Simon's Medical Acupuncture

9 years ago I was in a car accident, and have been periodically experiencing pain in my neck, shoulder and arm. I have tried many different treatments but nothing really eased the pain. Recently a friend of mine suggested Simon’s Medical Acupuncture in Coquitlam, and already after several treatments my pain had decreased dramatically. After 3 weeks of treatments, I barely feel any pain at all! I am super happy with the service and experience and will be recommending this clinic to everyone!

I have been suffering from thyroid dysfunction, malabsorption and various inflammations for six years when I visited Dr. Hong for the first time. I was exhausted, my body was in pain and weak. I started naturopathic supplements and Dr. Hong's treatment at the same time, three months ago. Since then, I feel way better, I'm more energetic and achieved remission regarding my thyroid problems and other symptoms. Of course, I can't claim that his treatment on its own have caused the remission but I'm sure, it's one of the key factors. Dr. Simon and his son took really good care of my injury. I had my wrist bone fractured during mountain biking. My bone was healed but there's clogged blood in the wrist area. After a few sessions, I was able to use my hand naturally and without pain. So glad I've found this place. Thank you so much!

I have had chronic pain in my wrist for over half a year due to an old unhealed sports injury. I wasn't even able to put even a fraction of my weight on it, and it has impeded my daily functions. I felt constant pain 24/7.

After seeing Dr. Hong for about two months, my chronic wrist pain has gone down almost completely, and I can even hold weight on it again. Even one session made a huge difference with my pain. My range of motion feels better than it was before the injury.

I was very apprehensive to try acupuncture at first as I am not a big fan of needles, but I was in such a pain that I was willing to try anything!
My pain was so bad because of my sciatica that I couldn't walk! However, after just one session I felt relief! After the second session I was able to walk freely with barely any pain and after my third session I felt Brand New!:) My 'oil change' was successful! I am very grateful to Dr. Simon and will recommend him to anyone without hesitation.

Dr. Hong and his son are incredible! I had went to them with a very old lower back injury (20+ years ago) that had been resistant to all kinds of treatment. After just a few sessions the pain and stiffness were gone. While his unique technique may hurt a little the results are totally worth it!

I was referred to Dr. Hong about a year ago, for a problem that my surgeon, 2 physiotherapists, GP, chiropractor and massage therapist could not resolve. Simon and his team administered 4 or 5 treatments and I was up and moving, free of pain and accompanying severe limp. Since then, I have seen Simon for other issues and he never disappoints. Simon and his team are always so kind and welcoming and i especially appreciate a cookie and a chocolate when i leave. He has become my first stop in my health plan. Dr. Simon Hong aka Dr. Torture is top notch when it comes to his knowledge and practice in acupuncture. I had tennis elbow going on for over 5 years, been to other acupuncturist, physio and doctors. They never were able to fix my problem until i saw Dr. Hong. In between my tennis elbow sessions, he also fixed my sprained ankle. Truly unbelievable, i can not say enough about how great this family run office is. Very professional, friendly and caring.
The only bad news is that Dr. Hong keeps threatening his patients he's going to retire soon. Let's hope he carries on for a very long time, we need more people like him in the medical industry.

I wasn't sure I wanted to see an acupuncturist nor was I confidant that I would get any relief from what was serious debilitating back pain. However I am most happy to say that not only did I get considerable relief
i am now feeling that Dr. Hong will be able to resolve my back issues to the point where I can once again go about my normal daily routine. This all comes with being made to feel comfortable and safe in the hands of someone who not only knows his craft but who shares it with good humor and the utmost confidence! Dr. Hong is great. I started to see him a month ago for lower back pain (sciatica). I started to see results after the first treatment and have continued to improve. He is helping my body heal itself and I am hopeful to avoid surgery. My pain level has reduced and my ability to move and walk have improved. I recommend Dr Simon Hong and son for treatment. Simon's medical acupuncture has been a godsend. I had been hearing about the magic of Dr. Hong (Sr,) for well over 20 years and I finally went. I have multiple problems - they started working on loosening up my rusty spine and after 7 weekly treatments, I'm able to bend and move more with way less pain than before. Now we are onto my left knee and I anticipate similar results. The whole family is very caring and lovely, and this is a safe space to be healed.

Dr. Hong was recommended by my brother in law. I came in with excruciating pain in my right hip and after 4 treatments I have noticed a great improvement. I've been getting acupuncture treatment with Dr. Simon, the practitioner for over five weeks and I have seen very good results since the first treatment. He is very dedicated to his patients. I came into his office, without knowing I had pinched a nerve in my neck. I wasn’t able to move my neck for about a day or 2. With just 1 treatment he regained about 70% of my mobility and took almost all the pain away. I’ve been seeing Dr. Simon once a week since and can say he’s done wonders for my neck/back. He has taken tremendous amounts of pressure and “noise” out of my troubled area. 10/10 would recommend!

Honestly. I have never met a kinder person let alone medical practitioner. I was unable to lift my own head from my pillow and was sleeping in a lawn chair when I arrived at the office. Dr. Simon showed interest and compassion when I described my ailment. Three weeks later I have full range of motion in my neck for the first time in years. I herniated the l5s1 disc of my spine 6 months ago. It was a debilitating injury that after months of treatment with a chiropractor left me in chronic pain and taking gabapentin, tylenol and advil and was still unable to function in anything resembling a normal way. I had searing sciatic pain and constant intense nerve sensation in my left leg along with altered sensation (numbness) and mobility (foot drop).

A friend recommended that I try Dr. Hong after they had avoided surgery for a similar injury. To be frank - the treatment is painful. Dr. Hong's mantra is "no pain no gain" but the next morning after my first treatment i woke up with so much improvement that I felt hope for the first time in a long time that I might be able to heal and get my life back. It has been about two months now of treatment and am no longer on ANY medication. The numbness is now gone and i have regained a lot of control of my foot again. My range of movement and mobility has improved a lot and although I still have a way to go I can't express enough the gratitude I feel to be on the path to recovery and I only wish that I started seeing Dr. Hong sooner than I did!

Dr. Simon is the most amazing doctor. He not only got rid of the pain to my rotator cuff tare in 3 days. He is now working on a very bad neck problem that I have been suffering from for 40 years. Starting with a bad car accident that left me with whip-lash and a severely torn shoulder, back and a arm I could not use. It never did heel properly and I have been in constant pain with the injury and migraines ever since. The vertebrae in my neck and upper back area has since been deteriorating causing pinched nerves in my neck and upper back. This has caused excruciating sharp stabbing pain down my arm with numbness. Dr. Simon has been working on my neck area and working his way down the spine. The pain in my arm is almost completely gone and my migraines have decreased dramatically. I am still a work in progress but I am now able to go back to work and start to regain my life free of pain.

I suffered from severe neck, upper back pain and radiating pain down my arm, due to onset of arthritis for more than a year. Physiotherapy was initially recommended by my family doctor. After 8 months of Physiotherapy treatment there was minimal reduction in pain on and off, but it used to come back. I then tried Massage therapy, which was a little better but not by much. I have suffered from frequent muscular lower back injuries for most of my life. Last year between running, a patient injuring me at work, and then a chiropractor, I was sent into a spinal pain crisis and admitted to hospital for six days where I was slotted for surgery for three herniated discs. I had severe radiculopathy and literally couldn't walk. I opted out of surgery wishing to try conservative treatment. The last nine months have been literal hell - I've been off work since June and have been failed time and time again by multiple physicians, specialists, healthcare providers and treatments that have not helped, one doctor of which who told me my symptoms were in my head and also put me on bed rest for three months, which I now know is an archaic, detrimental treatment for back injuries. I've dealt with chronic nerve pain and sciatica for months every single day, with an endless amount of flareups and setbacks that has taken a mental and physical toll.
I've received countless recommendations from people saying "this person can and will fix you! " and after hearing about Dr Simon from my friends mom (who has seen Dr. Simon for over 20 years), I reluctantly started seeing him three months ago. It has taken time and considerable patience (I did not start feeling better for many weeks and was often quite sore after treatment), but I can honestly say that between swimming and Dr. Simon's treatments, I am finally experiencing relief and am now approximately 60-70% better. Given my history through this injury, I remain cautiously optimistic and I still experience pain, but it is considerably less and I can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel. I feel like I may finally be starting to get my life back. Both Dr. Simon and his son are incredibly knowledgeable and kind. Their treatments may seem bizarre, but they work. I continue to see Dr. Simon and have already recommended him to numerous friends.

Dr Simon, is amazing, his treatment is extraordinary. I went in with pinched nerve on my various neck area that i was in tremendous pain. I have been dealing with constant neck and shoulders pain for about 4 years, before I was lucky to find Dr. Simon.
I was waiting until I am at least 50% better to write this review, and now I can honestly say I am feeling much better, after all other treatments you can possibly think about didn’t help (RMT, chiropractors, different acupuncture, osteopath) etc’.

My 2 cents-
- Be patient. I saw no improvement for the first few treatments, which can be quiet frustrating,
But luckily believed him it would eventually help and kept coming back.
- Combine his treatment with constant stretching and correct posture.

Today I can say that while the pain is still there, it lessened to a degree when I don’t have to take painkillers before I go to sleep, and even not Tigerbalm, and I feel much better then when I came to him initially.

No pain, no gain! Simon and his wife Noel are such lovely people to be greeted by with the famous words of Dr. Hong "torture time". I've had chronic neck pain from intense training from teens to early 20's. Ever since I began my appointments with Dr Hong I noticed the difference from my next consecutive appointments. I started feeling less pain and soreness from daily activities as well as workouts/teaching and recognized more mobility in my neck. I began feeling 50% better from the first 3-4 appointments to now feeling 80% better that before.

I am a patient with scheuermann's disease and scoliosis. I've been dealing with this for the past 8 years. I would experience pain and discomfort daily from simple things like walking/standing for too long. Other doctors told me there was nothing I could do.

I am extremely happy that I found Dr. Simon. After 6 sessions I can confidently say that I feel at least 50% - 60% better. This is HUGE as my condition/pain is chronic.

I had a severe severe sciatica pain attack due to chronic degenerative joint changes in my lower back. Dr. Hong's acupuncture procedure has been amazing. I suffered a lot of pain from a herniated disk and several compressed disks in my lower back.
I was very impressed at how much pain relief I had after the first visit.with continued visits my posture is better, the pain has eased, and circulation has improved to the point that there is a healing process. I'm very grateful for his help. He makes you at ease and fun sense of humor.

I started with my right arm and hand sore and numb 3 months ago, and treated with massage and physio. The soreness gradually faded away, but the stiffness and tightness in my index finger stays until Simon started his amazing work. I would say the treatment improved the issue at least 50%. Hopefully I can get rid of the hangover numbness and weaknesses after a few more treatment. Great job, Simon!

I have been having headaches for years, triggered from bad posture and working at a desk job for long periods of time. Tylenol doesn't work on me anymore and the numerous massages don't seem to relief the sore neck and tight shoulders. Dr. Hong was splendid. Though I'm super terrified of needles, his philosophy is no pain no gain. Just bite through the pain and you will be fine! After 1st treatment, I felt way better. It is a very odd sensation for first timer. When he had the needle in and some electricity feeling and a heat lamp to roast the area, it feels like someone is hammering a needle in consistently. It is uncomfortable at first but you will relax and melt into it. Then the cupping happens. Again, just bite through the pain and it will be over before you know it. Strongly recommend him (and his son, Michael!) if you are out of options and want to do whatever it takes to take away the pain you have endured forever.

Dr Simon is the best! I came in with really bad acid reflux. The doctors gave me all sorts of medications and nothing was working! My next step was to have acid reflux surgery, I was so scared and did not want to have surgery done. Someone referred me to Dr Simon so I went! THANK GOODNESS I DID! I am so much better now! I have only had 5 treatments so far and already feel 70 percent better! I definitely recommend Dr Simon!

Dr. Hong fixed my left arm and left shoulder last year after 12 visits. It was called 50 year old shoulder problem in Chinese. It was so true because I got this pain shortly after I turned 50. I was so happy after Dr. Hong healed me, but this year, my right arm started pain again a couple of months ago, unfortunately, I have to go back to him again. So far, I had treatment twice, hoping it won't take 12 times to fix my right arm. Really grateful for Dr. Hong, his wife and his son Michael.
