Sushi California

This is probably my favourite Sushi California location! I've gotten takeout from this location at least 5 times - the service is consistently organized and friendly. Most importantly, the food always tastes fresh and delicious.

A great sushi restaurant hidden on a side street of Guildford, Sushi California was a pleasant surprise to discover. The interior is spacious and accommodates many guests with an open view of the sushi bar and kitchen. The servers are prompt and attentive to refilling your tea and the kitchen plates the food in a picturesque manner. The selections of food are also diverse with traditional Japanese dishes and selections of fusion dishes. Parking is either on the street or in the back and can be quite limited.

Went for lunchbwith friends and I enjoyed the Salmon Teriyaki taht I ordered. Fast service and Friendly Staff.

Quite busy but tables are separated by transparent acrylic. Food arrives quickly and the tea is great.

Visit this location almost weekly. Very consistent with the quality of food and prompt service. Highly recommended.

The rolls were average at best, tuna roll had light pink mushed tuna normally there is one small chunk of tuna wrapped by rice.all the rolls were not wrapped tight and cut so unevenly. I'm dissapointed hope the owner does a check for the future

I have ordered chirashi don, salmon sashimi. Every piece of sashimi was thick cut and really enjoyed eating it.definitely visit again

Waited 20 minutues to dine in. Ordered deluxe sashimi, but came deluxe sushi in stead. They told me there was a miscommunication, that's why sushi was written in. Because of that, I had to wait for them to correct my food. I was not really happy, but I guess my server was a newbie. How was that possible to hear sushi intead of sashimi, and I remember I also pointed that on the digital menu because I noticed it was busy and loud in the restaurant. I might or might not give this restaurant another chance in the future.

Worst first time experience ever in any restaurant… my daughter and I went today first time to this place to try. Walked in and waited near door for someone to attend us. Girl walks to us and up on asking I scanned for menu and told her it is for take out. She told me to wait outside and decide as there are Covid restrictions. It’s pouring rain outside and I still didn’t say anything. No one waiting outside. My daughter stopped and said “ we don’t need to look at the menu, I know what I want, so she saying her order. The girl stopped her and said “ order at the front, if you are not ready please stand outside” Are you dum (I didn’t say yet) my daughter is ready to order and you are asking us to go outside? Then we were just deciding how much to order, we knew what we want… interrupting 4rth time girl says, please wait outside and come back k when you are ready…… seriously? No one was waiting behind us…. No one…. She was in so much rush for something…. Not willing to serve us…. Not giving us time to just decide the quantity …?
Why should we ever go back where we are not welcome?
I really hope that girl gets fired…. Bcoz people like her never learn their lesson till they are punished that harsh.
I know I am asking for extreme but the way her tone was… my daughter and I were really disappointed and felt like we have been kicked out from a restaurant for not ordering fast enough … total time spent was less then 5 minutes with this whole episode.

Pros: Nice selections of Sushi, fast service, great service and close to our home.
Cons: limited parking space, bit of waiting time.

Horrible service! We came 3mins early for our pick-up. They don't let us stay in there. I understand, probably this b/c covid. But it's suddenly raining crazy outside! We asked if we can stand in the corner where won't contact with anyone. They refused and asked us waited in the pouring rain! Very rude! We got complete soggy. To everyone whos not driving for your pick-up, don't ever come early.

Great quality and price for fresh fish items. This is my go-to place when I am craving nigiri and sashimi. The rolls and other dishes are okay. I dont recommend coming here if you are looking for authentic, Japanese dishes. Nevertheless, this is a great restaurant!

Sushi California is amongst some of the best Sushi chains in Vancouver. It’s tried all the locations and their all pretty consistent In terms of quality and service.

My sister just found an entire receipt rolled into one of her sushi rolls. Disgusting! This place is dirty. You are better off with one of the many other sushi places in guilford.

This is in my opinion the best Sushi California. Portions are massive compared to the other branches and everything is always spot on. Service is great too!

Pretty good, the area was kinda shady with some sketchy people hanging around outside. The service and food was pretty good. Fish was fresh and rice was good. Finishing dinner, our car wasn't broken into or stolen which was a bonus.

Sushi is good, unagi ten was very tasty. Seems like a hangout type of sushi place from the atmosphere. Service was good since there were 3-5 waitresses on the floor all the time I was there. Karage Don was tasty though they poured all the sauce for mine in one corner of the bowl under neath the chicken which I found strange and my rice was super crunchy and stuck to the bowl due from the heat of it but still pretty tasty.

Delicious sushi and other Japanese dishes! Quality seems to be really good, since sometimes my stomach hurts after sushi dinners but not after this place. Will be ordering again soon!

Honestly not sure why people give this place good reviews.

Average food: Yes, the sashimi is fresh but their sushi rice is bland and has no taste whatsoever and the ginger and wasabi always tastes weird. The price is great but there are other sushi places that have great pricing and better tasting food. Additionally, the service is always horrendous here; servers are inattentive, always trying to rush you out and don't check up on you to see if everything is tasting alright or not.

If you want better tasting sushi go elsewhere, but if you're in it for the price and don't care about service, Sushi California is perfect for you.

Always enjoy coming here for a nice and close bite to eat when I'm looking for good quality sushi!:)
Servers at the time weren't too attentive, but they were also slightly busy.

Pros: Consistently good sushi. Variety of items in the menu. Good service.
Cons: So busy. So, if you decide to do take out or dine-in, you will be waiting for a while.
Verdict: Would go again and would recommend

This place is amazing.
If u r a sushi Fan well this is the spot.

But if u r not a sushi fan well guess what they have other really tasty choices.

My wife doesn't eat sushi and she absolutely loved the fried chicken

It's a really good place with an extremely amazing staff and I mean some next level service.

After my visit I honestly know now why this place has such high ratings

Foods is good but they probably need more experience of the time management.

It needs to wait for at least 50 minutes to get served foods.

I am not going to order here anymore.

This place was amazing. The area looks kinda shady but amazing food. Sue the waitress was really nice and has good taste in food. Im new to the Sushi world and i loved this place. Sue’ recommendation was on point. The Las Vegas role and the Double spicy salmon role was to die for. The house crunch roll was not to bad. Thanks again Sue for the amazing service at this location.

I like the sushi here. Slightly pricey but lots of variety and nice ambiance. Staff is friendly too.

I love ordering take-out at Sushi California. That said, the customer service is just as pleasant; servers are always kind and efficient. Rolls taste heavenly and the prices are great (especially for students). It can get a little busy so beware of peak times!

This place is great, definitely my go to for sushi. Their portions are good size and prices very reasonable! I love the spicy tuna sashimi and the cali crunch roll is very good. Usually order takeout but the restaurant is also very nice inside. Never been disappointed eating here!

Best sushi, best sashimi! They are fresh, big and thick! We also ordered udon, and it was just alright. But we were so impressed with their sushi.

The Langley location is way better! This location seems to "rush" you out even when they're not busy and you're trying to finish your food. Food quality here isn't up to par at other Sushi Cali's either.

Food is always good here. The staff are nice. I know you guys are busy but waiting for more than an hour is unacceptable.

Although I love their spicy salmon sashimi because of taste and volume. I do not like the idea that they turn off delivery services by DoorDash when they get busy…but when they’re slow, they want the extra business.

Because I don’t live close to the surrey location, I have to rely on DoorDash. It’s a big letdown when they are ”closed” because they have “enough” customers walking in. So much for putting the customer first. When I do go dine in, you are rushed to finish your meal and leave quickly.

Tried California and yam roll and both were good, fresh and delicious. Will definitely come back to try more!

The food was okay (the udon was good), but the service terrible. They brought us the bill and took payment WHILE I was still trying to finish the food. Also, we were going to get ready to leave, and the waiter came to clear the table, as though he was trying to rush us to leave. We hadn't lingered at all and were going to leave, and he beat us to it to try to rush us out of there. I get that they are busy, but that is no reason to rush customers out of the restaurant.

Always great sushi from Sushi Cali. Their Surrey location takes covid very seriously and is safe to eat in or take out. They even do door dash as well.

Sushi here is terrible. Rolls are too big. Big rolls are not appealing they fall apart and make a mess. The cut the rolls too thin too, so they fall apart even easier.

The rice has a slimy wet texture. Disgusting.

How this place gets such good ratings is astounding. Guildford has no good sushi spots. Extremely sad.

Came to eat with a colleague from out of town. She was a vegan, so was happy with the vegan choices from the menu. I believe there were about 4 or 5 choices (she's a vegan wanting to go to a sushi restaurant, so she knew what she was getting into). Glad she was happy with the yam tempura, which was really crunchy.

We have been coming to this location for several years now and have noticed the prices have been climbing and the product quality has been falling.
Today we ordered 2 Double spicy Tuna Rolls, 1 Crunch House Roll, 1 Dynamite Roll, 1 Wakame Salad and 1Ebi Sunomono Salad. The cost was $38.27 the Dynamite Roll was poorly rolled with extra cucumber and Less meat and the double Spicy Tuna Rolls had probably twice the amount of spicy sauce with more rice and less tuna. Make it make the comment that they have new staff as they have had a bit of a turnover lately I guess and indicated I was able to notice this however this seemed unimportant to them. I did speak with you acting manager although she was polite and pleasant her hands were tied by the owner. The manager was treating me well but only as well as she was allowed.

The reason for this review is to point out that this is our last visit to this location. I called them and gave them the opportunity to make things right with a refund, I was thinking for the full amount and their thinking was for $29.00 roughly.

I suggested that since this was their position I would be happy to shop at Ki Sushi in New Westminster. This seemed not to be of a concern.
If I hear from them again with a change in Attitude I will respond accordingly.

If there is anything to mention that is not always 100% perfect, it would be the overly huge amount of sauce the branch in Surrey is using at times.

Place is popular and always busy. Service is always excellent. Be prepared to find a lineup.

Sushi was fantastic! The service not so much. I get that it was a busy Sunday afternoon however the servers were quick to give us our bill without us asking for it. I was hoping to order more food but they clearly wanted us out to get another table through.

I've never felt the need to write a restaurant review before, today I just had to do so. To be fair, I've been to this restaurant a few times before, but today the sashimi and tobiko were far from fresh. We tried our best to accept the quality, though the flavour and texture were unpleasant. However, the real problem came after. I'd mentioned the issues to the server; but rather than simply apologizing or giving me an explanation, which would've been enough for me to forget about it, the server gave me excuses and overall was very dismissive and frankly insulting. A popular chain like this should spend a little time to teach their employees some basic customer service.

Does not compare to the coquitlam location.

Delicious sushi on a budget, but quality of service varies from day to day. However with that being said, Sushi Cali is still my go-to spot.

Sushi California will never fail you. Food is excellent and service is good. I'd recommend to anyone.

Best sushi I've had in a long time. Better than the Lougheed location even, not as crazy busy and there's actually parking! Mmmm so satisfied

I've been here a few times and the food isn't always consistent. But the Salmon Mountain roll seems to remain relatively similar to the Vancouver location.

Run by korean not chinese.just like sushi town, fresh and good quality and yet cheap.these waitresses should learn to be courteous to customers.the one answers the phone talks so rude and arrogant.you are not there to bossy around customers but to serve them.

An actual decent sushi place in Surrey!

The sushi tasted good with the size of the cuts a little above average. The donburi/rice bowls were also pretty good! Service was good even with a longer wait during dinner hours.

Great atmosphere, really good variet of sushi and otber fried. Servers can seem hurried and unapproachable during busy times

Finally got to try this place out after hearing so many good things about their west Broadway location! I went around 8pm and it wasn't busy but shortly picked up mid visit. The service was great, our server was very helpful. I tried to order Toro nigiri but was told they had thrown out the toro for the day. She also mentioned that they tend to throw it out after dinner time, as it wouldn't be fresh anymore. I appreciated her honesty, despite the fact that I couldn't satisfy my toro craving

The food came out fairly quick and the plating was nice. Everything was delicious, they had some very interesting rolls. I ordered the "
filet-O-fish roll, crunch house roll, crunch Cali roll, and Alaska roll along with some nigiri.
I was quite surprised from the filet-O-fish roll, I actually really enjoyed how they added tar tar sauce inside the roll! The only negative comment I had about my food would be that the Alaska roll was a bit mushy due to the amount of sauce on the roll? When another server brought out the dish, the sauce was literally dripping off onto the floor, our table and around us. He did clean it up shortly after, but the roll wasn't as good as it would be if they were a tad bit easier on the sauce.

Overall I would totally recommend sushi Cali for a quick bite or if you're just craving for sushi and you're in the area!

OK sushi if you want a bite to eat in Guildford but it's nothing special. Good atmosphere and restaurant. When the place is packed, the ambience w/ music and chatter is quite unbearable.

Their spicy sashimi has dwindled since it was established over in Coquitlam. The staff is always 50/50 regardless of how busy it is. It almost seems that take out has more priority. There aren't many varieties in terms of speciality maki compared to others such as roll and sushi. The prices aren't the cheapest anymore either. It's almost overrated now.

The food here is pretty amazing, most of the servers are attentive. My only real big tripe is that the tables are way too close to eachother. With the restaurant 50% full, the servers seated a family with 4 kids next to ours (in the corner) with like a foot of space to get in and out, while there was so much space elsewhere that could accommodate them. I suppose it's not the restaurant's fault for unruly kids whose parents don't care if they're yelling or throwing their utensils or food around, but it still brought the experience down having them seated next to us upon seeing how much space there was around the whole restaurant.

Great sashimi (quality and flavor), specialty rolls, and rice bowls. Staff is also very professional.

They have a lot of sushi rolls to choose from. Service is usually friendly and everytime I visit, our food arrives fairly quickly. It's a great place to visit if you're looking to be frugal. The prices are very fair and the quality of the sushi is decent.
