Robinson's Outdoor Store

Prior to my second trek in Nepal I wanted a top of the line trekking pants. My main concern was breathability. Staff sold me a $308 pair of pants that was not breathable and unsuitable. On my return the store manager gave me the run around. The head office informed me that the store manager has the authority to accept returns.
First the staff misrepresent their product, than the manager does not accept a return. Very disappointing.
I have great experiences with Robinson Outdoor store. Great staff and selection. I regret having stepped into Fjall Raven!

Terrible customer service, when asked about Black Friday sale I was totally insulted by Stevie. Left without spending a dime and dropped $600 else where.

Cameron was extremely helpful with bouldering shoes — really really appreciate the in-depth nerdy knowledge of all the shoes and how/what/why you’d want which for when.

Very few stores stock aggressive bouldering shoes in town, but they had all the full and 1/2 sizes in a bunch of options.

Coolest store downtown, best fly shop on the island, I buy all my fly gear from here.
Also Zack is amazing and super knowledgable of fishing & fly fishing!

We started shopping at Robinson's about 6 months ago. We went in when shopping for outdoor gear mostly to compare pricing and products. Our experience was always good, and products of good quality so we started exploring the store a bit more.

One afternoon I inquired about a backpacking pack. Staff offered to measure me and have me try a weighted backpack adjusted to my body. They also educated me on how to put it on and adjust it further, then sent me around the store. We had lots of shopping to do, so I carried the bag up and down the stairs a few times. Needless to say I was pretty confident of my choice after that! And the service wowed us!

We've been going back since, buying a lot of camping gear from them as well as hiking boots and all those items where getting knowledgeable help from staff is super helpful. Have not regretted a single time.

The place is fantastic. It has a wide range of outdoor gear and clothing from the most specialized to general outdoor wear at a high level of quality. The service is knowledgeable and excellent. One of the family who i imagine is part of the ownership of the store took time from her day to search for an item for my wife, she enthusiastically assisted my wife picking clothing for extreme weather who has great difficulty finding her size as she is quite petite. Highly recommend to stop by here if you are an experienced outdoors person or simply dabbling in weekend adventure. I see why they have been in business over 90 years.

Nice place, some products are literally about $10- 50 more than other outdoor stores.
A water bottle was 60 here where I could buy the same brand for 30 at a different store downtown.

Today I was searching to replace my hard to find (pandemic related?) light hikers with a new pair.
I was offered help on my way to the shoe section, explained what I was hoping to find, 10 minutes later I was headed out the door with my purchase. This place is awesome!

Cute world of adventures with a good variety of gear that is unique which is fun. They had super friendly staff and people. The store has a lot of outdoor hiking and camping gear with a nice sprinkle of fishing gear.

This place geared me up for the Finlayson 100. They have a very knowledgeable staff who are very easy to talk to and will take the time to help you find exactly what you need. Fantastic customer service and very knowledgable staff. I wasn’t sure about which backpack to buy. Staff took the time to explain the options, and loaded up two separate packs with the weight I would be caring so I could try them for comfort. Thanks for all the help. Money well spent!

Really good store. I've been twice now, once for climbing shoes, and once more for a harness. Both times I was helped out by a staff member within a minute, and they were all super helpful.

Both times I came here after going to mec first. At mec it took ages to find a staff member to help and they had less stock.

Only thing I would say is its hard to tell the staff from customers because they don't have a uniform. I do like that they don't have a uniform, probably much nicer for the staff, but something small to differentiate them would be nice.

Staff and manager went the extra mile helping me with my purchase of hiking shoes. One of the best service experiences I've ever had and far better than MEC.

The best service and helpful staff in Victoria for all outdoor gear! The staff is very knowledgeable and will put in the time to help you find what you need at the price point you are looking for. Cameron was super helpful with sizing backpacks and finding one that would work well for field work.

One of the best gear shops I’ve been in. Great selections. Make sure to visit upstairs and see all the tents on display. Loved the female presence working in a gear shop and just overall incredibly friendly staff. I didn’t end up buying anything but know I’ll be coming back every time I visit Victoria!

Very good and well stocked store where everyone chooses the right shoes with very good educated and friendly professionals/staff.

I listened to the staff's (with the age of wearing glasses) explanation and experienced the tent and cot yesterday, and came back to the store to buy it today.

Today, another employee chatted with his colleage while I was setting it up to make sure of it. If he had helped me with my work by asking me whether I had a pad, sleeping bag or an organizer of cot, I would have bought more. Because I'm a beginner at camping.

Being kind to customers every day is tiring, but I believe it is right to focus on customers while they are there.

Just came in to buy a sleeping bag. "Wacky Kathy" as her colleagues call her; was very friendly, informative, and helpful when helping me choose a sleeping bag. They let you try out all the products and can try on the sleeping bags in the showcase tents to get you into the camping experience. From walking into the door and leaving great service and friendly staff.

Love this store. Local, gives back to the community, and has everything I need. If you are visiting in person be sure to check the clearance section in the very top <3

Even after reading the reviews I was surprised by the frankly outstanding customer service. I was met at the door per their covid protocols before being let in, the staff in question took me right to where I needed to be and helped sort me out. Very efficient, very friendly.

I would give them a 7 if I could. Very seldom do I receive such knowledgeable and friendly service in a retail store that I contemplate giving them a tip. Do not hesitate to go there if you have questions. If you are a novice, they won't make you feel like it and if you are experienced they have the expertise. No pressure to buy, no pressure to hurry. Simply the best and this is coming from a guy who likes MEC and Atmosphere.

Really appreciate the fast and friendly service during these Covid times. I just purchased my second pair of Merrell hiking shoes, the assistant joked I was a “Moab Man” just like her Dad! Those little friendly comments make all the difference. Thanks guys.

They only carry high quality gear. I challenge you to find a gimmicky cheap piece of gear in the entire store.

I recently purchased a Gore-Tex jacket from Robinson’s, and was very impressed with the experience.

Good selection from a wide range of products, and product knowledge was exceptional. The buying experience was calm, helpful, and not at all pressured.

No question that Robinson’s will be my first stop in the future.

I went to Robinson’s on February 13th because I needed a new headlamp. A very kind man took me behind the counter and explained to me the various options between the two main brands (diamond brand and pretzel) Not only was he there for me every step of the way, he also made me feel confident in my choice. When I decided to browse the store, he also offered to keep my headlamp at the front for me which was a kind gesture.

Despite an early couple of subpar visits where I was ignored, I'm glad I gave Robinson's a third shake because it became my go to outdoor store.

The family that owns this place are the real kind of local ownership who believe in what they sell and who take the time to know their stuff. My wife and I kitted up for our biggest hikes in the last few years, and we've always felt that the service and knowledge from the staff, plus the quality of the items they sell more than justify the extra couple of bucks you might save trying to find the same thing online.

Tl;dr I love this store and even though I no longer live in Victoria, I'll still try to do all my shopping through them.

Excellent customer experience at Robinson’s today! Some other stores were closed on Canada Day so I was lucky to discover this Outdoor equipment gem. Really love the variety and range of products. Ended up buying a few items I needed. Harry the sales associate was super knowleadgeable and helpful! I wish they had a store on the mainland too.

Walked into Robinson's and immediately was welcomed by friendly, knowledgeable staff that guided me to exactly what I was looking for. I will be sure to return to Robinson's for all of my outdoor/camping needs from now on.

My favourite outdoor store in Victoria. A good selection of products and really knowledgeable staff. Fair pricing too - if the price is the same as MEC, you have no reason not to buy it at Robinson’s and support local. There’s a reason they’ve been in business over 40 years!
