87 year old mother suffering from dementia was treated for a UTI - and then KICKED OUT of the hospital - with a threat to call security if we didn’t put her in a cab. She couldn’t walk unassisted and had nowhere safe to go. Did. Not. Care.

Edit: the following week I received a positive blood test for lupus, which I've had symptoms of for 10+ years but was never checked for. The experience I describe below should be considered malpractice.

I went to the ER yesterday. I've been in excruciating pain for over a month. I was treated by the doctor like human garbage, worse than the drug addicted flailing about in their seats. Insulted, demeaned, was not allowed to speak, had my spirituality written off as useless, told it was all in my head, chided for wasting their time and that I needed therapy. (I have a counsellor and am trained in psychology for offering recovery facilitation btw) I was accused of issuing threats simply for saying I'd been contemplating suicide due to the pain.
I understand an have compassion for the situations the staff work in, and they were all lovely except for the doctor who could have easily triggered a relapse or worse. Change professions! This is unacceptable

Both times when I’ve been to the Emergency Room I felt a genuine level of empathy and concern from the people who helped me, which I really appreciate

Amazing staff at the Emergency on Oct 6. Friendly, patient and professional. MD on duty was fabulous!

I accompanied my partner to ER Tuesday October 10 about 2PM. The waiting room was well monitored and attended. Initially I was not able to be with him when he awaited and received an ECG.but a soon as there was adequate space, I was invited to join him, and remained with him until ambulance admissions crowded me out, quite appropriately. Close to an hour later I was once again able to be with him as he underwent electronic treatment to regulate his heart. The attending physician, Dr. Thompson, the nurses and assorted technicians were incredibly thoughtful in addressing our questions, and helping us grasp
matter that brought us there. Please extend thanks to them for the considerate care given to (James} Ray Webber, and me, his partner, Mary Louise Meadow. We were back home for dinner!

Incredible level of service from the entire staff we met. My wife fractured both kneecaps, fibula in her left leg and shoulder in a fall on the sidewalk. Within 2 minutes she had an off duty EMT and ER doctor walking down the street to tend to her until the ambulance arrived less than 10 minutes after she fell. Do to the non life threatening injuries we opted to life flight her back to Oregon for surgery. But for 3 days we were treated like royalty from the CNA's to the RNs to the ER staff. Beautiful facilities at Royal Jubilee and they have created a great culture for those blessed to work there. We will never forget the level of care she received and we were blessed to have accidently landed at Royal Jubilee. They can say what they want about Canadian health care here in the US but we found it to be excellent care. And when we got home something we never get from a hospital in the US was a total itemized bill for services which we never see in the US. God Bless all of you at Royal Jubilee and keep up the great work. Thanks a million: Brent and Barbara McLean Eugene, Oregon

Following a “mishap” while shopping my wife required emergency treatment for an injured arm. The ED was extremely busy but our experience was excellent. Marisa, the triage nurse, was kind, professional and efficient. She provided immediate pain medication and an ice pack so my wife could be more comfortable. An X-ray was completed immediately and a long wait followed. This was totally understandable because of the many patients but all staff were doing their very best to provide aid. Dr. Brennan and nurses were fantastic. We all need to advocate for more support for our health care workers and facilities.

Very clean hospital, very nice staff considering what the have to deal with everyday. Yes it takes a long time in emergency but that's understandable. They were friendly and kind and that's what matters.

I went in a week ago. The man at the front, John took such good care of me. I was all alone, but it didn’t feel that way because of him. He also recommended that I read a book…. Turns out the book is beautiful and exactly what I needed (healing our wounded hearts by Olivia Hahn). Thank you, John.

The Emergency Department (Nurses and Doctors) especially the triage nurse was very helpful and compassionate. Yes you may wait for long hours but we do understand that they are short staffed and the number of patients were too many. You can see they are doing their best to assist everyone.

For Operators who answers the the RJH hotline on the other hand needs to be more compassionate and respectful. I have talk to one operator today August 12 around 5 25 pm, she’s rude cutting me off, not letting me explain or ask questions and she’s sounded so irritated to do here job totally the opposite of the kind Nurses and Doctors in hospital. The reception or operator said even if I was patient at their ER Department my concerns are not their concerns anymore. When I called back in RJH hotline after couple of hrs someone answered who knows how to listen and help and cleared my concerns.

It's a very busy hospital, but I have greatly appreciated what the understaffed doctors and nurses have done here for both myself and friends alike. Very greatful for all the hard-work they do.

Securiy sucks they let people and paitents smoke pot and crack and ciq's and the security does nothing at all on grounds. This is really bad when you pick up and drop off there is no excuse for this at all!

Staff tries the bear they can with the resources available, although I've had some questionable doctors.
Privatization?

Mistreat patients in the psychward especially in the bottom floor where you can't use the phone staff can be rude and they lock you in your room which didn't happen to me but happened to others and they with no surprise force you to take pills or you get injected this is nothing new either they do it to anybody with very little reasoning and I asked to get my heart checked cause it felt like hot garbage for weeks on end plaque in my heart and they simply just wouldn't do it, it seems the health system isn't helping you but whatever helps them

The morning preop people were all kind and helpful, then as my time at the hospital went on, the treatment and peoples work declined. They acted friendly but weren't. I had to have my legs wrapped so I wasnt mobile. When taken off to use bathroom, i tried explaining to the nurse that my feet are sensitive and her first comment was, i can just say you refused. I repeated my concern and she seemed to hear this time. Then she went to check my wraps from surgery but didnt open the snaps on my gowns so was.pulling and it hurt she got annoyed that I said so. I had to stay the night and at about 1 30 am asked for my meds, I got them about 430am. I was disappointed to hear a nurse or careaide complaing in thr hall about their job and no time to do it, although they had time to stand around and complain. Then when I finally got yo go home, i heard a nurse arguing with a patient and yelling at them, asking why they were behaving that way. Not very professional and not well trained. Im thankful for the good service but the latrr is not something I ever want to experience again

This hospital Is using my wife's pain (8 extra strength ibuprofen a day) over extended months of time as a diagnostic heuristic in order to avoid giving medical care and spend the money on investigative diagnostics. We've had multiple 8 hour visits that lead to nothing more than communication and anti-inflammatory shots.

I was in Royal Jubilee for only one night, following hip surgery. I must say that every doctor, nurse and other professional I interacted with were excellent, professional, and friendly. I was in the newer wing, on the 7th floor and it was spotless and comfortable room, with en suite. Food was good and tasty. I am very happy with the service there.

I brought my wife in for a follow-up ultrasound as she is pregnant with our second child. Prior to coming in we asked several times if we could bring our son in the exam room with us, and each time we were told that it is up to the technician. When it was my wife's turn to go in for her exam, we asked again and the technician bluntly said that children are not allowed in the examination room.

Had we known this beforehand, we would have left our son in my mom's care. Being that English is not my wife's primary language, it is critical that I join her for these exams as she will be told things during the exam that she simply will not understand.

The lack of clear communication is deplorable and is a huge disservice to the patients you serve. Am extremely disappointed that I was barred from joining my wife, not only for communicative support, but also as this is an important follow-up that allows us know the gender of the child she is carrying. Very poor service.

Yes, I didn’t sign up, it’s true, but I had an attack early in the morning, and I came here at 11 am and sat at the reception until 3 pm, they took me to my room and asked me to undress, and I’m waiting for 1: 30 here very Cold. Apart from bad words, I don’t have good words in my language, I’m just in a wild amazement, and no one cares that something hurts you, they could offer painkillers to drink. For the first time I meet such an attitude in Canada, although I have been in many others and this is not the case.

They Killed my Father … He said to the Doctor “I wouldn’t be in this position if you put the port in for Dialysis? ! Doctor says “you’ve had a good life! So what they can choose to shorten your life? The doctor lacked Empathy.they can face malpractice suits for killing people!
Horrible what he went through.

It was a very bad experience. The staff at the front desk of the CT department have a very bad attitude towards patients. I have stroke symptoms. My family doctor ordered an emergency checklist. The family doctor told me that the CT department opens at 6: 30, no appointment is required, just queue up, and check in at the front desk at 6: 40 in the morning. When I walked to the waiting area, there was only one patient in front of me. A few patients came, and the later patients all left after the examination, and they haven't called me yet. At this time, I went to ask the front desk. It was another staff at the front desk who helped me check my name information, and told me that the information had just been transferred in. Why was my information withheld? I don’t understand why there is discrimination. I am doing an emergency inspection. This is fatal.

Love the hard working nurses at Jubilee! Much love to our healthcare support staff also! All medical workers in Canada need to be paid better than our US counterparts if we want universal healthcare to be a success.

On Friday, April 7 2023 I brought my wife to the ER at Royal Jubilee. We were holidaying in Victoria and she was having difficulty breathing. The care and treatment she received was excellent. The ER staff were simply amazing. The ER was quite busy, however the staff were compassionate and efficiently attended to everyone's needs (and a few bad attitudes). To the Royal Jubilee ER staff, you have our lasting gratitude and respect. Thank you!

Just got my eye opperated on (cataract surgery). Reception at the door was warm and enthusiastic; staff was kind and comforting; process was smooth and professional.
