Super 8 by Wyndham Castlegar BC

We were pleasantly surprised by the under the sea theme room. The whole main section of the room, floor to ceiling, was painted and beautifully. It was definitely a great choice for a birthday sleepover, the 3 girls (16) were happy and impressed!

Terrible view of pool area, loud children screaming and playing in pool for hours! Rude staff at restaurant. Undercooked seafood. Server ate food off our plate.

Did not have a good experience here. Service was poor. Hotel was dirty. Pool, waterside and hot tub were disgusting. Wouldn't touch the breakfast. Very disappointed with our stay.

Just wanna spend a minute to thank Super 8 Castlegar for the amazing stay and welcoming nature of the staffs. I was travelling from Calgary and one of my friend suggested me this hotel, and I wont regret listening to her. The staff at front Navya (I hope I took her name right.lol) she was attentive and was very polite. Well coming to the rooms, the bed and pillows were super comfortable, I wouldn't ask anything more than that, and I would recommend staying here for sure.

The manager went out of her way to add value to our stay. Staff were always friendly and attentive.

The room was comfortable and adequate. Equipment in the fitness room is in poor repair but the swimming area is good for families. The complimentary breakfast is adequate although crowded depending on the time in the morning. A second waffle-iron would be helpful.

The location is conveniently attached to a restaurant and liquor store. Groceries, shops, and other services are nearby.

Internet speeds were fine for streaming.

Thank you to superstar front desk people at the Super 8 in Castlegar! Lisa was especially attentive to my family needs as we had travelled from Kelowna, looking for reprieve from the fires there. Did not hesitate to help us out when there was no pet friendly rooms available for our cats.she put us up in one there amazing theme rooms, we stayed the night in SPACE!

She also had no problem the next day letting us extend our stay one more day, and keeping us in the same room, moving another reservation to a different theme room instead of moving us! (Thank you to that family, who were gracious enough to take the other room).

Great pool, nice breakfast spread.the Black rooster next door was great as well (get the BBQ chicken Pizza for sure) when staying Castlegar, stay here, you won't regret it!

I stayed here for a month while working close by, the staff is incredible, very friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean, this is as good as it gets for an affordable hotel, I was lucky and had the kitchen unit, two small burners and a microwave, my only complaint is the coffee, the coffee maker in the room makes the coffee taste like plastic and like all hotels and restaurants the coffee is weak, I have only been to one hotel with good coffee but it’s closed now, this place has laundry and a swimming pool, a big slide and a hot tub, this place occasionally fills with kids when there’s a hockey tournament or a ski race, I don’t mind hearing kids screaming occasionally, but it’s not more of a concern here than any other hotel.

We arrived a bit late for check-in and when we were moving our stuff into the room we managed to drop and break a glass container-glass over the carpet. We called and they quickly sent a vacuum up to cleaned up the mess. The vaccine gentleman was kind and helpful.

Later we were looking to get some laundry done and unfortunately someone had left the machine filled with their laundry. I didn’t want to touch someone else’s things and mentioned to Lise at the desk looking to see if they could help. Lise went above the call of duty and helped us out, she not only got our Laundry done but provided it back folded neatly in a bag for us. Lise made our stay there feel like home-away-from-home. She is a real asset to the team there! We would definitely recommend this hotel.

I must also be perfectly honest about the facilities: when we arrived they had just drained the hot tub to change the filter, and were refilling it, and warned us that it may be a cold until it had time to warm up. We did try to go and attempt to use the pool about 4hrs later, the water was freezing cold, and the air in the pool room was also really cold - same next day…so timing for us with the pool wasn’t so good: because of this I give the pool a 2-star, but the staff, hotel, and breakfast are 5-star! The room was almost a 5-star, with the exception of the mounts for the bath-curtain rod being 1/2 broken and sagging down a bit. I didn’t make the staff aware of this issue, However it is a maintenance item that I would expect is somewhat a common problem. The sag was only about 1-1/2” in the middle, so it still functioned.

All the amenities you could want and a great location. Highly recommend for a stay in Castlegar.

The best hotel in town! Had so much fun in the Pool and the hot tub. Black Rooster restaurant and liquor store next door. All at one place! The rooms were pretty clean and the staff were so helpful with everything. Thank you!

I was immediately greeted at the desk. We were given a big room with two king size beds and a kitchen. The beds were extremely comfortable and the rooms were very, very clean. They also had a full-on breakfast included. Very friendly staff everywhere. Lots of parking and easy access to the highway.

The pool area was absolutely disgusting. Grey sludge around the inside of the hot tub. Both the pool and hot tub in the morning when you looked out after it had been stilled were murky. Clearly has not been cleaned in a very long time.

Internet showing available single/double rooms and was advised of none and charged a much higher rate and room size that was not needed while being placed next to the laudry room causing noise to wake us up earlier than expected in the morning. Feeling like I was taken for a ride and given a poor location without any offer of a discount when arriving at 3 to 4 am. Going to make multiple calls on my next trip and ensure that I am satisfied with the parameters.

Staff was helpful and very friendly.

Had a pet friendly room, which they only have on the pool side. You have no view and listen to the kids scream from 10am to 10pm. Quite annoying and wish they closed it earlier. Wish breakfast was held longer (it's only 6am to 930am) for those of us who like to sleep in.

Everything is quite outdated. Room is spacious, bed was okay comfort wise. Wish they had more soap and bathing toiletries (only 1 tiny bottle of shampoo and conditioner and a small bar of soap). The downside was the cleanliness. I found about 10 dead stink bugs in the fan about the toilet and the light right by the door

About $350 for the weekend. Not the best price considering the above. Will be looking elsewhere next time.

I highly recommend staying away from this place if you can. Do not get weird in by the water slide because it is ice cold and in poor condition. The rooms aren't much better and the beds are quite uncomfortable. While checking in a random person walk through the lobby and left quite a stench behind them. I asked the front desk if that was a guest here and the response was no we get people like that through here all the time.

I booked in a group to stay here while we were in town for a couple of Hockey games. I ended up having to bring my dog at the last minute so I called ahead to make sure the hotel was dog friendly and was informed it was, there would just be a $10 pet fee added onto my stay. So, I show up on the check in day with my dog and I am informed that I am not in a pet friendly room so my dog cannot stay there. After a lot of back and forth with the very rude front desk lady I insisted that she call the manager and ask if she will make an exception since I did my due diligence and called ahead to make sure my small 7lb dog was able to stay with us. Manager made an exception, but on top of the $10 I was charged an extra $20 for the room because 'That's what pet friendly rooms cost'. I needed to get back to the arena, so I just paid what was required so I had a place to sleep with my dog, daughter and her teammate.

On top of that when I get into my room after the hockey game there is someone else's clothing in the drawers which obviously concerned me about the cleanliness of the rest of the room. One of my daughters' teammates went to check into their room at 5: 00pm and it had not been cleaned at all, they didn't get into their room till after 6: 00pm!

So, after all that I get home and check my bank account and notice I was charged twice for the room, I call the hotel and the same lady that checked me in answers and denies any double charge and won't help at all. It is now November 4th I stayed there October 15th and I still don't have any money back from this hotel. I would never recommend staying here, the only saving grace this hotel has is Lisa, she was very helpful in trying to resolve my issue and the best part about this hotel.

Made a reservation a week before travel advised on online reservation needed pet room, reservation confirmed arrive no pet room available and will be charged for room as did not cancel 24 hrs prior.

Only giving 1 star as zero is not an option, Awful room was dirty and smelled of wet dog. Rude receptionist would not do anything so we left. Still waiting for a refund. Young girl was the only person there and would not allow us to talk to a manager or supervisor.

DON'T STAY HERE!
We booked a pet friendly room only to drive 7 hours to find out they do not have a pet friendly room available. When we went to cancel and the lady behind the counter says we can cancel but no refund. Nope. Wasn't our fault, completely their fault. Ever try calling Wyndham? Serious lack of customer service on their part. So at 5: 40pm we were told that a person that has booked a pet friendly room has until 6pm to check in and pay as their credit card did not go through. So we wait more time and then find out we can have his room. However the pet friendly room we already paid for cost more. The 'manager' at this location REALLY needs to improve her customer service skills. If she is a 'manager' she is well able to waive any extra 'fees'. 'My hands are tied'. No, they are not. As a manager, you should have apologized for Wyndham's error and corrected it. You refused. And the scary thing is. WE'RE MEMBERS! Well, not anymore.
This is not 'being a 'Karen' it's a matter of principle. Making members pay more for a room that has already been paid for due to someone not doing their job properly isn't the way to run a business.

Very nice help at the desk. Very sorry for her to run a 40 plus room hotel with 4 staff members. Very disappointed as a platinum Wyndham member. Never seen a hotel so overpriced as this one. Not clean, dirty pool water, towels at the pool not clean. Again no blame on the few people who were doing their best. Shame for Wyndham and super 8

Save yourself the trouble and NEVER stay here! The room was filthy. In our room was popcorn and garbage on the floor, ice bucket was dirty, old coffee in the drip tray from the coffee machine, a dress was left on the hooks in the bathroom from the people that stayed there before us, hair in the bathtub, the fridge was dirty, stains on the towels. The pool was dirty as well as the pool deck and the stairs going up to the water slide, the window sills by the tables where you eat we’re filled with dust and bugs. It was absolutely disgusting. When we talked to the lady at the front desk about the issues she didn’t apologize or anything. She just gave us attitude and said there’s nothing she can do about it and we could talk to the manger in the morning. The next morning the manager was conveniently not there so I was given the managers email address. I have emailed her multiple times in the last couple of weeks and included pictures of everything and still haven’t heard a response. The managers name is Rebecca. Terrible customer service and a disgusting place to stay.

Really frustrating experience. Got charged $150 by mistake and took a month and 4 calls to get it refunded. Didn’t get the whole amount back because they couldn’t refund the taxes (on their mistake? !) Hot tub and water slide was out during our stay… staff was talking trash about each other to customers. Room was nice enough. Slept well but was happy to get back on the road.

RUDE. We booked a room hoping to use the pool and water slide. We called immediately after booking to check what time the pool was open only to find out it was under repair. We requested a refund and were told no. After explaining we booked it for the pool they said they offered passes to the community centre.but the centre required vax passes so we couldn’t go there. Then they still said no as they would require the passes to use this pool as well. No where on their site or booking page did it say this. They were incredibly rude. Judging by past reviews we didn’t miss out on much.

I do no recommend this place to anyone.

Unjustified prejudice because I wanted to bring my backpack into their breakfast lounge to eat. Their first excuse was that it was to prevent theft. Then after I mentioned it was a complimentary breakfast, they switched their excuse to “we want to limit the amount of touch surfaces in there” Even after I showed my Covid passport.

Pool and water slide were closed but we were not notified ahead of time (the only reason we chose this hotel was because we had kids wanting to enjoy that). Check in wasn’t until 4 pm and our rooms weren’t even ready by then. We had 2 children and a disabled person waiting for our rooms in the hallway while they vacuumed and had to steal clean towels from other rooms.
An incredibly terrible disappointment. I would not recommend this hotel to families with children. There are much better places for lower prices and better accommodations

Location is great right beside Safeway, they have a pool and a waterslide great for the kids, resteraunt on site the black rooster.

Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. We stayed in a theme room with our two boys and had several issues. First our bathroom sink was completely plugged which we got no help with. Then we went to the pool and the pool felt like you were doing a polar bear swim. The kids would go down the water slide and immediately jump out and run into the hot tub. Obviously the hot tub was packed because no one would go into the pool. But the hot tub wasn't even hot. It was the temperature that you would expect an indoor pool to be. After thirty minutes of that fun we went back to our room and showered. Well the hot water in the shower was a joke also. It was like having a shower at the end when your hot water tank was getting empty. We had two tvs in our room and only one had a working remote. The kids couldn't watch their tv. Then we were woken up at 5am to a skid steer clearing the parking lot next to our window. It was piling the snow ten feet from our window on the ground level. I can a handle a few things because nothing is perfect but this place is a disaster. Its clear the management is incompetent.

Unfortunately, the parking lot was being cleared (of snow) from about 4: 30-7: 30 am and our window overloooked it, so I laid in bed listening to a small plow the whole time

We booked a group of high school girls to stay at the hotel as they were coming to Castlegar for a provincial volleyball tournament. Unfortunately travel costs were a factor, so a parent graciously donated his travel reward points to pay for all the rooms. Due to the recent storms in BC, the road closures caused the tournament to be rescheduled for one week. This hotel would not reschedule or refund the room bookings. Now there is a group of 16-year old girls who have worked so hard all year to make it to the provincials, and now may not be able to go due to the hotel not willing to change the booking!

I would drive to the next town instead of staying here. The front desk was extremely rude and should have no business dealing with the public. Anyway all I can say is deal with these people at your own risk. You've been warned ️!

The girls working the front desk are awesome! However this hotel is severely UNDERSTAFFED and I honestly feel sorry for the employees here.

Gaslighting management. We reserved a pet friendly room. After driving 11 hours, we arrived and told we did not book a pet friendly room. Toop at front desk called GM Rebecca who said no room at the Inn - we didn’t have proof of booking a pet friendly room. We scrambled to find a room at night and fortunately the Sandman had a room. When I called Super 8 next morning, Paula told me we did book a pet friendly room but “the system” changed it to “regular”. Very poor customer service by Toop and Rebecca. Paula refunded the room. Wyndham will not be in my list of places to stay.

Rooms are clean and spacious. We had a nice kitchenette and large fridge. Beds were comfortable. Bathrooms were clean. Staff was very friendly.

If you have dogs don't stay here. All pet friendly rooms face the pool and it's very noisy. And it's reeks of chlorine smell is strong in the room. Stay at the Best Western across the street. It's way more pet friendly. Not in a busy parking lot.

The manager is one of the rudest people I’ve ever met. We will not be back during our next areas. Strongly advise people to stay elsewhere. Also not to mention the view you get from your window is inside the hotel pool. I heard screaming kids all day/evening.

Love this hotel. Staff is kind and courteous. Rooms are clean. Covid protocols are great! I highly recommend the Castlegar Super 8 to anyone.

Arrived for check in at 11PM after a full day driving from Vancouver with the family. First room we were given had bed linens that were clearly not changed. Found sand on the comforter and a potato chip and finger nail clippings on the sheets. We were given a second room with insufficient number of beds. Third room finally was satisfactory accommodation. Had to ask the front desk for toilet paper. Not enough towels for all the guests (room sleeps 5). There was absolutely nothing remaining for breakfast at 8: 30 AM. I imagine what was there was a paltry offering as the waffle machine was not in service. Overall, did not meet expectations.

Nice but old old hotel. Staff was really friendly and helpful. Rooms pretty clean, breakfast ok. Check in/out within a minutes. Only one thing to mention is way too much chlorine in the pool. Your eyes get sore just from being there. Pool is really shallow, just for kids to splash, but nice water slide.

We arrived early explained we were traveling with a 94 year old that was having a difficult time coping with the heat. Was told there was no possible way we could get into our room early we would have to sit in a hot car for 4 hours where is your compassion for seniors especially since so many have died in the heat wave. We cancelled our room and we were told we would have to pay for it anyway. We will never stay in super 8 again. We will also tell our friends.

Clean rooms, nice staff, comfy beds, good location, awesome pool.
It's a pretty good hotel for a night, if I had to stay a few nights I'd probably go somewhere else.
-1 star for horrible showers, the nozzle is about even with my arm pits so I have to duck to wash.
-1 star because internet is partially unusable, they do have wifi but since you have to log in through your browser it can't be used with smart devices that don't have browsers like chrome cast, apple TV, smart watches, ect.and there is no place to plug in your own modem in the room like most hotels have.

One of the most rude Customer Service experiences I have ever received when booking accommodations. I was being yelled at and when I said I did not appreciate the way I was being treated; I was told that if I don't like it, then I don't have to stay there and they (apparently the Manager) hung up on me. Mind you, I was calling in because after a week and a half, I still did not receive a confirmation of my booking and the check-in was that same day so I wanted to make sure there was a room. I will never book here again and do not recommend it to anyone else either. Since then, we have been booking with the Castlegar Sandman and have been and continue to receive great service!

I booked my room on the highway on my way to the room. They charged me full price in advance on my card. I then showed up and they wanted to charge the whole value of the room again on my card as some sort of bs deposit. The next day they said they would reverse one of the charges to my card and 3 days later they didn't. I had to call and complain that they double charged me. They reversed that charge then when I checked my card this morning they charged me for a "pet damage" for supposed dog pee on the carpet from my stay a WEEK prior. They tried double charging me and got caught and had to find another way to ding my card for more money. Someone should call the better BBB on these scam artists

We had a WONDERFUL time staying at the Super 8 Castlegar. The pool was great, room was clean with great AC, the coffee was actually good and the staff were the best part of the stay! The GM and ALL front desk staff were so incredibly kind and personable - and made our dog Charly’s day with pets, greetings and treats every time we came downstairs. We travel with Charly often and I’m fairly certain this is her favourite hotel in the entire world - thank you ladies! We can’t wait to come back in September

My 5 year old son was SO excited to stay at this hotel simply for the wateralide. However, the chemicals were SO strong in the pool that it triggered an asthma attack and we couldn't stay in the pool. It is worth noting that my sons asthma is very well controlled, and we had stayed at 5 different hotels the 5 nights beforehand without issue. My kiddo was super disappointed. The room itself was fine- windows overlooking the pool area so no daylight, and we couldn't open the blinds or everyone using the pool and in the other rooms could see us. The in unit air conditioning was awesome, and the staff were very friendly. Covid 19protocols were still quite strict, which I actually didn't mind.

The staff are exceptional. The lovely woman at the front desk was so kind to make sure we got a room we liked and went out of her way to help us. My family and I felt so warmly welcomed and accommodated. The Super 8 was one of the nicest i’ve been in, and the pillows were great! Breakfast selection was amazing with all sorts of goodies including a selection of teas. 10/10 recommend.

Staff here are super helpful. They constantly clean and make sure everyone adheres to covid protocols. We felt safe and comfortable. Absolutely would stay there again.

The reception staff were great! When I asked about the town of Castlegar, they were very knowledgable and helpful with personal experiences to offer. The swimming pool was open and they also asked if we would like the waterslide turned on-of course we said yes. The only downside to our stay was the included breakfast. A juice box, orange, muffin, 2 slices of bread, and butter. I asked why 2 slices of bread were included in the "meal" and was told that they previously offered bagels, but too many were wasted. I then asked what people were to do with the bread. I was told that a person could make a sandwich. That would have been a plausible reason if peanut butter and jam were offered.

Friendly staff. Very comfortable sleep & stay at this hotel. Enjoyed my dinner from the black rooster restaurant next door. They helped customize my dinner to make it as vegan friendly as possible & it was delicious. On the other side of the hotel is a cold beer & wine store that has everything you need cold or room temperature beer coolers & spirits.

Received a 500 $ charge on my card 2 months after stay for smoking. I dont smoke, many hotels at a better rate strongly advise against this one

Rooms are clean and comfortable. Had a bit of an issue with check in on Thursday, May 25th - the check in lady seemed more interested in taking smoke breaks than checking in guests. Stayed there last year and the staff the following morning staff were fantastic

All of the staff that I encountered were very out going and professional, and at the same time empathetic. I enjoyed my stay immensely.

Staff were friendly kind and made us feel right at home and welcome! Even cut us a break on room prices as we were staying due to power outages. Pool is a blast!

Best place to stay in Castlegar. I’ve found the service much better than the other ones. Room is clean, wifi is quick and having a little kitchen in my room is great. The only suggestion I would have it to supply more cutlery, they only give two of each which isn’t enough in my opinion. Although I’ve never used the pool as I’m normally here on work trips, it’s a nice addition for families. No complaints with the tv, it’s nice that they have a HDMI running into the Shaw box as I am able to plug it into my computer and watch my own movie. Also very pleased to see USB charging ports on both bed side tables. Overall, great place to stay when your in town

My family and I had an amazing stay at the Super 8 in Castlegar. Rebecca, the GM, along with Jassmyn and Lisa, were all extremely friendly and delightfully accommodating.

My family made good use of the amazing pool and waterslide amenities and the kids had a great time. The room was modern and exceptionally clean. The attached restaurant was a tasty and convenient addition and there is literally everything you could need within walking distance in the accompanying plaza.

I will definitely be staying here in the future. Thanks to all for a great stay!

Sharing my experience with the Super 8

We come to Castlegar often and have always stayed here without incident. On the last visit however, I noticed an extra charge of $500 on my credit card. When I called to ask about this the lady at the front desk was extremely rude and said it was from Smoking on the balcony. First of all NONE of us smoke! 2nd we stayed in the room with 3 little kids. She claims she has pictures of $500 of damage from smoking on an outside balcony but yet I have not seen them. No email or explanation whatsoever as to this made up charge. Also when we booked - we specifically picked this location for the pool and water slide as we have little kids with us. Not once were we informed that it was closed during our stay. Do your self a favour and stay somewhere else. They will make up incidentals and scam you out of money. We will NEVER stay here again because of this. Never in my 30 years of staying at hotels have I ever been charged an incidental as we have always been responsible and clean. And did I mention again - NONE OF US SMOKE!

Nice clean hotel with great counter staff. Rooms are quiet, sizeable, and comfortable. Rooms are a bit dated but have been updated where it counts. Breakfast is decent.

Great room, but expensive, booked through Expedia where it said it $91, was over $190 on my card. Probably not the fault of super 8

Pool and hot tub both closed. Front desk lady wouldn't let my son wear slippers in the breakfast area because "there is too much broken glass on the floor" Maybe cleaning it up for guest safety would be better? Had we not already paid we would have gone to another hotel.

Friendly staff giving exceptional check in and checkout service. The rooms were fresh with a comfortable king bed, access to a small patio from the room and it had a small kitchen unit with cookware to enjoy a meal. The one thing I enjoyed the most was the wonderful full bathtub. I want one just like it!

Way too expensive for a less than mediocre room. The gap at the bottom of the door is large enough to ensure you hear everything going on in the hall. Was surprised because these hotels are usually good value. Won't stay here again

Clean, nice size room, comfortable bed. Friendly staff, free Wifi, Continental breakfast (Waffles, toast, orange juice and coffee). JACKPOT! We were very happy with our stay. Recommended!

Not a nice place, beds are uncomfortable, wifi doesn’t work, hotel has a bad smell, poolside rooms are extremely noisy, way over priced. Might have been a decent place in the 80s

Good price, has a pool and water slide but no restaurant. (There is one next door though) The rooms have AC and our room had a kitchenette. They have a few rooms with themes like Harry Potter etc. The free continental breakfast is adequate.

I wouldn't even give this 1 star if it were an option. Booked this room as part of family trip, family emergency came up and our whole trip out west was cancelled. The hotel and mgr would not cancel our room or provide us with a credit for future Wyndham hotels when I asked. In fact I never received a response and they still charged us for the room. Thank you for being a human and having compassion.

It may not be a fancy hotel BUT we had a large group and they have theme rooms with bunk beds. The room has a door connected directly to the water slide area. Water slide is fun for the kids. The pool it lands into is small and about 3 feet deep so don't expect to do laps. The on site laundry is reasonably priced and breakfast is typical for continental.

HORRIBLE customer service! Made a reservation from the road and a couple hours later I had to call and cancel for an emergency had to turn back home. The lady on the phone just said ok no problem it is cancelled. 4 days later I have a charge on my credit card for $150.65 from them and they said they have a 24hr cancellation policy yet NOBODY told us this when we booked or cancelled! Now customer care says I should be refunded that money since hotel didn't inform me of the fee but I still have to get ahold of the manager, they have my phone number yet still have not gotten back to me!
