We ordered the pork bulgogi lunch combo and beef tofu soup. The soup was good but the bulgogi was drowning in sauce and more than half of it was onions. There were maybe 5 pieces of pork? It was really disappointing as the place is highly rated. I would recommend sticking to the regular menu and not the lunch menu.

The service is ok. The restaurant was not busy but the servers were mostly busy with take out orders.

IF YOU HAVE BEEN VACCINATED OUT OF PROVINCE, YOU WILL NOT BE SEATED!

Unfortunately, individuals who have been vaccinated out of province, despite showing their provincial proof of vaccination, will not be allowed to enter. While I respect the restaurant's desire to uphold the safety of their staff and other customers, it is quite disappointing that those who been vaccinated elsewhere are turned away even when the BC government policy states on their proof of vaccination site, under "People who don't have B. C ID" that such individuals must produce their own provincial vaccine record and valid gov't photo ID, which my friend who had recently moved from Alberta did. Attempting to reason with and discuss the situation with the front of house greeter, whilst pulling up our medical and vaccination records from the official Government of Alberta website proved no better, as she was unwilling to accept such forms of vaccination records. It may be best to reconsider visiting this restaurant if any member of your party does not have a BC Vaccine Card.

My wife, son and I went to a highly anticipated meal at So Hyang last weekend and could not have been more disappointed. All three of us are from Ontario and were visiting Canada's paradise, B. C, for two weeks. This was to be our last night out at restaurants and we had used the Ontario Covid passports that we had all downloaded from the Ontario government website. Everywhere from Kelowna to Salmon Arm to Lillooet to Vancouver we were received by restaurants with open arms.until we visited So Hyang. When we were asked by the greeter for our Covid vaccination documents we, as we had done for 12 days, displayed our Covid passport on our phones. She RUDELY told us they were no good and she needed the printed copy. Correctly and calmly we informed her that it was a simple task to fraudulently create an Ontario government Covid passport on paper. We even offered, again calmly, to access the Ontario government website and display our Covid certification. Again, she rudely told us to leave and would NOT let us speak to the owner. In my 40 years of International travel I have never been treated with such hostility and disrespect. I only wish I could give a review with a large negative number.

My family and I were visiting from Ontario and have been to many other restaurants in the Vancouver area using our government issued proof of vaccination. So we were extremely surprised when we got to So Hyang and were turned away because they did not accept our proof of vaccination. Nothing we could do would convince them to let us in, including showing proof directly from the Ontario government's website. The greeter at the front was one of the most obtuse people I have ever met. Awful experience, and no surprise that the place was completely empty at 5: 30pm. They don't want customers!

WARNING TO OTHER PROVINCE TRAVELERS - This place don't take out of province vaccine records and passports, despite that being the official policy of the BC Vaccine Regulations.

I recently moved over from Alberta and got my shots there. Came here with my Alberta Vaccine Passport and PDF version of my immunization record and gov ID. But server claimed that the store policy was to not take digital versions of it as it might be "faked". She said I would have to go take the PDF I have on my device and print it off? Like that makes it harder to fake somehow.

Pretty ridiculous experience overall, out of province travelers beware.

I’ve been a regular for several years now. I have a sensitive stomach and this is one of the few restaurants I feel safe dining at. It also helps that the food tastes absolutely amazing every single time (dine in or to go) and the staff is efficient, kind, and patient. Thanks So Hyang!
21 November 2021 14:37
Main dishes are good but the spicy fried chicken was rather mediocre. Good taste for good value, nothing spectacular.
12 November 2021 6:38
Went here because of the ratings and was really disappointed. First their staff at the desk wasn’t friendly. Second, their food are way TOO overpriced for the portions and quality they give you. The portions are SO small and also oily. 1 dish would cost at least $20 when you can order the same thing at different Korean restaurants for at least $15 with better and bigger portions. For the price you pay, you would at least expect something to be better than other Korean restaurants, but nope! Definitely, will not come back again.
11 November 2021 5:23
Mediocre Korean food, dishes can be too sweet. Seafood pancakes were too thick and too much flour. This place can serve your cravings but is not sophisticated.
23 October 2021 13:26
Order beef tofu soup for take out order. There is only little beef like a nail slice.bad experience.
19 October 2021 3:35
Be wary of ordering last-call here. Apparently their definition of last-call is takeout. The server handed us a takeout item, and we thought they handed to the wrong table. Turns out our last call came in a take-out package. Speechless. A first for me.

An advice if you do come: remember to bring your own cutlery, drinks and side dishes because they won’t serve any unless you ask. If they do, consider buying a lottery ticket afterwards.

This used to be my go-to Korean restaurant. Not anymore. Food is fine. Service is in my nomination for worst of 2021.

If you don’t care about service, then ignore this 1 star review. Their food is fine.
02 October 2021 3:41
Delicious food, they allowed me to change the beef in the bibimbap to tofu, more vegetables or mushrooms. Nice atmosphere, polite servers and workers, good place to have any meal desired.
01 October 2021 5:42
Old chef and waitress left: (Now the recipe changed for my fave dish Tang soo yook, it was awful. I have no doubt that the other menus changed as well. Pick up times is now 30-40mins for this dish alone and no more fish cake side dish, seaweed instead. Used to be my go to korean place, I need to find a new one

It is so nice to have a try of this new restaurant. Hot pot is my favourite, area is very neat and clean. Side dishes r so delicious.
13 September 2021 2:01
I get my korean food here often as I love their food, but the seafood tofu soup was a bit of a disappointment today. It hardly had any seafood in it and soup was a bit blend. I will probably not going to order the seafood tofu soup anymore, but their other dishes has been pretty good

Overall good dining experience. We had the "Korean army" hot pot and the beef kolbi.

Compared to other Korean restaurants, their complimentary appetizer dishes were small in portion and limited in selection. They did replenish them when asked but they weren't that tasty.

The "Korean army" hot pot wasn't as good as I hope; Dolpan in Richmond for instance is much better. Their ingredients is limited; for $34.95 the entire dish is way overpriced for what is inside. It was also quite salty and despite two large glasses of ice water I still drink another liter of water when I got home. The ingredients included spam meat, can sausage, rice cakes, one pan of instant noodle, a few leaves of kimchi, a handful of sliced thin beef, and four slabs of tofu. If you want, you can add udon noodles or glass noodles for an extra $3. The value of the hot pot just wasn't worth the price.

The beef kolbi was tasteful, with a rich aroma and seasoned well. This dish is done above average relative to other Korean restaurants.

Their COVID measures were in place although their plastic curtains separating the tables did not extend to the seat so while the intention was good, it was not thought out thoroughly. Similarly, they can open the front door to allow for air flow but instead they close it throughout. We went on a day when the weather was more than 20 degrees; no reason why the door can't be open.

I don't think I will come back. I'm not sure why some feel they are one of the best Korean restaurants in the Lower Mainland. There are a number of others (Dolpan, Sura, Ta Bom, Kosoo) that are much better, and their prices are comparable.
04 September 2021 23:19
Their lunch combo and side order meals portion is small but price is reasonable. Server is friendly and helpful.
02 August 2021 2:58
This is what I've been looking for! Calm atmosphere, attentive service, you can see alot of care put into their work. I had a hot day today and had a cold noodle soup. I'll come back again and would recommend.
28 July 2021 6:57
So glad to HV Korean food in my area, clean, wished it was possible to have kim bap Good place, quite good food.
26 July 2021 0:38
Quite possibly the best, or one of the best, Korean restaurants in the Lower Mainland. Down-to-earth good food and excellent service.
09 July 2021 12:18
They're a wonderfully run restaurant with awesome customer service and perhaps the best Korean restaurant in Vancouver.
They're not the greatest at time management and communication when that problem presents itself, but are generally quick (pardon the pun) to make it right when it becomes an issue.
07 July 2021 16:22
Great food. I really enjoy their cold noodles during the summer. Super refreshing during a hot summer day.
26 June 2021 7:11
Food are above average with reasoning price. I would give it a 3.5 stars but I gave three stars instead because they have poor service. We go there very often but everytime we go, we ALWAYS have to ASK for TEA, doesn't matter if there are lots or little customers. They rarely check on us. Usually, the second time when they ask if we would like more tea is when they bring the bill and finally see the cup is EMPTY. They really need to pay more attention to the customer instead of chatting with their own employees all the time.
17 April 2021 14:25
Food was okay. You can definitely taste the authenticity of the korean cuisine. The down side of it price too expensive.
29 March 2021 8:31
We always receive warm service here. The servers are great and the food is delicious. We've moved a bit further out so we can't always go but we always love to visit when we can.

Question for the owners though: Do you sell your kimchi separately? If you don't, why not? Your kimchi is the best we've tried all over the lower mainland and we would gladly buy it in bulk!
17 March 2021 18:16
Our go to place when craving Korean food. When we dined in (pre covid) the service and ambience was great. But be sure to call ahead to make reservations because they can get busy. We now do takeout and the orders are always ready on time.

The food is always delicious. The kalbi is tasty and tender. The bibimbap is just as tasty without the rice getting soggy in the takeout container. The picture doesn't do the seafood soon tofu jeegae justice but there's a good amount of seafood and a good spicy kick. The banchan (side dishes) are just as good as the main meal (we asked for extra which they gladly provided).

Definitely check out the restaurant if you're craving good Korean food

Great food! Lots of side dishes that are on the house. Also my sister is a vegetarian and they allowed any dish to substitute to more vegetables. Very flexible.

Lived in Korea for a year and So Hyang does not disappoint. Eating here feels like being back in Busan. The dishes are piping hot when served, the Cass is cold and the Kimchi is absolutely delicious. 돌솥 비빔밥 and 파전 are fantastic! There is a variety on the menu, and you have the usuals, but these are hearty and homey meals. The place is impeccably clean? And service is great. Try your rusty Korean out when ordering dishes. ️ eating here!

Great food, great price, and great service.
Ordered set dinner for two, include deep fried dumping, Bulgogi (marinated beef barbecue), Japchae (stir fried glass noodle), 4 small dishes, and steam rice. All dishes taste good, all waiter/ waitress we're friendly. Small cosy restaurants with great food and service.
17 January 2019 6:36
Good menu, good prices, great portions. Food was we cooked and the side dishes were really great, particularly the potatoes and Kimchi. Choose this place out 9 other potential Korean Restaurants and hands down, I am glad I chose this one! Cozy atmosphere and excellent service.
10 January 2019 14:57
Food was delicious. Like in most Korean restaurants, food and place were very clean and well presented. Amount of food was appealing and enough. We ate So Long Tung or beef sweet potato noodle soup and Bibimpap. Both were incredibly presented with side dishes. Service was friendly. Price is reasonable. The only thing we respectfully suggest is that, it could be good idea to have Boricha or hot tea at all times. We were only offered cold water and no offense but the weather outside is cold. Fortunately, my wife asked if they could consider giving us some hot water instead and they did. Thank you! Otherwise I think you deserve a five stars. Place is accessible by transit Fraser N 8 route.
06 January 2019 20:08
I'd suggest making a reservation otherwise you'll probably end up waiting for a while depending on your party size. Good service from the staff and food is quite good for the price. If you have a shellfish allergy be sure to let the staff know as several dishes that normally don't have dried shrimp etc have some.
05 January 2019 6:52
Small but delicious selection, great prices, excellent friendly service. We really enjoyed our lunch. A short 5 minute wait as we didn’t make reservations, but totally worth it.
05 November 2018 10:15
A very family and cozy establishment. This is probably the best service I've received at any Korean Restaurant. I've been here numerous time and they keep the consistency with the service every time.

The food is fantastic as well! I think now they are a bit well known, it does get busy. The manager of the front of the house (I believe Co-Owner) sure knows how to make their customers happy. There was one time where we had our name on the waiting list. One of the staff accidentally skipped our name and sat someone behind us first. Knowing that I told them and they quickly apologize on the mistake and will sit us right away when the next table becomes free. I didn't make a big deal out of this as I love this place. But the manager surprised at the end of our meal by giving us 40% off on our total bill. Talk about service!

Also they have the best LA Kalbi short ribs in town! Nothing compares after trying it elsewhere.
01 October 2018 23:36
Located in fraser street, easy to reach. Like the food. You can choose level of mild and they have kimchi veggie side.
27 September 2018 4:01
Amazing Korean food and excellent service all around. It is a long wait of 30 or so minutes if you don’t reserve. Prices aren’t too high and the quality of their food is phenomenal. I had the LA Kalbi, Japchae, and their Dolsot BiBimBap. Flavors were great and the service is very attentive and fast. The restaurant was very clean and felt very homey. Overall, one of the best restaurants to eat Korean food.
31 August 2018 15:42
An absolute five-star Korean restaurant. Seafood pancake is very good, I love the fried potato slices on top. LA ribs is awesome with great flavour and texture. Service is very good as well. Price is quite acceptable. We will definitely come again.

A nice little Korean restaurant in the neighborhood. Really nice and friendly staff. Authentic food!
23 August 2018 22:01
Nice and helpful servers and amazing food! Affordable price
It’s the best Korean restaurant in Vancouver I’ve ever been to
22 August 2018 17:21
It is a very small restaurant and you’ll have to wait probably like and 1 hour? , but the food is soooo delicious!
20 August 2018 14:20
This is my favourite Korean restaurant to go to in Vancouver. I love their seafood tofu stew and cold noodles (in soup). The waiter/waitress is always super friendly. I tried my friend's ddeokbokki hot pot and the noodles in this dish were so flavourful.

Other things I've tried:
- Dumplings - By itself, the dumplings aren't that special. However, the dipping sauce was delicious. I personally like dipping my dumplings in a lot of sauce though.
- A chicken dish on a hot plate (forgot what it was called) - It was fine, but it wasn't something that amazed me, especially for the price.
