I have gone here several times and tried every time to get help and questions answered and I have given up. This summer I was shopping for patio stones and couldn’t get any help on the products I was interested in including price, how long would it take to come in etc. I ended up buying from the Slegg in Sidney and Dave there was awesome. The most recent experience was looking at the ixl stone veneer for redoing my fireplace - again even though I walked around looking and went to Customer Service the three trips I went they gave no help and told me there really isn’t anyone to help with those products. I ended buying from K2 stone and they were great.

I love shopping with Slegg lumber. They pretty much have everything you've need to build your home. From large projects to small projects they will suit your needs. They also offer delivery service. Sleggs has many locations. They have a Milwaukee van full of tools that can show up right to your construction site. All you have to do is give Jason Schneider a call. He will gladly bring the tool crib to the site. If you talk to him nicely, he might be able to bring you supplies as long as they fit in the rolling tool crib.

Are you Tired of going into a building supply store to be met with a staff member who has been there 2 weeks and trained for five minutes?

Stephanie in the customer service department is definitely on point and knows here job well, along with product knowledge and pricing and how to get you the information & equipment you went there looking for in the first place.
I called in half hour to closing with a rather large list of tools I needed she was friendly helpful & beyond professional. The very next morning she e-mailed the quote, with everything I had listed along with wait times for the tools that would be special ordered.

You definitely need a raise, because I imagine you do your job, along with with others on a daily basis.

A1 service.

I would give them less than one star if I could. This place has gone down hill big time! I have witnessed contractors with top discount pricing accounts pay higher prices than you would at retail stores. This is why retail stores are always out of product, the contractors go to them too. I can walk to slegg but drive to HD instead. I told the general manager this and he said we don't compete with retail stores.

This location is a joke. Incompetent staff and bad attitudes all around. The Langford yard shouldn't allow customers on the property. Let the other locations handle the walk in traffic, people that actually understand good customer service.

Concerns about some high pricing have now been resolved after communication with Slegg's marketing who have been responsive and constructive. I am a satisfied customer again!

DON"T WASTE YOUR GAS! No staff to help, messy, dirty and many items don't have a price making it tough to shop. When I did find staff at the service counter, they didn't want to move off their chairs to help me buy flooring. I went to a competitor and got great service and spent $4000 on laminate flooring and underlay.

Hands down the most incompetent building supply you'll find, anywhere. While building a home over the last year, and dealing with slegg, every one of our deliveries has been wrong, from damaged materials, wrong sized items, items we didn't ask for, or just not including large portions of our order. Find through three sales reps, each one as bad as the previous one. From a contractor, don't bother walking in these doors, go anywhere else (prices are better at home Depot, and home hardware as a walk in compared to a full discount account at Slegg)

Don't believe their narrative that they care about any of this either, there is no desire to change within this company, or do anything to keep a positive relationship with contractors.

If I could give less than a star I would, I went to return an item 2 older gentleman immediately assumed the item was broken and wouldn’t accept it, to make things worse they told me they would have to send it to the manufacturer to make sure it was not damaged and that it would take a month to get an answer extremely bad experience definitely not shopping there again.went to return it to the slegg in admirals and they gave me my money back no questions asked.

I bought 24 1x6 but only threw 20 in my car. Upon realizing my error I returned to Slegg and explained the error. They said no problem and to pick up the missing ones and let the gate know what happened. It was all so simple to resolve and I appreciated their quick response.

Go to Homedepot. They won't do returns off your card and without a reciept, like homedepot does. I returned to full pieces of plywood I bought from them and had no reciept and they would not refund it. GO ELSEWHERE

Staff in contract sales couldn't do a surface area calculation " the yard staff can't help because he's going on his break and lent me a tape measure, I found the materials myself, most people there are doing the minimum they have to as far as I can see,

NEVER order a kitchen from Slegg! I recently ordered a kitchen from Slegg that was a design disaster. The designer refused to meet in person, doing everything by email, took 4 weeks to do the design and continually refused to listen to the customer needs. This resulted in a ridiculous design. For example the kitchen sink was 8" off-center to the kitchen window and halfway under the side cupboards on one side. Even though you are given no specifications of the cabinets you are expected to sign off on the design making everything the customers fault. Slegg will not take responsibility it is all your fault. Never Slegg!

They have a great selection but you have to be very careful on how much you are paying for some items. As a contractor of renovations and new construction shopping around has saved me thousands of dollars over just shopping at Slegg. As a non drywaller I was paying 20$ a sheet more than a regular drywaller.
But saving 10 dollars on almost any given box of nails when bought from Rona cobblehill.
Gone are the good old days of Slegg lumber being island owned and operated and working with us little guys.

Went to Slegg on recommendation from another store that couldn't assist me with a garage door opener installation. Staff were very helpful in getting a quote straight away from the store and just needed to arrange with a scheduler for a technician to assess the property and do the installation. 3 weeks later I've followed up telephonically, emailed the support centre which found its way to a director to assist with the process and I haven't yet heard back. I'll need to go somewhere else unfortunately. Not sure what causes a 3 week delay in finding out when to schedule someone but it's not going to turn into 4 weeks. Home Depot has scheduled something for the end of this week after a 48 hour turnaround. Real pity as Slegg's quote was better but at the end of the day if they can't get the work done then what good is the saving in price.

Edit/ update: have yet to hear from the manager post the response given to this review.

Jason, Garage Door Manager, helped us decide whether to restore our 30 year old door or replace it. We found the door design and colour we wanted and the installed price was very reasonable. Jason came to our out of town home a day or so later to measure our door and determine installation requirements. He quickly sorted out a colour related issue by calling the manufacturer. The door arrived on time and the installer, Gord, did a super job.

We ended up with a door manufactured in Alberta from Canadian steel that perfectly matches our home's exterior. Slegg exceeded our expectations. Jason and Gord made that happen.

Staff not trained and can't find pricing on their products, no one at customer service, no one know what they sell. Overall just a really bad experience would not recommend.

I own a carpentry business and I usually have a good experience at Slegg.

Here's some advice from me as a client to all other clients: approach the staff in a friendly matter. Because some of them are a bit grumpy and need a little encouragement to help you. And when they do help you after they found out that you won't give up that easily, you will get what you want.
Most of the times I choose Slegg over Lowes or HD because I feel good about that store.
And this is for the staff: thank you for showing up at work during this pandemic, It is much appreciated.

I have been to the store in on Sooke Rd a couple times and find the store poorly laid out, poor selection. The website doesn't allow for price comparison. As a contractor and small businessman who last year bought $81k of material mostly from Rona I need to be able to find the best materials prices for quotes and ultimately for my customers.
Slegg website doesn't allow for price comparison as it doesn't display prices. Slegg webpage manager, Sales Administrator, Ms Hollingsworth explained that the website is set up for their customers not the general public.
I may be the later but certainly I'm not going to be the former.

Update; I just noticed your response Brian. In my review, I mentioned that I tried to talk to someone about the changes to the store. When I told the cashier that I had had some problems with the store, she offered to help.
I told her that it was probably better for someone above her. She then put me through to your voice mail. You never called me back. That says a lot to me. Have a great day.

Long review! Sorry!

I live not too far from Slegg in Langford and pop in there to get items I need as they're closer than Home Depot and Lowes. As I said in a phone conversation with a person in customer service the other day, I try to support the local guys. However, it's getting more difficult.

Often, shelves seem to be missing a lot of items and for a long time. Check out the screw section lately!

Quality of wood in the yard is often very poor. Even some of the yard guys agree.

Price matching? Forget it! A sheet of plywood was $11 more than Home Depot. I was actually quoted $18 for a pencil post the other day! Wow! Price changed to $5 something when I called back. Same post just over $4 at Buckerfields. I have a load coming.

Customer service folks often seem bothered when you look for information and tell you to ask the cashier.

I will give credit where it's due. The yard guys are great. They're quick to offer help finding products, picking through piles for good stuff then tidying the pile up again, cutting pieces and more.

I tried to chat with someone about all of this, but I guess they don't care. Things have sure changed over the past few years!

Went to slegg as a local company, Spent over $2000 on materials, had a week to gather for delivery, on day of the delivery no call no show, after several phone calls and eventually having to go to the store to Find out where my order was, then to be informed they failed to fill the Order and will be making delivery over two separate days as they didn’t fill the order yet! Very very dissatisfied!

One of the worst customer experiences we have had in recent memory.all the staff we spoke with trying to get help were uninterested and borderline rude. We have shopped at the Slegg store in Esquimalt/view royal and the service was excellent and super friendly, but don't expect that to happen at the Langford store.

Slegg's has consistently been priced 20-30% more than any other material supplier in the Victoria area for the past few months. Staff are unwilling to price match and there is no discount for any accounts anymore. It's shame because we try to support local companies (I understand they were bought and no longer owned by the Slegg Family) but when you're paying way more than anywhere else and get worse service, it's hard to keep shopping at Slegg's.

Staff is inattentive, computers are old and slow, products are over priced compared to other hardware stores. Paid $9 a box more for drywall mud than at home Depot. I have had extremely slow experiences here in the past so I try to avoid whenever possible. I was less then 10 minutes away so I decided to come here to buy 4 boxes of all purpose drywall mud, roll of tape and 2 corner bead. There was not one customer in front of me, I knew where everything was and it still took 45 minutes from the time I entered the store to the time I left. Drive somewhere else to save some money and time.

Called ahead to check stock of product and price, told a price, drove large trailer down 120km to slegg Langford to be told an outlandish price compared to what I was quoted, wouldn’t even entertain price I was told that is comparable to ever other place around. Waste of time and fuel driving here won’t be shipping at slegg again

Since the change in owners I've never seen such an empty store. It seems all they have in stock is display items which they dont sell.
I'm going to mention there terrible customer service again because there not only useless, they send you on wild goose chases across the island because there useless and cant be bothered to update inventory

Awesome service, Awesome prices. I needed to build a shed that matched the exterior of my house with Hardie Siding. All of the staff were super helpful getting the Hardie Siding, Lumber, Trim, Roofing and Flooring loaded up and helping me find all the items I needed. All I had was a weird paint code from the previous home owner and the gentleman in the Paint Department was able to cross reference and get it exact.

They sell such a vast array of building products I can't imagine ever needing to go anywhere else and Nicole at contract sales is so knowledgeable and pleasant, it's an unbeatable combination!

Called for help and pricing for a custom inside door, provided measurements and discussed w Kevin. He indicated he would get a quote to me back that morning and I waited, tried calling again the following day with no assistance to get through to the door dept in Langford. Ended up going to a competitor and had good service and pricing. Custom Door is installed. Slegg is very busy and you may get lost like I did.

Slegg Lumber has to be the worst company to deal with. The staff there ignore you at best of times. We have gone through a new home build and unfortunately had to use Slegg. It does not matter how many different times we have shopped there. The service is horrendous. I have been ignored, trying to buy my closet package. Waiting in line while 3 guys helped one contractor then to be told, Sorry we don't know. My husband tried to return left over boards from the finishing package. Keep in mind this stuff arrived scuffed up. He was told that they would not take it back as it has marks on it. We stored it in the garage and had it covered up even in the garage. Slegg just simply said no, even to a couple pieces we purchased earlier that day. Management really needs to take a good look at their operation and fix it. You are most certainly not customer focused.

Called to find out if they had pier blocks for 6x6 posts. The phone rang for quite a while before being answered. After I waited on hold for nearly 10 minutes, the customer service person returned to tell me that the sales associate was busy and would I like them to call me back. I thanked her and told her no; when they can't even give you a basic answer as to something like pier blocks, I can't be bothered wasting my time or spending my money in their store. I have noticed the service at this store going downhill over the past two years, and they are invariably more expensive than other stores in the area. Lowe's has an exterior lumber yard too, and their prices are so much better; buying my deck materials there saved me at least $500. I will be avoiding Slegg in the future whenever possible. By the way, I would have given zero stars if possible.

If I could have chosen “no stars” I would have. We purchased 800 sq ft of engineered hardwood flooring to have installed in our home after bringing home a sample board to see what it would look like. Once installed by a reputable installer we noticed blue spots and streaks throughout our flooring. We immediately discussed with Slegg and were told that they hadn’t noticed this and that our skid was defective. I’ve asked Slegg to refund our cost of the flooring and the cost of the install because we are now going to have to remove this flooring and redo the project again. The flooring was stapled and glued to our plywood as directions stated. After pulling skids of this flooring off the warehouse floor Slegg sent out the manufacturer of the flooring to see our install. The manufacturer told us that colour variation was common in ABCD flooring grade. Problem is we purchased ABC grade and this is not acceptable quality for a product of this grade. Previous to this visit the manufacturer stated a yellow filler was used but during this visit he insisted a black filler was used. Regardless, as a consumer we are out over $9,000 installed defective flooring and Slegg doesn’t care. We will be proceeding to court over this because it is Slegg’s responsibility to ensure they only deal with reputable manufacturers that produce quality material. Don’t waste your money dealing with Slegg because at the end of the day they don’t care about their customers or their contractors. Shame!

I have slowly felt the customer service at this location eroding, and today's experience made it my last. I have never been surrounded by so many employees who were unable or unwilling to help me. I was passed off to multiple people in different directions and the last straw was my walk all the way to the far material yard for some roofing material where I was met by an employee who didn't know anything about the items, or the prices and was not interested in finding the answers. I would rather drive kilometres out of my way and be acknowledged as a valued customer than to give my business to an establishment that doesn't seem to care.
