

There is nothing traditional about this ramen, contrary to the owner's own description. The broth isn't miso, shio nor tonkotsu—I have no idea what it is. Ginger doesn't belong in ramen; it's a palate cleanser between sushi courses. The butternut squash makes no sense being in a bowl of ramen. The gyoza was impossibly both doughy, baked and half the size of gyoza I've had anywhere else but double the price. I am not sure what people in inland British Columbia think Japanese food is but the entire menu here is an affront. If you are looking for ramen please just visit another city.

The ramen noodles is not so authentic. The noodles used is similar to an instant packed noodles. The taste of the soup is not convincing delicious. More rooms for improvement. In the contrary, Gyoza is good.

My partner got the Tantan Pork Ramen, it was not spicy at all and asked for additional chili oil and that didn't do much. I got the Butternut Miso Pork Ramen, and while the flavors were good, both of our soups were luke warm once they arrived on the table.

Great spot, staff and flavourful food. Everything was great and reasonably priced. Can't wait to go back!

If you’d like you could just come get a piece of pork or an egg, even more delicious to get the whole ramen! Incredible

My favorite place to eat when I am in or going thru Nelson, thinking about it right now makes my mouth water.

Local hidden gem for sure! The service was amazing, and very knowledgeable staff. The handmade gyoza (pork and butternut) were delicious. The ramen were great as well - my partner had the pork with the butternut miso - and it was the standout. Lots of little suggestions in the menu - and our kids did love the Italian lemon soda! They even allowed our (well behaved) dog on the patio - which was appreciated. Highly recommend!

Atmosphere is very nice. Service was good. It is also female owned which I love. Pork Gyoza was very tasty and had a good sauce. Ramen was alright. The pork and egg were exceptional, however, as other reviews indicated, the broth fell flat. It had no depth of flavour. The cocktail list was very cool and the la Luna one was good. Overall I would come back for the gyoza and cocktails + atmosphere, but I wouldn’t get the ramen. For one cocktail, two beers, two bowls of ramen and one order of gyoza it cost $92 before tip.

Ramen lacked flavour. Wasn't given a menu. I don't go to restaurants to play on my phone. Snarky waitress. No thanks

Eating here will taint every future experience you have eating ramen. Once you have the best you can never go back.

We have ‘t had ramen before, so this was a treat for my manga-obsessed daughter. We loved the food - it was so flavourful. Will be visiting again when we’re back in Nelson.

It’s pricy for what it is, not the biggest fan of the ramen.the smoothie I had ($10) was pricy but was amazing.

Red Light Ramen was a positive experience. The staff were friendly, the vibes inside were fun and casual, but ultimately the product left me feeling a little underwhelmed. The Tan Tan (pork) broth was my main contention point; it didn't taste like a big enough step up from something that could be created at home. Seemed like it was missing a bit of the umami-driven healing that an excellent bowl of ramen should deliver. The ajitsuke tamago (egg) was great, and the pork tasted very nice, I just wished there was a little more of it for $17.

Got the tantan pork with the oat porter. Found that to be a great pair. Each bite was as amazing as the last, all the way to the last sip. Great work to everyone involved. Much love

Ordered the tan tan chicken and tan tan pork last night. Not only was it ready quickly but the broth was still super hot when I got it home. The flavors were absolutely fantastic, perfect balance between spice and savory yumminess. Best Ramen I have had in a very long time! Great job!

A fantastic experience.
Half of town was shut down due to 70cm of snow but these guys were open.
We had a table for 2 right by a wood fire.
The group beside us had skied and snowboarder down from uphill which is just so fun.
We had Raman, I had the pork with spiralized zucchini for noodles. Zucchini isn't a perfect substitute but I though I'd try it instead of rice noodles. My wife had the half pork broth, half yam broth with wheat noodles and it was delicious.
The atmosphere was cozy and relaxed.
The staff, very friendly and knew the product well.
They have a very good drink selection, wonderful cocktails and good beer selection.
The bathroom is clean.
We enjoyed the music they played.
They had good covid protocols.
I've only been once but I will go again on future visits to Nelson.

I always feel healthy and well nourished after having my favorite lunch special Try the 1/2 Pork Tantan Ramen & 1/2 Kale caesar, sub zucchini noodles to make it lighter! Great service, cosy atmosphere

Delicious! This place is *close* to being 5 stars. They need to work on the authenticity of the ramen - as it seems slightly confused. A little too much going on in each bowl. Here’s my suggestion - take it or leave it: pick a particular style of Japanese or Korean ramen and stick with it. Do it well. Replicate the real thing as close as you can. I will be back because it is tasty. Side note: I did have to spend quite a bit of time in the bathroom after dining here.

Food was excellent! Service was slow but friendly. Washroom needs update (especially the sink).

Best ramen I've ever had. We were in Nelson for a week and went to Red Light twice. Highly recommend the butternut miso pork ramen (and add Tantan!).

Damn! Best ramen I've ever had. Had the pork (non spicy) an amazingly flavorful piece of slow cooked pork, semisoft egg and other tings in a subtle yet flavorful broth (not too salty!). Fantastic

Ramen is getting better every year. Gyozas also fantastic and I'm a big fan of the smoothies. Price is a bit high but it's a solid meal well worth it.

My first experience here or any ramen restaurant for that matter. Let me tell you. AMAZING! The staff was very welcoming and the food was amazing. It seemed like there were 2 servers working and it was quite busy when we went and they did an amazing job! No one was left waiting or anything. Amazing team effort and very relaxing environment. I felt very at home and was very satisfied with everything. Prices were reasonable and portions were very generous! I cannot say enough good things about this place. The food was pretty meh, and there was flies buzzing around the restaurant, trying to get at the food, and landing in my water glass. The staff were friendly and quick with the food though.

Went for the raw oysters unfortunately its completely seasonal. Ended up getting food else where, but did stay for their cocktails. It was good, great name (corpse reviver), and great taste. The food I noticed coming out of the kitchen while waiting really did look spectacular, if you want Ramen. Great spot.

Absolutely amazing food!

I was unsure if I would be able to order anything due to a severe fish allergy but they were able to hold back the dashi in my dish. They made sure to let me know I would need to add some salt at home.

This was truly a unique take on Japanese ramen. It's clear that effort and love went into our meal. Absolutely worth a visit, especially if you are vegetarian or as I call it ethictarian. My only criticism is a personal one: the squash broth is thicker than I like but to each their own. Looking forward to my next meal here!

Came here late Saturday afternoon and it wasn’t too busy. Patio space was open and pretty with the timber beams. Shared a bowl of Tantan Pork, which they were able to split for us.

Ramen was okay. The broth was not that flavourful. Didn’t get any bone flavour from it other than a slight richness from the fat. Most of the flavour came from the Korean chilli oil, which was a little too heavy and overpowering. My friend’s bowl had even more chilli oil, which made it too spicy. I like that the veggies were locally sourced, but it was all raw and doesn’t really go well with ramen. It was refreshing in some ways. Should have cooked the enoki mushrooms at least. Chashu was good. Noodles had a good chew.

Also tried the Butternut Miso Pork. It was an interesting flavour. The butternut gives it a slight sweetness. Definitely more interesting than the Tantan broth, but the miso part was not a standout.

Overall, not bad. I’d come back if I was craving noods. Definitely didn’t expect to find ramen here, so this was a nice surprise.

Food is worth it. Unfortunately I can't say the same about the cocktails. I've visited three times and the drinks each time were a let down.

Not sure where to start. Best gyozas, wine, ramen, service. Awesome place with delicious food and super friendly staff, everyone needs some red light ramen in their life;)

Wonderful wonderful food. Such a treat with so many carefully thought out elements in my squash tofu ramen! Not to mention some delicious 7$ special cocktails!

Had amazing ramen here. Had the Tantan pork. Pork was cooked brilliantly and the broth is done proper. They make their own habanero hot sauce that was the perfect kick. Our server Lauren was very sweet and efficent. Needless to say this place is highly recommended. On par with some of my favorite ramen joints in Vancouver.

This place was pretty cool. Their menu is a twist on traditional ramen incorporating more local and seasonal ingredients which was great. However I felt that both ramens I tried really lacked the flavour and the umami you crave in a ramen. The egg could also have been better it was still cold and not gooey enough. In saying that the noodles were cooked perfect and so was the pork belly. The presentation was great and the atmosphere was relaxed. Not like a typical ramen shop where it is almost like fast food. Definitely try this place but if you're craving authentic ramen this place probably won't scratch your itch.

Waited over 25 min for food, was then told it would be ready in 2 minutes and then 2 minutes later I was told that our order ticket fell on the floor and that they would start making our food, very poor service and for a ramen only restaurant to not make in-house fresh ramen noodles is a poor excuse for a ramen restaurant. Will not return and don’t recommend people go here, there are several other better options in Nelson. I much prefer Yum Son

About a good as you can find, except in an authentic Japanese hole in the wall Reaturant, Greta food, great atmosphere

We stopped here for lunch on our way to the hot springs, I found the ramen soup (pork) to be really tasty, the pork was extremely tender and the broth was very decent, the noodles were a touch undercooked. My only complaint would have to be the dumplings, 10$ for 5 very small dumplings, props for being hand made but i felt the price and over all quality of the dumplings to be lacking.

Tons of options for all dietary needs. Gluten free, paleo, vegetarian, vegan, etc. Excellent service. Clean kitchen. Great menu with lots of variety for food and drinks.
