Like a refugee camp! Excuse me, who is willing to go? ! Let alone stop and play? ! May the Lord forgive me! Amen! It has now been renovated! It is very safe and clean. Many people come to play in groups and some come to walk their dogs!
Hidden Gems file - In the back is Cottonwood Community Gardens listed as open since 1991 - I guess the years so called 'hippies' took over the empty lots doesn't count - anyway head to the back check the garden
Strathcona park is a lovely place where kids, adults and anybody in between can enjoy themselves. There is a skatepark that is fun for the crowd it appeals to. It is a bit sketchy because sometimes there are drug users and abusers that hang out there.
Amenities= Two public gardens. Maybe more depending on how you quantify gardens, it could be in the thousands if you count species, genus, other crapperjax and razmatazz. The bathrooms are open sometimes. A skate park with lots of low options, a hip, reasonable rails, transitions, sloped box. Which is adjacent to a quantity of basketballness, balls are not provided, bring your own. Slightly further south you will find a gazebo like structure with seating for up to 69 if you try hard enough. An ample playground including climbing, sliding and swinging aparatus for several ages. Some racket fuzz ball arenas will great you with the sarcastic pantamime of Julius Caesar declaring the demise of a gladiator with the tip of his thumb nail. If you like breaking your sternum tall bike jousting on acid, this might just be the park for you. Bring your dogs.
Now that the tent city is gone this is a wonderful park to visit. Lots of benches to sit, multiple playing fields and plenty of green grass to enjoy the sun in.
People are disilliusioned if they think this is by far in the least a nice park, its in a sketchy neighbourhood, the playground is never maintained and is in gross shape, and now theres tent city there making it an even worse place to bring children. Vancouvers mayor and the city council need to work on more affordable housing instead of raising the prices and kicking people onto the streets or under the rug if theyre already on the street. Compassion towards them should stretch further the access to camp at a park.
The clean-up alone within the park since the overwhelming majority of homeless individuals took to its grounds as "Tent City" still has me in awe! FANTASTIC JOB! (It's like night and day)
Now that they rebuilt the park after squatters it's great. 3 softball diamonds used extensively now. Playground, covered BBQ area, washrooms, soccer field and community gardens. Off leash park during certain hours.
A friend and I play tennis at the Strathcona courts over weekends. 3 out of the 4 courts are well maintained. There's park benches and trees around the courts where we rest in the shade in between games. The courts are never too busy and we've never had to wait our turn. There is also a kids play area and swings, and I believe it is dog friendly, since we've seen people walking their dogs. This is a quiet and lovely neighbourhood, and would definitely recommend the tennis courts if you like to play.
Strathcona is a great park that I would frequent quite a bit with my kid. The families tend to be down to earth and friendships are quickly made. The only reason I give it 4 out of 5 is the chance of finding needles there. It's not as common as other areas and sadly it's a part of life in Vancouver but bringing a very young kid here would be difficult. At the time (and maybe still) there was a service you could contact that would come out and pick up any needles found and we twice contacted them at the park. 2 times isn't a lot but it's enough to make mention of.
Had the first softball game of the season there yesterday. The park has definitely been through a lot during the last year or so with the amount of people that took residence there and forced to move out leaving it in disrepair. The good news is that two of the three ball diamonds have been cleaned up and are playable. Areas that aren't suitable for use yet do look amazingly better due to Vancouver parks board and volunteers hardwork are fenced off for safety. It amazing the transformation over a short period of time. Yeah it was never the most beautiful park. But it's always been a good one, and looks as though it is well on its way to being that good one we remember.
With the eviction of the homeless camped out here it's beautiful and family friendly once more. It's a big park that has a skate board and roller park, Ball diamond pubic washroom and tons of parking. Great place to find peace and quite.
Absolutely Awesome very relaxed open area to enjoy the Park, there are some fenced off areas, still in need of repair, but the baseball diamonds are open and being used by people enjoying playing baseball as was the Skateboarder doing tricks
We play softball there and the City has done a decent job on getting the 2 west fields ready for play this year, so we are grateful for that. Still some scary people lingering around on occasion, otherwise is fine. Happy to be back.
This spot is the only place homeless people can actually call home. The covid 19 pandemic caused so many to lose income, or the roof over there heads, homes an all there belongings, from no fault of there own, because of covid 19. If there wasn't this place, there isn't any place for them to be or to have gone to. Yet the support from the city of Vancouver has long since passed.the Police, parks board an even the city's officials demanding an forcing the people there to move along, but with nowhere to go and nowhere else to possibly be, still you don't have far to look before seeing someone smiling. Stay in good spirits, even if you can't stay home
It's ok it used to be a beautiful park still is but yes people without home have taken it over and do need a safe place but yes the park is going unused
Well this place is turning to tent city it has become in discussing mess Why is it so hard for people to live outside and remember what it is to be clean and Not an Carelesse little bug
As of Feb 18/2021 it is still occupied by homeless campers. I would not take your dog for a walk there as there is needles, urine and human waste scattered all over. If it was possible to rate this park with negative stats it would be -10 stars. 2 big
I don't know why I'm seeing an ad here for that Park considering the fact that place is now a tent city. Oh yes give a review of a park that has a current tent City. Welp here's my review it's reflective of the current situation of the over priced condominiums and non-rental units that this city seems to be only wanting to build, which displaces many people who do not have the opportunity to buy a condo or a house, Vancouver really needs to get it together. So go check it out go to the park, and look at the reflection of your city Vancouver.
Presently Camp KT is the new village residing in the park. I have visited a few times and I think the changes are amazing. Toilets and Showers installed garbage management.
This park is the worst park. There are homeless in tents through out the park. I would not bring my children or even my pets there because it is such a messy place.

Was a decent place with only a handful of needles. Now the socialist municipal government ruined the city even further. This park is full of low-lifes, criminals, and or unfortunate individuals.
Chainsaw welding man there tonight. Guns, crowbar threats, bike chopshops, hundreds of needles even with volunteers cleaning up. This park is not a safe place anymore.
Baseball, Softball, Soccer, Tennis, basketball, running track, rock climbing and anything else, requiring a wide open area is possible here. The park is also home to a garden. The park connect Stratton with the industrial area along Clark Street.
Great Park for a baseball game also has a skate park for the skateboard kids and there is still room if some of the kids want to kick around the soccer ball. The park is located right beside Strathcona community gardens which is lovely to do a walk through in the summer months also.
This park has lots of space for sporting activities to take place at the same time. There's a couple of baseball or softball fields, tennis courts etc. There's a playground area for the kids and washroom facilities that are well maintained. With all this going on its not hard to find yourself a nice quiet spot to read book etc.
This park is usually a pretty good place to take the dogs when it's daytime but there is a sign posted to watch out for coyotes at night. They can sometimes prey on small dogs. Hawks as well, have been known to do this to very small dogs.
