Saku

I was a bit concerned that Saku would be all atmosphere and disappoint with the food. That was not the case. As well as an aesthetic and cozy setting, the Katsu curry we ordered was excellent. Service was accommodating and kind as well. I ordered the pork cutlet, as that was the specialty, however we preferred the chicken.

My only constructive criticism is it would have been nice to have been served the miso & cabbage to enjoy before the katsu. Beyond that, well worth the visit.

Nice environment and service, but the food is average and way overpriced.

Best cheese katsu and the decor is so classy and spacious. Def expect a wait, but you can line up on their virtual wait list and roam around while waiting. Free refills on the cabbage salad, rice and soup but the portions are pretty decent already

10/10, fast, delicious and well served, I love going to eat katsu! The portions are pretty good, if you want more rice they give you more for free.

I finally figured out why the lines here are always so long. The pork were so moist and tender and done to perfection. I don’t understand how they get the texture of every single thing so perfect.shared a platter and it was not only exquisite but inexpensive given you get rice, salad and soup as well. I loved the salad dressing. The only downside was the host was quite unfriendly. Maybe it’s expected given how popular they are but it ruined the environment a bit.

Came here for brunch and the wait to get a table for 4 was honestly not too bad (~15 mins). If everyone at the table gets a dish worth $9 or more then you get unlimited rice, miso soup, and salad. Which is great because their salad is so good as is their dressing and really gives your palate a break/reset from the deep fried foods that is your main meal. We got a side of curry because katsu and curry is just a perfect combination and if you've never poured curry over your katsu before, definitely recommend it!

My husband and I ordered the zenbu katsu and added an extra set of rice, salad and soup (which have unlimited refills btw). This is the way to do it. Even this was way too much food for the two of us and we ended up taking part of it home. We did get a side of curry and 1 deep fried oyster. Loved the oyster; could have done without the curry as it was literally just sauce, and very underwhelming sauce at that. I hear they get their crumbs from Cobs Bread, which would explain why the breading was so delicious. I look forward to going again.

Amazing service! Although, it does take some time for the food to come out. They have free flow refill for Miso and the veggies.

Curry katsu was good. I am not a huge katsu fan, I think their curry tastes. The katsu was also very juicy. I got the pork katsu.

I also tried their ebi katsu - that was excellent.

The miso was definitely a highlight! It has carrots and pork pieces in it. Delicious.

The veggies with the sauce was also amazing.

The portion size is huge! I think Saku is deinitley on the pricier end. Each person is around $35

The attitude of the workers here is crazy to say the least. We waited nearly 2 hours to be seated and in those 2 hours we saw parties of 2 and 3 be seated at the largest tables in the restaurant. We were asked to wait outside which is fine but they said it in the rudest tone and all while other people were waiting inside. In addition they tried to force us to order outside while waiting which I personally think is tacky. The rats running outside the restaurant was also a great touch. The food is lowkey bad and the atmosphere and service combined do not make the food worth it.

Saku exceeded all my expectations and more. It was so good!
I had a lot of tonkatsu at popular places while working in Japan so I know what to compare to.
I can say that Saku certainly deserves its fame!
It's a delight to experience Japanese level of friendly service again.
I will come back with an even bigger appetite!

Crispy and cheesy Donkatsu. I haven't seen anything better place to eat Japanese katsu in Vancouver.

Been to multiple times but today I had soggy Rosu Katsu.bit disappointing.
Hope it gets better next time I go.

The meal is much better than I expected, especially its seaseme sauce for salad, it is magnificent.

Arguably the best Japanese Deep-Fried Cutlets in town. Can ask for free refrill of rice, soup & lettuce. Highly recommended.

Long 40-minute wait but so worth it for their famous pork cutlets! Tender meat and perfectly breaded with no hard crunch. The portion size is perfect for the average young adult with a big stomach. The pork cutlets generally come in a set with side dishes - more or less pickled veggies, a shredded cabbage salad, and a miso soup. The peanut sauce offered at each table complements the salad very well.

As with any Japanese-staffed popular eatery, the response time from the staff was great.

Really great for that authentic Japanese curry experience. I wish there were more curry toppings and ability to select spice level. If it stayed this level of clean and classy and added those things this would have the ultimate formula. I'll be back either way.

4 ppl had 2 sets Zenbu Katsu with 2 more pieces of Cheese Katsu. It’s required to add a set of rice, tonjiru, and salad if you share, which costs $8 per one. The first bites of Cheese Katsu and Hire Katsu were very impressive. Chicken thigh was so soft and tender. Hire was much better than Rosu as you can expect. Overall, great vibe, friendly servers, and delicious food.

Had the miso katsu from Saku today for lunch, and I was blown away. They managed to recreate the Nagoya taste, and the rice is proper Japanese rice that was cooked and fluffed to perfection. They also had a mix of tsukemono (pickled vegetables) that matched the dish perfectly. My only regret is that they don't offer refills on the tsukemono, otherwise they exceeded the high expectations I had coming in.

10/10 would come again this week.

Waited 30 mins to get in. There is a waiting list where they use Yelp. I walked around and came back. The hire Katsu curry was good. Crunchy, meaty. The cheese one is good but it is very filling. Soup, rice and salad are refillable for free. The meals were like $21~23 each. Service is great, they come check very often and are very polite. It's like you went to Japan lol

I had a great experience at Saku.

We arrived before opening so we didn’t have to wait to be seated.

The service is great, the staff is really nice and the food came pretty quickly.

We wanted to try their udon but they didn’t have any that day. We tried the cheese katsu and ebi curry, both were really good. However, there could be more meat in the cheese katsu. The salad dressing is so good too!

I eat more than an average person and Saku never disappoints me with its portion and taste. This is what I ate alone today. Highly recommend the zenbu katsu.

Food was great and the staffs were friendly too, but pls stop rushing people to finish their meal. I understand that it was the peak time of the dinner time, but we sat down at 5: 47 and food came around 6: 10. We finished less than 45mins because staffs were keeping asking us are we finished our food and took away the plates. It wasn’t the first time, and it wasn’t just happened to me only. Even some of my friends said they had the same problem. We love the food, but sry I have to give 3 stars for a reason. Thanks

What a treat. I like the fillet more than loin because its more tender and juicy. The salad dressing is to die for. Super yummy, great atmosphere, feel like I'm back in Japan. But yeah, once in a while is good. It is deep fried!

Food, service, environment, price all good! Only line up every day. Prawn are fresh, batter is good n crispy, cheese katsu a must to try.

The batter was really good and authentic BUT the cheese katsu had TOO MUCH cheese. It almost had no meat. I think it'd be much better to have a little more meat.giving 3 stars since the cheese katsu was disappointing but the rest of the stuffs were good.
