Salty's Fish and Chips

Best decision I made trying to find a place for lunch. The guys working there were amazing, great service. The halibut was flaky, soft, lightly buttered, delicious. The shrimp and prawns perfectly cooked. 5 starts every single time.

Got the halibut and chips. Price was actually really good. Batter on the fish was excellent only lacking some seasoning but otherwise was excellent. Fries were fries. Poutine was good. Place was full so that's a good sign. Got take out and it was ready on time and hot. I'd definitely go back to check out the rest of the menu.

Brilliant food. Quite expensive but quite nice. $50 for halibut lunch for two. Nice crisp and light batter. Staff is pleasant. Their takeout and Doordash service is also solid.

While passing through town we were on the hunt for a lunch of fish and chips. We spotted Salty's while on the highway going through Duncan and decided to stop for lunch. My partner and I ordered the jumbo tiger prawns, the chowder bisque, and the 8 OZ halibut – from the captains table dish. First after initially only ordering one chowder we immediately ordered a second, what a treat the tomato based broth and heaping amount of seafood was a great treat, next the tiger prawns arrived, not to bad the light batter and cocktail sauce went well together, finally the main entrée arrived, the basket of shrimp scallops and oysters went well with the chowder, the halibut was nicely battered definitely not over done and paired incredibly well with the house made tartar sauce, definitely glad we stopped here for lunch, would for sure stop here again just for the chowder

Took some guys from our crew there for supper, the service was great, the food was awesome, nothing to say other than go and enjoy. VERY friendly staff, great atmosphere and will definitely return for more!

The waiter who served our table was probably new to the job. There were only 2 tables and he got our orders mixed up.

The fries and oysters were a bit overdone. Fish was alright.

We are from the Atlantic Coast and this place has very good fish and chips. We had haddock, scallops and prawns, all perfectly done and very tasty. The fries are great, which is honestly a rare find together with great seafood.

Definitely not what the Brits would eat. Overcooked tasteless fish a fries as bad as they could be. I'm sure the fried jumped out if the fryer hoping to escape. Someone should teach them how to cook.

Waited 45 minutes for food. Finally asked the girl at the counter where it was and not a single member of the staff had any idea. Got my money back and left. What a waste of time and barely an apology from them.

I was passing through on my way to Victoria and pulled a hard U-turn when I saw the sign for authentic English style fish and chips. Omgoodness. So so so good. I had the mushy peas and 2 piece cod and chips. So fresh it tasted like they caught it from the ocean and put it on my plate. Great serving. I took half home and will have another full meal. I highly recommend and the girls were so friendly! My ONLY complaint is that the ketchup wasn’t Heinz. I wouldn’t lose a single star over it though.

Really really busy Both eating in eating out The gal who was working at the front counter was very friendly and treated everybody as an individual Efficient chips really good fish the chips were rather soggy On the takeout but everything else was top notch a busy little Treasure here in Duncan

Stopped in for lunch two days ago.
Had the cod and chips as well as the shrimp, scallops and oysters from the captains table menu.
Very impressed.
Best fish and chips I’ve had on the island.
Light batter, tasty fish, not greasy.
Seem to care about there customers, asked you if you enjoyed your meal. What a concept!
Staff were happy.

I was delighted and surprised by the excellent order of fish& chips I had here. The batter was light and crisp accompanied with an ample serving of fries! Perfectly cooked Halibut was tender and moist. The the service was quick, fast and efficient. Absolutely nothing to complain about. I would certainly come back in a flash! It was a tad expensive, but you get you pay for.thumbs up

This was some of the BEST halibut I’ve had. We all raved it! Will definitely keep ordering from them.

Was hoping for some traditional crispy tender British fish and chips. Instead we got rubbery fish and softy mushy batter. Don't waste your hard earned money here.

I loved it.and the prices are great the only thing I'd change is to not give packaged tartar sauce when you have homemade, also I don't think you should get charged extra for coleslaw.but the fries are amazing and so is the fish.

We came on Tuesday for the all you can eat for $16, but due to Covid-19 it's not offered. We decided to still give them a try. My wife ordered the West Coast Bisque (Mix seafood thick soup) $4.5 and British Traditional (2 Hadcod, Panko Shrimp, slaw and chips) $22.75. I ordered the 2 pieces Cod, slaw and chips $17.75.

The Bisque was pack full of seafood and flavor in a small bowl. It came out piping hot and we really enjoyed it. The British Traditional is basically 2 pieces Hadcod, slaw and chips plus $4 for Panko Shrimp. Definitely worth the extra $4 if you are hungry because they give a good amount of it. Panko Shrimp is was good along with the slaw. Both fish had great meat size, lightly batter and oil was fresh. The two thing we didn't like much was the chips and tartar sauce. The fries lacked a bit of flavor. However I believe you can substitute for onion rings or more slaw as the other tables did that. The tartar sauce was not the best I had. The sauce is the 2nd most important thing! Which is what kept me from giving it 5 stars.

If you are undecided between the two fish. Me and my wife think it's worth the extra $1 for the Hadcod. It had a lighter and less fishy taste vs Cod. Halibut the best, but also comes with a high price, but Hadcod is a nice balance of quality and value. Stay away from Pollock if you see it offered.

Service was quick and friendly. I am glad we tried them out and hope they bring back the Tuesday all you can eat for $16, but I doubt I can eat more than 2-3 pieces of Cod!

The same great crispy halibut every time! And love the fresh coleslaw! Safety protocols in place and open for dining in at the time of our visit. Yummy.as usual!

We ordered shrimp as an appetizer and then both cod and haddock and chips. The fish and shrimp were excellent.
The fries were a little disappointing and seemed they had hung around a while as not as hot as they should have been and a little tough. Not bad enough to take back but a little disappointing. White spot fried across the road are same style and consistently good.
We were able to sit in one of the spaced out tables which was nice. Good Covid precautions. The young girl serving us was good.

Ty for your food, was as i expected, was what i thought i would receive in every way, However, i saw the Owners or the staff or whoever works there, treat a few street kids and i mean 2 very young men and a girl no more than 13 years of age, just as they treated me, with dignity and helpful caring way, just as they should. I let them order before me so i could see for myself if they were going to shun them or mistreat them to get them out of the way of the rich high paying tourists! They again were treated with dignity and the same respect as anyone else would expect, I had just ate and because i saw what i did, i ordered more than i could eat. This place is decent.good food but more importantly, i saw their hearts are good! TY second most important high light of a 3 week holiday discovering Vancouver Island on my Bike!

Went here on a complete whim with a sudden craving. Cute little place, friendly staff, really good food! Very classic fish and chips and the coating was nice and thin and crisp. I'm not often in the Duncan area, so hopefully I'll be able to return in the future!

Had the 2 piece Halibut with fries. It was awesome! Service was great too. Will definitely go back.

Used to come here 16 years ago as a teen with my grandad while I was doing chemotherapy. Loved it and still come.

If you like traditional fish and chips ina English style this is your place food is great usually busy Friday nights

Had our first experience here finally. The halibut was excellent! We picked up the order to go and still the batter was crunchy and dry. So tasty.

Good place to get some British standard. I really respect the low impact packaging! Paper-wrapped fish of course, but the carton take out containers really make me happy!

It's the only place I go in Duncan when I want to go for a good piece of properly cooked halibut and a side of great fries always hot and fresh. The service is good always quick and the price is good as well

The small-town and old British vibes make this restaurant a great choice for some solid fish & chips in Duncan. It is not super big inside so it has been pretty full the times I have gone, but the food is worth the wait. The servers are friendly and the service is quick. If there's one negative thing, it's that the tartar sauce is not the greatest in my opinion, so some improvement could be made to ensure it tastes good and fresh. However, the fish and coleslaw are fantastic! Definitely recommend coming here for fish & chips, especially if you're just passing through Duncan and are looking for an authentic West Coast fish & chips restaurant.

After a very lengthy day of travelling they were able to accommodate a very large group of 8 very hungry people that just wanted some west coast fish and chips. We walked into a very busy restaurant and were disappointed when we thought we wouldn't be able to be seated. TO our surprise they seated us and even stayed open late in order to serve us! Amazing food and service! Thank you so much to the Salty's crew!

Great service and great fish. Just stopped by for the Tuesday all you can eat cod and chips. Honestly, the batter is not to thick and slaw and chips are great too.
Downfall is the size, not to big to host large groups.

The fish was pretty good and the fries were underwhelming. The restaurant could use a makeover as it's tiny and not much space to move around. I have to say the the staff were really polite and attentive. I would probably go again if I was on the area and it's worth a visit I'd you like fish and chips.

Always very good. Excellent Haddock & Chips mushy peas and bread and butter with a cup of tea. A life saver.

I just had the most delightful meal at this location. The fish was absolutely perfect. The yam fries were delicious. Very nice and punctual waitresses.
