Recently visited. Service is not as great as it used to be. HUGE waiting gaps between dishes with no apologies. Additionally, dim sum prices are a huge rip off

Red Star has been serving quality dim sum reliably in the Marpole district for at least 20 years under multiple ownerships. What amazing is some of the staff has been there for just as long and they recognize their regular customers by name. The food quality remain strong. Restaurant is clean and upscale, service is friendly, and overall just a relaxing environment to enjoy some authentic Dim Sum.

Dim sum is tasty. $9.88 or dish. Service and taste spot on. I would get reservations. Some limited parking underneath.

One of my favorite restaurants in Vancouver. Food is always yummy. Fried tofu with mushrooms and choi sum is so delicious. Staff is friendly.

Went for Dim Sum and received amazing service.

Too many delicious items to get on one trip, so we will be back.

Dim sum was so good today that I forgot to take photos of many of them!

Service was decent, but not top notch for a restaurant that charges more than Tai Tung (Granville near 64th).

Parking is still free in underground garage, but less spots than before.

Dim sum pricing read from $5.xx for small to $9.xx for large, and more for special dim sum.

2022-10-07: first visit since pre-COVID-19. Aside from the BBQ Duck, everything else is either bland or not to our taste.

Service was very decent. Parking was not bad, not as full as other visits but we arrived before 12pm.

I'd go again to give them another chance.

Fantastic food, authentic food, happy and welcoming atmosphere, and everything was very well priced! Staff is kind and helpful, a great location to visit in Marpole!

NOT RECOMMENDED! EXTREMELY BAD ATTITUDE! Never going there again. We made reservation for two people, and we still had to wait there for at least 10min. But the worst part is the people who had no reservation and came behind us get to sit first. My mom went up and asked why, the lady at the front just yelled to us that they are her friends. (LITERALLY YELLING) the worst attitude I ever experienced in a restaurant!
Conclusion: you don’t need reservations, you just need to be friends with the employees:)

We went for dim sum lunch on weekend. Service was ok, but could be better. We ordered a 2.5lbs crab to celebrate the festival. It was good, but no promotion so ended up quite expensive.

We like the Granville Street Red Star more than the Richmond branch.

I haven’t sat in the restaurant for a while, been ordering takeout. What can I say, the food is always good. It’s a little pricy, but it really is delicious.

We parked on the street next to this restaurant which is free parking spot. The staff from this restaurant 50-60s years old man was watching our car. Later he came over to our car and threaded us not to park on the free parking spot which is not even inside of their property. We asked him what is the problem but he was just mouthing off something. We didn’t even try their food but we don t recommend all my friend to this restaurant because of this experience.

I went there today at about 5: 45pm and asked for a table for 4. The hostesses said rudely there is no table for the night if no reservation.

Fantastic food, delicious, incredibly prompt, polite and accurate service. More upscale Chinese restaurant, so is a bit more pricey than typical but definitely worth a trip or for brining visitors to Vancouver. Deep fried spicy fish is awesome, crispy fried chicken is wonderful, delicious fried rice. Everything was very good. Highly recommended and we will return!

Expensive and food is just average. Service is fine but if this restaurant is target for high end customers, they should provide a better service.

They want to give you a high-end feeling (also higher prices) but their food is really on a OK level, not really premium taste.

It's my first time to visit this restaurant here in Vancouver.

Total Rip-off - CNY Special Pot take-out dinner $268 for 6
We ordered the traditional Chinese New Year special seafood layered dinner advertised for 6 people at $268 per pot.

The pot was to include 6 portions each of abalone, oysters, scallops, fish balls, shrimp, chicken, pork, mushrooms, various vegetables. There were only 4 oysters and 2 scallops, super tiny morsels. The minuscule abalones were so tough it was hard to swallow. Total joke.the food was perhaps enough for 4 people. Aside from tiny portions and missing seafood, MSG kept us up all night lol

King crab 2-way, Peking duck 2-way, lobster, rock cod, all amazingly tasty and delicious. Michael, the head waiter, anticipated all our needs. It was the best Chinese feast I've had in years. Best of all, it was not my birthday. Make sure you're invited to one.

Ok food but poor parking instruction. It print on the wall when you exit the parking that you need to report your license plate number when you enter the restaurant but when you are inside the restaurant they ask you for the parking spot number on the floor!

Meeting up with friends we haven’t seen for a while is always great. Nothing like going for a banquet style dinner at a chinese food restaurant.

We started off with their Peking (Beijing) Duck and loved the crispiness of the skin. It seemed liked it was smallish but the flavour made up for it. Next up is one of my favourite vegetables. Pea sprouts! Simply blanched and then cooked with garlic, it’s sooooo good! Then the duck lettuce wrap is always a nice second part of the Peking Duck experience.

We also ordered what I call deep fried shrimp slathered in mayo and topped off with honey crusted walnuts. Might sound weird but the combo is delicious. Can’t have a meal without sweet & sour pork! And their seafood e-fu noodles in a hot pot was excellent. Loved that they had it in a hot pot which kept it hot even at the end of our meal:)

Whenever I want to take my parents for a nice meal, Red Star is a safe bet that it will deliver once again. Conveniently located in the Vancouver Westside, and plenty of parkings close-by, as well as an underground parkade. Food is decent but slightly more expensive due to the customer's willingness to pay in this area. Staffs are quite attentive, which we like a lot.

While it does not sweep us off our feet, it is a place we will continue to frequent. This is a 4.5 star review.

Excellent food, servers where very helpful and the restaurant was clean.what more can you ask for?

We ordered a whole roast pig for dinner last Friday. At least 2 days in advance is recommended for order of the roast pig. As the Resturant made the roast pig themselves, its still warm when served to the table. The skin was so crispy and the meat was tender. Very delicious

Red star is a high quality sit down Chinese restaurant with reliable and well done dim sum on the weekends, and excellent full blown Chinese dinner. It is always clean and bright and the staff are very responsive. There is parking for the restaurant in the underground. Dim sum includes both standard fare as well as special Red Star takes on the specialty. All of which are delicious, and hot and fresh. Value for money is good, but expect to pay for good food as well. Dim sum here is best experienced with a group so as to get the most variety of the large selection on the menu. Also weekends tend to be very busy, so come early. Dinner at Red Star is a reliable standard as well, with excellent seafood, duck, chicken and beef dishes, vegetarian, soups and stews, and a variety of chinese desserts to bring it together. I bring out of town guests here as it is a reliable place to showcase Vancouver's Chinese food quality. Likewise i would have no problems bringing business colleagues or anyone I'd like to impress to this shop; it's got you covered. Dinner is family style as like most Chinese places, and the servings are large, and price is moderate.

JAMES is a manager here. BEFORE the order arrived, I told JAMES that I ordered number 30 by mistake, and I actually wanted number 31. He said that he cannot change it, because it was my mistake and not theirs, despite that the order had not arrived. Then he started lecturing me that I should have asked him nicely and complained that the order would go to waste, even though it hasn't even arrived to my table. James 帮老板倒米。

This place used to be high price, high quality, high service. Now, it is just HIGH PRICE.

The dim sum dishes are all pretty good and what you'd hope to expect. The only item which wasn't great were the soup dumplings. Anything with shrimp or scallops was great though.

I have been here more than ten times, it was a really good place for dim sum. BUT it get worse now. Service is poor and food is pricy.

When we arrived and tell the waiter our name, he said he have put us in the waitlist. Then we wait here and found all the guests had seats even some people who arrived later than us. Then we noticed he forgot to put us in the waitlist.

No apologies, only told us ‘soon’. Then we kept waiting and watched other guests had seats.

NEVER COME BACK AGAIN. Really Disappointed. (Food is also not good as before)

Food is always good, service staff are super friendly each time I come here. Service is quick and everything tastes great. I recommend the BBQ duck pasteries!

Fantastic Cantonese restaurant in close proximity to airport with designated underground parking. Highly recommended!

High end restaurant with high end price, but okay food, except their roast or barbecue duck, which is excellent. One thing I hate is that when my guest and I discuss our order with the waiter, he didn't pay full attention, he was always looking around, but there are other waiters. As a result, one of our orders was wrong. Not too happy with the place.

Food was great, but for some reason they sever us one dish at a time, this is unusual for a Chinese restaurant. Oddly enough the people who came in after us had all their dishes arrive at once. Quite expensive overall but good flavors.

James, Restaurant Manager, is very attentive and made my family's dining experience most enjoyable by making available my favorite dessert dish that's not usually offered for dinner. Thank you James for making our dinner very memorable.

Great service when one considers the lot of customers there, we had a fantastic Dimsum and the variety was tops.

Not busy. Ordered to go at 6pm, told would be ready in 20 minutes. Now is 6: 52 still waiting. Never coming back.

Overall taste and presentation is pretty good, and seafood material quality are excellent, however the cooking skill seem lacking in some dishes. Pepper crab taste pretty good. Steam crab with eggwhite taste bland and eggwhite itself is too hard, seems like the cook forgot to add water or milk. Cold dish was not filet thin enough affected the taste experience, sorry to be picky but when you pay extra in a restaurant you do want to get the best experience.

Excellent quality of dim sum at very good price point. But even with reservation had to wait 30 minutes for table as they still relisted your name when you show up.

Went for Sunday dim sum. That was my first time there. We had a really large group and I have to say, the service was pretty good. It was extremely busy (as you might expect on a Sunday) so reservations are a must. It was really loud in the restaurant, which again is probably to be expected. But I found it obnoxiously loud, so only 4 stars. I would definitely recommend Red Star though food was top notch.

They serve very good traditional Cantonese cuisine and not Americanized Chinese food. Unlike some Chinese restaurants, this requires some expertise and knowledge to successfully order a menu that showcases the excellence of this restaurant. The service was excellent, plus they cater to large parties such as hosting two or more tables. Their winter melon soup was superb. The dessert was delicious. This is one of Vancouver's more pricey Chinese restaurants, but it is worth the money.

Ok food, got ignored for service and muscled for tip money at the end of the meal. I won’t be going back there again

Good dim sum but the restaurant is rather small which is a good sign of having to wait during peak din sum eating time. We arrived after 1pm and it was still quite busy.
