The medical care I received from the doctors and nurses was okay. The hospital itself is very very dirty, the emergency area was very crowded and awful and there was zero privacy or confidentiality while in emergency, everyone can hear the drs and nurses talking to other patients. The bathrooms in emergency were filthy with urine and vomit all over the floor, the nurse called to have it cleaned and 3 hours later it still hadn't been cleaned. The ward I stayed in was also filthy dirty, everyone in my room was recovering from major surgery and we were all at risk of infection due to the lack of cleanliness. This was very concerning.
06 January 2024 11:29
Extremely disrespectful, unaccommodating, and foul nurses.i came to the ER for a serious infection, and every nurse underplayed my condition and made me feel like i was crazy, only to be diagnosed with a severe infection that could have resulted in my arm being amputated.extremely disappointing, and i will avoid this place like the plague
04 November 2023 21:55
Was pleasantly surprised at the high level of care I received during my stay. Thank you to everyone that has helped me recover; in one way or another. You guys are awesome.

What does an emergency means
It is not emergency if u hv to wait for a doctor for more than 5 hours

October 12th, 2023
Time 6: 00 pm Thursday!
Department NICU
Named Jessica! She is very rude! Doesnt know how to behave and talk. Maybe before putting her there to take care the babies, she needs some medications and needs to avoid her poor attitude and ego! You gotta respect the parents Jessica! The zero tolerance for violence goes for parents as well as the employees at Royal Columbia Hospital! I dont feel safe when she is around my baby at the hospital! The management needs to take action with what she did! I will be contacting the Management and the Manager named Teresa.
03 October 2023 19:29
My wife and I just had our baby here and everything went great! We're deeply grateful for the work of all the hospital staff. Thank you so so much for your kindness, patience and help!
26 September 2023 13:38
I wish I could give 5 strat because of her but there are too many cases that left because they were not helped that if I could leave feedback with 0 star I would.
I was having a nausea for 3 days and I could not retain any water. I spoke with 811 and with symptoms they advised me to either call an ambulance or go to nearest hospital.
That brought me to Royal Columbia. And good heavens do i have a feedback! Yes, I give 5 start to Simar. The 5 star IS NOT FOR DRs or nurses of the hospital. It's for Simar security guard that showed humanity. I passed out right infront of Dr's and nurses when I beg them for help. They didn't care much!
We are in BC. Who doesn't know the low quality of these hospitals? ! It doesn't matter where, it is the same show everywhere. Long waiting hours. No properly controlling the area. No lie down space for people are fainting of pain. SIMAR changed my perspective so much.
She brought water's, napkins, offered help. We need angels like her. Thank you Simar. I wish your colleagues could be this helpful.
Some stuff is easy to take care but they force people to stay on a line. If it's emergency WHY DONT YOU TAKE CARE OF PEOPLE? Have more staff! Train them! Or bring in from other countries it's so disappointing to see such a low quality in Canadian hospitals specifically in BC VANCOUVER.

I wish I could put 0 stars on this hospital. I got back surgery done on Thursday, and the surgeon was amazing, but the nurses were horrible. They were very rude and wouldn't give me enough pain medication even though I was getting very dizzy from it. Then on Saturday they kicked me out of my room because they needed it so I had to stay in the hallway and I felt very uncomfortable because it was very busy there. They were very rude and unhelpful throughout the whole situation. When I decided to leave the hospital, they wouldn't give me my prescription to get my medicine to make me stay they. They told me if I leave they wouldn't give me the prescription unless I stayed in the hospital. I didn't want to stay because i was feeling very uncomfortable because so many people kept walking past me, and I felt like I had no privacy and I was in a lot of pain. One of the nurses even encouraged me to report the head nurse. She told me that they're only kicking me out of the room because someone else wanted a semi private room, and they wanted to charge that person too. I wanted a private room, but they said they didn't have any open rooms. My wife walked around the section we were in and saw multiple open rooms with no one in them when I got out of surgery. They also wouldn't bring the food to my bed even though I told them I couldn't carry anything heavy at all because my doctor told me not to carry anything over 3lbs.
29 August 2023 20:45
I was admitted to the 3rd floor north I had my surgery. The nursing staff were amazing not with me but everybody I witnessed how caring and the compassion they had with the clients and staff you are truly angels thank you for everything you did for me

Lvl 1 trauma hospital. Love all the staff that work here.

Everyone in healthcare is very overworked and burnt out and I admire my fellow healthcare workers who are pushing through. Some days are harder than others but they’re here for patient care and that’s what RCH provides.
24 July 2023 23:58
I've never ever been in hospital that I was so disappointed by there's care for patients till this one Royal Columbia. Unless it's only because I'm First Nation's. They tend to ignore me, refused to give medication i needed at the time, and don't answer the call bell. I feel like I was nothing but a burden to them like they have more serious patients to tend too but last time I check I was still a patient as well regardless of the type of care I require.since I've been here they have blown 4 or 5 iv lines by quickly and forcefully pushing medication through a bad iv. Even after I repeatedly state it burns and hurts.

Tonight the one Nurse refused to listen to me till my iv actually started pushing blood back out. She than got another nurse to come in to remove the iv line and when she did there was a huge hard welt underneath my skin where the iv once was as long as my index finger and about 2-3 cm wide.

Instead of making me feel comfortable during my time here they made me feel awful for even being here to begin with.

When I first arrived it was serious than everything settled down and was back to normal for me medical wise. They removed me from the labour delivery floor to the maternity floor and than that's when I just became to feel like a nuisance to them and started to feel mistreated by a majority of the staff on this floor.

But there were a few decent and kind staff members that I encountered during my stay.

I don't ever wanna be shipped to the hospital again.
08 July 2023 14:29
I was driven here after saying I wanted to kill myself. Sassy nurse kept mocking me and making fun of me, calling me "sally downse" and I didn't get the joke (I'm severely autistic, btw). All they did was take my blood, force me in a little room for 10 hours, made me talk to a temporary nurse, wrongly diagnosed me with schizo (i actually had BPD this whole time).
Honestly, I would have been better off offing myself than going here.
11 February 2023 13:06
Had Dr Wong perform a major vale replacement and repair. The entire staff were amazing including support staff. One special shoot out to Dean on 2 south that made me smile who always went thr extra mile
02 February 2023 22:55
It's a good hospitals. The doctor and nurses who served me when I went there for an internal procedure were great! Everything was smooth and professional.
I thank for their good services.

Our recent trip to maternity emergency in Ridge Meadows Hospital has resulted in us being transferred to Royal Columbian Hospital due to RMH lacking the equipment (NICU) to deal with a possible premature labour.

It was almost midnight and my wife was transferred by the ambulance from RMH to RCH and she was admitted to the maternity ward right away. What I don't understand though is why she was placed with all the labouring pregnant women. We're trying to prevent her from labouring but all the more she got stressed out because of all the labouring noises from the nearby beds. It was not until after 12 hours till we were transferred to a private room where my wife was monitored.

Overall, the experience was okay. The staff that assisted us were generally friendly, respectful and assuring. The hospital is a bit older and for the most part it's under renovation. With regards to parking, I had to pay twice for $16.50 (lost ticket) for 12 hours of parking due to their ticketing machine not working and so I never got any parking ticket. Quite expensive I would say. Food in the cafeteria has limited choices and very expensive while the food provided to patients is bland like usual hospital food I guess.

If we're given a choice, we would prefer Ridge Meadows Hospital and Surrey Memorial Hospital over Royal Columbian Hospital.
10 January 2023 6:36
Was a patient at RCH from Oct 7-17 and stayed in 4 South. Cannot say enough kind words about all the staff, who went above and beyond during my stay. Amazing nurses and doctors. Thank you for everything you do.
05 January 2023 7:34
I visited the emergency here end of 2021.
I have had bloody diarrhea and stomach pain for 12 hours.
I was suffering from severe abdominal pain and waited for 3 hours but all I got was that Dr. Lyan accused me and pushed me to take the Covid-19 vaccine.
In the dark room, the doctor brought his face closer and glare at me and said I just don't understand how dangerous Covid is, he took a booster and he will give shots to his children, so I must take vaccines too.
I told him that “I will think about it, but I need some treatment now”.
Dr told me I could take Tylenol or Advil and he just left. He was in the treatment room only for a few minutes.
I went to the hallway and asked him what the diagnosis was. He said that I probably have Norovirus. I researched the Norovirus on the medical information website and different doctors stated it doesn’t give us bloody stool.
I couldn’t even take a stool exam so how could he diagnose me I had Norovirus?
I called 811 and the nurse said that what the doctor did to me was wrong and that I have to go to another emergency immediately.
I was shocked I was neglected by an emergency doctor because of my vaccine status.
27 December 2022 20:25
To the nurse lacking compassion and demanding a patient with brain cancer unable to walk or stand, I told you " I will sue you if something happens to him because you don't know how to communicate. You suppose to care for all patients. If you would have ask nicely and explain the need for the wheel chair due to shortage I probably comply with your mean request: you don't come and demand you sir need to move there. You don't know what he is there for, nobody enjoys spending time in emergency rooms! Royal Columbia hospital I suggest you train your staff how to communicate better!
But then I want to thank to the kind and caring nurse who saw us using the urinal in an open space and got us a screen for privacy. Thank you to Romina and the male nurse working with her I watched you for hours and you do work hard! For you three I would give you five!
09 December 2022 15:26
I gave birth to my son here. The maternity unit is excellent and each RN that came to help me was kind, extremely caring and knowledgeable.
30 November 2022 20:08
Went to the emergency 2 times in the last 3 weeks for different reasons. They treated me very well. Last time (yesterday) had a small surgery on my upper back, the doctor was so kind and friendly. Can't remember her name, but thanks a lot if you are reading this.
31 October 2022 4:44
Spent a couple of days at the pediatric unit with my little one. All staff were kind and supportive. A special thank you to the night shift nurses!
27 October 2022 6:24
Terrible care in the maternity ward. Got "missed" for a private room somehow. People across from us in semi private had nurses check on them regularly. We were constantly forgotten. They were allowed more visitors for some reason even though they turned away my babies grand parents 20minutes before I had to go wait outside while they visited. Asked nurses several times if my wife can shower with no response until I went to the nurses desk same with if she can have her IV removed. We seemed to just be second class to the rest.
27 October 2022 3:53
ER doctor had excellent bedside manner and listened with compassion and concern. Some of the nurses felt like they had been stretched thin but they were still caring. They lost track of where they had asked me to sit initially and then called me to find me.
18 October 2022 7:21
Amazing hospital, amazing staff, amazing care. I have had MANY experiences at this hospital ranging from absolutely wonderful (having babies here) to tragic sad ones (hard goodbyes). Every time I have had to come to this hospital as a patient OR a visitor I am put at ease knowing the best care possible is being given to me and my loved ones. I cannot say enough for the staff here as they are simply amazing, compassionate professionals. Top notch.
17 October 2022 13:46
I can’t even begin to scratch the surface of all the horrors me and my loved ones were victims of at this hospital. The senior Internal Medicine doctors were incredible. Residents varied drastically, especially on weekends. Nurses too varied. Few nurses were incredibly apt, kind and empathetic, but many were dismissive and negligent, I know short staffing played a large role in this. The care aids were incredibly kind and empathetic when the doctors and nurses were not. Many of the health care professionals were happy to respond to your medical questions with “I’m not the right person to ask, ” or “that’s not up to me, ” and you never really could find the right person to ask the right question to. When your case captures the interest of an Internist your care and diagnosing out the problem are paramount. When the weekend comes your care and well-being are placed on the back burner. When you’re dying and palliative you’re left to languish and suffer for the ineptitude of the residents and nurses. When you combine the two (weekend + palliative) you can guarantee your medical treatment will suffer. I cannot believe how poor communication is between doctors/nurses and patients/family members. They need to do better. Palliative training is a must for these healthcare professionals. I hope that no one I know ever has to experience the horrific experiences we did, that being said, I hope that no one I know ever has to be hospitalized in 6 North.
22 September 2022 21:28
It was awful I do not know why a country and British Columbia in first world do not have enough doctor I waited there 3 times more than 6hours and no body was not to visit also in this covid there is not safe place for wating patients this is a big problem for this city we pay many tax but we do not have medical care.
17 September 2022 11:49
Zero stars. I have extensive medical issues and this is by far the absolute worst hospital to deal with. Among the many issues I’ve had here, the worst was when I was refused for emergency with pneumonia in February 2020 when my GP wrote a file indicating that I needed to be admitted for IV therapy due to my autoimmune disorder and allergies to antibiotics. They refused to admit me. The nurse at emerg said “we don’t do that here. ” I went to Eagle Ridge Hospital the same day, was admitted, and placed on out patient IV therapy for two weeks, without question. The doctors there were disgusted that RCH turned me away. If my lung infection wasn’t treated, it would have turned to sepsis. Last time I went there in Summer 2021 for treatment of another infection, the Asian doctor in emerg prescribed me an antibiotic I am anaphylactic to after I told him I was allergic to it and would like a different course of treatment. He told me to “try it and see if you tolerate it. If you have a reaction, come back. We aren’t spending resources on IV therapy when this can be treated with oral antibiotics. You have an epipen, use that if needed, then come back. ” If I die, I can’t come back, but yes, let’s play Russian roulette with my life. Tonight, I went in for x-rays. The clerk told me they “don’t do walk-ins” yet their website advertises 24/7 x-ray service and my rheumatologist told me to go here outside of business hours as it would be less busy. There was no one waiting. She said that emerg was busy so it would be a long wait. I asked how many were in the queue ahead of me. She said no one, but emerg was busy so it could get busy for them. She said she could book me an appointment for later on. I asked to have one booked for tomorrow and she said she couldn’t do that, but I could call the phone number she provided. I called, and the same female answered the phone. She told me they only make booking calls after 9: 30am. This hospital is so dysfunctional and the staff aren’t the least bit helpful. Glad my tax dollars pay for subpar work ethic and refusal of service.
07 September 2022 2:12
Clean.clear lines on the ground to take you where you need to go.the place couldn't run if it wasn't for all the people working their.thank you for taking care of my mom
07 September 2022 0:42
Emergency room wait depends on the number of people in there but in my 3 visits, the wait has been about an hour to get in to see a doctor. Staff has been friendly and quick about registration and the doctors were thorough and considerate.
07 September 2022 0:06
The doctors of this hospital are very good and treat us very well but the nurses of this hospital are very harsh they didn’t treat my mother well until she scream but still didn’t get the full recovery. The hospital should be responsible for the staff behaviour. We went for ct scan after they called us and when we went there they said we don’t have orthopedist and send us home next day we called and they said that it’s the building next to the hospital and mom still didn’t get treatment for her fractured arm it’s been 4 days. Very bad experience. My sister is sick we got into accident and the nurse get mean with my sister she is punjabi and speaks hindi, that’s very rude. I don’t recommend this hospital to anyone. Hospital should be responsible for consequences for their nurses behaviour. I don’t want to give even one star but it won’t be post.
18 August 2022 15:06
I have been to most of the hospitals in the lower mainland…. The cafeteria here is by far the worst of any. Everything you order there is disgusting.
Also I have never seen a cleaning person in the cafeteria.
Often see people not wearing a mask and nobody is enforcing the rules.
13 August 2022 21:48
Anything u go here for I'm sure they will send u home after a 6 8 hr wait tell u take Tylenol and advil pretty famous for that. I got broken tailbone and that's what they told me. I could be a Dr tell everyone just take Tylenol and advil right easy lol
31 July 2022 22:54
Today my friend had a MRI but when she arrived to the hospital the 7: 15, she took the number.after 10 minutes at 7: 33 secretary asked her to come to filled out documents, then secretary asked her to seat down and after I will ask your name for MRI, but after while she said you came to late you had to be here at 7 fir MRI, my friend said But you asked me 15 minutes before you have to be here, and I was there in 7: 15. But the security said go we can not accept you for MRI, you came too late, but she wasn’t late. That wasn’t fair. Because she had 1 emergency letters from her specialist and family dr, that her case is in rush.
01 July 2022 12:15
Aside from the three hours and counting wait, I witnessed a very worried husband ask if there was anything they could do for his pregnant wife that was bleeding from her stomach, their response was to give him two pads of gauze. Questionable service.
30 June 2022 11:43
My girlfriend and I had to stop in here a little while and every nurse was immaculate. Listened to her, treated her and addressed all our questions. We were worried no one would take her seriously but she was treated with nothing but respect. We did have quite a wait in the ER but aside from that all the staff were amazing.
02 June 2022 14:50
Horrible experience here, long waits, messy organization by staff, 2 waiting rooms so if you get called but you are in the wrong waiting room you get skipped. Nurses and doctors are not in the same loop. Doctors are good, nurses need more training and should go back to school for 5 years. Middle eastern lady with red bandana rude as I was standing there stretching and looking her direction, told me to stare at the wall and not at her.
18 April 2022 9:06
Breast Imaging dept is immaculate and staff is very thorough. I went for 2nd call back mammogram at which point was booked 1 week later for stereotactic biopsy. Biopsy procedure was explained clearly by nurse then explained again by Dr. They gave details every step of the way thru biopsy, held my hand and made me feel safe. These women should be so proud of their work. I hope my daughters grow to be incredible professionals like them. I should mention, no side effects after biopsy because they did such a great job.
07 April 2022 13:59
Swollen nymph nodes, a badly infected/sore throat, a surging heartbeat (185 bpm at rest), congested nose, and a sudden onset of anxiety. Hmmmm.what could it be?

A) An allergy
B) Anxiety disorder
C) Bacterial Infection
D) Unknown Phenomenon

My friend who is a doctor traveled 6000 kms to examine me. Within 2 minutes she diagnosed me with a bad bacterial infection and began treatment. Before, RCH saw me twice and both times they neglected to physically examine me. They suggested I could have suddenly developed an allergy, an anxiety disorder or maybe it was an unknown syndrome. COVID19 is scary and probably more scary to medical professionals who witnessed the deaths from it first hand. But they shouldn't allow their fear to neglect their duty. Proper examinations is EVERYTHING. If you visit this hospital be sure they examine you physically - don't allow them to skip that part.
03 April 2022 6:33
I pulled a shoulder muscle at work and came to this hospital to get it checked out. They first offered me pain killers and when I refused they asked me “why you came here than”. They do not check patients for injuries and just give them medicine. I don’t recommend getting medical service in the lower mainland because the staff in these places are not properly trained.
01 April 2022 21:42
Thank you Wendy Bowles and the Amazing team that looked after my brother Pedro 3North and Mental Health. Wendy you make a difference and are wonderful at your job. From Maria and family God bless you all.
29 March 2022 20:55
Ive been to this hospital multiple times in the past years, While my at emergency dept varies, Ive had nothing but good experience with the imaging department, especially the MRI dept, the MRI techs were angels and made the whole experience stress free.
29 March 2022 7:58
I had very sad experience at ER.
Met very arogant inpatient reception staff. I totally understand about it very busy waiting time is long.understand.but to provide infomation for patient who visit for the first time is one of their job I believe. Otherwise AI will take over their position anytime soon.
This is not review for doctor and nurse there.not securitystaff.it for reception staff at ER
27 March 2022 7:50
They always take the time out to talk with there patients and like you go into very much in depth when having a conversation.
26 March 2022 8:29
I love the way that the staff of this Hospital treat my family.
First my wife realized that she was COVID positive and they give us all the attention that we need during the last days of pregnancy.
The Doctors? And everyone here have some words to help you or at least hear you.
That’s something that is very rare to find in this times.
The Procedure that they had with my wife and my first baby was the best that I could expect.
Even the way that they have to include father in the birth was universal.
And for the last the way they treat us during all the time we were there was the best.
100% recomended, I couldn’t have a better experience.
Thanks Royal Columbian
From the bottom of my heart ️
06 March 2022 21:48
Worst hospital and worst treatment and when I ask Rosa May you plz tell me I how long it take because we are 3 waiting inside exam area she was so rude supposed Before hiring, you learn how to respect and deal with patients. I was waiting 5 h
20 February 2022 6:43
Clutching your chest? Can't breathe? Don't go here.worst protocols and diagnostics of any ER I have even seen.what is wrong with you? Did your docs even go to school? No patient history or physical exam for a 100% physical issue.waste of your time.go anywhere else.
01 January 2022 19:11
Whatever the reason don’t come here. So busy, unorganized, take you a long time for everything. I’m a dr my self in my country, but that’s not how I treat my patient in emergency room. I have my gallbladder stone pain (that time I didn’t know what it was, they didn’t know either). They think it’s appendicitis, I said I had appendictomy before. And the site of pain is so different, appendicitis is down right abdomen. My pain was right upper abdomen, I said it’s probably from my gallbladder. And they still think it’s an UTI, oh my. I don’t even have a pee problem. 4 hours in pain waiting, glad I bring my painkillers. My liver function was elevated, but they didn’t tell me anything. Just go ultrasound they said and told me to leave. After that I go to walk in doctor and she refer me to surgeon because my stone is big and impact my daily activity (hurt after meal, I can’t go to the gym anymore) and I need to do MRI for my liver.
31 December 2021 19:16
Why is every hospital the lower mainland absolutely garbage psych ward discharges people after wasting their time for two months and locks people in seclusion for no reason
19 December 2021 16:38
Worst hospital ever, bunch of quacks
Always misdiagnosing people, rude and unfriendly staff. Stay far away
26 November 2021 16:19
The screening at the door was impeccable. The nursing staff and physicians on 6N provided such good care to my family member. Simply amazing. So grateful for their care.
08 October 2021 15:54
If you don't mind waiting half a day in pain just to have someone simply acknowledge your existence and then wait the rest of the day to recieve service. Then this is the place for you. Productivity and efficiency obviously are not important to the staff here, as Facebook tends to steal the staffs attention away from the patients. I'm here today on a Thursday night, bleeding from the ears and there are only 2 doctors in the ER. They hire 3 staff members to sit in the lobby all day and hand out masks but can only schedule 2 doctors in the ER. Whomever does the scheduling here should be fired! I think the worst part of the experience at this hospital is that despite ridiculous wait times, the staff like to make joke at the patients about the wait times. They arnt ashamed of their inefficiency, they are proud of it.
02 October 2021 8:15
My entire family has been visiting this hospital for years, even gave birth here. Props to the staff that work long and hard hours, but based on our experience for serious matters, they were uncaring, there is no urgency for serious conditions. It seems they dont know how to prioritize and take care of drunks and druggies first. My birthing experience was nothing short of horrific. They were EXTREMLY rude and looked inconvenienced as i approached check in, ready to burst. Ended up with and emerency c-section after they realized well over 24 hours of pushing that he wasnt coming out! I was a high risk pregnancy and they had young intern care for me! My epidural wore off on one side because of her lack of attention. She was nice but had NO clue. Anyway, I can go on and on. But they already took up a lot of my time sitting and waiting around when i took my son in. So good luck to all. BTW Shocked that they even have 3.3 stars
20 September 2021 20:57
Hit and Miss for sure. You better have good health insurance, or your treatment may not be what you're expecting.
I have been through a lot here over the years.what I have witnessed is unbelievable cover ups. It's not all staff
Certain ones definitely need reviews.
I can't believe what they are getting away with.shocking
18 September 2021 15:38
The best and most professional staff and surgeons, amazing life saving if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be able to give this review.
I owe my life to the immediate response to all involved in the cardiac Emergency, ICU and ward 2 South.
I had many Angels in Royal Columbian Hospital New west looking over me.
Good bless you all for the great work and compassion that you give us all.
27 August 2021 19:53
They are running a scam. I went in to emergency with pain, I've an established history of kidney stones, the doctor told me she didn't want to order ultrasound because of insurance companies, she did finally when she couldn't explain my pain and the written report is so vague that it raised a red alert with other doctors that I've seen in US and India. She (a Dr. Miller) discharged me saying it COULD be stones they are not seeing in the ultrasound. This is a scam establishment. I spent 8 hours in emergency with only a urine and blood test, and what looks like a scam-ultrasound.
23 August 2021 1:00
ER needs to be updated.in 2021, ceilings in some rooms are collapsing, doors and walls are peeled off. I'm not talking about patients, doctors and nurses who work with patients, I think it is morally difficult to be in such conditions.
I wish the toilets were cleaned and washed more often. Very dirty.
Also, the hospital has lack of the good management compared to VGH and Children's & women's hospital. In ER they can forget about you, although there are several patients in the department, and you sit waiting for several hours. Although, in general, the doctors and nurses in the ER are good and try to help you. The feeling that there is no organization of departments in general. It all depends on the shift. I would say a lot of organizational disorder in general. Hence the problems often. I would recommend the experience of women's hospitals - there is organization and order as in the army.
21 August 2021 6:15
Wiber and Singh family send their THANK YOU and best wishes to surgeon, Doctor Lee, all the nurses and care givers on North Unit, 3rd Floor for your kind and endless loving care to Deo Singh during her recovery.
16 August 2021 6:17
Hospital is like 500 years old and falling apart. Hospitals across Canada are so advanced expect ones in BC. Time to update this hospital with the lasted technology and kiosks for the main entrance. Get with the times!
15 August 2021 21:38
This is not a hospital that helps preserve health or aid patients. The ER is a complete joke and the doctors are clueless. We’ve seen several doctors here and each time the service has been ridiculously poor. We had a nurse give my pregnant wife the results of another pregnant ladies lab work indicating a pending miscarriage. This blatant breach of confidentiality and sheer lack of remorse on the nurse’s end shows the degree to which the staff here run things. Canadian Health Care at its finest.
27 July 2021 4:08
The staff at this hospital is always lovely, and they all have wonderful bedside manner when you do need to come in. If you have to deal with the neurology department, however, you should definitely be taking a forward approach with your care. The first time I was told that I would be called to make an appointment, I waited three months. After I tried calling and finally got through, the receptionist in neurology could not even find my referral, which is why I never received an initial call I would assume. I am now going to have to call again to make another appointment though the neurologist told me that someone would be calling me to make a follow up appointment. I'm not sure if there is adequate communication between the neurology department and the neurologists in the hospital, but it has been a frustrating spot in my attempts to get treatment. If you have to deal with neurology, please take your care into your own hands and call the office if you do not hear from them instead of waiting; you'll probably wait forever.

Bad experience Dr Hassanain Toma at the Neurology department from the start to finish, arrogant and not respectful, and most importantly he shouldn't be working as an MD. Unethical.
I was reluctant to post this review until one of the staff I wanted to talk to and complain about him she has also confirmed that I'm not the first one. Avoid this Dr at all cost.
Also I read from other review platforms when he was practicing in USA his incompetence led to death of a patient. Clearly he moved to my home town from USA to mask his failure.

This review is for Lisa in the ER (brown hair, registers nurse) - on June 27 Lisa showed incredibly warm, positive support in her treatment of my significant other's health issue. She really instilled a feeling of comfort within both of us during a very stressful situation. Thank you Lisa for your wonderful help!

My wife had an appointment with Dr Tara Cessford for her blood pressure problem in the care clinic. Dr Tara was gentle, professional and patient to her. A few tests were prescribed and hopefully the results are good.

If you don’t have medical insurance/msp, need surgery and must pay out of your own pocket do yourself a favour.buy yourself a plane ticket to another country like Thailand for example and get surgery done there for way less money. I got my Appendix surgically removed for 5,000 CAD.

The "new" process of streaming in the emergency room seems to mean, make people sit in chairs when they are waiting for emergency appendectomy surgery. Recovery nurses were great only reasons there's a more than one star. Doctors there need some more training in bedside manner and follow up procedures.

Edit: our ER doctor was great, Dr Yong.

My husband was brought by medi-vac after an accident and they took wonderful care of him and our family. They were compassionate, thorough and I’m deeply grateful.

BIG THANK YOU! To all ER stuff and Dr. Brendan Wood for helping me out with an excruciating abdomen/bladder pain. Most helpful and professional despite HUGE lineup. Thank you again, forever grateful, Mark E.

So we are waiting at the er and this dr lady calls some womans name and the woman falls down on the floor as she gets up to go see the dr. The nurse/drs reaction was "its ok let her fall" and she just walked away. This is such a terrible behavior from a medical personel

What type of hospital loses a urine sample? Royal Columbian Hospital does! Didn't even inform me of their mistake, instead i had to ask 4 hours later.
Some of the nurses, (yellow zone) are very agitated and impatient with sick people. Have some epathy and sympathy for people. If you don't have those 2 things, you need to choose another profession!

Worst experience in an Emergency hospital. Felt like a number. I hardly ever go to hospitals anymore as I don’t believe in wasting there time. I was recommended to go there. But I am not well. I know my own body and I don’t feel right. Pain and inflammation, pins and needles tingling thoughout my body even my head throbbing ear and sinuses pain throughout my face and jaw and more things are happening as well. I am generally healthy but not recently. My doctor is closed. I wouldn’t have went but I am not well. The doctor and nurse looked at me like why are you here. I went there to get help and was treated poorly did blood tests but doctor didn’t say anything just said your fine you need to see your Gp. Didn’t care just a number. I realize there are more critical patients than me but I came there to get answers and didn’t get help at all. Rude ER doctor. Never will go back there.

Waited 3 hours for pretty much nothing. Have patients sitting and standing all over the building as the nurses just stand around and chat. The front counter was also super rude like all she wants is to get off her shift. Horrible experience

There are at least a dozen other patients here in Emergency waiting rooms and the nurses are just laughing and relaxing as if they are on their break. They could at least pretend to care about patients and check up on them as they wait literally hours for their care. If a patient died waiting for help, the staff would only know if another patient told them! If i could give -5 stars I would.

I was stabbed 6 times, oncein the back, three times in the leg, once in the arm, and once in the lung (both collapsed).

Without the outstanding work of the doctors and nurses of the trauma unit, I would not be here today.

I owe them my life, I will be forever grateful.

I'm a Doula and just went to help a mom to be during the childbirth. I've been in different hospitals in the lower mainland and this is the best experience I've had. Specifically I want to mention Dr. J. Chow in the Obstetric area. She has been the most respectful and knowledgeable professional I've ever worked with. It is rare to see a doctor with so much respect for the woman and her rhythm to bring a baby to this world.

The Emergecy felt Kinda dindgy and wait times were rediculas. Arrived about 5am didn't get processed for at least an hour.waiting room was empty.
It took 2hrs for a Doctor to read a CAT scan report he had in his hand.which was questionable as it didn't feel the scan was complete.
We found nurses laughing at patients behind their backs too. Cancer victim in pain - ha ha.
Waste of 8 hrs we'll never get back.
Just another number in a bingo bucket.

My husband needed to be air lifted out of Mexico because his kidneys shut down and he was at death's door. I chose RCH and I'm so glad I did. He was in critical care for a few days and I can't thank the staff enough for everything that they have done for him. I sincerely believe that had he had gone anywhere else he would have died. Dr. Carpanito and all the staff in ICU never took their eyes off Ron who was in dire straits. You have all given me back my husband and you deserve to be praised over and over again. Lana and Dave you went over and above the call of duty. There were so many people in ICU that cared for my husband and I'm sorry if I don't remember all the names. I haven't a simple complaint. I was constantly in awe of these professionals and their empathy and perfection in all they do. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Wonderful human beings. Makes this world a brighter place. Best hospital in the Lower Mainland! From Linda Sleight Foster and Ron Foster

I don’t do a lot of revues and it's usually a good ones and once in a while a bad one. I had to and I wanted to wright this one. On February 28/18 my mother was admitted to Royal Columbian she was going for the heart surgery. Why it came to this, why her health was so neglected it's another story. The reception wasn’t really clear and didn't even made an effort to explain properly where to go and how to get where she needed to be. Also some of the stuff was just rude. Not everyone was unprofessional lots of good people but some folks should not work there. I had to ask for everything from information to basic staff for my mother’s comfort. Some people would say stuff like “hospital staff are very tired and they deal with a lot of crap”, I get it. But when you work in environment where care and courtesy required. Those people that you care for life at stake and you behave like you work at the factory or butcher shop! Than this work is not for you! And if someone doesn't agree, then I hope it will happen to your close ones so that you can feel like I did. My mom went truth the surgery on March 1 everything went good. She was pushed out of the hospital March 9 and in the morning March 17 she died. Its life, nothing I could do, everyone says it faith. I don’t blame everybody but just want to share my experience and Royal Columbian was sucks! There was few people I remember that was really good I wish only best to them. Doctor was just like factory manager. And Kerren skinny grey haired “nurse“ should not work there! Parking it's just a rubbery! Some stuff rude or become aggressive as soon as they hear accent. Lost all confidence in our Health system.

Where can I park my car for 3 days in this hospital? When I'm browsing it and I saw there has parking for 17cad/day but I didn't know where is it. Because I'll birth my baby in this hospital. Please info. Thanks before.

The doctors are good there but the wait time is way much more than you can expect. Other than that i was satisfied how they took care of me.

New Westminster hospital emergency department is by far my favorite emergency hospital among all the hospitals in Vancouver area. Two thumbs up!
17 February 2019 18:52
I was pleasantly surprised, the staff was very friendly and caring
Yes the wait is one of the longest, but may be if people stop coming to emerg as if it was a walking clinic.

May be educating public better would help
Thank you to ALL the staff, u were wonderful

I don’t even know where to begin. Only positive I can say is that the emergency / triage nurses are good at their jobs. Horrible experience in hau. My father was suffocating and he was constantly ignored In HAU until they realized he was in fact needing intubation, after several days of them telling him “ he’s fine”. When he needed a tracheostomy, the medical team hit an important vessel that resulted into bleeding into his lungs several times. They had to send him to vgh and thank god they did, once he was in vghs hands everything was under control and even looking better. Do not bring your loved one here if they are critically ill.

The wait here can and will surpass 6 hours. The nurses and doctors are wonderful and professional but they're working 10+ hours. Essentially, this hospital seems to be super under staffed. I always come here and it's only been getting worse. They did a renovation to the triage/check in and only made it smaller.the ladies at the front were super rude this time and spent more time laughing with each other than helping the patients. I couldn't walk due to my medical emergency and had to sit on the floor for 4h before a chair was free, I then had to wait 2 hours to get blood tests done, and another 1h to see a doctor, then another 1h to be told what is wrong. IF YOU ARE NOT HAVING AN EMERGENCY DO NOT GO TO A HOSPITAL. IF YOU HAVE A SMALL TUMMY ACHE OR LITTLE JIMMY GOT A PAPER CUT, DON'T GO TO A HOSPITAL. IF SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH YOU AND YOU "JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE" DON'T GO TO A HOSPITAL. HOSPITALS ARE FOR EMERGENCIES. While there are many different services provided in hospitals, don't go to ER unless you absolutely have to. Also DON'T YELL OR THROW THINGS AT THE NURSES.
