Roots Modern Health Food

Roots is my favourite place to eat! The staff are sooo sweet, environment is clean, and the food is phenomenal my favourite bowl is the “southern bowl” you need to try the “go green smoothie” so refreshing for one of these hot summer days.

Overpriced and not that great.
I remember when this place first opened in town, it used to have a great atmosphere. Now I realize it's the same owners as the burger place next door and unfortunately their quality has gone way down hill.
We ordered 2 smoothies the other day and they're about $9 each which is a complete rip off if you ask me.
The chocolate one was nice but the orange one was full of CHUNKS which is the opposite of what a SMOOTHIE should be. Could make a better one at home for a fraction of the price! For what they are charging you'd think they'd invest in a good quality blender so they can actually do it right!
Also, no music playing inside the place which gives it a weird vibe.

I’ve been to this restaurant once before, a few years ago, and it was great. Unfortunately not this time. Expensive, slow service (restaurant empty) food was stale and my bread was moldy.: (Definitely great potential though!

I partied for five days straight with a bunch of wooks and then had a healthy tofu bowl here. It cured me of my newly acquired brain damage and now I feel like John wick. Thanks roots modern health food!

Terrible service this place used to be the best. The new owners ruined an amazing restaurant after coming here for years I will never come back here again.

Not a vegan, but the most satisfying and delicious food. After a hard day work helps me feel rejuvenated

Very disappointed, my wife and I waited for 40 minutes for 2 paninis and a frozen smoothie. There were customers in before us very frustrated and we should have clued in but we took the chance. This was one of our favourite places for lunch and unfortunately after reading other posters reviews it gone down hill with new management. No plans on returning. Try somewhere else.

Big portions, great price!

We came here after Shambhala as well, and to see if his food to give us life would be an understatement. They were out of sweet potatoes but subbed chicken for no extra charge! The BBQ tempeh bowl was my fave!

This place USED to be amazing. Seems like a whole new operation. Still worth trying. Good location, good layout, and nice outdoor patio space. Unfortunately now there is a lot of room for improvement. Overpriced for lower quality food which does not taste fresh, organic or wholesome. Different menu, but same name. One of my orders was incomplete. Food is served in disposable containers and takes longer than expected. There is no compost or recycling available. Walls are bare and renovated restaurant space lacks character overall. TVs are overwhelming. At the time is this review, website is not up to date. Worth trying once to make your own conclusions and share feedback so they can improve effectively.

Checked out after new ownership. Very disappointed that there were only take out containers for table service. Should be able to have a choice of real plates, cutlery, for eating inside. Not a pleasant dining experience.

Good food! Wish they gave more tofu/tempeh in the dishes though. They’ve forgotten to add things in sometimes on my online orders. & Sometimes orders can take awhile because they are usually low staff. Still recommend!

I miss a lot of the previous menu items and find some of the similar items are not of the same quality, value, nor flavour. They may want to update their name as many of the new items are not healthy and the buffalo mac and cheese is not real food, it is extremly processed and I would be scared to read what the ingredients are in the so called cheese sauce. The frozen hot chocolate is still decent.

Manpreet exhibited wonderful service and food quality delivery. Delicious wrap and smoothie. Grateful to have such a wonderful healthy option in Castlegar. 10/10

Used to be better and food was cooked quicker. Seems like a change in ownership and staff. Took an hour to get food for four people and the quality was lower than it used to be. Hope they resolve the issues soon. Will try again and add more stars if better.

Very cozy atmosphere, friendly employees and fast service. The food is also delicious. Here’s the extra stars I wish I could give this place, to make it a full 10/10.

The mushrooms soup and the heart beet juice were amazing. Akriti is fantastic employee! The service is great.

3 stars because the food and bevvies are quite tasty. Service however. We ordered online and waited the 30 minutes. Went to pick up and was told our online order had only come in a few minutes ago so nothing was made. So we had to wait almost an hour for four drinks and a sandwich. The drinks were pretty tasty but not worth that kind of wait/experience.

Yum, so delicious! Friendly staff, nice interior, outdoor seating with umbrellas.

Multiple kombucha options, tons of smoothies and juices. BBQ plant burger was excellent, as was the broccoli pepper soup, and the blueberry kombucha.

Very reasonably priced especially for veg/plant based food, $20 for burger, soup, and pint of kombucha.

The blackbean torta may very well be the best thing I have ever put in my mouth. This is a must stop in while in Castlegar, will definitely be back next time I am driving through!

Small but very friendly place. My family and I were very happy to stop here for lunch on our way to Osooyos. Food is excellent, tastes good and fresh. I had the poke bowl with tofu. I normally don't like tofu, but I loved this one. My kids loved the burrito and quesadillas. Oh, the kombucha, tastes so good, so much better than the supermarket ones. Thanks for a great experience.

Placed an online order at 8: 57 for pick up at 9: 30.
I arrived at 9: 30 to be told that staff didn’t show up and the guy asked me to wait 15 more minutes.
From the time the store opened at nine until 930 I receive no phone call telling me that my food wouldn’t be ready and I had an appointment to get to so I could not wait 15 more minutes.
Poor service

Really good food!
Went here for the first time and was really impressed with the Reuben but I fell in love with the charged frozen hot chocolate
Very nice break from what seems like only pub food options in Castlegar.
