Salt Spring Wild Cider House

So much good food, loved the fried chicken and everything else I tried, very cool place, lots to see, eat and drink. Really one of my favorite places on the island. Go check out their orchard and try their elderberry Cider!

Not cider drinkers, but a great stop to try new flavours!

We sat out back, in the self service area. The bar keep was great at leasing us through the barrier of flavours they offer on their 10 pour flights.

The charcuterie board is by far the nicest I’ve had at any stop I’ve ever reviewed.

Well recommend to friends if they’re ever on the island!

Amazing food with lovely selection. Great cider flights. Excellent area to be in. I went twice, both times there was no space for walk ins in their patio, but there is free seating out the back, you just have to collect the food yourself.
Highly recommend the fig dish.

Ciders were amazing. Seat yourself patio, order at bar, pick up your own drinks, food and cutlery at front, so not much help from staff. Tables were never cleaned, all customers had to bus previous peoples tables themselves to get a seat.

This has one of the best atmospheres and cider offerings I have been to. The food is fantastic. The available flights are all worth sampling. A flavor and taste for anyone's palette. Definitely a place to return to.

We had traditional flights of cider, and bought few bottles of cider, no food. We'll go back for the food, it looked good.

This place is sitting on a really beautiful vista looking out over an apple orchard. So it was a great view for dinner. The Cider was also really really good and the food was delicious. The only negative is that the flight of ciders had glasses that were filled up 1/3 of the way - maybe fill your Cider flight glasses all the way? It felt like terrible value for the cost of the flight.

It's hard for me to leave a bad review however, the service here was atrocious. Our waitress didn't come to see us for about 15 minutes after being seated, (it was not busy) she hardly acknowledged us, was not dressed appropriately, never checked in after bringing us drinks / food. We had ordered a kids meal and it was never brought out, we had politely asked if the kids meal was coming out for the child and the waitress said "10 minutes" and never came back. After going inside after about 20 more minutes they told us we never ordered it / it wasn't put it. There was no apologies or anything. That's disgusting customer service- there should at least be ownership to your errors. She never even said sorry and essentially implied it was our fault his chicken fingers didn't get out into the computer system. Not to mention the hostess was extremely stuck up and rude and never smiled or even told us to have a nice day or anything and gave us a dirty look when we were not disrespectful at all. Paid for our meal and we're just wondering where the kids meal was after waiting patiently for an hour. Mean girl highschool mentality, also parking sucks. I would never recommend going to this place, the scenery is beautiful however the staff and lack of customer service is not worth giving this place a cent of your money.

Yummy ciders. Get the giant flight. It's worth it. But every food item that day I wanted to order was not available.

Great meal and lovely cider. We shared a full flight, then grabbed a couple of bottles of our favorites to take with us. Patio has a lovely view over the orchard.

First, it takes a lot for me to leave a bad review. (Especially considering that we had just eaten here two nights prior, being served almost $200 worth of food on napkins, and ignored that significant inconvenience.) And since I hate to leave a one star, I have read all of the owners’ replies to other low reviews and can say that it was not the “first night” of our servers occupation there, nor was it “busy” on this Monday evening - at all. However, it was VERY busy on our first visit two nights prior and while the service wasn’t good OR friendly (at all), we didn’t feel the need to review it because it was so busy and we chalked it up to just that. But tonight… it’s just inexcusable and crazy to me that an establishment wants to treat people poorly for no reason at all. Or make excuses for their employees that do. It’s gross.

We had planned on making our final two dinners (tonight and tomorrow) there due to the close proximity to our stay.

We made tonight’s reservation for 7: 00 earlier in the day and arrived five minutes early. The area that we were seated was surprisingly not busy, and there were several tables that were on their way out. We sat. And sat. And sat some more. Our server walked by us no less than ten times and looked away from our table each time she passed. I’d assumed she wasn’t our server
because of her utterly standoffish “not my table” behavior. After approx 15 minutes, my Husband said it seemed they were too busy (despite several servers loitering about in solitaire) to send a server our way and offered to order our ciders at the bar. Good idea, as sitting idly wasn’t working. When he reached the bar, the (friendly) bartender asked if we had a table outside. He replied that we did but couldn’t give her a table number as we are patrons, not employees. In that moment, the other waitress (oversized white graphic tee) ran to the back to tell someone what was going on & my husband was told that they’d bring our drinks to us. Several minutes passed, and our server brought our drinks to us while extremely rude/put out asking if they were our drinks. When we replied yes, she smirked and cut me off when I explained why we went to the bar to order drinks. She then cut me off to ask if we also ordered food. I was so shocked at this point that I told her we did not and would enjoy our drinks and consider if we would order at all at that point. She then told me to give her my menu and left with it.

She continued to give nasty looks and stare our way while talking trash to the hostess at one point. She returned after about twenty minutes to ask if we wanted anything to eat. I told her that we’d decided we were done, and she asked if we were sure. We replied that we were ready to go and were met with a cheery “Ok then! ” - which was a smack in the face because reiterated our feelings of not being wanted in the establishment. (Why?)

She returned with our tab saying she had given us a “little discount” for “being missed. ” At that point, it just felt like more snark. Oddly her ticket name was “Night Shift, ” so we don’t have a reference for a name but want to thank her for ultimately sending us to Oystercatcher, which we had entirely dismissed over shoddy reviews about “price” that was completely inconsequential, as the service was STELLAR. So much so that I almost fainted when our server told us she was 17 because she was running circles around the large crowds there.

Came here with a couple friends to try some ciders, Saskatoon Berry and Pear Cider were my favourite. Our server Bella was kind, polite and very knowledgeable about the menu and all the ciders. Her recommendations were spot on and our glasses were never empty. Would recommend this place to anyone who’s a cider lover. Definitely coming back next time I’m in Salt Spring, hope we get the same server

Great choices for ciders. Had a flight and enjoyed the majority of the options. Food was good. My wife and I shared jambalaya and chicken and waffles. The kids had meatballs and chicken fingers. Was an all around good experience.

Awful service from staff. The restaurant is cute and I try to never leave bad reveiws BUT this definitely needs one. Our service was awful. The one waitress (short blonde hair) lied to our face about our food coming out (which it never did come out and was not even put into the system to be made.which our "main" waitress longer dirty blonde hair informed us once I got sick of waiting and went inside and asked her.
Our waitress (longer hair) did NOT check in with us at all like nothing not even a look in our direction. If you hate your job that much do not be a waitress.
We sat on the patio to have service and never been so disappointed with service and lack of caring before.

Called and made a reservation but when we arrived there was no reservation in the system. Luckily, there was a table available for us and our dog. Rice bowl with crispy chicken was delicious, ciders were nice and refreshing.

The Cidery gets 5 stars from me. Everything on the menu is always delicious, imaginative and beautifully presented. And this Monday, the star was Kat, our server. She coped with our 3 generation family with patience, grace and humour. She went out of her way to make our time there a total delight, even producing a hat when she saw me struggling with the sun in my eyes. 5 stars, without a doubt.

Gets quite busy here, especially on a hot summer day and on a Saturday! Fun atmosphere to be in, relaxing, sitting outside. Great selection of ciders to choose from!

Best cider house ever! Service is fantastic! Food is great! The views from the patio are picturesque. So I obviously recommend this place to friends and family!

My husband and I had a delightful anniversary dinner at Wild Cider. Our reserved table was on the patio with a lovely view of sheep running through the fields. Our biologist friends we saw there said they always sit outside at the picnic tables for the view that reminds them of Alaska. My husband said his fried chicken was great and I had the local venison sausage. It is great that they have a lower alcohol yet delicious cider on the menu. The service was just how you want it relaxing outside on a summer evening, attentive, quick with the food, coming by often to fill your water, and giving you space to soak in the view. It’s no surprise that locals are raving about Wild Cider.

My family recently held a large family gathering at Salt Spring Wild Cider House. Communication in advance of the event was terrific and execution on the day of the event was similarly great. Staff paced food very well and were attentive to our group's needs without being overbearing. The setting's beauty is persuasive in itself, but cider is pretty persuasive too!

Overrated. Cider felt like juice with some alcohol. No carbonation. The blonde server repeatedly asked us (every 2-3 min) “is there anything else you need”, implying hurry up and pay the bill. I literally told you, no we don’t need anything. What part don’t you understand? Need more training or basic conversation skills?

5/5 stars for the atmosphere, views, service and cider. 3.5/5 for the food. Our party nearly ordered the whole menu and we found some flavours lacking - salt on the mash potatoes, lemon for the calamari, umami for the rice bowl etc. Attached is the one of the appetizers for which visually we were underwhelmed and amused. I think these small improvements would really enhance the taste and easily take this spot to the next levels. STILL a worthy place to visit.
