I recently found South Burnaby Vet hospital and I'm so glad I did! My Bentley is an older dog and he's not been well lately. The staff are kind and courteous. Doctor Donovan and Doctor Ford are caring, kind and professional. I have finally found the best animal hospital in the lowermainland.

High quality care, great customer service. They saved our cat's life when he got bladder crystals.
Be prepared, this is a premium place with premium prices.

I've been going to this vet for a long time. I have always found them to be helpful and caring. The facility is usually warm and inviting. I hope that after this COVID thing is over that they bring back the little coffee station. You don't realize it at the time but that little coffee station makes it feel less scary in there. Makes it seem just like a normal day. Without it, it seems very clinical and dry. I think that's one of the things that set the facility apart from the other vets I've been to. Anyways, the staff are great and you can tell they are great with the animals.

The doctor we saw was very informative in her assessment, making no assumptions but offering much insight to the possibilities of what could be troubling our kitty. She was never pushy to upsell, merely gave us the options and left the decision up to us. Reception staff were welcoming. There was a relaxed and honest feel to this office which is large with a spacious waiting area. They could use a resident cat welcoming patrons like other offices often do, haha.

Doctors, vet techs, and reception are all pleasant and helpful.

Update. Now that Corona virus stuff has calmed down we can go in in person and not just talk to the vets and techs on the phone. They are just as pleasant and helpful in person.

Truly the best vet hospital & staff out there. Receptionists are always super kind, helpful, and amazing. We took our senior cat here for a checkup and to have his ingrown nail taken care of, and despite him usually being a nightmare at vets, Dr. Sheehan and the techs Christine and Maddy somehow kept him calm, cooperative, and comfortable the entire time to my disbelief.

Dr. S made sure that I understood every part of her assessment before moving onto the next section, and at no point do you feel pressured to make any decisions or payments for anything. You can tell she is being comprehensive, and NOT looking for ways to create a big bill.

Christine made sure all our ends were tied up before leaving, ensuring we had all the right instructions, follow up dates, aftercare, etc.

What a stellar team:)

Despite all of the positive reviews, we had quite a distressing experience with Dr. Hannah Crampton.

We had taken our 1 year old puppy here on Wednesday, November 16th because our typical Veterinary clinic was fully booked for the day. Our puppy had thrown up 3 times within 24 hours, had diarrhea and was not eating or drinking. The doctor had suggested they do bloodwork and an x-ray to identify what was wrong with her, so we requested to have the bloodwork done first and waited about an hour for the results.

Once we returned inside, the Doctor showed us the bloodwork results and had informed us that our puppy was "very sick", "extremely dehydrated" and her condition was going to go "downhill" unless we brought her to an emergency 24 hour care hospital immediately and explained to us that it would be around $6000-$8000 for x-rays and IV injections and possibly more if our puppy needed to go through surgery.

The Doctor seemed eager and pushed us to make a quick decision, however, we asked for about 20 minutes to discuss about what we were going to do. My boyfriend decided to call his sister (who is a Veterinarian out of province) for a second opinion. After looking over the bloodwork lab results, she had concluded that in her opinion our puppy's condition was not as bad as the Doctor made it seem and that the Doctor was using strong language to amplify the perceived severity of the situation; this had now made us incredibly suspicious about the Doctor's intentions.

We had decided to go with outpatient care and take our puppy home (as suggested by my boyfriend's sister) and watch over her overnight to see if her conditioned worsened but because of this, the Doctor made us sign a waiver that said we understood we were going against medical advice.

It has become apparent that my boyfriend's sister's deduction was correct and our puppy survived overnight. She was taken to the Seafair Animal Hospital (suggested by my boyfriend) the next morning to get the IV treatment and x-rays done. Fortunately they assured us that our puppy was going to be okay and there was no surgery required. All she needed was to be re-hydrated in order to be nursed back to health and today she has made a full recovery.

We understand that healthcare is expensive and that these Doctors are humans and can make mistakes, however, the way that Doctor Crampton had explained to us that our puppy was not going to survive the night caused immense emotional stress in our family. Based on our experience with Doctor Crampton, I do NOT recommend this Veterinary Hospital and will not be returning here again.

Very professional and caring staff.
The vet doctors are excellent. They genuinely care and spend the time to assess and explain things in a way that's understandable.
They check in to make sure everything is going well.
Overall, the best animal clinic I have ever been to.
Thank you everyone at this animal hospital, especially Dr. Katherine Sum and Dr. Andrew Ford
