I went to RONA Nanaimo store for a ceiling light. I found a light that has a tag said “reduced: was $224, now $168”. I feel like it’s a good deal. So I brought one to checkout. But the cashier said there is no discount for that one and another employee asked me where did I find the discount. I showed him the tag on the light. He said it should be the price for that display only (but there is nothing shown on the tag) and he would ask the cashier manager to see if we can get a discount because clearly it was a mistake and would confuse other customers. After he and the manager (a female employee) had a conversation, the manager went to us and said: “the price is for the display only, we sale it as it is. We can take the display down and sell to you if you want. ” We were not interested in the display, but the manager’s attitude is unforgivable. The tag was written and hanged by RONA’s employee and they should bear the responsibility that confused customers. However, the cashier manager, she did not apologize at all and use the tone that is very offensive. This lady really is not professional and not suitable to be a manager.
Later on I bought another two lights worth $400. But guess what, one of the light is too cheaply made. The instruction only has one page and the parts are too small and I couldn’t install it to my ceiling. When I went to return it, the customer service kiosk has no employee. And we saw that cashier manager was standing there, but no intend to help us. Finally one cashier came to help us after several minutes. But she examined the product again and again, and said she had to ask permission from her manager. Only after that cashier manager said yes, we finally got our money back. The whole return process took almost 10 minutes. How ridiculous is that.
Such a place has the worst customer service and low quality product. I will never spend a dime in RONA. I can get better service and better price in HOME DEPOT.
Their online inventory is almost always wrong. I've driven here countless times to buy something it says they have plenty of stock in online. Only to find out they don't have any. And employees don't offer much help besides just searching the item # and saying "oh ya. It says we have them in stock I don't know where they would be. " Super frustrating
Their lumberyard is an absolute mess. It is the worst in nanaimo. Nobody is there to help you find anything and if they are they give you an attitude if I could rate this negative 10 stars I would.
Lumber yard is really messy and hard to drive in. Just gets worse and worse over time. 3 times i have gone here for an item they says they carry on the website. 3 times shelf is empty where the item should be, for like weeks. Unlabeled items with employees who ask me to take it to the till bc the dont have a scanner on them. Some of the staff are just praying they were somewhere else and it shows when you ask a question. "Excuse me.do you know where blah blah item is? " Subtle eye roll point to a differ employee who tells me they are "probably" out, without even checking. I dont know why I even try this place anymore. Lowes (who owns rona), if you want it to die, then let it die. Or change it to a Lowes or w/e, just do something. We deserve better in the south end.
The people were really friendly and happy to ask to help…the downside of this situation can best be described as the blind leading the blind. All in all good vibes
Phoned the office to ask if they can rip boards. They said they can over the phone, but that was not true. Second, they were out of stock of 14'×2"×6" and would not sell a 16' for the same price. Very low stock of fasteners too. Just go to Home Depot and save the aggravation.
Super friendly Staff. Deb at the south end Nanaimo Rona was extremely helpful, walking me to where the hooks were and helping me choose the right style. Thanks Deb for making my shopping experience easy and pleasant!
First off.if I could only rate Debs service this review would have been a 5 star. If you have the chance to grab her she is amazingly helpful. The rest of the time service when (if) you can anyone is lacking at best. The poor girl working the till the other day had paged almost half a dozen times for someone to get us something off a high shelf and it took almost an hour. I've also dealt with rude employees, and been completely ignored. To reiterate, find Deb.
Supply chains have improved but you wouldn’t know it at this Rona where I keep finding them out of basic materials. Last time it was 60 minute tar paper, today it was any drill bit smaller than 3/8”. Staff are friendly.
Drove across town for a garden hose on clearance. Website said 4 in stock. But if people here don’t do their job they don’t update the numbers. So if there is less that 10 items don’t bother coming here because it will probably be sold out.
Tried to purchase online items but the system kept saying the order could not be completed. However the system did put a hold on the funds on my CC for 5 business days. Brutal system. No more Rona for me.
I submitted a list of materials for quotes to five suppliers around Nanaimo. Rona had the best prices. Their lumber was very good quality (no digging to the bottom of the pile for nice boards). Cliff at Contractor Sales was knowledgeable and helpful, and patient when I kept changing what I wanted. It was easy to find someone in the yard who could help, and they were all friendly. Good work, Rona!
Super friendly and helpful staff! We recently bought an air-conditioner and we mistakenly bought the wrong kind. The staff were all helpful, polite and professional helping us exchange the unit for one that works for us. And that despite the fact we did the exchange close to their closing time and after a long, hot and busy day. We are really sorry we came in so late but super grateful for all the help! All the other staff that we talked to were also really helpful and friendly. Will be going back for all my future hardware and home needs. Thank you!
Tried phoning in to order an item that was out of stock. The person who answered the phone just told me I'd have to come in to the store. Since I live over an hour away, that wasn't really an option for me, so he said I could order online instead, but the website won't let me because they don't have it in stock. The item I was trying to order was a floor fan, and they refused to order it without taking payment first. Totally unhelpful. I'll pay extra to get it elsewhere rather than deal with a place like this.
I sent my wife to Rona in Nanaimo Chase River in order to pick up a few supplies for my Sundeck. Particularly Sundeck lag bolts and plastic caps. I gave her samples to show the person working there so if they could match them. My wife said the man in the Contracting Department was generally snotty and unhelpful and he gave her the wrong bolts that did not have washers with them even though he had an example to look at. I had to make a special trip all the way across town from the North End in order to return the lag bolts. My other comment is that the parking lot is so full of lumber that it is almost inaccessible especially when there are big trucks they're delivering even more Lumber. It is too small too crowded and the people have a bad attitude
Excellent customer service, Al was super helpful and friendly. Prices were fine. The store had what I needed (metal brackets and drywall anchors). Some of the house plants in the garden centre were not looking so good, so I would recommend Canadian Tire for that instead.
My husband was working on our deck and sent me to pick up a few supplies. I used the Construction entrance for the plywood. The man I ask to help me seemed less than happy about assisting me. Kinda pointed to the screws etc and told me they were over there. I ask him a few questions about the right bolts for our deck that my husband said i should specifically ask for. I had to pull answers out of him. I felt like he snubbed me, because I was a woman and he didnt want to help me. I ended seaching for the items myself. I will just go to Lowes or Home Depot from now on.
Be nice if they stocked more than one BBQ during BBQ season.but maybe covid related.as low stock on everything from China seems to be the case. Maybe China should stop starting pandemics and stick to making everything for the free world.
Very helpful! I have no idea what I'm ever looking for in hardware stores but I was greeted when I entered and asked if I needed assistance, which I gladly took. Great experience, I will be back.
Don't waste your time no help at all ask a guy standing in the yard for help to cut rebar proceeds to shout and berate me saying no cuts no free cuts I say I've spent thousands here recently and have been getting rebar cut 2 too 3 times a week.refused to do it what an idiot literally lost 20k Reno for a dollar cut will never shop here again go to home depot rebar not heavily rusted and willing to cut to size without argument
Rona Nanaimo is a smaller hardware store. This store has an outdoor section for lumber and other building supplies. Getting assistance is not always easy.
Unbelievable! Now that they told me they are under new ownership, the plumbing and electrical shelf stock is finally reasonable! I have been amazed the last few trips. I used to avoid this place cuz they were always short one or two critical items every time l went there. This is not the case any longer. Kudos to whoever is managing inventory!
Usally my visits to Rona are great, however this time not so much. When asking simple pricing questions from 2 different employees, we were sadly given sharp and rude answers.
This is a terrible hardware store. There are no prices on most things and when you ask staff for the pricing they have no idea where to find any information. It is a super tiny store so their stock is limited and they have barely any selection. It was not busy at all when I went in but you have to hunt down a staff member of you need help. Also their inventory online does not correlate with what's in store so if you drive an hour to get there you may be disappointed.
I'd like to rate this store better than 2 stars, but I can't justify it.
This Rona is fine if you don't need assistance with your purchase and you're looking for a really common, high volume item or if you're fine having to order something and wait a week or so.
One issue is it's a really small store (for a Rona) and so it has pretty limited inventory. It's the nearest building centre to me, so I go there semi-regularly. I can't tell you how often I've gone to this Rona, couldn't find what I wanted and wound up driving 20 minutes to the far end of town to go to Home Depot.
The other issue is that the store is pretty understaffed. If you need to ask an employee a question, be prepared to wander around for 5 minutes looking for someone (beyond the one person at customer service who is usually busy).
That said, the staff are always very approachable and helpful. The store is clean and there is always lots of parking. I do not dislike this store, it just doesn't work for my needs as often as I'd like.
Out of stock on common items. Cashier tried to double charge me for one item and I had to show her my receipt that I had already paid for it. She also charged me the wrong price for another despite asking me 3 times what size lumber I was buying. Every time I go it's a hassle.
The store wasn't busy but there was a line up and 2 other cashiers just stood there. Finally they opened up another till when the line up was almost gone. There was one fellow helping everyone else in the store. He was doing a great job.
Customer service has gone up 10 fold recently. I ordered some stuff online in February 2020 & it took months for it to come in & no follow up. Last week (January 2021) I had lots of in store assistance.
Didn't have the item I was looking for but the lady I was speaking to went out of her way to try to find somewhere that did. Excellent customer service.
Im not one to post a review from only going in a store once and having 1 bad experience. I live near rona so i go often. However 3 out of four times i leave frustrated and go to canadian tire across town. They never have the products that are on the website that say "In stock nanaimo" its doesn't even have a spot on the shelf. I just left empty handed because it says 3 DIFFERENT products or in store but not a one even has a spot dedicated to it. Lets ignore that as a "younger" (36) male i get completely ignored by the staff even when asking for help.
Its apprently impossible for them to EVER pick up a phone. I've tried calling multiple times over the course of a year. Never once have they EVER answered their phone
It's RONA. All good products. Help was available for me to find the right screws from the huge selection in aisle 23! Be prepared to walk and follow arrows as aisles are blocked for traffic flow in certain places. Not always convenient, but they are following safety measures.
We ordered a gate at the beginning of June. It was to be at the store for pick up mid-July. We had to go to the store to make the order, as it could not be ordered online. August 25th today, I called to see what the delay was. I was told that they cannot order that item. Only the second time at this location and both brutal. No Covid excuses for stupid. Now I have to return to the store to get my money back onto my card. Very Poor service! They get one star for hiring local people.
