Salty’s Lobster Shack & East Van Brewing

Grabbed a roll and the bisque from Port Moody, Hymo provided great conversation while we wait given we were the only patrons.

Thought the roll was great and the bisque was a great way to warm up on a cold eve.

Went to Boardwalk Brewing location with 3 other people. Service was exceptional. Lobster roll was a miss. After doing my due diligence of reading reviews I informed myself that it's best to order the %100 lobster roll to avoid the pre frozen seafood mix used for the other rolls. We all with confidence ordered the $38 8oz rolls. The Lobster salad in the roll was watery and bland. It was quite obvious from the not so delicate texture that it was previously frozen. The buns were obviously pre toasted hours ago and reheated. Maybe it's a better product when ordered straight from the truck, though if you can't replicate the same quality serving at a pop up location, please do not offer it. Also, why is the Conneticut roll not offered with %100 Lobster? We were hoping to try it though didn't want it to be made with the prefrozen seafood mix.

Bisque soup is delicious but was served warm not hot! Roll completely dry it would have been nice to have a dipping or sauce with. Adding when I say delicious means the taste apart from hot or warm. Owner perhaps you should coach your team to know the right temperature to serve soup what wld it be! And yes we are tough crown nowadays, & ur not cheap at all. I will give your restaurant a second stop and will judge accordingly this time live, how about that I hope your team will make it right and I will ensure to be generous with my star review ;)

After drooling wanting to try this place for a year, I finally went.
The bartender was ok with an attitude like he is too cool for patrons (I was the only one at the bar and would have had to begged for a 2nd beer, I gave up)
The lobster roll, nearly $20 for a mix of pollack & lobster on a small hot dog bun (Dempsey that you can buy at any grocery store 12 for $2.99)
It was small and sad.
The chips were nice tho
This sandwich does not need to be huge but the ingredients would be quality & were not

False advertising. I ordered "Connecticut Lobster Roll" on UberEats and nothing in the description indicates that it is anything other than lobster meat. Instead it is a salty imitation meat / fish / lobster meat combination. Most expensive fake lobster roll of my life.

Hello, could you guys tell people that you are serving mostly imitation crab meat instead of calling it lobster as a deceptive business practice, people who's never had lobster in their life would think they just had lobster, instead they are just eating California roll fillings mostly.

Please at least put it on your menu so people are informed, then they get to decide if they are paying money for imitation crab meat roll.

For alternative do go to the Lobster Man on Granville island as they use 100% real lobster for the same price, no deception here.

I order from Salty’s often. One day I ordered two of their Lobster bisque from Uber eats but once it arrived it had no lobster pieces in it at all. The last time I ordered there was, so I gave them a call to ask if they no longer put lobster pieces in their bisque. They explained they were training a new employee and apologized for the inconvenience. Ashton, the owner of Salty’s was very friendly and kept in touch with me to rectify the situation. I will definitely continue to support this local business and recommend it to everyone!

I ordered through Uber Eats. The delivery was fast as I watch the app tracking. Unfortunately, when the food arrived (2x lobster Mac n cheese W/ lobster “bisque” side). My first disappointment was how small the $27 portion was. I was hoping it would be nice and cheesy, abundant and packed with lobster but as I looked closer I noticed that there was no actual sauce but a bunch of macaroni with little congealed cheese bumps and a meager amount of lobster looking (not lobster) scattered underneath the pasta. When I took a bite, the dish was barely luke warm and flavourless. My only thought at this point was “how can a chef allow this product to leave their kitchen”? Then, I tried the bisque… a proper bisque should be smooth, creamy and strained. Mine was chunky, gritty and inedible. I suggest adding some corn and potatoes and calling it a chowder because that was not a bisque.
In the end I poured the “bisque” over the mac so that there would be some wetness (sauce) and a hint of flavour to it. Twas still disappointed. In the end, the food ordered was so terrible that I couldn’t eat it, wasted $70+ and had to order again from somewhere else

I do not recommend going to/ordering from this establishment.

Good choice beers and loved the Salty's Lobster sandwich! Nice ambience especially at upper level!

Update: I gave this place another chance but it'll be my last time. I ordered from the brewing company location and there was literally one 2mm piece (smaller than the eraser on a pencil) of lobster in my Connecticut sandwich. I picked that sandwich apart to see if I could find any real lobster meat. I've read the owners responses to other reviews and no, there was no leg or knuckle meat to be found - everything was the imitation stuff in both look and texture. Even with inflation, if there's no actual lobster in there then paying $26 for a roll is robbery. I also got the lobster bisque again and it also only had imitation crab/lobster meat. The last time I had the bisque there was at lesst a few tiny pieces of real shelled lobster meat. Very disappointed and will have to go elsewhere when I want a lobster roll

I was super excited when they added the Connecticut roll because I don't like mayonnaise so this is an option I can eat. I only wish my lobster roll had more real lobster meat instead of the imitation meat which seemed to make up most of my sandwich. And I don't think it's a one off thing because both times I've ordered the Connecticut roll, I've had more imitation meat. I do enjoy fake crab meat when I have it in sushi, but at $23 I'm a bit disappointed. The chips are a nice addition though.

I’m from a lobster fishing family and live in Vancouver! Been wanting to try their lobster roll for so long…. Disappointing as 80% of the “lobster meat” is imitation crab! Very disappointing! Over price for a product that is so cheap…

Had a similar experience to lots of reviewers where the lobster roll was mostly imitation meat. I read the replies from the owner and understand that times are tough; however, transparency would have been nice. Had we known prior to, I think we would have enjoyed it more but since we were unaware, it was not a great experience.

Lobster grilled cheese sandwich was perfection. Not oily, not too salty, just the right combo of melted cheese and real lobster. Throw in bits of crunchy celery for a texture contrast.

Had Lobster grilled cheese sandwich today and it's so good! Really like the sourdough. Nice and crispy from outside, decent amount of lobster inside. Really goes well with melted cheese. Beer is great as well. Try the limited Nerds Sour.

I visited the Arts alive festival in Langley today and was so excited because one of my favourite food trucks was there. I haven't been for about 2 years, pre covid, so was definitely excited to have my Salty Lobster fix.

I ordered the Connecticut sandwich with lobster bisque.

The bun was like Wonderbread,
Untoasted, barely warm and not buttered at all.
The "lobster" was dry, chewy, fishy tasting and tasted like imitation crab mix.

I would have gone back for a refund but it was 35° out with a huge line.

The biggest thing I would like this company to have is a disclaimer that this product is not 100% actual lobster but an imitation blend.
This can pose a real problem for Many. Cat food is better.

Lemony amazing fresh lobster on the best hoagie I have ever had, I fully recommend this place to only enjoy both the appetizers and the rolls, I guess I know now why there is no red lobster on the West Coast

Was disappointed in this lobster roll. I will stick to the delicious lobster rolls in Boston. This was a big waist of money.

We went here for lunch around noon on a Monday, beers were good, not mind-blowing but this review is primarily for the food. We ordered the Maine and the Connecticut rolls plus a chowder to share. The buns for both were advertised to be "garlic butter toasted brioche bun" but both were cold, unbuttered, not toasted and tasted like wonder bread hot dog buns. The lobster meat in both rolls had a shredded-like texture with a flavour reminiscent of a California roll. Between the two rolls the warmed lobster in the Connecticut roll was the better of the two, as the Maine had a very heavy handed use of salty mayo making it truly like a california roll in a hot dog bun. Chowder was ok, good amount of meat in a decently creamy broth, mild hint of dill, nothing spectacular. It pains me to write this but for the amount you pay here you can get better food elsewhere.

You can’t go wrong with a lobster sandwich. This place does it right. Just enough mayonnaise that isn’t too overpowering and a nice soft crunchy bun that is not soggy. We also ordered the lobster bisque soup they offer and it was pretty delicious and paired well with the lobster roll. My only complaint would be that I personally like a bit less mayonnaise on the lobster roll. Overall very friendly staff when I came to pick up my order. I’ll surely come back again for another try!

Wow what an amazing pub the food was amazing the atmosphere was really cool and unique, the brew their own beer if you're into that kind of thing all the art on the walls is by a local artist and you can buy it too all very reasonably priced. They also have a ghost users pin ball machine and do trivia nights! Wow honestly I can say enough about how delicious the food was and service was very fast and helpful. I had the half lobster roll and sandwich (which comes with all dressed chips) and the lobster Mac and cheese. Both were so delicious some of the best Mac and cheese I've ever had the soup was super flavorful and the roll was as well. The roll comes either hot with garlic butter or cold with mayo and celery and it was cold out so I chose the hot option and had a really great time, I'll definitely be back!

Ordered through UberEats. I was really looking forward to it, because the photos looked spectacular but I ended up being disappointed. The Maine Lobster Roll had very shredded lobster, not big chunks like the picture and the bun was soggy. The lobster bisque was delicious though after reheating. Not worth $35 in my opinion: (

Went to the East Van brewing and brought my family based on the reviews. We were extremely disappointed to pay $23 a roll to have it filled with imitation crab. This should be advertised. All four of us had more imitation crab than real lobster - very disappointing.

This was our 3rd time to East Van Brewery. As usual the service was great however Salty's was somewhat lacking and the Brewery was not pouring an IPA or Pale Ale. We ordered the Connecticut Lobster roll, Grilled cheese lobster sandwich, Mac/Lobster and cheese and Lobster bites. Previously the roll was to die for however now the bun has been downsized by at least 30% and the chunks of Lobster were missing replaced by shredded lobster. The lobster grilled cheese was unremarkable and the Mac/Lobster and cheese was sticky instead of creamy. The Lobster bites fell apart as the crostini had turned mushy. All in all -for the price paid was high but the value was lacking.

Had the lobster roll, which was decent but nothing special. The mac&cheese was great though and so was the grilled cheese. Service wasn’t great unfortunately.

Bisque and Mac and Cheese were okay, but the lobster roll was all mushed imitation lobster/crab meat and probably filler. I didn't even get a single larger piece of lobster!

The lobster Mac 'N' Cheese was one of our favourites we tried on our recent trip! And we really enjoyed the East Van Brewing Company creations - especially the Matcha beer!

Just ordered Connecticut Lobster Roll today.
Tasted delicious HOWEVER, the lobster meat tasted like imitation lobster combined with real lobster.

Question to Salty’s staff: are you using 100% real lobster? Or real lobster meat mixing with imitation lobster meat?

We ordered the two for one deal lobster chowder on Uber Eats. While the chowder was tasty, the lobster pieces in the chowder were disappointing. I'm not sure where their lobster is from, but it tastes a lot like imitation crab meat both texturally and flavour-wise. Some of the lobster meat is clumped together and it is nothing like real lobster meat.

The Lobster rolls here used to be better… but over time, the roll has gotten noticeably smaller, more imitation crab/meat is being used instead of real lobster, yet the price steadily goes up.

Lobster bisque is still amazing and worth though.

5/5 for what it once was, 3/5 for what it is today.

Salty's was on my bucket list of foods to try in BC. I got the regular lobster roll and my friend got half a roll with the lobster bisque. The lobster roll itself was pretty good- tasted fresh and the dill was nice as well. The lobster bisque though was a little strange. It didn't taste that much like soup and it was chunky and not very creamy. I can tell it had a lot of vegetables which is great but it didn't taste of much. It was a little underwhelming to be honest but I'm glad we tried it anyway!

We had the lobster roll, crab roll and lobster bisque. Would recommend the lobster roll and bisque.
Salty's Lobster Shack is located in the East Van Brewing so we were told we had to order a drink to order food. I don't drink beer but lucky I was with someone who had a drink.

If you enjoy a nice bisque with a pinch of lobster for $12 + taxes on UberEats, you've to the right place. You won't find a more premium priced soup without the premium ingredients in Metro Vancouver! Enjoy.

I was so excited to try the lobster roll and people have been raving about it. The size of the lobster roll is decent The filling tastes great, with the right amount of sauce and seasoning and a good amount of filling. I was quite disappointed with the bread/bun, I'm not sure if they bake the bread themselves but it was too soft, not warm or lightly buttered or crispy. Almost tasted like dempster's. The roll tasted better without the bun.

I had a Lobster Roll today from your Shack parked at 41st & West Blvd. It was fantastic. You have a fantastic location. Wait until school starts at Point Grey in a couple of weeks. You’ll sell at least 100 rolls every lunch hour for Monday-Friday. There are over 1,000 teenagers in that school!

Give them a Point Grey HS ‘’Special’’ - A Lobster Roll + a SAN PELEGRINO Momenti for $20! You can get them from Amazon for $1 each so they must be at COSTCO for that IT’LL BE SOLD OUT EVERYDAY. It’s San Pellegrino with fruit juice. Fantastic and low cal.

Muvbox in Old Montreal gets their lobster from the Gaspé. It’s great too…a bit lighter.
It’s also a hit! Try that as well. Then you can offer Maine. Connecticut or lobster from the Gaspé.

Asked for no dill on my lobster rolls when i brought them home they were full of dill
The man taking my order told me wait outdide on those chairs for about 10 min or so
I did. 40 min later i went to the door to ask about my order it was sitting on the side

I was wishing to come to try the salt lobster for years, but it was really disappointed. The bisque was something like a curry soup with cold little pieces of lobster, definitely not a good combination of flavors. The roll was ok, but the bread was really small, dry, and stale. If you don’t like ketchup chips like me, you don’t have another option as well. Better check my other reviews.

Service was great and staff were very friendly. However, the food was not to my liking as I found the lobster in the bisque to be overwhelming and too rich. The lobster roll was alright, but not amazing. A pretty good experience, but unfortunately I have to give 3 stars because of the food.

Salty’s Lobster Shack is a hidden gem of Vancouver. Those who have not tried it out, have no idea what they are missing out on. Sometimes you can find them at a local brewery and pair some Salty’s food with beer flights.

The Lobster Roll is super fresh and the Lobster Bisque is rich and creamy. They also keep a variety of hot sauces for you to pair with your food. One of my favourite seafood joints in the city. Highly recommend it!

Every place you find the menu has a different description of the menu items, down to the maine lobster roll not always being made with maine lobster

$20 is a stretch for the amount of food I received

The bread was too thick, stale, and reminiscent of superstore budget bread

Overall: I would not go again, though I could be convinced if quality was improved to be commensurate with price

I just ordered the lobster roll, lobster bisque and lobster mac and cheese via Ubereats. And boy was this delicious and impressive. Even though it was via delivery it was as if they just served it from the restaurant. I've never tried a lobster roll before and the very nice thing about this one is the sweet chunky lobster pieces (that aren't overcooked or dry). It's also not overloaded with butter or mayo (I don't like overly buttery or too much mayo). Lobster bisque also had succulent pieces of lobster and had complex flavour with a slight bit of heat - perfect. The mac and cheese was good but could have been slightly more moist. Definitely worth a try!

We first came to your shack about a year ago and Loved the lobster sandwich and bisque. We come in from Surrey and for awhile it was worth the trip, but lately not so much. Today hubby and I came to the Brewery. The gal at the front brushed us off, saying there were no tables, outside tables weren’t in use today, kitchen may or may not be backed up for to go orders, very uninterested in serving us, so we said see ya. We headed to the Olympic location.brutal. Bread was dry. No garlic, no pizzazz, bisque was just warm, not too impressed. Sorry Salty’s, not sure I’ll recommend anymore

Mediocre At Best. I went because of the reviews, but I agree, the rolls are not even in the top 10 I've ever had. The Lobster meat Tastes fake, like crab meat, no bite to the sandwich, all shredded. Mac and cheese is very good. The bisque is also below mediocre quality. Bit disappointed, was really looking forward to it. Try the lobster Mac and cheese and pass on the other two.

Lobster Shack brought their trailer down for a lunch gathering. I split two types of Lobster rolls with another and had the bisque as well. The rolls were delicious and the bisque was great as well. Quantity was sufficient. Service was quick and friendly. I’ll be having Lobster running through my dreams for the next while I’m sure.
