I had the most dreamy experience visiting Royal Roads this past week, while vacationing on the island. Everything about it is magical! The flowers, the trees. The rushing water and ponds. All with a view of the Pacific Ocean. I highly recommend everyone see the nature & history this beautiful place offers.

We took the tour of the Castle at the school. The tour guide was very informative and gave us lots of really interesting info. But for $50 I expected to be able to take my time looking at all the artifacts and tour more of the castle during the guided tour. It was a bit of a disappointment.

I would suggest more than 50 minutes for the tour and allow the paying customers time to see what they came for.

I visited hatley Castle, and so I thought of entering to see the campus as well. It's definitely one of the most beautiful campuses in BC.

There are peacocks wandering the areas, plus you get to see the hatley castle and a pier is also near.

Beautiful campus with some of the best views on the island, but quite literally one of the sleaziest colleges I have ever dealt with. The Board of Directors should be ashamed of the amount of extortion they commit on students. Lazy, extortionate, and downright awful. At least it looks nice though, right?

My son ran in the BC Highschool cross country championships here. Great venue, great vista's, great competion.

Very pretty gardens which are free to view. Also have guided tours but the day we arrived these were not offered due to a private event. It would be helpful to have closures posted on the website.

Nice grounds, there was a wedding in the gardens so we didn't get to see that, we'll have to return during the summer so we can take a tour inside. I didn't know the X-Men Xavier house was on the island! It'd be fun to need out one day, dressed up for a mini battle?

Beautiful grounds and trails open to the public. Gorgeous shoreline at the bird sanctuary. You'll recognize the castle from the X-Men films as well.

The university has very unique legislation, the Royal Roads Act. The purposes of the university are
(a) to offer certificate, diploma and degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels in solely the applied and professional fields,
(b) to provide continuing education in response to the needs of the local community, and
(c) to maintain teaching excellence and research activities that support the university's programs in response to the labour market needs of British Columbia.
These purposes signal a unique approach to the role of universities in society.

The school is also intentionally un-ranked and this promotes a shift in the relationship with the “ivory tower”. The approach at RRU can feel like radical departure from the traditional academic benefits and limitations. For example there is a different balance point for students than what you might expect at a typical university. The remote nature of the university allows for students to study in their own communities but also creates a fairly lean student governance / social club system. It’s a different approach to the student experience.

While designed for the working professional to really make the most of the access to instructors, industry leaders and libraries I recommend that new student consider budgeting some capacity so you can enjoy the journey. The structure at RRU really benefits the “get out what you put in” mentality.
I found I was in a position to make my student experience unique and transformative one. I graduated in 2022 with a masters degree and found it to be rewarding. The course work was challenging in terms of depth and variety. I found thesis process was very rigorous and pushed for community action and iteration on the learning - a game changer for me. I benefited from learning in the mixed cohort, community/sector, instructor model and it was neat see people putting learning into practice in real-time, across different professional contexts. There is lots that I appreciated things that could certainly improve but overall I recommend studying here if you looking for a life.changing experience.

The MBA is a great program. The staff and faculty have this down to an art and being a part of their passion feels like a gift and an honour. And who doesn't like having a Castle by the ocean on their campus? !?

Such a beautiful building and campus with a gorgeous walking area around it and view of the ocean.

Just wrapped up the Graduate Certificate in Executive Coaching 6 day residency and had a fantastic experience. Loved the feel of the campus, Hatley Castle and of course the Beautiful Peacocks. Lots of space to walk and reflect on readings and learnings. Overall a great experience!

The absolute worst University experience I could have had. I feel robbed of my tuition money. I transferred from Ontario and regret it greatly. The Island is beautiful and there are plenty of friends to meet; but if you want value and merit from your education, then I suggest UVIC or Camosun. Graduate programs are apparently okay, but undergraduate business programs are laughable.

The campus may be beautiful but the teaching standard is very very low. You will have to deal with professors who have equal business experience to the students. Its hard to be inspired at school when you know that your professor has hardly done any work outside of teaching, there is nothing valuable to gain. The projects and assignments lack purpose and the teaching style is dry, outdated and monotonous. They pride themselves as having a progressive style of teaching that avoids "slide clicking" but that couldn't be more of what they do. Miss a class? That's fine, click through the slide deck in 15 minutes and be fully caught up.

The resources were useless; things like team coaching and group work will eat up your time. There is a huge mismatch of talent that caused the groups to suffer from poor performers and piggy backers. Sounds harsh but its the reality.

A large portion of the cohort left after 1 year. I stopped doing their projects after while, and left.

Beautiful school, it's a shame that they have certain programs that are like this. Thought I'd give my experience as others didn't bother, sorry Royal Roads.

Food for thought.

I have only just begun my RRU journey, and there is no going back. An amazing place for established professionals to continue learning and take brave new steps.

It's a beautiful building and surrounding grounds. But our timing was bad since there was very few flowers and also we were limited as to what we could tour because of a wedding.

This University is a kind of business especially in the section of application fee. They charge 120 cad initially for the application fee and some days after again ask for 120 cad in the name of so called credential evaluation fee. Even many good ranked universities don't charge for credential evaluation, but they charge for this even though their ranking is very poor (around 2500 in the world). Application fee from the foreigners is their biggest income, so please think many times before applying as you will have to pay around 240 cad for the this application process. Their response is also very poor, they took around 4 months to inform my application result.

Spent just over an hour hiking around the grounds today. It really is a magical place, huge trees, waterfalls, beautiful gardens, a castle.

It is a fairytale place. We hiked along the water and over to the new development on the south east side. The trails are well maintained and you can choose your adventure, if you want steep and slopey or flat and meandering.

Great place for the dog to get out too. There was way more there to explore, it is a large property on the edge of Esquimalt Lagoon. It has some old growth forest that has been preserved it is kind a hidden gem really.

Some of the new building are near to look at too.

My experience with this school and the Master of Arts in Leadership is nothing short of exceptional. Integrating a progressive, systems approach to this field of study has had a profound effect on my life and the work that I continue to do. I am so grateful for this extraordinary program, and the stunningly beautiful campus.
