Sushi Garden High Gate

Food was great. Big servings but the cuts of the sashimi are way too big with respect to the size of the rice part. Also, our servers were not as great in this location.

My family and I love this Sushi Garden location. The hosts and servers are efficient, the chefs are skillful, the food is fantastic and comes quickly (reasonably priced, too!), and the restaurant itself is warm and welcoming. The staff are all friendly and work well together. Thank you!:)

Good Canadian sushi here. It’s not like the authentic Japanese style sushi but a lot of fusion sushi options instead. The filet o fish roll was good and so was the crab loves papaya roll which oddly didn’t have papaya but mango instead. The menu is vast but the roll descriptions are kind of vague as you end up with something not exactly as described (i.e. They don’t include in the description if it comes with cucumber, mango, avocado, sauce, etc all the time). Nonetheless the sushi is still tasty and pretty decent in presentation.

The salmon sashimi is thickly cut which is nice. The assorted tempura is standard. The service is basic. They have neat tea cups with nigiri sushi on them. Solid place for a standard, good, westernized fusion sushi experience.

Service was terrible! Hard to call for help, when the food was done the server wouldn’t bring to the table then we had to tell them to pack it home. We also ordered Alaska rolls and asked to separate the sauce but it came out with the sauce on top. My daughter didn’t know if they were gonna make a new one so she put her leftover in the same container. When I asked for the bill I mentioned that they put the sauce on top when I told them to separate, the server said to us why did you put the leftover in the same container which I thought if you gonna make new ones for customer, you are supposed throw them away because they don’t know the customer touch the food yet. She said she can’t make a new one for us. I came here often but lately the food is not as good as before and service is not good at all. Very disappointing service and probably won’t come back anymore.

The server and the food was great! Recommend to everyone who wants nice and easy meal. Hayashi Udon is a must try in the summer!

Sushi is great Come here quit often but it can be busy and parking can be a challenge. However once inside the food is very good. With a full restaurant it can become quite noisy. You can also order take out

I'd been going to Sushi Gardens for years and whenever I have guests from other parts of the world I bring them here and proudly because I know the sushi is awesome and the price is reasonable.

So you might ask why I've checked in on Yelp mow and why only this review now. I don't know! It must be that every time I'm here I get excited and forget about everything. The minute the food land on my table my instinct tells me to dive in and right away all my worries seem to go away!

My fave is the seafood salad, a bowlful of lettuce, shredded carrots and cucumbers, glass noodles, shredded imitation crabs, thinly sliced salmon, chunks of squid and shrimp and their special dressing. I also like their Alaska roll, gomae and all their rolls are fantastic.

Went here for dinner on a hot Vancouver night.glad to eat something cold like their cold udon - fantastic soft egg with chewy udon on a icy savoury broth.recommend this seasonal dish! Their sushi combos are priced nicely and we had lots in the combo for 2.

This place had always been great but yesterday I ordered 2 items and the experience was not good.

The shrimp gyoza was very dark (Old oil) in color and I had diarrhea from eating their korean chirashi set.

I probably won't be returning any time soon.

Old customer returns back but the quality of food is dropped as many reviewers comment. Served BBQ Hama Gama is fishy smell not allowed to change. Looked at the picture posted, does this portion worth $7.25 cum bad smell? Awesome Roll used to decorating with Japanese fish flakes, now replacing with flying Mee hoon as crunchy decoration cost $12.90. And all others sushi roll falls apart when you try to used chopsticks to eat. Many of others 3 star reviews share the same idea of comments.

I have been doing take out from sushi garden since before covid and always enjoyed it. Writing 5 stars because I am currently waiting for an order and the gentleman checking peoples vaccine passport is very thorough and polite. Great job!

Quality has gone down. Octopus in assorted sashimi was rancid and wasn't edible. Other sashimi was also mushy and dry. Rolls also had dry rice and fell apart very easily.

As a long-standing customer of sushi garden highgate, the food is usually alright and the service is decent. We usually have no complaints or bad things to say about this location and its food. However, today was a different circumstance. I had ordered the food online through their website, and had indicated 'no fish roe, no mayo and no fish flakes for all veggie rolls' due to dietary restrictions. Their website had also recommended to call to make sure any dietary restrictions were understood and catered to, so I had done so, and specified only to the veggie rolls. My mother had gone to pick up the sushi only to discover that the entire party tray had NO mayo and NO fish roe, there were rolls in the order that were not indicated to exclude the mayo or fish roe. Okay, no big deal, my mom just mentioned it to them, as this was a mistake on their part, and hoped that they would simply apologize and correct the sushi rolls. No, this was not the case, they said "we were not sure which ones to not include mayo and fish roe, so we didn't include it on any rolls", even though I had personally called to specify which rolls should not have these toppings. The server begrudgingly accepted the sushi rolls, explained it to the sushi chef, who then took the rolls, threw them in the garbage and proceeded to stomp on them. When the orders were done, the server coldly placed them down without a look or even an apology.

Will rethink the next time we order sushi here.

The best cheap good quality sushi in Burnaby. The portions are big, the prices are good. This place has consistently been the best sushi place in Burnaby for over a decade now

Short of staff to take orders, Sushi rice breaks down when you dip it in the sauce, the cut of the roll portion is not consistent, sushi are ok and miso soup, tempura prawn is crunchy and freshly cook.

Happened twice…Somehow took so long to pick it up considering original time line when ordered. Asked server if uber take out is ready for pick up.she says just follow the app. Waited another 10min. Later found out my food has been ready for a long time…just sitting on that table right in front of her…They just didnt update the status…Of course I ordered raw sashimi. Doesnt taste fresh anymore.

Maybe it's because their busy but this is the 2nd time their sashimi has not been good. First time the sashimi was not fresh (had a slimy film to it). 2nd time our tuna sashimi was still frozen when biting into it. I'll be hesitant to come back here again. Maybe stick with the food that's cooked.

We have ordered Alaska roll, dynamite roll and house roll. Rolls are big that’s why they fall to peaces in soy sauce very fast, it is impossible to eat. Fish is not delicious. And more over roll is cut into peaces of different sizes.

Lack professional and common sense. Today we ordered sushi to be pickup at a specified time but were nrhen notified by a text message that the food were ready 30 minutes early but I am still work. The order was sitting for at least 30 minutes and this was sushi on the hottest day at 40 degree outside. Hope we don't get food poison

I get sushi from here almost every week.today ordered a dynamite roll and the shrimp tempura were raw, pretty disappointed but other then that my other rolls were good.hope this dosent happen next time.

I've been going here for 5 years now, and Overall I've been happy with the food and service, but now they stop taking American Express. They told me it was because they switched there payment machine. I'm honestly quite disappointed with their decision, because their location was convenient for me and the sushi was good. I won't be providing them my business anymore, but I highly recommend their Alaska roll for those who wants to try. Tons of parking in the front and service is quite good. They can get quite busy during rush hour so call in early to make your order.

I am so sorry but the sushi taste was pretty bad. I am not an expert but the sushi taste sweet, and the spicy was not spicy at all. Somehow the California taste like medicine.

I ordered for the very first time the "Combination Medium for 2-3 people", Prawn Tempura and also Gyoza and everything was delicious. The three sauces that comes with the dishes are wonderful, including the ginger sauce. The only observation I make is that the service was not very cordial I don't know if it happened because of the lockdown and it would have to be done as soon as possible or if it is used to be like this.to attend so quickly that I as a tourist and not fluent in English I tried to understand the dishes that I didn’t know very well but in return, the attendant was speaking very quickly and marking what I pointed out then I couldn’t ask about the dishes names meaning. However I everything was done in about 25~30mins and it was fresh and delightful when we ate at home

Honestly this is a fantastic sushi restaurant. I know it has a "white" sounding name, and honestly I cannot speak on part of other stores in the franchise, but this one specifically is next level. I had there sashimi countless times. Especially their salmon sashimi is fantastic and I do recommend. I wish it was pre covid prices which were much more affordable. And also the inside is fantastic I love the atmosphere (again darn covid so you can't sit inside). Some other rolls like smoked salmon cream cheese rolls and their Alaska rolls are top notch.

Ordered the Seafood Salad, a bunch of sushi rolls, and a udon bowl. The food was delicious, and tasted very fresh. My girlfriend grew up in the area and has always said that this place is a family favourite.

Fastest Sushi place in town! They always have great sushi, and it isn't ever more than a few minutes away! They are busy, which is a great sign, however you can see why when you order. Their Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab Appy is THE best around. Best Chopped Scallop rolls I've had.amazing clean and fresh sashimi Never had a complaint yet, and have probably visited 20 or more times!

Had a takeout today. It was extremely bad. Could only ate one roll and threw them in the garbage bin

Always consistently great sushi and service! Prices are very reasonable for the quality and portions of sushi. I've tried a few other sushi places but I keep coming back to this location in particular and don't plan on stopping anytime soon!

Really good Korean style sushi. Super fast for cold food. Decent price. Always a good solid choice if you are craving a quick sushi fix. Usually a line up here and for tables 3 or more, everyone needs to be here before being seated. Parking is limited.

Its brand tells it all. Sushi garden = Sushi McDonald's. Its cheap, good food, but a fast food restaurant=do not expect ANY quality services. But the food is nice:)

Coming from Calgary, we aren't used to these prices or serving sizes; this is some pretty awesome value!

The inside of the restaurant is also very clean and modern looking. My only gripe was with the bench seating. Without a cushion on the flat surface, it got a little hard after a while.

We've always liked sushi garden! Its like a go to spot for good japanese food! The problem is just the time when you go there.because there is always a line up.the hosts are good and knowledgeable of what they are doing.also when it comes to serving sizes for japanese food this is the place to be! You don't feel like you are getting cheated with portion size! The only downfall here is ambiance and how people are seated soooooo close to each other! Like maybe there is like a ruler away from each table.so the moment you guys start talking everyone can hear what you are talking about.it would be nice if it wasn't as close as it is.because tendency is just to eat, not talk, and leave.it just makes it uncomfortable! We highly recommend this place for sashimi and all their sushi! Price wise.we think its fair because you get what you pay for! Will definitely come back!

AVOID, food is average, Rude, RUDE staff. This might be the worst experience ever.so here is how it is, my parents were inviting their friends for a quick sushi run, we need table of 8. Two separate cars, my car was there wailer so we arrived at around3: 10 ish. The retiring was empty. I mean, it is middle of afternoon time, not a busy hour. When we proceed to ask for a table. One of the staff saying you need to wait everyone to be here to sit, and pointed me the sign for it. “Ok, I understand, but may I ask why? There is no one here, the other car is actually parking, why can we just sit in and wait? ” One of the guy give me a look and say, this is our rules.you can leave if you don’t like it. Then turn around and walk away. I mean, no apology or sincerely wording, simply don’t care attitude. I was very shocked by that, yes, it is not a big deal, but we got elder member need space to set up wheelchair and he sees that. Sadly, I still sit and wait since there is not just me, and even have to pay tips cuz my parents don’t want to look embarrassed in front of there friend. Again.i get it, this is not a big deal, you just lose me as a customer and everyone come across me in any situation that ask my recommendation about your restaurant.

Sushi is fresh and well prepared, it's a bit if a wait for a table, friendly attentive service. Will be back.

My husband and I had dinner there this evening and it was pretty disappointing and very annoying for so many reasons:
1. The glasses they serve the green tea in, were chipped, not only it's not hygiene to serve food/drink in a chipped dish but it's very unpleasant.
2. We ordered "Dinner for two" which is a combination of a few items. We received a green salad and a bowl of rice and Sashimi and had started the meal when one of the servants came saying the Sashimi bowl is not part of our food and he's going to take it back and throw them away unless we pay for it! I couldn't believe they could be that CHEAP and it's a waste too unless they're planning to serve it to another table - I had a bite already!
3. The assorted Sushi didn't look fresh at all.
4. When we finished the meal, I noticed we're supposed to get a Tempura Udon with our order which never came and they just said sorry and brought it 10 minutes after we had finished our dinner!
It's surprising to see this place is very busy although the service is horrible and the food is not fresh. Waste of money!

Love the generous portions of Salmon sashimi here, is what keeps me coming back mainly. Croquettes are also delicious. I wish they had a few more options for special rolls like a red dynamite or something more than simple dynamite roll.

Sushi garden has good value. The pieces are large and the service is usually quick. The high gate location is newer but parking is difficult to find. On lunch and dinner hours there's usually a wait.

Good food and very clean however the customer service from the front staff is quiet concerning. They are extremely rude and if you are not Asian they are even more rude.

For just-above-average food, you'd hope for great service. Around 9pm today. I phoned in an order and when we arrived (just before 930), we were met with a mix up. Instead of a full order of "SALMON SASHIMI", the woman had placed an order of "ASSORTED SASHIMI". Sounds the same right? After mentioning the discrepancy, the woman claimed to have confirmed the order. We reiterated that we stated 'Salmon' and heard that - especially considering we made two orders and salmon sashimi was also part of the other one. If we had heard otherwise, we would've corrected her. After a minute of silence, she just shifted attention to customers behind us and we were left waiting. Once the others were taken care of, without a word, she grabbed the receipt and if she tried to scoff louder, I don't think she could. She marched past us and began speaking with the chefs. As she came back, my friend commented that they have "great service" to which she says "well we're busy". Congratulations for being busy - if this is the case, you should do something to accommodate the volume so that each customer is getting adequate service. Today was a memorable experience. This location is no longer an option when I need my next sushi fix.

Today at 11: 56 am decided to walk into the restaurant and my welcomed was one that the owner of the restaurant should really look into it. There was the Asian guy was at in front of the kitchen and “SIMPLY TURNS AROUND AND SHOUTS, WE ARE NOT OPEN SIT THERE AND WAIT” I was absolutely surprised since I have been coming to this restaurant from the first one they open in Metrotown. This “IDIOT” has been working at this location since they open last year or the year before. People like this should stay at home
