Shades of White Bridal

One of the largest bridal shops in Victoria, and accommodating to larger groups (maximum 10 people preferred). Monica was kind and very helpful, and there was a large selection of beautiful dresses. I found some great contenders here so would highly recommend booking an appointment to see if you can find “the one”! In my photos I’m wearing a mask. I was not sick, had zero symptoms, and both my fiancé and I had negative Covid tests. However, my fiancé had cold symptoms so I felt it best to wear a mask to be respectful and cautious

To say the experience shopping at Shades Of White was disappointing and traumatic would be an understatement.

I went in looking for my dream dress, and came out with my confidence shattered. As a plus size bride, (usually size 14) I went into the appointment knowing that the sample sizes would be small and need some imagination. However, I was not prepared for the judgemental, condescending, body shaming experience I received. The consultant did not “consult” instead she pulled dresses that she liked and thought would “suit me” all while telling my maid of honour and mother “that’s not what we’re looking for” when they tried to suggest a dress. When I didn’t try the dress on she brought or didn’t like it, she was visibly upset and walked off muttering under her breath.

When I put the first dress on, she came in and said she would “try to work her magic” to get me into it. The face she pulled when she came into the room and saw me in the dresses was one of disgust. She kept saying “it obviously doesn’t/wont fit, but I’ll just stand behind you and hold it together. ” She would put the inserts in the back, though half the time didn’t even clamp them on because “there was no way, ” and “this wasn’t the one anyways. ”

I was falling out of the dresses. I felt so exposed and self conscious and she did nothing to make this an enjoyable or even tolerable experience. While I walked out and stood on the block (unless it was occupied by another appointment) she didn’t once come and fluff the dress or “stand behind me. ” I came out of the dressing room to show my people and she just stood there.

Even the consultants that were not mine were making faces. My maid of honour heard them say “oh, YOU should try that one on” talking to their brides, about the dress I was in. One even tried to take one of the dresses I was going to try on for their bride, because “that’s not what she (me) really wants. ”

The appointment slot was for 90 minutes, and after 15 I was ready to leave. I would pop my head out with a question or want to ask about something and she was nowhere to be found. The dress my maid of honour picked for me to try, was left to the side and she wasn’t going to let me try it on, because she “didn’t think it was what I was looking for” without even asking me!
I also asked about a specific dress to try on, and she claimed she couldn’t find it. I find that hard to believe as the entire time she was saying how “unforgiving” that silhouette is and that I didn’t have the right shape for it. I had been wanting to try this dress on for a long time and she basically said no, you’re too fat for that dress. I asked if they had anything similar and she again said no. I found something that was a similar shape (mermaid with a puffy bottom) and she suggested we hold it up in front of me while I had a different dress on so I could see the difference of size and shape this dress “requires. ” I still wanted to try it on, just to see what it looked like, and she made it known that she was against this with more fat phobic comments.

Over all, the experience and “standard of service Shades of White prides itself on” was shocking, disgusting, and completely unprofessional.

Went to a few stores before this one and it was the best experience by far! Loved that even if the dress didn’t fully fit they actually made a point to try and pin it and put in panelling! So happy to find my dream dress here and they went out of their way to help me envision some alternations like adding straps!

Brittany and Nicole (I think she was in training) were so lovely when I came in for my very first bridal appointment (literally first time shopping). They figured out my budget and what styles I had an idea that I liked and we got a solid 5 or 6 right away, tried them on, liked some things and disliked others. Then Brittany suggested that I may like a different dress that I hadn’t picked but she pulled it from a little stock pile of samples they had. I was hesitant at first but fell in love with the detail on the dress, tried it on and sure enough it quickly became my favourite. She’s got a good eye because I ended up saying yes to that dress and it was on sale and fit amazingly so I think it was meant to be! She also got me onto the idea of a veil which I had convinced myself that I wouldn’t have and am now seriously contemplating adding a veil to the ensemble! Might have to come back to take a look at some more veils now. It was a fun, memorable, experience!

I had the best experience at Shades of White yesterday! Brittany was wonderful and her suggestion dress was the one I fell in love with. I recommend all the brides out there to book your appointment!

Haley was so helpful and knowledgeable, I found my dress on the first try (but had to go back to make sure!). Everyone in the shop was lovely and patient, I didn't feel rushed or pressured at all.

I went this past weekend and had my appointment with Britney. She came highly recommended from someone I know, who used to work there as well.

I felt incredibly well taken care of, and her skills were magical. Somehow we ended up in the COMPLETE opposite of what I thought I wanted, but holy moly was it an amazing experience.

All the Shades of White Staff are kind and helpful. Specifically Britney who put up with me and my bridal party for quite a few appointment. I’m sure there’s more sizing for wedding dresses but I came here looking for prom dresses I was disappointed to find out that majority of the dresses in store were a size 2. It made trying the dresses on an awful experience as though I was only a couple sizes larger I felt huge in these dresses.

Great experience, able to try lots of dresses in a short amount of time. People were helpful and made me feel comfortable. Found a dress too!

Such a huge selection of dresses! A really great place if you’re not sure what style you want and you want to try on a bit of everything. The staff are so sweet too!

I also really like how they have the bridesmaids dresses there as well so while you’re doing your thing as a bride your maid of honor or any bridesmaids with you can also check out some stuff for them.

This dress shop was amazing! So much selection that I found "the dress" quite easily after only a single day of shopping. The boutique was also incredibly understanding when it came to rebooking my appointment due to flight cancellations. Highly recommended!

Shades of White was my first wedding dress shopping experience and I have to tell you that Quinn was absolutely AMAZING. She brought dresses that met my initial criteria and a few outside just for fun (with my permission), but more importantly she listened to my feedback on every dress and brought me something better each time. Resulting, I tried on a few styles that I wouldn't have picked out right away but ended up being *almost* perfect. She made the appointment so much fun and was so encouraging, it felt like she was one of my girls! Although I didn't end up finding my dress here, I would 110% recommend to others.

It was everything I had dreamed my appointment would be. My consultant, Brittany, was amazing. She had pulled dresses that were exactly what I was looking for…. Actually, she knew what I was looking for before I knew it! Could not recommend this store enough. Shades of White is the store to go to if you are looking for your wedding dress. As a plus size bride I was really nervous about trying on dresses I have hears stories but I never once felt uncomfortable or judged, I was welcomed and helped, it made my experience amazing.

I had a lovely bridal appointment with Chris. It was my first time trying on dresses and she was very accommodating and attentive. I liked the professionalism and she made me feel important (like a bride should). She provided me with a few hair accessories to choose from which I really loved. They had a huge selection of dresses. Chris picked 3 dresses for me upon arrival that were similar to the photos I sent. I said no to them so she let me look upon the racks. Throughout the appointment my party also continued to bring dresses they picked and Chris was kind, despite being brought dresses constantly
After trying on quite a few dresses I ended up choosing the first dress (which I actually picked off the rack myself), it was also under budget, and I cannot wait to get it in my size. Overall it was very a smooth, relaxed and accommodating experience:)

This was the best bridal shop I went to. I had Linda and she was amazing. I was originally looking for a lace A line dress but ended up going with a sparkly beaded ballgown. I am glad she encouraged me to try on different styles and seemed to just know what I wanted! She stuck to my budget and I did not feel pressured to buy anything.

My dress shopping experience was amazing, I've gone to a few other shops before going to shades of white that weren't great and not helpful till I went down to Victoria to give them a try, from the moment you walk in its all positive excitement vibes from the staff and they listen to detail and what you want out of your wedding dress! If I could give more then 5 stars, I definitely would! I had an amazing first dress shopping experience at Shades of White with Chris! She was incredibly knowledgeable and picked out a perfect selection of dresses for me to try on based off my inspiration pictures. I ended up getting the second dress I tried on but I didn’t want to feel like I settled right away with out trying on different styles incase I liked something more then I thought I would! She encouraged me to try things on that were out of my comfort zone and styles that I wouldn’t normally like to make sure that my choice was the right one! The selection of dresses is amazing. I felt truly taken care of during my individual appointment time and could not recommend this boutique enough to any soon-to-be bride! I went into this appointment stressed and thinking I wasn’t going to find my dress right away and was just going in to try on different styles to get a sense of what I liked and didn’t like then would shop around a bit more before deciding. Well not only did I buy the second dress I tried on I also bought a veil as well. What a big weight lifted of my shoulders knowing I found my dress and veil! The Boutique was very well kept and clean! My family, friends and I were so comfortable and it felt like Chris was part of our group! I had a wonderful experience at Shades of White during my appointments and in all my interactions in between. The staff were informative and friendly. During times of COVID restrictions we felt safe and comfortable in the shop. I was nervous going into dress shopping, but the lovely woman helping me was kind and put me at ease. I can't wait to wear my dress on my special day.

We had a situation wherein a graduation dress we had ordered from another supplier online many weeks ago cancelled on us. So we quickly went to Shades of White to find an alternative and had a truly awesome experience. They were helpful in the extreme, professional, and found a dress that was reasonably priced and perfect for our daughter. I highly recommend their service.

Choose this place for your prom dresses ladies! The experience here was 100 times better than the competitor. The staff in this store were top notch and really saved the day for us after we were let down elsewhere. The space at Shades or White is so beautifully laid out, with several brides and their parties in the shop at once, and it didn’t feel like it! They have a great selection and such a boutique feel! Everyone here is so kind and friendly! As a larger girl, I was worried about judgement or dresses not fitting and that was not the case! They have dresses in all sizes and make you try on things out of your comfort zone - in my case anyways - which allowed me to find the perfect dress. I am so grateful! Going back to try on my dress once it came in I had to contact them to get an appointment and they were so easy going and helped me looking at accessories and everything. Highly recommend going to them!

Despite saying yes to a dress elsewhere, Shades of White gave me immaculate service and a wonderful experience each appointment that I had! They have a wonderful selection with a wide variety of styles and designers. Consultants are great between having fun trying on all the styles and helping you get serious trying to find the one! In December of 2021, I emailed Shades of White in hopes of finding a simple wedding dress meant for a backyard venue. My original wedding dress was completed October of the same year, purchased from a different vendor, which was meant for a much bigger venue. Due to a health situation of a family member, my now husband and I decided to have the wedding earlier and cancel all our big plans. I had to organize a smaller wedding in a week.

The same morning I emailed Shades of White, I received a reply back from Monica with photos of potential dresses that will suit my needs and she provided me with same day appointment for dress fitting. I arrived in the afternoon and my dressing room and the dresses were ready for me to try on. I was very impressed and touched above all with her kindness.

They have a wide variety of beautiful dresses in all sorts of styles, prices and sizes. The bridal shop is very clean and inviting. The fitting rooms are spacious and the lighting is perfect. There are ample spaces as well for your bride tribe to sit on while you try some dresses.

I ended up not buying a dress because I managed to remove the petticoat of my original gown, which made it appropriate for a very intimate wedding. When I notified them about it, I still received a graceful reply from Monica. She thanked me for visiting and was delighted to know that I have a dress for my special day. There was no hint of displeasure from their side because, well, after all they did for me, I did not purchase anything from them.

Shades of White truly makes brides of any size feel beautiful. I'm a plus size gal and I was worried I wouldn't find 'The Dress' because I know so few samples come in my size. My consultant didn't let that ruin my experience. She put me in all these fun dresses of varying styles and sizes so I could know what I did and didn't like. Then when we think we had the perfect dress for me, it sadly was way too small so without hesitation she put me in a sheath dress that was my size and then pinned the dress I loved to me. I couldn't stop crying because it really was 'The Dress' and she made me feel just as beautiful with it pinned to me as I would of actually trying it on, even the consultant helping me and the woman that was coming over to measure me starting tearing up too. Talk about feeling special! I never once felt fat or any of those negative feelings all women feel when trying on clothes. Every single dress, she made me feel fun and happy. The experience was everything I always dreamed it would be when I thought about dress shopping. If you want to feel absolutely beautiful no matter your size. Shades of White will give you that moment you always dreamed about when thinking about wedding dress shopping.

I was looking for my 25th wedding anniversary dress (not a wedding white gown) and knew about the Shades of White shop since we got my daughters grad dress there. I have to say from the moment I arrived to the moment I place the order for my dress everything was perfect. The young lady that opened the door for me even without an appointment, to the moment that I met Amanda and simply the way she treated me with so much respect, joy, charisma and a great energy. This is our second time there and I tell you to not be looking around too much there aren’t lots of options in Victoria they are the best. Price was also a welcoming decision for my needs. Most of all the service and the way I was treated. People selling products and services should re-consider their approach and treat people well. 5 starts to Shades of White and I recommend to every women that needs a beautiful dress in Victoria-BC.

My daughter and I didn’t expect to purchase her wedding gown today; we were simply beginning the search. But Chris, our consultant stylist, was exceptionally skilled and not only found the romantic, whimsical dress of her dreams but made it a lovely zero stress, joyful experience. Thank you, Chris.

My partner and I brought his daughter in to find a prom dress.
Due to covid restrictions we booked ahead but had a large variety of times and dates offered. Booking was easy online; less than 5 minutes. We were able to send a list of photos, colours and preferences to enable the stylist to be prepared.
We were greeted promptly and in a relaxed but courteous manner.
The space is clean and roomy with a huge selection.
Our 17 year old was new to the experience but our salesperson knew just the right questions to quickly determine what her wants were. Our daughter was a little nervous and was instantly put at ease and made to feel empowered. She and even ourselves, felt special and attended to.
We came away with a happy young lady which was all we could ask for.
Prices are reasonable; service impeccable.
I would highly recommend this boutique and will be shopping here for any party dresses or formal wear in future.

I cannot say enough good things about this Bridal Shop. Rayan, sadly she is leaving there and going forward in a new career, I am just so grateful to have gotten her as my stylist for my dress fitting. Not only did she know exactly what I wanted and could see my vision but they ordered in something she thought would work amazing and I FELL IN LOVE. I definitely said yes to that dress. And just the whole experience was fantastic. Exactly what a bride wants when she is looking for that perfect dress.

I worked with Chris, and she was an absolute delight! She listened to everything I was saying about what I wanted to try and found the absolute perfect dress that checked all the boxes I had. They didn’t have it in my size as it was a new dress, but she put it on a mannequin and showed me exactly how we could customize the back to be what I wanted.

I ended up going to another bridal salon afterwards and they did have the dress I ended up purchasing in my size, so I did get to see it on with the veil. But I went back to shades of white to purchase it since their customer service was absolutely amazing!

Definitely looking forward to working with them in the future!

I had the most amazing time back in April 2021. Hayley was helping me for my entire appointment. The professionalism she demonstrated and the cleanliness of the store and the dresses was amazing! The change rooms were extremely bright and well light and Hayley's attention to detail was wonderful.

I had 2 dresses I loved but had an appointment elsewhere right after my appointment at Shades of White. Hayley was so kind to say that I could phone back after I was done at the other store and I could potentially be able to get back in for 15 mins that same day to try on the 2 dresses again. I ended up having an awful time at the other store and I couldn't wait to get back to Shades of White! Hayley ended up being able to fit me in for a full appointment again that day. I'm so happy because I found my dress AND it was on a sample sale and was 50% off!

I'm usually an XL in clothes and I was so happy to see that a lot of the dresses were still able to zip up on me. It made me fill special and thin!

While finding my perfect dress I had the pleasure of interacting with 4 different 'Shades of White' employees and all were welcoming and professional. The shop itself is beautiful with a lovely selection of dresses. I would recommend this bridal shop to anyone! Especially a first time shopper who might be a little nervous for any reason

I purchased both a dress for an event and my wedding dress here. The staff, management team, and owner are absolutely lovely. Chris was able to pull my wedding dress from the back based off what I did and did not like and she was bang on! She knew me better than I knew myself. I highly recommend shades of white for formal attire

A lady named Linda helped me try on some veils. She helped me find a dress similar to the one I ordered (I ordered my dress from a different store) so I would have as good an idea as possible of what things would look like. She was kind, patient, accommodating and very helpful - she cared about the details I cared about and came up with solutions for my various concerns. Another lady (Monica?) pitched in too to answer some of my questions. Highly recommend thus store - I also recommend opting for a 1.5 hr appointment, as 1hr goes by very fast!
