Sookjai Thai Restaurant

I visited Sookjai after a couple of years after my last visit. I felt the amount of bean sprout in crispy pork got smaller: still tasty though. The portion of the chicken was a bit smaller than what we expected for the price. Other than that, chicken was tender and juicy. I would revisit to try other dishes - noodles, etc.

Amazing food and service. One note I will make is that at first I thought the prices were high. However, these are extremely big portions. One dish covers two people. So be aware not to order too much.

Very good food, very nice staff, ambience appropriately Thai! Nothing to complain about, but beware, the portions are rather large. One starter and main course was enough for two people, so for four of us there were two starters and four main sides, but everyone should decide for themselves. Depending on your hunger.

I was order for take out food, i request to give me spoon, souce. Once i reached home all that is not there make me little sad and not happy.

Hours are wrong! Walked 5 blocks out of the way to go here and they were open but were not serving food.

The food was awesome and tasty. Most of the waitresses were very good too, but one of the ladies who was working there treated people on our next table in an unexpected manner. She approached the couple sitting next to us and asked them: "OK. What's the plan here? Are you taking it super slow, or are you done? " The couple were deciding if they wanted dessert and this lady made them leave. Not because they had been there long, but because there was a wait line.

Delicious, authentic Thai food with extremely friends staff! No wonder this place is always busy.

Absolutely the best Thai food I have had in ages! And the staff were amazing. Highly recommend this for a great variety of food and very affordable beverages.

Went on multiple dates here with my girlfriend (we are an LGBTQ couple) and this place is so amazing and validating. Aside from the food being absolutely bomb with lots of delicious vegetarian options for my partner, they are super queer friendly and have always given us amazing service when we go on dates here.
When we went for our anniversary, two young servers were congratulating us and had the most welcoming attitudes. At most other places we feel snubbed and don’t get the same treatment as straight couples, but Sookjai and their servers go out of their way to treat us like any other couple on a special date. Will definitely be a regular dining spot for us!

Honestly.couldn't have had a better experience here. The food and staff were outstanding. The dessert was the best. We had the black rice with coconut milk and mango and it just blew my mind. Not overly sweet, just perfect.

We even bought chili oil home lol everything is amazing here. Will be returning next time we visit Victoria.

Best Thai food I’ve had by a mile - delicious prawns, perfectly cooked vegetables, and tasty sauce + creamy coconut rice. Customer service and atmosphere were also excellent. Highly recommend. Thanks:)!

But now they are little expensive but I understand the circumstances.

I cannot put into words how good the food was. Food has no right to be this good. It was otherworldly. The peanut sauce with our satay was rich and flavourful, but the star was the green curry. It was without a doubt, the best I've ever had. I have been lucky to have had many quality green Thai curries in my rather short life.but this easily stole the number one spot. It was out of this world good. The service was good despite how busy it was, and how late we came in, and everyone was happy, and brought their A game. Phenomenal. You're doing yourself a disservice if you DON'T come here while in Victoria. An absolute must for a superb dining experience. My husband, currently rather tipsy after one of their cocktails (the fizzy peach), agrees. NOW SELL YOUR SAUCES IN OTTAWA PLEASE! I can't go without for another five plus years. Plane tickets and lodging is expensive, ya know!

Update: We stayed for dessert. Top notch.

So happy we found this place on our victoria trip. This restaurant is one of the best Thai restaurants I've ever visited. (if they have more traditional Thai food options, I will move to victoria, lol.) lovely servers and the whole restaurant has a good vibe. Perfect for you and your friends and family to dine in. (they also have take-out).

One of my favourite restaurants in town. The food is consistently good, the service is always friendly. I haven't ever had a bad experience eating here. In addition they were happy to accomodate a nut allergy at the table.

Great food, their beef salad is amazing. If you like heat make sure you ask for it to be hot, medium was more like a mild

Splendid Thai food place. We ordered #61 and #64 one of which was a fried rice it was the most delicious fried rice ever! The person served us said her name was Jena she was fabulous great customer service! I found she was polite and loving to not just me and my family but to every customer she was assisting! Great to have employees like that for a business. Good food plus great customer service is just what anyone would love!

Sookjai is my #1 favourite place to eat in Victoria. Try the garlic prawns or chicken, the moo gratiem, pad thai, or chicken fried rice, or red curry with coco rice! The quality and freshness is always there. My only issue is a whopping $12 delivery fee. I’m surprised they are not on skip or uber by now? ! A true hidden gem and must try in Victoria.

Our reservation was for 4: 30. At 6: 30 we were asked to leave as they had another reservation to fill. We left without comment but thinking about it later I was a little miffed. 4 older women. Hmmm? Could this have been a consideration in asking us to move along? When I made the reservation two days earlier I was not told there was a time limit. Food was great but I was disappointed with how we were treated.
I suggest next time, that they mention time limits to potential customers so we can decide if we want to patronize. I won't be going again. Too many other fab restaurants in town.

My first time having Thai and I loved the food, and the 2 employees there where vary kind. I have been back and it was the same experience.

By far the best Thai food in Victoria. They have excellent vegetarian and vegan options as well as an amazing selection of desserts. Their portions are very generous and the service is always amazing. It's also a small family business so it gets pretty busy at times but it's totally worth the wait.

Tasty food, ample servings at a fair price made this a three-peat for us during a relatively short stay in Victoria. Sookjai will season your food to your wishes, which in my case was mild, but for others in the group, it was spicier. Accessible. We ordered take-out, but inside dining is available.

This restaurant tops my Thai food.
From appetizers to dessert, it was superb. I visit Victoria just to eat here, can’t find anything like it here in Vancouver.

We ordered 3 dishes. All were made to the spice level that we requested. All were enjoyed. It was our first time ordering and look forward to ordering again.

Order from Sookjai for the first time tonight. We ordered: 52. Guang Gal, 54. Guang Klew Wan Gal, 63. Phad Thai Gai, 77. Steamed Rice x 2 and 1A. Golden Tapioca. As much as we didn't like having to pay extra for rice, the quality and quantity of the dishes in our order was incredible. The flavors were well balanced and full-bodied. The ingredients were fresh and cooked to perfection. The dishes were sizeable which more than made up for the fee for the rice. The Phad Thai was moist too, not dried out. I honestly cannot describe how delicious everything was. Will definitely be ordering from here again.

Good pad thai especially for Victoria a bit spoiled by the Golden Thai in Toronto but this left a good impression as well.

It is the best Thai restaurant I’ve ever tried.
Last time I went there in 2018, but I always remember how the taste is.

Best Thai food I've had! Amazing flavour and spice. Customer service was great too.

I ordered green curry extra Thai hot and it was the perfect spice level for me, but it's definitely not for the faint of heart.

I have been to and ordered takeout from Sookjai numerous times. It never disappoints! They are also very accommodating to dietary restrictions and preferences. I will 10000% be back:)

Our Christmas came early by being at Sookjai Thai on Fort Street Christmas eve. Service was excellent and the food kept us wanting more. From start to finish it was a great culinary experience.

Incredible Thai food. It exceeded all my expectations. And they don't mess around when you ask for the spice level 'hot'

Ok, it's clear the selling point here is portion size. I mean they are just massive. When the waitress described one of the fried pork dishes as a "mountain of meat", we were skeptical. But we could not finish it even with a pork monster in the party. In fact, we had so much leftover we had another meal for the entire party the next day.
That's not to say the food isn't good. It certainly is not great when compared globally to Thai food in Asia, but on the other hand, I struggle to think of anything in North America that I've had that is close to this level. I was quite satisfied with the food given the pricing & portions. Though I might suggest they provide an option for half-size at lower prices so customers can sample more dishes!
If you want to see what Thai food could be, this is still not it and I'm still looking, but it's still good and tasty.
If you've got a hankering for Thai food, then recommended.

5 on 5 for service. Maggie was great and super friendly to talk to. As for the food, We found the spring rolls to be a little on the oily side but their green as well as ginger garlic curries with coconut rice were the best. Also, The pad thai that we ordered disappeared in a couple of minutes into our stomach.
We felt that the overdid the veggies and the curry bowls had less curry and more veggies. Normally these curries have a different blend of veggies at all the other places I have visited for Thai food and that's the only thing I wish for them to work on.

Delicious meal with Panang Thai and garlic mushrooms. Very attentive, warm service by Maggie. She's a gem. Don't lose her.

Sookjai is delicious. Love that they don’t use ANY msg and make all of their sauces in house. The food is fantastic, super flavourful and the serving sizes were very generous. Along with delicious.food the service is super friendly and welcoming! I would definitely suggesting eating here.

Service was fast and good I was super excited to try this place as I hadn’t before. I had the pad Thai the tofu was very overcooked there was barley any noodles and I had a bone in my food. My husband had their chicken fried rice and the chicken was very funny tasting and he hit something hard and there was barley and vegetables. Overall would never go very disappointed.

A fantastic meal once again. Shout out to the driver who delivered my meal. Thanks for the laugh.

Sooooooo good.we totally should take before and after pictures cause we finished everything in just 5 mins. Pad Thai, green curry, ginger chicken and pineapple fried right, everything was all good and delicious. Totally worth the drive from Duncan to Victoria just to pick this up!

This place surprised me. The Thai food so far has been the most flavorful in Victoria since kon Thai closed. Interesting flavors in regards to meat dishes. Portions are good for the price. One of the best customer service you can get for dining in. Overall, a great dining experience and I would recommend trying them out.

Best Thai food in town. Their pad Thai is not ketchupy like the other places and tasted identical to the ones I had in Thailand. The staffs are always extremely nice and efficient.

I visited Sookjai #pre_COVID, ordered delivery during #COVID_lockdown, and dined in #post_COVIDlockdown.

My Garlic Prawns had a dozen (12) nicely spiced prawns; I liked the snap peas! The large serving size, with steamed riced, was filling.
My #red_Sangria was OK; the server needed to call her manager on how to make the drink which I appreciated. It was refreshing.

The atmosphere remains attractive, welcoming and a nice outing experience. Even with #COVID19 protocols and #social_distancing in place, I felt welcome and comfortable. My server asked for my contract-tracing information in a conversational and relational way, which I appreciated.

Food is amazing and the service was friendly and enthusiastic despite the place being extremely busy. As soon as we finished our meal (with lots of leftovers because of huge serving sizes), we were already looking at the menu again to decide what we want to try next!

Absolutely some of the best Thai I have ever had. Saw them being mentioned on the local news just before Easter and ordered most of the recommenders dishes and then some. Wow. Pad Thai was amazing, the crispy pork was a new fish and mouth watering, soft and crispy. Spring rolls were crisp, not greasy and very tasty. Had the beef and veg with the peanut sauce and the shrimp in garlic sauce, two solid dishes. We ordered it for Easter and we were “mmmm” throughout the meal. The online app worked great, delivery was right on time with the estimated delivery time that was texted and the delivery guy was so friendly. Definitely my go-to Thai restaurant moving forward. Yum.

We ordered from Sookjai for the first time yesterday, and it will be our go-to from now on. They were so friendly and helpful on the phone! And the food! We ordered four dishes, based on the amounts we have had from other restaurants. I swear there was twice as much packed into each container! Everything came with a sauce, but tho they were delicious, the food itself was exquisite without! Even the carrots tasted like carrots! The meat was exceptionally tender, and the spicing was perfect-just what we'd asked for (mild!) The beef fried rice.it makes my mouth water just remembering it. And the crispy pork.perfection! When it comes down to it, it was the fresh and beautifully blended flavours that will make this our only Thai food restaurant from now on. We can't recommend it highly enough.
