We came through here after deciding to stay in New Westminster for a couple days. We usually find that breweries are kid friendly and a good place to relax, Steel & Oak was no exception. While I wish they had more seating, it was plenty for us and our toddler to hang our and meet some great people. The beer was really enjoyable as was the food. We decided to stay and have a couple of rounds before heading back to our place. It has such a great vibe and was so nice to see so many of the people know each other from town. I would love to come back to try whats on tap today and to talk with more people and the run club.
Delicious beer, good music, and chill vibes. They also have a run club welcome to all that does a 3K/5K every Wednesday at 7. The runners get a beer for half price I think, but not certain.
This is a micro brewery that sometimes gets hate for its parking situation or it’s lack of a menu, but it’s a micro brewery in new west lol. In general this has become an awesome place to visit when they host food trucks. It’s been so lovely seeing the community gather over food and drinks while supporting local vendors. The beer itself is also good, they have some really refreshing ales and IPAs and the staff is friendly. The space itself is trendy and clean and in the dry months, there’s a generous amount of seating. They also have a good amount of merch that’s relatively affordable and actually cute. I just really hope they bring back the kombucha they use to sell!
Still a great little place to relax! Have some fun with friends! And have some great local alcohol! And there non alcoholic section for your designated driver is great! So fun for everyone! Don't drink and drive friends! Thanks for another lovely evening Steel and Oak!
I took my crew here for our staff party and we had the best service ever, amazing beer and the servers were super accommodating and friendly. I would like to thank their staff, the reps and the owners for everything they did for us.
Great beer, made with quality ingredients. The staff is always friendly and efficient. You wouldn't think that you would want to sit on a patio in an industrial park but this one works.
There is no food service in the tasting room but there is usually a food truck parked outside.
Great selection of beer. Most taste very well. My favorite is the Dry Hopped Sour. Sour beers are usually a miss for me, but this one hit the spot. I visited on a Monday. Unfortunately there were no food trucks on this day.
Really great spot to be. These guys really know their beer. If you order a flight they arrange the beers from light to heaviest and label them on the board for you. Great experience.
Rated on the Pilsner scale, this is one of the two best breweries in New West and a must visit if you’re looking a field house inspired tasting room with half the distance to travel.
Made the trip out here for the Downlow and juke collab, sandwich was delicious wish it didn’t get to the point where I had to use a fork and knife but I’d order it again, wish they had a sour on the menu
Have been hearing about the brewing and finally tried it! The ambiance is pretty good to lift your mood and it's a decent collection of beers, some like music and finger food! They also have beers to go which many of people like me would like that:). Overall, it was a nice experience here and would really keep on visiting the place.
Their lagers are consistently the best in the greater Vancouver area! Great spot for beers, friendly staff, playing full albums on vinyl. Very excited to see their expanded tasting room and patio this Summer!
Used to be good but has become a hipster hangout. The one good beer they had they did away with, and when asked about it, you get the old "it'll come back into rotation" response. 3 years and still awaiting
Awesome experience coming here. This place had alot of people when we came, we waited maybe 5-10 minutes for a table. We ordered a couple flights of beer and a $5 donut. Everything tasted great. The snacks looked pretty good, and we opted to order the arancino balls from outside. Beers were great, lots of good selection and we got to try most of their beer.
I love the location which is a bit hidden from a busy road. Good selection of beer and I had their IPA. The ginger beer is very impressive. I will get more when I pass by again!
Service on point and seated in minutes. Beer was spot on and atmosphere is perfect for a local watering hole yet being someone who’s moved from downtown Vancouver it feels like I never left. The vibe is great. Worth venturing out of the city for a libation.
I come for the (exceptional) beer, but I stay (and return every other day) for the allies. Steel and Oak staff, you are the spirit of Nu Oest, i'm glad we live here and I'm glad you're my local. Best drinks, best staff, reputable gentlefolk.
Nice spot in New west, service and staff are great. Beer variety is lacking compared to other breweries I find. You won't find darks, stouts or sours here. Still a nice spot to just drop in and have cold one. Hope to see more breweries open in New west
Great selection of beers with something for just about any taste. They do their best with the limited space they have and it works well. Dog friendly on the patio too. Bought a growler after and I'm sure it will be gone tonight
Our favourite brewery! Great beer, great atmosphere, great staff. And it's local! That's a win any day. Love their patio space and the fact that they're animal and family friendly!
One of my favorite brewers, with amazing tasting well crafted beers. A warm and inviting place with frinedly staff. Love the charcuterie board too great value.
Quite cozy environment. But beer is just not good. Everything tastes sour and flat no mather what you order. Basic customer service, waiting a long time to get served, no engagement, no information about the beer we order. Wouldn’t visit again.
Such a cozy little spot to have some beers! The staff are friendly and the beers are great. Been coming here for 4+ years and they have made vast improvements including an expanded tasting room and the patio this year. Check it out!
One of my favorite breweries, really enjoy all of their beers. The Tap room is cozy and the service is good, they are always with a smile in the face! Definitely a place to visit very often, oh! I love the small front patio as well.
I have never had a bad experience at this place, and I've been here a lot. The worst I can say is that it can get noisy when it's really busy.
The staff are all amazing, super friendly and knowledgeable and the type you'd want to have a beer with. The beer is also amazing, I'm always blown away. Their IPAs are the best I've had, and they do every other type of beer incredibly well too.
They've been handling Covid-19 restrictions well, with all of the staff wearing masks and keeping their distance, and a beautiful patio being built.
Social distancing can be hard indoors, but they implemented table service so that guests aren't walking around inside to minimize that problem.
Not a very large place, but a cool place to hang out and enjoy good, fresh beer. There are several different styles of beer available both on tap and to go on bottles or cans. Parking isn't an issue as there is lots of space around.
Looking back, it seems like my appreciation of craft breweries started with Steel & Oak. It remains the closest brewery from where I live, so I visit it now and then. Variety is excellent, and seasonal additions are keeping it fresh. What I like in many of S&O brews is the use of spices, fruits, and other flavor and aroma enhancers. Like in Roselle or Doppelbock. The tasting room is pretty small, so at times it's not easy to get a seat there. They don't have a full kitchen but don't mind if you order delivery. On my last visit, I really enjoyed Nightcap beer. What a fantastic addition to the lineup of their products. Nouveau is quite an amazing collab as well. A few days ago, I tried their collab in North Van with one of the local breweries, and it was delicious. I think that this brewery deserves more attention.
Great Place, Love their Royal City Ale! So much hyoe & Buzz.sometimes you just wished this place was bigger to accommodate the crowd from new west and out of city too:) All in all, great ambience.and just friendly staff!
The atmosphere, beer, staff is perfect at Steel and Oak. Highly recommend checking this place out! Good German beer! Rotating cider, charcuterie plates, horseradish pickles, and local beef and tofu jerky. Growler fills, bottles and cans available. The beer here is delicious! Very comfortable seating area! Good prices.
Multiple visits times 10. Used to be my home brewery. Stopped here weekly on my way home from work. Job change doesn't bring me this way as much. Great staff. Beer styles have moved away from German, but that was inevitable. At one time, they swore they would never do an IPA. I could respect that. Always new creations. Always hit. Earl Grey was awesome. My go to has always been the red pilsner.
Great place, the people who works there are really friendly. Great place to take a break and enjoy a great beer with your friends and family. The Stout is amazing!
Good beer and a cider. Nice intimate space where you can have a private table or what a bench. All stills to sir at. Then Doppelbock tasted like the cleaning solution was still in the lines.
Great beer, nice atmosphere, we had the meat charcuterie and there was plenty. I love the record player in the corner. The Anvil Nitro stout is really tasty!
I cant believe ive never reviewed this place. Great tasting room, with vinyl playing and a good vibe. Beers are pretty much always a hit. Right now I'm enjoying a sleeve and fill of Homebody IPA. For a Brewery that didnt do IPA's they knock them out of the park now.
I'm a huge fan of their beer lineup, especially the Doppelbock.
The brewery itself is on the small side (cozy), and located just a short distance from the New West station hustle. It's possible to walk from the Skytrain if you're up for it. Otherwise there's parking out front of the brewery and on nearby streets.
Best in show award. Went to craft beer fest in Victoria and tied EVERY beer. Our 3 judges were a li'l tipsy by the end, but made a unanimous decision on Steel & Oak's Dopplebock for Bast In Show award. Well done Steel & Oak. Dude got the coveted "Hug of Merrit"
I have enjoyed coming to Steel & Oak on a regular basis since their second week of operation. I have always found the atmosphere to be pleasant and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable (without being pretentious).
I arrived just after opening to try the two new releases. (They are both greatbtw, especially the Chazwazza.). There was some confusion today which resulted in someone leaving and subsequently posting a very negative review. True, the Smoked Honer Dopplebock isn’t currently available for growler fills but.there are currently more beers on tap than there are tanks to brew them in.
I am sorry that Brian M.felt I was jumping the queue while he was asking about growler fills. If you had let the server finish speaking you would have found out they are once again brewing your beer of choice. So, Brian, if you come back in 6-8 weeks when it is ready, I will gladly buy you a glass.
I've always been a big fan of their beers but just had my first visit this past weekend. I am very pleased with the beer I purchased but even more impressed with the customer service.
I brought 3 growlers in to be filled, one of which I asked to be the simple things pilsner. When they mistakenly filled it with satsuma, I was a little dissapointed. However the nice fellow at the fill station recognized this, let me keep the satsuma and gave me a brand new growler filled with the simple things I originally asked for free of charge. This brewery not only produces great product, they know how to take care of their customers even better!
Great place to grab a few beers (so good) or enjoy a paddle. Always have nice little munchies like a meat/veggie platter or little sausages. Very spiffy looking place with their renos all done.
