Such a gem of a restaurant! Fine dining, awesome food, flavours, service and artistic ambience! Every time it’s an excellent quality of food consistently for many years.

Vegetarian options: Muhogo/Mogo (appetizer Not to be missed!) machicha (spinach), baazi (pigeon peas in green coconut), maragwe (red kidney beans), Chana Masala (chick peas). Naan, Mandazi (African bread), ugali (corn meal).

For meats options: must try their lamb kebabs, chicken curry, Simba’s chicken in pili pili sauce.

Highly recommend, one of its kind place!

I don't think I could say enough about Simba's Grill. From the food to the service, it was an amazing experience! We had chef Simba's BBQ platter. Everything was cooked to perfection. The service was top notch.very friendly, efficient informative.
I'll be back!

Great food! We got the daily special and tilapia fish with Ugali. Has tusker! Nice atmosphere. Could use some music.

The best restaurant in Vancouver! Location was changed from downtown but everything else is still remaining great. Friendly staff with excellent food. Highly recommended.

Ordered their lamb kebabs and Muchuzi chicken. Paired with the Simbas hot sauce; it was delicious.

We tried Simba's Grill, a family run restaurant specializing in East African fusion cuisine.

Busy on a Friday evening. Our waiter, one of the owners, is one of those individuals that chats/sits down with customers.

- Chutneys - we were originally given a second hot sauce but the owner came by, told us it was "too spicy" and took it away. Bizarre. Didn't get to taste that one but the mango chutney was fantastic (a punch in the face, with a slightly mango end note).
- Rice ($5.00)
- Naan ($3.00) - plain and a touch dense.
- Kuku choma ($20.00) - decent char but slightly overcooked and dry.
- Paka ($18.00) - tilapia was overcooked. Curry very light in flavour. Skip it.
- Machicha masala ($18.00) - best dish of the night. 5 good sized prawns. Spinach was a touch bland but hearty.

Today I needed a pick-me up in the form of good hearty adventure meal. So I ended up here. If you like spices and exceptional meals this is the place. The sauces and amazing. Never had east Indian food, today was the start, can't wait to try the rest of the menu.

Superb food, best dinner I’ve ever had in vancouver. The plate menu with a bit of everything totally worth the price. They use coconut milk mix for the naan and they were delicious. Will definitely come back again.

This place is great. We stopped in randomly and had a fantastic meal. The chefs plate was enormous and delicious. The skewers were cooked perfectly and delicious. The sauces are uniquely delicious and pair well with the dishes. It’s a very unique menu with something for everyone. There are vegetarian and meat options. The owner gave us a free cassava appetizer that was amazing. They also have African beer!

Amazing authentic Kenyan food at a decent enough price. The portion sizes are more than reasonable, the guy who runs it doesn’t try and fill your plate with all the extra stuff you don’t want like lettuce and rice which is great. The owner is kind to customers and gives great recommendations as to what you should order. Definitely coming back here

By far the best east african cuisine we have tried east of the rockies! Their chef's platter we thought was awesone and worth it. The 'mbuzi' hot sauce (for those who can handle it) was a very nice compliment to the platter!
Coupled with their personalised service, it is a must visit when in Vancouver!

It's a great African / Indian fusion restaurant. Has a nice seating and the staff were pretty friendly.

What a find! We really enjoyed the food and the service was amazing as the owner helped us understand the food choices and brought out samples to try different combinations. We will definitely go back.

The food is ok. The vegetarian dishes are actually good especially the spinach curry and okra. But the biriyani is definitely not worth having or being called a biriyani it’s just chicken curry put in basmati rice and not the slow cooked authentic Hyderabad Biriyani made the Indian way.

Hidden gem in the neighbourhood. We ordered the cassava root fries, i really enjoyed the texture, perfect for sharing. Chai was really nice and creamy, unsweetened with sugar on the side. The spiced rice in the Biriyani had so much flavor. We got goat curry since we saw reviews raving about it and our expectations were met. We ordered some Naan, wonderful char flavor. And some Mandazi, the flavor reminded me of chinese donut but less oily. Honestly everything was sooo good we plan to come back with family! We would absolutely order everything we got again and try some new things as well. We were so happy at the end of our meal, no disappointments. Returning customers for sure!

This is my absolute favourite restaurant in Vancouver. Their food is so consistent and good. Amazing service everytime! If you are in the area, this is an absolute must try.

I had so many questions about the menu and our server was very kind and informative. The food was awesome, with larger portions than I expected. The chai tea was also very tasty. The chef came around to check in with us and how we were enjoying our meals multiple times.

Wow! I don't often walk out of a restaurant so satisfied. The food was so delicious, I mean I ate until I was stuffed plus some more. The man walking about (who I believe to be the owner) was extremely helpful with what goes well with what. If I'm ever in the Vancouver area again I'll definitely be stopping by.

I’ve had take-out multiple times from Simba’s, but this was my first time eating in. I must say it did not disappoint! I brought my grandmother who grew up in Kenya, and we had a truly wonderful and authentic dinner experience here. To start we had the Muhogo, and I highly recommend it —especially if you've never tried cassava fries. As for the main meal, we had the Mchaguzi wa Chef. It was a spectacular spread of grilled meats that easily filled a table of four. The meats were soft and the sauces provided wonderful flavor and heat. The spinach curry and naan bread were also very comforting and a perfect accompaniment to the meats. We enjoyed the food so much that we ordered more food to go! As the owner suggested, the Mbinda and Jungle Prawns traveled well and even reheated the shrimp were tender and packed with flavor. Like the food, the atmosphere of the restaurant was delightful. All of the servers, and particularly the owner, were incredibly welcoming and contributed to an amazing experience. If you're ever in the area or looking to have some delicious East African cuisine I definitely recommend this place!

My wife and I are long time costumers of this restaurant. We have been following them from down town to the Burnaby/New West location to their current location off boundary.

There is a small group of friends we have that know about simba and we come here for birthdays, anniversaries, any excuse we can find really.

Absolutely phenomenal food, the flavours are complex and delicious, especially with the array of chutneys and sauces you get along with your meal. If I didn't live out of town, I would definitely come here often.:)

The food here was really good. I ordered the chef special and wasn’t expecting so much food to come to the table. The servers were really friendly and the chef comes to greet everyone at the door. Great place for a large group of people to enjoy a Saturday meal.

Great restaurant in Vancouver! Food was so fresh! If stop in, try african dishes like the "muhugo" (deep fried cassava root) and "machicha masala" (spinach cooked in tomato curry with lamb) and "ugali" just delicious!

I’ve only had take out from here until about two weeks ago when I went to the restaurant for dinner with a friend. Great environment overall, delicious food. The restaurant owner was also around and made sure we had everything. The staff were also great. Will definitely return soon.

After reading all the great reviews and paying $100 I was expecting great feast and flavors. Chicken was ok. Meat skewers were a bit salty and ribs chewy. Dipping sauces very watery. The most disappointing part was the salad. Mangoes were green and I didn't get any dressing. Attached is a picture of the "salad".

The meal was so good. The "chef's platter for 2" can comfortably feed 3 people.

Try the cheesecake. You will always come back for more. Absolutely, fantastic.

Ordered Muchuzi (the curry) and Mishkaki. I don’t normally go for goat when it comes to meat selection, but their goat is absolutely delicious and so soft! Their naan bread is really great to be eaten with the curry along with the condiments. Besides, the owner was so friendly and gave us complimentary naan bread knowing that it was our first time trying African food. Definitely highly recommended!

Wow this place was amazing! Everything was so delicious with huge servings. The African bread was soooo good! Everything from appetizers to desert was delectable. The staff are lovely as well. I highly recommend this place!

Fantastic food. The platter for 2 is a must! So many delicious and unique flavors plus great portions.

Had chicken and rice to go. It was an excellent lunch, but it's a beautiful restaurant and I'm excited to try it for dinner!

We got the shared plate for two, it was a very generous portion and alot of different meat assortment. Lamb, beef, chicken and fried fish on a bed of rice with fresh salad and a spinach dip with some Naan bread. It was tasty but I found the grilled chicken to be very dry.

SIMBA'S Grill excellent hole in the wall kinda place. I Have driven past many times and after actually trying today I'm impressed beyond belief. At first it was very quiet at 5pm but the owner seemed to be biding his time because by 6pm many tables became full and were very obviously enjoying the experience as the Owner visited each table. Feeling sorry for the skip folks. Amazing food, better service, relaxing and pleasant vibes for sure. Be prepared to have taste buds elevated not for the bland lovers.

The food here is really good, and this is the best customer service I’ve had at a restaurant. The owner takes out time to greet every customer and make them feel so welcome. For food, I haven’t had one item that was not good! We drive from Surrey, and the drive is so worth it! A must try!

Been at Simba's every time I've been to Vancouver and it never disappoints. The food is fresh and tastes awesome. Their Mishkaki and Surwa is must try who is new to the place. My friend and I particularly liked the yam fries. Not too oily but at the same time perfectly fried with a light and crispy texture. The hospitality is unparalleled as well.

Simba's Grill was a very pleasant surprise. Food and service was well prepared and spiced to the very perfect level. And quantities were generous. We will be going again soon.

The super friendly owner suggested we split a mixed grill platter and some muhugo (deep fried cassava root) for the 3 of us. More than enough food and we all enjoyed the unique flavors. Would definitely go back and try more of their dishes.

Best place for East African food (Tanzania, Kenyan, Ugandan). Simba and his staff are always very attentive to our needs. Love it and will continue to go here.

Went looking for something different and discovered Simba’s. Food was delicious, both the barbecue and the curry dishes, with a range of tasty sauces to mix and match. The owner was welcoming and made great recommendations, and service was fast and friendly. Prices are reasonable for the size and quality. Amazing find. Recommend to anyone looking for a new favourite.

I ordered take out dinner and it was fast. I love the sauce they matched with Simba chicken. There are in total 6 sealed in different containers. But it was a bit pricey to be honest. I worked nearby and cannot afford lunch there. Based on the price, each dish can serve at least 2 people, in which I hope the owner can think about single person need.

Delicious food! Me and my bf have been going here for the past three years. Initially at their vancouver location and now their burnaby location. Their casava fries are to die for- I love dipping them in the spicy mango sauce combined with the coconut sauce! All dishes we've tried so far have been a hit!

I barely give a review for 4 stars but Simba’s grill deserves it! I love how the food reminds me of home and asian food. The kiyoga reminds me of indian curry and the chicken reminds me of my home (Indonesia) food chicken. Everything here is so amazing and you should definitely try this east african food! The cassava is amazing and I personally love it so much. The dryness and the crispiness of them just so much love! Definitely try this you won’t regret it!

Took a chance on this spot and it did not disappoint. The food here is unique and delicious. They provide a variety of sauces and dip that are super tastefully created. Definitely worth a try!

It was a tasty curry, not spicy at all, but they provide you with a hot sauce among other sauces at the table to compliment your food. The curries don't come with rice or bread or anything.
Ugali $5
Think of it like a bland, dense, corn bread. We cut it in half to split it between the two of us, and mashed it on our plates to accompany our curry and okra dishes. This was the the way to do it, it paired perfectly.
Semaki Bites $17
Tasty deep-fried boneless Tilapia pieces, best enjoyed hot with the accompanying sauces. Would recommend this over the Whole Fried Tilapia $20
Mbinda $14
This was the highlight of the meal! Perfectly cooked (not soggy or mushy) and uniquely spiced okra, has some heat to it.
Raas Malai $5
Normally served at Indian weddings. Not too sweet, has cardamom, cream, ricotta cheese, topped with crushed pistachio and sliced almonds. A beautiful finish to our meal with some chai tea.

I noticed the menu has some Indian influences. I'm guessing that this is because there are many Indians living in Africa? All in all, this was a great experience.

Loved the experience! The waiter (who I believe might also be the owner or chef) was very knowledgable and helpful. He even brought us some samples from foods that we inquired about from the menu. Highly recommend trying the curries especially Paka (coconut curry). Already planning to visit again with my girlfriend!

Went here with my girlfriend few weeks ago and the food was excellent. We ordered the curry chicken and the portion sizes are big enough for two is looking for a light lunch/dinner. The service was very good and wait time is not long. The spicy mango sauce is very good but be careful! They can be very spicy!:).

One of the best places to eat in Vancouver hands down, their ability to make east african/indian food taste so fresh and authentic consistently is the reason why i'm willing to make a 2 hour transit ride without contemplation. I'd highly recommend any of their BBQ's as well as any vegetarian dish, you wont be disappointed. The staff and owners are very friendly and courteous, a must go place!
