Royal Theatre

Shouldn't allow light streamers for kids as very distracting. Had two stand up for 90% of show which us behind lost our view. Staff could have assisted for all others.

I was at the Snarky Puppy’s concert. They were absolutely fantastic or I should say they could have been. This review is about the sound guys and the sound system at Royal theatre. The sound system was so bad it was almost unbearable to listen to the concert. Turning everything all the way up is not how to do balance etc.the sound guys kept on coming on stage during the concert to change / modify things. It is really not acceptable to have such a low quality.

What an amazing venue! Fantastic sound, wonderful, accommodating staff and beautiful old-world fixtures give this theatre huge charm.

Highly recommend you see a show here. This is a Victoria gem.

It’s a fabulous venue. The acoustics are A-One in this theatre. Large enough to make performances quite intimate. I enjoy going to the Royal.

Saw Carmen here mid October! The theatre os so beautiful and the show was wonderful. Can't wait for the next one.

Not the most comfortable seats in town. However some of the most helpful and friendly staff. They always handle big events/shows professionally with a smile

My first time to the Opera to see "Carmen" and I have to say it was really outstanding! Amazing actors, storyline, and the music was by far the best part in my honest opinion. Cheers

A more formal-style venue that has good security, very accommodating ushers, and two bars offering a decent beverage selection. The layout makes it a little awkward to move about the lobby areas, and washrooms are limited. I really appreciate the addition of water fountains that allow refilling a water bottle or just getting a cup of water.

The Royal Theatre is an older theater with slightly less comfortable seats than you might expect. The sound from the stage and the sightlines are fantastic though. The staff are always friendly and helpful and it is easy to get to.

Really disappointing to have paid top dollar for Los Lobos and end up with some unknown Kelly Preston duet with terrible sound, not what we paid for, will never buy tickets at this venue again

Great acoustics. No bad seats in this theatre. I have sat in the upper balcony, side balcony and the bottom seats. All great views.

Intimate space. I love that they have a water dispenser options to save from water bottles. Great venue.

We were at the theatre to watch the opera Don Giovanni tonight. Dress rehearsal. It was fabulous. Opening night is Wednesday April 20,2022. It makes it even better when your daughter is in it.

Wonderful operas. Not enough washrooms, seating is too close together and the lobbies are so small you cannot move around at intermission. Very old building.

Went to see the Victoria Ballet and had a great time. Enjoyed the Victoria Symphony concerts recently as well.
The Royal Theatre itself is in a desperate need of an upgrade. It looks and feels colonial Victoria.

Absolutely amazing experience. I have major mobility issues and have had great difficulty accessing many places in Victoria. This theatre makes absolutely easy. The staff are amazing. Thank you for making The Arts available to people with disabilities.

Great. Ticket service, performance, acoustic and ambience were all great. Saw a Christmas comedy.

I have subscribed for the Victoria Symphony POP Series for several years. It's nice to support our local symphony and have a great night out. Our latest performance was "Shaken, Not Stirred " Music from James Bond and other Spies. It was a full house and probably the best one I have seen. The conductor, Sean O'Loughlin is brilliant and so much fun. The guest tenor, David Curry was outstanding. I highly recommend attending a VS event and if you go to one that Sean is conducting I expect that you will agree that he brings a high level of fun to your evening.

Nostalgia personified. Great venue to see a show. I recommend the front balcony for exceptional viewing.

The chairs need to be reupholstered because it feels like you are sitting on a deflated tire tube. Not very comfortable at all.

Love, after the first show taken ("A Christmas Tea". Shout out to second show, an opera, "Flight") Real effort and care were put into each show! Good lighting and effects. Well engineered sound. Will be hard pressed to find equal, back home (Regina, Sk.)

I had an amazing time watching the Opera. We were even a bit closer to the back of the theatre and had no problems hearing or seeing the performance

Great concert venue. The staff are incredibly kind and courteous and great at their jobs. Can't wait to come back!

I watched so many movies here back in the very early seventies as a wide-eyed girl. It's just as beautiful and majestic today as it was to me then. (I do miss the smell of popcorn and the flicker of the projector across the balcony though!)

We had great seats and a wonderful view of the stage.

We saw the Carol King show Beautiful.

It was our second time at the theater. We had gone several years ago to see Mama Mia. Our seats were on the floor (we were on the balcony for Beautiful) and they were fabulous then!

All in all a very positive experience.

Some didn't like this one, but i found it an interesting treatment of a difficult subject and often funny

Attended two Dance Victoria events in one week. Wheelchair access is limited to 6 spots in last row of parterre. Reasonable view. Staff are very accommodating. Polite. Professional.

Beautiful old building that has been beautifully maintained. Saw the Russian ballet doing Sleeping Beauty, very nice.

Stunning theatre but VERY little legroom for the tall folk. If you are over 6 feet tall you will need to secure balcony or front aisle seats.

I have never waited so long in a line for a bar. Hire more skilled staff, it should never take over and hour and miss a huge portion of the show to get a beverage. Terrible service.

Absolutely stunning theatre. Staff worked quickly to get everybody inside from the line up outside. Staff was really nice. Shows there are always amazing. Only recommendation since the bar lines are ridiculously long, I would suggest either having more bar staff bartending, or have more pop-up beer carts in the theatre. I would be glad to spend money on drinks their however the lineups are so long that you miss half the show just trying to get a drink. Overall I love the place and I would continue to go back there for shows, I would just like to be able to get drinks there at a reasonable rate of service.

This is a professional venue, super impressed with the way it is run. We have a couple of events per year here.

I gotta say, I was disappointed with the theatre, I expected more from a building of its age. Small and cramped was my feeling of the inside of the place. The show and acoustics were great, I just expected more pizazz if you will. I will definitely go back but prefer MacPherson Playhouse over the Royal any day.

Great acoustics and good lighting. I hope one day they’ll make the seats more slanted. I’m short and I seem to always sit beside someone with a big bun head. Every. Single. Time. Why do people even wear buns to the theatre—if you’re reading this and have beautiful, long hair. Please wear it down if you go to the theatre. Lastly, they allow concession drinks in the theatre so that’s great, I appreciate that.

It is an old fashioned theatre with ornate boxes and balconies. The tiering of seats is a bit shallow but I doubt that could be changed. I had to lean one way or the other to see the stage.

Recently took my mom to see alice in wonderland with ballet Victoria. Great show, seats and acoustics.

Beautiful venue with great acoustics. The show was prompt and started and finished on time. Staff were friendly and helpful!

Liberal ideologies adrift here. Fear not, for when one worries about weakness instead of strength, they too become weak, at most times weaker than those they're striving to help.

One of Victoria's main outlets for the performing arts. Recently the Victoria Symphony performed the music of Queen here of which I bought tickets, but due to poor health I had to give them to my niece Lisa. She told me it was an enjoyable evening. I performed here once in the play Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Carmina Burana awesome! The choreography was clever and beautiful. Choir did a wonderful job. Soprano soloist not only stunning but performed brilliantly. Bravo!

Saw Le Traviatta. From nose bleed seats and didn't miss a thing. Spectacular, no bad seats from the balcony.

I recommend this Venue, both for Clients and Patrons, tickets very affordable 25$-80$ on advantage thou Touring Broadway shows tickets are going to be alot more, typically especially on prime seats and days. I have seen some good shows cheap if you dont mind buying cheaper seats.
