Regional Recycling Nanaimo - Hayes - Bottle Depot

One time, I was told to remove bottle tops. Last time, I was told I didn't need to. Other than that confusion, this is a typical bottle depot.

Shouldn’t have a limit on fuel containers - they limit to 2 per day, forcing you to drive multiple trips if you have more. Note the Provincial vouchers also are only $10, so you lose $ if you bring your old gas here instead of pouring down the drain. No jerry can is that cheap anymore. Often lineups that needlessly cost you time. Bottle deposits are simply wealth transfer you never asked for, you spend more driving there than you will get.

One of the better places to bring your recyclables. They aren't as strick here as the other one in south nanaimo.

Very rude. Brought a bunch of recyclable jugs in with the proper symbols on them and was refused. Told to bring them to the dump. What a horrible recycling system

The attendant questioned our count in the bags and refused some of them then pushed one bag back causing all 288 cans to spill out all over the floor. We were told by another customer she had been warned not to use this outlet by others that had issues as well.

I was there yesterday in the morning before 12noon. Very centre of the building middle check out. You're quick to respond to look good professionally as a business. But like I said this is not the 1st time with an issue here. But the fact that I was disabled and have issues walking and would not take my 2.5 flats. I looked at the young girl and said you have got be kidding. I dont need one. She refused.

Very unorganized bottle depot. I usually go to Victoria St one as the few times I have come here the staff have been VERY VERY petty. I walked in with 2.5 flats of empties and they refused my bottles. Why you ask? Because I did not have a cart. I did not require a cart for the small amount I had. Plus I am also disabled and they knew I was as one worker came out to check I had valid parking for handicapped. She was super friendly. There was about 8 to 10 of them just standing there talking to one another. Nobody offered to get me a cart. And she just stood there even after I put cart there. There has been two other insidenses here as well. They dont assist disabled and I will spend the extra gas and time from now on going to the complete opposite side of town to return my empties. Terrible.

It's a good place to go but it would be better if they provided containers made of plastic to sort your bottles, instead of those cardboard ones that are dirty and all different sizes.

I am happy to have a recycling place so close to where I live even then I still miss it and it's always at the most inoprotunee times.etc when we're cash strapped.

I always have a good experience with my mission to sort my bottles. I especially like the good customer service the staff had, especially the one guy with curly hair I think his name is Dorian. Him and Paul were very friendly. Good job team

Usually not to bad but closed with no notices on website and nothing on the phone message system.

Well it was quite the ordeal let me tell you. Firstly as soon as I pulled up, I was immediately accosted by a group of feral cats. I realized that my only hope was to channel my inner spirit dog and defend myself! The fight was hard, but after I subdued the lord of the cats the others dispersed quickly. After the battle I realized that I no longer had the energy to deal with my recycling and just gave my cans to a vagabond who witnessed the whole thing. Overall it was a five star experience and there aren't many of those free these days. I shall return!

Other than the rain, going fine til some guy shows up, all he did was yell around cussing at who ever was with him! Geez save it for home! Everyone doesn't need to hear your family problems.friendly staff kept the flow going tho.

Staff is generally pretty moody and can be rude. I'm not exactly expecting smiles every visit, especially considering I'm not paying them, but I've been to recycling depots in the interior and they've generally been more positive and friendly on average. But again I'm not paying them so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt.

Not helpful that they advertise a Drop-off service but when you go there they don't offer the service!

Always Friendly, Hard-working staff. They are very helpful and can answer All of your recycling questions. The main entrance is for returning cans, bottles, and Tetra Pak juice boxes. You can receive the deposit you paid when you purchased the items.
The Bottle Depot also.supports a different local charity every month, you can donate your cans and bottles to support them.
There are separate areas for different items. They accept plastic, glass, paper, cardboard, small and large appliances, styrofoam, batteries, electronics and more. The area have signage or you can ask any employee if you are unsure of where to take your recyclables.

Very rude. No wonder you need staff. No one wants to work with people who treat their customers so rudely.

If you go to their website it says they offer a "Fast Drop" service where you can simply drop off your recycling in response to Covid. I went there to try and use this service and was told Nanaimo doesn't offer it and I would have to go to parksville or ladysmith in order to drop off my recycling.

Generally speaking, it's a recycling depot. Not the cleanest, and nothing fancy or amazing is expected- but this place gets the job done. You can recycle practically every material.

Staff are usually helpful and polite. But the parking lot could use a repaving. Very rough paved area that makes your cart filled with bottles sound like a terrifying earthquake Plus your bottles get thrown everywhere while you try to roll your cart to the one more recently paved strip. It's actually almost comical?

There is a fancy new machine that gives you your cash, so that's fun!

Very unorganized and not a good practical place to have a recycling depot. I see why people don't want to recycle. Big thumbs down.

The friendly staff keep the bottle depot clean, but this location can regularly become overcrowded at times. That being said, it's still important to do our part in keeping the environment clean so even when it's busy, you can get in and out in 15 minutes.

I live in the north end so this location is convenient, however, I will be making the trip to the south end location from now on after the disrespect rude behavior I encountered. One worker would mumble a direction at me and then yell because I could hear him through his mask, when a another worker was asked about this we were told "oh hes just like that. " then without missing a beat she said I can refuse your service because for rude behavior. Well Lady. Shockingly thats the exact same thing I had an issue with, rude behaviour. DO NOT go here. Old victoria road is way better and treats the customers with respect.

I live in Parksville but go to bottle depot here the people here are so much friendlier and one girl I think her name is Alana she is great to deal with. I will go back there as much as possible

Would prefer zero stars. Very frustrated after being given totally different instructions on two separate events from the same person on beverage container returns and two different instructions for plastic bag recycling from two different people working side y side. Does any one there actually know what's going on?

I thought I was on a prank show, the staff here are unbelievably rude, I went to put cardboard boxes in the recycling thing and one of the guys told me that it was closed and it needed to be pressed down and one of the staff will come over and open up in a couple minutes and then a guy come over and sais in a snarky tone that "you can open it just fine" made my whole family uncomfortable I would highly suggest going to any other bottle depot besides this one!

The depot is well organized, and the staff is polite and efficient. We’re blessed to have a place like this for dealing with our recyclable materials.

This place has terrible service. First time here and there is no clear instructions on what they want. I was treated as an inconvenience because I had questions. I was treated with ZERO respect from the very start as if I was specifically trying to make the staff angry. They dont sort, count, or really do anything here. Sad compared to the service on the mainland.

I love going to this bottle depot because I when to this one with my big sister when I was 5 and I have bin going to this one for about 11 years know and I am soo happy because everyone is very nice and so helpful

First time there and the experience was terrible.the employees were unhelpful and acted like i was an inconvenience. I was trying to tell them it was my first time and i needed a bit of help with how we were supposed to arrange and organize things, but all i got was attitude.

The cleanest, most organized, easiest, friendly recycling place I have ever experienced and I have lived in many communities
