When an item was missing from our order the customer service provided by Laia was far above and beyond what was expected. She overcompensated us for the trouble by sending the missing item along with quite a few extras. Thank you Laia! We really appreciate it.

Restaurant smells bad. Food had unpleasant flavors and textures. I wouldn't eat there again. I was uncomfortable with how cheery and friendly the staff had to be, gave me the sense of tyrannical management.

There are some amazing food gems in here but also some things that would offend a sushi regular.

Alaska and Las Vegas rolls were amazing. Really enjoyed their way of prepping and drizzling the garlic sauce on the roll. Deluxe Chirachi sashimi pieces were huge which is amazing from portion perspective but could be seen as bad cuts for an experienced sushi chef because you can't comfortably dip pieces into soy sauce and fully enjoy sashimi bites

Aside from that when first coming in and sitting down you immediately notice a very pungent bleach smell hence why I gave lower ratings.

One of the best sushi places in town by far! Amazing portions, fresh, and fast! Try their spicy salmon sashimi, god it tastes so good! Their Alaska roll is also so tasty, makes my mouth watery even writing about it! Price wise I think portion of spicy salmon sashimi worth $23 and for rolls Alksa is delicious and not so expensive, Love it!

We were there for dinner at 8pm on a Tues. Ordered two rolls, yakisoba, and a seasonal menu. The food came out super fast and was delicious. Great service too. I can see this place getting crowded on weekends.

I LOVE Sushi California! Ever since I first ate at the Coquitlam location in like 2008 I don't go anywhere else, and I've converted so many people! I used to drive to Coquitlam to get it until they opened other locations! That's how good it is. I find it's mostly the same service and quality at all of the locations I've been to (3 so far). Hands down best sunomono salad out there. Spicy tuna sashimi, gyoza, green salad tempura, agadashi tofu, tomago nigiri. Love love love Las Vegas Roll for life

The server will not do anything for you, so I wish the card machine would not show the tip percentage at any time. Or the server would not check the card machine.

I also work hard to make some money, and why do they want to make money without doing anything? Tips are technically when servers provide good/ outstanding service to customers. It's unfair to ask the tip when they did nothing like smile/ answer/ assist at all.

Servers working at Sushi California are almost the same as ordering food from Macdonald's. At least they do not need to pay for the tip, you know? Anyway, going to another place to order food would be better than this restaurant! (There are tons of Sushi restaurants in Vancouver and better service with better taste /quality.)

Fast service and a good variety dishes. I would definitely go back and try something else on the menu. Side note, if you're going to order the sashimi, make sure you're hungry.

So many restaurants in Vancouver are so loud. Loved that I could hear our conversation without yelling.

Please think about creating a distinctive spicy sauce for your sushi! It can significantly enhance the dining experience for your customers. It's crucial to move away from the common, overused spicy tuna cones that rely on the cheap and sugary flavor of Sriracha. By developing your own sauce, not only will you differentiate your brand from others, but you will also elevate the overall quality of your dishes. The best part is that making your own sauce doesn't require significant financial investment.

Attached is a photo of my spicy scallop cone drenched in siracha. It was the only thing I could taste unfortunately.

Customer service was not good
I’ve found a piece of iron (it might be from an iron sponge) on my last piece of a roll
But they never said sorry to me although i complained to the server

This was once my favourite place for Sushi, but it’s gone downhill. Staff can be rude. They don’t use proper trays for soy sauce, instead using ones that you can’t dip nigiri into normally. The nigiri is still really good, but rolls etc can be hit or miss. Last time I went they served us something where the crispy oily bits were made from rancid oil. It was pretty disgusting and ruined our meal. Definitely rancid oil that should have been discovered and tossed.

Great place! Sushi is delicious and so affordable with lots of options. The place was full and busy but our food still arrived super quickly.

Great value Japanese. Not pretentious Staff always lovely. The chicken karage is exceptional even for karage - juicy dark meat, light batter, with garlic aioli & lemon

Ridiculous pricing for the portion of small party tray. This came to $46. Yes, the fish is slightly bigger than other sushi places but it doesn't justify the price and cannot feed two people.

A suggestion would be to have another small party tray option with more sushi and NO udon, because people order party trays to have sushi not udon?

Will not order again.

On the positive side were convenient location, friendly service, nice decor. But the quality of food in my opinion was below what you would expect in sushi in the similar price range. I ordered chirashi don, gyoza and prawn tempura and can’t say that I enjoyed any of these dishes.

My second time visiting a sushi California and it was great compared to my first time. I highly recommend it.

The only down side to one of the rice bowl is the spam was tiny. We were hoping it was hoping to be bigger.

Since I can't do a half star, I went with four. This spot was recommended to us by a local and the sushi was so good.the rolls were generally huge and the prices were so reasonable. Highly recommend the mango paradise roll and the spider roll (probably the best spider roll I've had to date). Service was very spotty and MIA a lot, but the food made up for it.

Hands down the BEST QUALITY: VALUE ratio for Japanese food downtown. Fish for the sushi is ultra fresh and all the hot dishes cooked perfectly. Staff and service are attentive and swift:) Noice.

Sushi items tasted fresh. Teriyaki salmon was really well made. Not impressed with my the okonomi yaki- the seafood (I guess mainly octopus/squid) was so over cooked it was so hard to chew. We didn’t even finish it because our jaws hurt. Shrimp tempura was mediocre- like those store bought ones you put in the oven.

Karage Don was amazing! The rolls were pretty good too, but almost every one fell apart. Service was friendly but could have been a more attentive.

Takeout order of salmon sashimi, spicy tuna, dynamite roll, cali cone and nigiris. Cali cone tasted rotten, and spicy tuna roll had a large black hair on it. Won’t be ordering here again.

한인들 사이에 평이 좋은거 같아 오늘 처음 방문해봤는데 서비스가 기대한 것과는 달리 엉망이였네요. 주문한 에피타이저는 30분이 넘도록 나오지도 않고 추가로 주문한 스시는 우리보다 늦게 온 테이블 주문 나올 때까지 안나와서 물어봤더니 주문이 아예 들어가지도 않아 음식을 아직 만들지도 않았다고 하고. 음식 괜찮냐고 물어보러 한번 오지 않으시고요. 실망스러운 경험이었네요.
I heard good things about this franchise from couple of my friends so I decided to try it out with family today. Unfortunately the experience wasn't pleasant. They forgot and screwed our orders, they never asked us even once how we were enjoying the foods. We ordered more foods since it took forever to get our appetizers, kept waiting, noticed the another table who came after us got their orders first so I asked whats going on and they missed our orders again and haven't even started making our orders.
Big disappointment, won't come back.

Quick fast service. Great sushi. Good atmosphere. Just around the corner from the busy area. Great option if staying at fairmont.

It is a nice authentic sushi restaurant in the downtown. Pleasantly surprised with the taste and quantity.

Great sushi, especially the wild salmon sashimi. The rolls are good, chicken katsu is great. Service could be slightly better tho.

Horrible Horrible Horrible place to dine!
I have no idea how some people give this place good reviews. The sushis are pre-made and when its brought to you its all soggy and looks like trash! Low quality! Tables are dirty, washrooms are disgustingly dirty and theres smell of washroom inside. Very arrogant waitresses! It seems like they're are all one family and dont care about customer’s satisfaction! Its like take it or leave it, it is what it is and if you dont like it, dont come back.
I highly recommend if you like to eat a good sushi, pay a little extra and go somewhere else and be kind to your body!
My girl friend and i have been throwing up since last night dinner there and 100% regret going to this horrible place.
Im already following up my complain with Vancouver Coastal Health Authority (VCH) and Resteruant and Food Service Inspection (RFSI)

If you haven't been, this is a must do Vancouver sushi restaurant. Very fresh and adorable. Fun and creative rolls. Anything a la carte is a good idea. There are 3 locations that I know of for this restaurant, all of them have the same great qualities.

The sushi was bland, nothing impressive, It was just all right. However, all my roles fell apart when trying to pick them up. I ordered many different types of roles, and all of them crumbled. That kind of sucked.

Excellent sushi at an affordable price. The restaurant is large and the service is quick.
Good value for your money!

I’ve tried many sushi places and sushi California is still the top. Pleaser place, delicious rolls and so affordable. The only problem is that the place is far from our place: D

Incredibly fast and wonderful service. The team here works as efficiently as any place I've ever seen. The rolls and nigiri were excellent! You really can't beat this little sushi spot, if you have a chance stop in and enjoy yourself. I promise you will not be disappointed.
